-As others have said not worth it. Pyramid scheme?? We joined many years ago when the only club was located on Cranberry ( cost $2500 then). Spent many a turnpike toll going up there as we were building a custom home.
- Many items came in damaged and had to be reordered, staff would get miffed when you would reject a damaged item. Difficult to get any refund, even when an item was ordered but no longer available from supplier. Many products that arrived were like factory seconds and even the manufacturer didn't want to come service the item. (de laminating fiberglass door with leaded glass (very expensive). Our kitchen cabinets came in wrong and direct buy had someone cut the bottom off and "flip" it so it was the right way, wouldn't reorder the proper cabinet facing the right direction. Side of cabinet not stained as ordered, designer never came to job site to measure even though we paid for him to do this. Faucets arrived with blue spots that wouldn't come off and they did not want to return them.
- The savings only tend to be on the most deluxe items, after you pay freight charge you might as well just buy locally most of the time.
- There is a class action law suit on direct buy in settlement right now.

We joined the Monroeville club in January 2010. I can say that we were a bit nervous after joining that we did the right thing. Our situation: We had been looking and pricing our kitchen remodeling project for about a year, but gave up on the idea when the economy tanked. We not only saved over 11,000 dollars on our kitchen, but the designer was able to add a few things to our design that we didn??t even know were available.
Pros:
Great pricing on cabinets.
Extremely helpful and responsive staff. Bill, the designer was great to work with.
Although we have yet to purchase outdoor furniture (we have been researching that recently), the pricing looks to be about a 30% savings on the stuff we are looking at compared to the best prices we can find on the internet.
Cons:
Some items take awhile (several weeks) to come in.
Savings on some items is marginal.
If an item is damaged, it has to be reordered. Nothing is stocked in the store.
We have been thrilled with our experience and are looking forward to using it more in the future. We recently found out that we are going to be grandparents and are about to start shopping for baby furniture as a gift!

We are building a new home and had a lot of questions. Ruby has been available to us personally, via email and by phone. Our experience with service has always been exceptional. Ruby is the greatest.

We purchased our membership about eight years ago. We have purchased many items for our new home and have been very pleased with the help of the staff. Their knowledge of the products is amazing. We have been very happy with our purchases. They have arrived in a short time. When we used the delivery people, they were polite and set up our items carefully.

My wife and I made our first DirectBuy purchase today. We ended up saving $450 on a television and gym. The entire experience was exceptional. Joan gave us great service. Everyone up to and including the owners treated us like family. It is greatly appreciated. We cannot wait to save more money with our next purchase at DirectBuy. Next up is bedroom furniture , outside fire pit, and so much more.

Ruby provided excellent customer service. She looked up the individual products for me and helped make comparisons between the specific models of washers and dryers to fit my need and budget.

Ruby rocks!! We were greeted and told Ruby was ready to help! She was extremely accommodating and very knowledgeable about everything!! On another note, Bill helped us two days ago. He also rocks! We greatly appreciate the guidance. The catalogs can be intimidating.

This is the first time we'd purchased through our membership but with Ruby's help we found it fun and easy. We knew what we wanted and she got us online and helped us complete out order since it was an online exclusive. We will definitely do it more often. Of course the savings was amazing.

We had a very good experience with our kitchen remolding. We purchased cabinets, appliances and floors; everything came as we ordered and in the time frame as promised. We've been very pleased with our experience. Also ordered sink, lighting fixtures, and crib and are pleased with everything. Granite was a great experience.

Shopping at our DirectBuy club is always great. The club is clean and well lit and the personnel are very friendly and helpful. What a pleasure to walk in, pour a cup of coffee, and shop at your leisure. And all of this is in addition to the money you save.

My husband and I got dooped into joining Direct Buy about 1 year ago. They kiss your butt during those orientations, offering you drinks and making you a bunch of promises. Once you shell out the joiners fee (which is absolutely ridiculous, in retrospect), all of the help and hospitality goes right out the window.

We can barely get help when we make the drive out to the center...heaven forbid we ask for someone to return a phone call!

