1 Star is till too much for this dodgy shop. Bought $1200 worth of RC Cars and other accessories from them, recommended us to buy stuff that they haven't even used it well enough to tell people to buy. Bought 2 batteries costed over $300 didn't even say what should and should not do. Must say it is my fault didn't research prices before making the payment, but their overpricing just doesn't even make it up from the customer services as well. At the pre-purchase stage things were great, keep selling us to buy things, but then the post-purchase was too damn poor, there were problems and we gave them a call and they said was "I don't know" or "I haven't used it myself". VERY NOT HAPPY AT ALL!

I bought an ho scale engine thru Trains and Lanes through the mail and when it arrived , it had problems . They replaced it with another new one with no questions asked. How can you beat that ? Great people to deal with and am 100% satisfied !

this place sucks. i went in to buy a gundam model yesterday and the guy said, "Yeah, we have some of those gay robots over there." I confronted him about what he said and he was like, "Oh, sorry, did I say gay? Huh." Then I went into the dark and cramped aisles and because the back door was right there this one employee (some fat smelly old guy with yellow teeth) slams the door in my face like he thought I was gonna go steal something from the back. I couldn't find what I wanted (no Gundams, only shitloads of old train models from the 90s) so I went to ask and the guy finds some crappy Gundam figurine they had lying around and tried to sell it to me for $40. Yes, $40 for an action figure (not a model kit). Then he said, "Dude, you're like 20 or something and still watching this Japanese cartoon crap?" So I threw the figure at the register (cracking the screen, called him a sack of crap and stormed out (I also pushed the old guy who trieed to stop me for breaking the screen and I'm pretty sure he fell and broke his hip. Oh well, not my problem).

Come on! I never encountered such a bunch of germophobic whiners! RC cars and planes are OUTDOOR hobbies where things get dirty, including your hands. So you're concerned about a little dust!??? I have had positive experiences at T&L every time I've been there. Their inventory is amazing. Most hobby shops just don't have that amount of stuff. My thing is RC planes, so I've dealt mostly with Tim, and an older guy that left there, known as "Pop-Pop". Those guys have always been great to me, and they are very knowledgeable, and have cut me breaks on prices many times. I've purchased 3 giant scale aircraft and a JR radio system from them and have been flying them for years. Today I was looking for a 16x8 APC prop and I called literally 7 hobby shops all over SE Pa. Guess what? T&L was the only place that had one! I'll be going up there today (45 minute drive, gas prices and all) to get what I need, and not have to pay throught the nose for shipping from online stores. And when I've had to wait a long time for help, it's usually because they are packed with so many customers it takes time to deal with each one. But once you have their attention they are completely focused on helping you. Come on folks, get a thicker skin, and have some fun!

I have been going to T&L for years.Yes it is a mess in many ways.
On the plus side if you are looking for odd or out dated parts it is the place they have boxes of stuff that has not been touched in years.it is a great place to dig and find vintage stuff.I have found great deals you half to find them.
Most of the employees are kids with NO sales experience they are hired for there knowledge not there charm. don't expect to be greeted or begged to be helped it just does not work that way.
every one works there to support there hobbies and get stuff for them self's.See the manger he is the best he holds the place together.
Don't even try to order any thing they are not that organized.
I do believe T&L has it's heart in the wright place it can just be a little hard to find.
Keep trying guys some day you will turn it into the gold mine it should be.
Ounce they get to know you it is a good hobby shop.A strange way to run A shop.

I have never posted a business review before, but for this I will make an exception. Now let me start off by saying this review is based on the RC trucks and cars department. First of all the customer service is completely a joke. The two gentlemen that I had to deal were one guy with gray hair and glass and another younger kid with black and purple hair...yes purple hair, these two guys are complete a-holes. They do not want to be bothered by customers at all. If you ask a question they look at you like you are a moron. For beginners DO NOT go to this place. They will treat you like dirt. For Example: I went there looking for a body for my RC truck that I had called earlier the same day about and the guy on the phone said yes we have it here. I get there and ask the guy with the gray hair and glasses if he could show me where it is. His response was its in the back somewhere go look. OK so I went to look for a good 15 minutes and did not find what I was looking for. So I went to the same guy (he was the only person in this department at the time and there was not a single customer there) and I said excuse I can't find the body I am looking for, the gentlemen I spoke to earlier said it was here. His response was oh try the "middle section" (the place is an absolute mess and everything is just thrown all over). So again I went back and looked for another 15 minutes only not to find what I was looking for. So at this point I??m frustrated but I go to the same guy and said listen I called earlier and the guy on the phone said you had it in stock. His response was well whatever, whatever we have we have if it??s not back there we don??t have it. (I also live 45 minutes away from this place). The guy NEVER offered to help me look. So now I will say a good F you to this place and go elsewhere. And don??t get me started on the other guy with black and purple hair he is just a complete DOUCHE. It??s a shame this is the only place close to me. But for now I say F off. DO NOT BUY HERE THEY ARE WAY OVER PRICED ALSO-IF YOU DONT ASK FOR A DEAL THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!

