Moderne could be a museum where you can happen to buy the furniture and art and lamps and carpets and sculpture. The display will knock you out -- everything is truly museum quality, names like Ruhlman and Brandt and Nakashima and Esherick. The best of the best. You won't want to leave -- you'll want to live there forever.
A big multistory building, back to front, allows plenty of room to wander and see the extraordinary pieces. Go!

You would expect this gallery to be in New York City, and we're lucky to have it in Philadelphia. Actually, from what I hear and what I can see, they have a better inventory of George Nakashima pieces than any other place in the US and the owner is reputed to be the major expert in Nakashima's work and lots of other craft people's work. They also have all the other big names in craft - Esherick, Maloof, Castle, Voulkos and lots more. And to top it off, they have a great collection of French Art Deco furniture. And they have a huge inventory in something like 20,000 sq. ft. From what I was told by a very helpful manager, one of the reasons that they are in Philadelphia is that it allows them to have the space they need to have such a large collection, and it also allows them to keep their prices down. Not that this stuff is cheap - it's expensive, but not like NYC prices. And both times that I've visited there have been people from NYC and other parts of the country shopping around. Really worth the visit, and if you have the money - a great place to shop.

Pros: Great collection of Nakashima, Esherick, Castle, etc. and French Art Deco on view and for sale
