The seating area at Abner's authentic barbecue could be found in any small cafe in Pennsylvania. But take one bite of the food, and you'll think you've been transported to North Carolina! The restaurant specializes in fall-off-the-bone ribs, perfectly seasoned pulled chicken, and wonderful mashed sweet potatoes. The sweet tea is enough to keep me coming back. One container can serve several, so it's a great way to try a variety of dishes while staying a good deal. My only complaint is that all food is served in styrofoam containers, which feels very wasteful especially for customers eating in.

Ok - so it's not like a southern barbecue, but it is the best you are going to find here up north! Abner's Barbecue has very good barbecue sandwiches. They have a variety of sauces that you can use to customize your experience. Decor is very basic with booths and tables. You basically go there just for the food, and the food is pretty good.

Abners is the best. The chicken and ribs fall off the bone! They have several different types pf BBQ sauce and there is a BBQ sauce for everyone. The sides are no joke! The cornbread...good....mac and chesse.....good......mean greens......good...baked beans......good
The people are friendly and it is the perfect place for BBQ. Better than Virgils in NYC! This place should be number 1. It is in my book........nough said!

Having lived in North Carolina for five years, I can say this is the closest you can get to real NC BBQ this far north. They haven't mastered the hush puppies or slaw yet, bu the BBQ with tableside viniger-based sauce, is right on the money. The quality of the meat used is even better than some NC grease joints! Brisket is also great, if a bit smokey for some novice tastebuds. Would love to see smoked tuna, bluefish, etc.

I was so excited to hear of this place and when I went I wasn't disappointed. The sandwiches were HUGE, but the rolls could be better. I enjoyed trying out the different sauces, it was hard to chose just 1. The cornbread was fantastic! I also liked the atmosphere as well. The service was good and fast as well. They have a type of frequent flyer card which is nice. I cant wait to go back!!!!

Folks I've been south and had bbq. This is by far the best I've had so far. They have about 5 different sauces to choose from. My personal fav is mustard b/c I don't like bbq from others that do it's the house sauce 5 for 5. You get a ton of food from the price. The cornbread is also a must have. My boyfriend is a big guy and he always leaves stuffed. I don't like ribs but from friends have rated them as okay. As far as I am concerned the only thing they could improve on is the rolls that the put the sandwiches in but then it wouldn't be "true" southern bbq as their bread is not as good in the south.

I found Abner's to be a terrific overall value. The ribs were perfectly prepared with a dry-rub, without sauce. The meat was tender, very tasty and came off the bone easily. If you want BBQ sauce, they have 5 terrific homemade sauces. The smoked beef brisket is also spectacular, as was their "award winning" chili. Their sides dishes are all homemade. I like items sold separately because sometimes I like buying only BBQ meats, while other times I want a side dish or two. I like this flexibility. The free soda refill is also great.