I came across these reviews when I was looking up the phone number for T&L.I was shocked by some of them.We were in at christmas time looking for those neat gas powered truck/race car things. The place was dusty it was not a resturant...ok whatever. So yes we waited our turn & when it was the 2 men who helped us were nothing but pleasent and helpfull with every question, we never felt rushed, worth waiting for I think. Each visit and phone call after that always the same, we will continue going there and so will the people who dont want to eat there lunch on a dusty box of some treasure waiting to be discovered. :)

I received an RC car around christmas time, which was bought at Trains and Lanes, so I figured I would go back to them to give my local hobby shop some business since I wanted a new battery/charger. The 2 men working the RC dept. acted like they were too good for me and my questions, hardly looked my way when I asked for some help and were very rude. The customer service is terrible, which is a shame since they have so much stuff, and I really would like to spend my money locally but will instead be purchasing everything online now.

Okay - I'll agree with the state of the store in that it's an ever growing barn in need of a good cleaning and a clearance on old merchandise. But in as far as the place to get harder (not impossible) to find N scale trains and slot car items - the customer service is top notch. Yes sometimes you will wait to actually talk to someone, but it's okay in THOSE departments. I can not speak for the RC/others because I have never dealt with them. As far as it being in disrepair - Yeah I'll give it that, it needs a thorough cleaning and definitely some updates to the place (like an HVAC system that works on the slot car side) the roof needs fixing, the stock on some items is really old. I'll give it that. As far as their policy of no refunds, store credit only, most hobby/specialty shops have that policy because of the specific nature of hobby items. My 2 issues other than the ones above are 1, they are not closer to my house and 2, They need to really spend money on the business to really make it unbelievable.

I drive for close to 2 hours to get there why? Because no one else has it. Hobby shops (good ones) are a dying breed, with a little polish this could be the greatest.

I went to T&L to get a new battery for my heli and possibly buy a new one. When I went there they treated me like I had the plague. Not one guy asked if they could help me. When I did get help it lasted about 2 minutes and then I got pushed off to somebody who knew nothing about batteries for helis. I wanted to spend money there but got so disgusted I just left. Some of the reveiws said the staff is rude, I would say downright stupid. They must have enough money. I won't visit there again. Go to Wetzel's Hobby in Bath. He is a nice guy who will answer all questions and give good advice.

Well, they definitely need some new management. I mean, how difficult would it be to hire a girl or guy at minimum wage to do some dusting and vacuuming a few hours every week? They say they cant keep up with the dust, but that is bs. They never tried.
And the lighting can be easily fixed by getting your lazy ass on a ladder and putting the lights over the isles instead of the shelves.
It is all laziness. Their stock is older than the hills because they are overpriced!!! It can be a great place if they took a little effort to change things.

Can I score lower than a 1 ? How does this place stay in business? The people working there are absolute idiots. They were of no help whatsoever and I will not return to that store. Don't waste your time.

Let me start by saying I have had 2 excellent experiences with Jeff from Trains and Lanes. Both involved online ordering of HO locomotives. Both were made by MTH. The first loco came damaged out of the box but was replaced by Jeff within 4 days. Are you kidding? Where do you get service like that these days? The second was supposed to ship this monday but due to the holiday the post office was closed. Jeff shipped it UPS instead at no extra cost to me and I received it in 2 days. Listen. I know how rude some people can be. I shop at a train store called Nicholas Smith and they have alot of stuff. They are elitists in my opinion and often will ignore me to talk to some guy buying old used equipment while I have a $500 Loco in my hand. I have walked out more than once. But then I realized the owner and the old timers are the guys to approach and usually provide me with good advice and excellent service. I will use these guys again!

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it a 5. Service is so-so to sometimes downright rude. Their stock is ok but not the greatest. Store is filthy. Unfortunately, its really one of the few hobby shops left around the Lehigh Valley. They will order for you from most catalogs. However, you can get better prices online. I've just about given up on places like this because you can get better selection and prices online.

I have purchased R/C airplanes and helicopters at Trains N Lanes, as well as parts for the same, and HO trains and equipment. Like some sort of masochistic hobbyist I keep going back. I just bought $100 worth of R/C parts today. But this, as usual, was an infuriating experience, and will indeed be my last 30 minute trip to the worst hobby store on the planet. Here is why T&L sucks so bad and why you should find another place to shop:

1. The customer service is worse than non-existent. These people are downright rude. It is like walking into the middle of some sort of model geek inside joke. They literally will look at you standing at the counter, then walk away. You will not be greeted, you will not be acknowledged, and you will not be thanked for your patience or your business. Example: I was leaving the store recently with my arms full of a large R/C plane behind a young jerk who works there named Ben. He ignored me and let the swinging door slam in my face. Classic T&L treatment.