We live about 2 hours away from our local Direct Buy, but were promised it would be worth our drive. HAHAHAHAHA! We were also promised there was no shipping on goods, unless we decided to have them shipped to our home. HAHAHAHA! They failed to mention that the manufacturer, not Direct Buy, will charge you "frieght" on all weighted items if they choose...i. e- we ordered a $300 bed from Ashley Furniture...we paid almost $600 by the time they added freight...AAAANNND we had to drive 2 hours into the dregs of PIttsburgh to pick it at some crummy warehouse on a deserted, creepy street. I ordered a table at the end of April which is still not in and it is now mid June. Best part is, once the item comes in you only have 2 days to pick it up or they start charging you a storage fee.

Our worst experience, however, is our countertops. We were told at the orientation that countertops take 2 weeks to come in. They even made a big stink about making sure our cabinets were ready for those counters because they will be installed in 2 weeks and they won't wait for us. We placed our order for Silestone counters on 04/10/10. It is not 06/17/10 and I still have not heard ANYTHING about the counters. I keep calling the center and never get a returned phone call. You have to pay for all of your goods up front, so we shelled out almost 4,000 and can't even get a returned phone call?????!!!!! We also ordered a butcher block top for our island on the same day we ordered the silestone. That was finally installed on 06/15/10, However, when the guy from the manufacturer came to measure for installation (he did a great job, you can tell he wasn't a Direct Buy employee), he brought to our attention that Direct Buy charged us for a much larger top than we needed. I called to ask about it and they said once the purchase was complete they would see about trying to get us a refund on a credit card. We paid with a freaking check, but we can get a credit refund??? REally????? I called and left a message this morning threatening legal action and my husband called and talked to a manager. They are supposed to get back to us by the end of this week...won't hold my breath. In the meantime, they have $4,000 cash of ours tied up that we cannot use to go purchase counters from a reputable, trustworthy seller. Not to mention, they still owe us the money from the overpayment of the butcher block. We are building a house and Direct Buy has us way behind schedule.

To sum it up, Direct Buy employees are liars, frauds and cheats. You pay waaaay to much to join this this group (almost 6 grand) and you get stress and headaches in return. This is, by far, the worst experience that I as a consumer have had. They suck!! Don't buy into their schemes!!

Once you plunk down your money the lazy guy peddling the kitchen cabinets couldn't care less if you buy cabinets or not and once you do kiss his butt to sell them to you he doesn't care if you ever get them , if the order is complete or if it's damaged . Basically not much of anything seems to be in his job description. When you do call there he pawns you off on some one else. and don't ever expect to be updated on anything unless you make the phone calls or your contractor is already at your house doing your work and he happens to notice that your missing one of your main cabinets!!!!1We were not notified by The factory, Direct Buy Distribution Center or R that part of our order was missing (wasn't his job) we called him that one of the cabinets that was here was smashed, sent a photo- didn't seem to care.. the hassles far exceed the minimal savings in my opinion. There was no Customer Service -Big box stores are a million times more personable and I believe that had we called them and told them we had one missing and one smashed cabinet, we would have gotten a response or at least an attempt at a resolution.Perhaps it was just our experience or perhaps the owner isn't aware of this employee's"s actions- Maybe a rule of no tootsie roll pops or Pepys's while ordering cabinets for a customer may keep one a tad more focused. Another option may be to go a step beyond and do something that he considers "not his job" when he's sitting there doing nothing . In today's economy if people are willing to buy -one would think people would be thankful to have a job and try to service them with professionalism, and followup and try and be sure not to be sure not to shove his work off on every one else.and the blame for a late cabinet on the customer.

Directbuy is a membership kind of place where you pay a pretty steep fee, but then get super discounted prices ('as close to factory direct' as you can get, I guess) on a wide range of products -- carpet, tile, furniture, etc. etc. You get pretty much one chance to decide if you are going to join. So, my recommendation is to not make an appt until you know you have some big purchases ahead of you. And, go into the appointment with some ideas of what you want and how much they cost elsewhere. Then, after your appointment, see if Directbuy carries those products.
If you do join, they give you a few days to change your mind. That's what happened to us -- we ultimately decided that we would want different kitchen cabinets than the brands they carry and we went back to un-do our membership and get our money back. It was no hassle to do this, which was nice.
