Food tasted very well, but we ended up several days in the hospital due to severe infection. Still under I.V. antibiotics and slowly recovering. I wish we had read about the 21 sanitary violations I found on Google reviews, before eating

The location in China Town; ambiance...prices et cetera I would not have thought otherwise so bad if I had not gotten sick from the food they served! Enough said! My wife's experience was not quit so bad as mine; but needless to say- I

I've throughly enjoyed my experience at Vietnam Palace time and time again. The owners are friendly and accomodating- one of them is always on premise. Its a family-oriented place that's relaxed but yet beautiful. My favorite is the lychee martini AND the Vijito - a Vietnamese version of a mojito. I've not been disappointed with any food that I've had here.

ALSO I recently attended a banquet which was an open-bar HAPPY HOUR for 150 ppl. The service, food, and beverages were amazing!! Highly recommended.

Pros: Super friendly bartender and waitstaff

Cons: None

Don't miss the excellent pho (rice noodle soup); it comes with silky rice noodle and tender beef floating on delicious broth.

This restaurant has much better service than Vietnam, which is right across the street.

BEWARE!!!!! DON"T USE CREDIT CARDS HERE!

I wished I had read the review by mich1138 before going here. My husband used his credit card here, and made the mistake of leaving his credit at the restaurant for two hours. Two days later the card number was used to charge $1400 at two different stores.

I called the manager and complained, and he was initially very defensive and angry.

The food is good, but not worth the price of all this hassle. If you go, use CASH!

If you walk on 11th street, you just do not know which one to pop into. Though I like both of them for different dishes, Vietnam Palace has a great soup called crab meat and tomato soup.

Since I tried it for the first time, this is something I order every time I come here. It is reasonable, and make your body warm all the way.

I recommend this place for Vietnamese food for anyone looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant in Philadelphia. The place is nice and clean and the atmosphere is calm. THe price is reasonable and the foods are delicious. I think they have the best Vietnamese foods in Philadelphia.

Food was good...The Lychee Martini, however will keep this New Orleans girl coming back forever.....
This is the best martini I have ever had...The glasses are kept frozen until it comes to your table...then...they pour your ice cold martini from the shaker at the table...Nervana! for Martini drinkers...this is a must...we do not like seeing our drink sitting at the bar straight up getting hotter by the second till the waiter notices it 20 minutes later..rather not even drink it by then...they also have a huge lychee nut on a skewer bobbing in this icey cold concoction that is the most addicting, delicious way to start a great evening of great food and conversation.. looking at my watch right now...going to stop by for one before heading back to my hotel....yummmmmm..

I love this place. Whenever I am in the mood for good Vietnamese food I come here. The service is great and the atmosphere is calm. There's usually dim lighting and it sets the mood just right.

The pho, rice vermicelli, and pan-fried noodles are fabulous.

The prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of food.

They have redecorated the restaurant recently and it looks amazing. I love the food here. They offer big portions but the price is still not as good as other restaurants in Chinatown. I think that it is worth the money to have that type of setting and experience though.

Just thought I'd warn readers that Sunday, August 17, 2008, an employee of Vietnam Palace cloned my credit card and racked up thousands of dollars of charges. Ironically enough, I normally eat across the street at Vietnam, but it was closed. Too bad Vietnam Palace employs such crooks, because the food was terrific. I'll never patronize them again, but if you can't stay away from the pho, I'd suggest paying with cash only.

I love this place! Excellent Vietnamese food you can sit down and enjoy in a pleasant ambiance, without paying an arm and a leg for it.
This is a restaurant that serves up competent executions of perennial Vietnamese favorites like bun thit, excellent char-broiled meats, and flavorful pho noodle soup. Good selection of non-alcholic drinks including thai iced tea and jackfruit smoothies, and a full list of unique bar mixes. The staff is friendly and helpful, in a relaxing atmosphere that belies its location at the edge of Chinatown. I am always satisfied every time I go!