2. The place is filthy. The parking lot entrance will swallow small cars. Really guys- how hard would it be to put some stone in those massive potholes?

3. They will lie to you. I learned this after waiting weeks for basic parts for a helicopter I purchased there, which were in fact not ordered.

4. They will not stand behind their sales. A defective plane I purchased there NEVER worked, even after they had it for weeks and claimed to fix the brand new plane. That was after I had to fight with them because they expected me to deal directly with the manufacturer. That is why I didn??t buy it online to begin with.

5. You will never get your money back for any reason. Store credit only.

6. The place is completely disorganized and does not stock a reasonable selection of basic hobby items in any way you can find them yourself. Want CA adhesive? Gotta find an employee (good luck) who will search around behind the counter and maybe give you two options.

My final opinion about T&L? Perfectly stated by Rachel B. above- I want to punch the workers in the head. And to Bob V. who criticizes the spelling and GRAMMER of other posters: the word is spelled ??grammar? you sanctimonious jerk.

I shop T & L for R/C car kits and parts. Yes it is dark and dusty, but the have an excellent selection, especially Team Associated products. I had the same problem that was shared on earlier posts, the service is horrendous. Words con not desrine how rude and uninterested I found the young people at the R/C car counter were. Hobby Town at the Lehigh Valley Mall does not have the selection, but the young person working on Sunday's is great. Very helpful. Check them out or buy online.

Trains and Lanes has me torn.
I can deal with the disorganisation of this place. Honestly, digging for a find is one of the greatest things of my life. However, the level of dust on some items just keeps me from buying it. I don't need my purchases pristine, I'd just like them in decent condition before I drag them home. The idea of paying for a dirty, banged and broken item just leaves me unamused. For example: I don't want my paint already dried or gone bad, and I don't think that's too much to ask.
Secondly, they're massively understocked on items. I once went and found a spinner which had every single hook empty. I came back two weeks later, and found that it still was. They need to move some of the old merchandise out and replenish the basics. I had a hell of a time finding black paint, and ended up down the street at Hobby Lobby to do it.
Most of my problem though lies with with the one time I walked up to get help. Employee was talking to what was obviously his friend about something that obviously had nothing to do with work. I stood for a few moments, and the friend said "I think she wants to ask you something" to which the employee said "I saw that girl there". Was the problem because I was female, or he just didn't want to help. I still don't know.

Trains and Lanes has me torn.
I can deal with the disorganisation of this place. Honestly, digging for a find is one of the greatest things of my life. However, the level of dust on some items just keeps me from buying it. I've been dealing with these guys for over a decade.
Yeah the young kids are every where these days, go for the guy at the register, he looks gnarly but he will get you taken care of.
He will take care of ya, don't waste your time on the kids, they just don't care about a conversation about your hobby. Knowing what you need helps too, even the least amount of research will help.

Trains and Lanes had a representative and a booth at the recent Rhinebeck Jamboree (Sept, 2009). He was quite knowledgeable (having flown interesting planes there in previous years), and had a good range of products. We bought a couple of model airplane engines from him, one of which had to be shipped from the Easton store. It showed up very promptly, early the next week. When I called the store for some help, the person I dealt with was quite knowledgeable and helpful. The price was very competitive. I was pleased with my interaction with them.

I found the train guys very helpful, and informative, a few of the R/C car guys were more interested in conversations with their buddies than helping me. But I was able to get the answers I needed, I just ignored the lazy ones and went to the ones who are interested in helping me and keeping their job. If There are enough complaints about these losers they will get rid of them. The prices are Hobby Prices, High and Higher, but they have most of what you need. if you have to order something Go online, but if you need it NOW this is the place for it.
The funniest thing is I hit the lotto a few weeks ago and I was going to blow some of my mad money on hobbies that I always wanted but could afford. But I ended up going elsewhere after being ignored at the R/C counter.

I am shocked to read all of the negative reviews regarding T&L. Sure the store could use a dusting and some organization, but it is not Bloomingdales either. My 11 year old son just got interested in RC planes. The staff there could not be more helpful with answering his questions, helpful hints and instructions. They even made repairs multiple times without cost to me just to keep my son's plane operating. My observation is that hobbyists like to share their stories and experiences. So what if they socialize with their customers. Just be patient... that could be you some day asking questions or needing help. There are not many stores you can go into today and ask questions from an experienced salesperson. This is a rare find. I will take the dust anyday.

The staff is less than friendly here. Very disorganized as well. The model rocket section has kits all over the floor , while the engines are locked up like fort knox. Go into any other hobby store and they are there for the taking.