There is much contention in Philadelphia regarding which "Vietnam" is better. The Palace or the Restaurant. So, I did a taste test. Vietnam Palace won by a landslide. I tried my two favorite dishes fried springrolls a Pho.
Lunch at the first place, the spring rolls were dripping in grease which made them soggy the flavor was ok and the mint was wilty . The Pho was horrible, the broth is obviously from a bouillon cube and the peices of meat were huge chunks, not thin slices. All together the taste was too overpowering, too beefy.
Now dinner at Vietnam Palace, the spring rolls were crunchy and delicious served with beautiful looking mint. The Pho broth was obviously home made. The beef flavor of the broth was just right and the beef was sliced thin.
Service at both establishments is comparable both have attentive and friendly staff.
But Vietnam Palace wins hands down on food. Mmmm Mmmm Good.

I am writing this review after returning from a friend's birthday party at Vietnam Palace. The bill for the party of 16 ended up being a RIDICULOUS $600!!! THAT'S $40 person for barely any food. 15 dishes averaged out to be $28 per dish. We did NOT order anything like lobster, steak, or alcohol. For crying out loud, 1/3 of the dishes were vegetarian!! And there is NO WAY they had given us $84 worth in spring rolls!!!! You can spend $40/person at a restaurant and be extremely satisfied. But Vietnam Palace is NOT by any means worth your time or money. In the end the manager did NOTHING to adjust the price. We all felt EXTREMELY CHEATED. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE.

I had dinner with my wife. The restaurant was not busy at all. One large party of 8 people and two other tables of couples. My wife and I simply came in to eat the Pho. When I ordered two bowls of the soup the server asked what appetizers I wanted, asking it in a manner and tone as if expecting that we order appetizers. I said just the two bowls. During the entire time we were there he never returned to see how our meal was; however, my wife and I noticed that he went around asking the other two tables and the larger party. I could understand if they were busy but there were only a total of four tables and he wasn't the only server working the floor. This was our first time eating at Vietnam Palace. We usually eat at the restaurant across the street - they always checked up on our table when we would eat there. Vietnam Palace was a disappointment. The Pho serving was small and the service was not warm. When we were given our bill the server didn't say thank you nor did he look at us when we gave us our food or cleared our table. POOR, POOR SERVICE.

Pros: Service, PRICES!

I'm a college student, so this is in the upper end of my price range for a nice dinner, but I still come here as often as I can - and I am not the type to come back to a place repeatedly. The food is just mindblowing.

Real romantic - if you don't get some after taking a girl here, you're doing something wrong.

Why bother with paying extra for 2nd rate food with sort-of-ok service?

This place did some rennovation a year ago i think and it looks great! On top of that...the food didn't change either. They are always serving the best food w/ decent prices. It's not on the menu, but they make something called a 7 course beef that is delicious!

Vietnam Palace is not just the best Vietnamese restaurant in Philly, but perhaps my favorite place to eat in this city, period. From the fresh tofu rolls to the curried mussels, everything I've tried has been delicious, fresh-tasting, and an incredible value for the price.

Nothing beats the Vermicelli Combo (or it it the Vermicelli Deluxe? I always get those two confused). A huge platter of vermicelli noodles and salad topped with crunchy spring rolls, grilled stuffed grape leaves, charboiled shrimp, and pork meatballs. And only $10! Short ribs with broken rice is a wonderful choice for a ribs-lover like myself. Plenty of vegetarian choices and they are also very willing to alter dishes to add stir-fried tofu instead of meat.

Service is generally warm, friendly, and prompt, although when the place is jumping sometimes it can be a bit slow.

That's what I should be - quiet ! The food has always been better here than across the street but now the decor also surpasses their competition. The entire place has been refurbished and the atmosphere matches the cuisine. Same friendly staff, same fantastic dishes but a little longer wait for a table but well worth it. Some great things to try include: duck soup; beef sate; salt baked squid; fish in clay pot the list goes on and on.

I've heard a lot about where to get the best Vietnamese food in Philly - here or the competition across the street (Vietnam). Not to play the race card, but many of my Vietnamese friends prefer Vietnam Palace. Vietnam across the street has a much nicer decor, and is slightly more expensive, but the food is DEFINITELY NOT better than Vietnam Palace. So if you want authentic quality food, definitely give Palace a try. (And the waiters are cute, too.)

In my opinion, this is the best Vietnamese food in Chinatown. The food is very authentic and tasty and the service is fast and courteous. I have been here between 10 and 15 times and it has failed to disappoint. I definitely recommend the pho with spring rolls and the tofu with lemon grass.