The store needs two things: 1. A cleaning from top to bottom. 2. A clearance sale. I've noticed that much of the items collecting dust have been sitting in the same spots for the last 6-8 years, so a huge clearance sale is needed to move much of the merchandise. On a positive note, some people in the train dept. have been helpful. I collect N-scale trains and accessories, and T&L is well stocked in that scale. As for prices, you are better off waiting for the Train Meets at the Allentown Fairgrounds in November and February. You can get much better deals from the vendors.

I will Agree T&L is a bit Cluttered & Overstocked but in T&L's De Fence they are understaffed I am into R/C's I bought 2 Trucks from T&L a Axial Scorpion Crawler & Traxxas Slash & was even given a Discount "not Much" but it helps. For the Dept's I know for a fact there are only 2 R/C guy's working in that section alone & when T&L opens @ 11:00am & it's nice outside all the R/C guy's want part's so right off the bat the R/C guy's get slammed & no offence but if your some person just looking around & you ask a R/C guy for help or a price & he's helping 4-5 R/C guys getting parts I'd get PO'ed myself. I buy Very Little from Hobbytown U.S.A in the Lehigh Valley Mall but that store too is Hi in Prices & Hobbytown Wont work with you on prices @ least T&L will the staff say's what the sticker says on the box is the price. I even brought a price to Hobbytown off the Net & the MGR said he couldent go that LOW on the NET Price I took the price to T&L & thay sold the item to me for that NET price. As for the Track's I think are maintained pretty well I seen Fellow R/C Guys working on the track's OffRoad & Paved I myself Enjoy Racing my Trucks on the OffRoad Track & it's not a far Drive from my Place. As for Race Event's I can't Say I have only Watched the Action never raced & if it's just prices your concerned about just ask them what's the best thay can do tell them what you have to spend & willing to spend & chances are if your getting 2-3 items T&L will Discount the items a Bit thay have for me.

If they don't know you they won't help you. Employees are only concerned about talking with their friends. The track is a joke and the drivers stand is falling apart. Highest prices on the east coast. Way cheaper to buy online even with shipping cost. (i.e. 15.99 for a glow plug that I can get online for 7.50 shipped.) If you like being ignored and and getting ripped off by overpricing and
like a disorganized race program by all means this is the place for you.

The reviews on this site are kinda funny to read. Does anyone take the time to read over what they write? Here's a game for you, see how many spelling and grammer mistakes you can find in each review. How do you expect to be taken seriously if you can't even spell?... that being said... most of the reviews are correct. This store has tons upon tons of stuff. Just about anything you need you could find. But, the store is dark, cramped and the customer service is very very poor. So you've really gotta look to find something you need. I live 20 mintues north of this store. Of the handful of times I have been in there, there is always a "social hour" kinda thing going on with the staff and some customers that must be in there everyday. If you need help with something, you're on your own in this store. Or better yet, use the internet. Obviously if you're reading this you have the access, so use the resources available to you. The only time I stop in T&L is if I need glue or paint or something small to finish a project. It wouldn't make sense to order one thing of crazy glue online. I take all my big purchases down the road to Hobbytown. I too miss the days of a quality hobby store and I'm only 38! Trains and Lanes has so much potential, but falls short - so very short. I'm on my way out the door to go down there now for some paint and a small item for my fathers HO railroad layout. I'll let you know if anything has changed since this summer (I doubt it though).

TL is the last of the true hobby stores in the area. You can spend hours upon hours looking at everything they have.. The staff may not be the bubbly Mall Worker type, but they do know what they??re talking about. If you can??t find something or need something, ask.

People tend to flock to TL, hang out and talk hobbies. Like the old days. Which is a nice change of pace. Other stores hurry you up and out. TL, isn??t like that. It reminds of the old time barber shops where guys would go hang out and talk the night away. TL is definitely a hidden family social oasis.

They have an indoor carpet track, and a outdoor asphalt oval, dirt course and a dirt oval.
Pick up an rc car and hit the track. You??ll have more fun then you think.

My entire family is hooked on rc racing. Finally found something my entire family can do together that doesn??t involve a video game.

Every time I go in the store it is a little dusty, and items are in a unique locations. The store has all the slot car items I have ever wanted. The model selection was great. Although the staff is devoted to one area. people tend to forget that the staff knows one area. the store is specialized in trains, and slot cars. Their prices are at the maximum MSRP, although if you need it, they have it. I'd recommend them to anyone I know.

After seeing this store I decided to stop in and look for a model airplane I am looking for. I went in and it was dark and crowded, while stopping to look at the trains we were speaking to a staff member when someone else who worked there acted like we weren't even speaking to him and told the guy to help someone else, we moved on and when we asked for help from somone else we were told we were on our own and needed to look theough the 1000,'s of models to find what we wanted. So while this store had a lot to choose from the customer service really lacked and I won;t be going back.
