Clean, friendly and nice haircuts. Mae always tries to keep her customers happy and listens to them. have gone to Mae for 6 years now.
After living in Philly for two years, I still hadn't found a salon I thought charged reasonably and still did a good job. Luna has tiered pricing, and the lower tier fit my budget, (though I'm not 100% sure what it's based on, experience?), so I figured it was worth a shot.
I've been back at least five or six times since to see KC, and she's wonderful. She always remembers what we talked about last, even if my last appointment was months ago. She made great suggestions when I said I needed a style change. She even advised me on a more economical way to get the color I wanted, and made it a lot less intimidating. Granted, it was a simple all-over semi-permanent color, she still did a fantastic job.
Overall, I'm definitely a fan, and have recommended Luna to friends in need of a good place to go.
Ok... I just want everyone to know I am not a picky person, I have gone to MANY salons that were 40 dollars for a hair cut and color and was perfectly fine with the service and loved my hair color and everything. This is by FAR THE WORST SALON I HAVE GONE TO. I have NOOOOO idea why this salon got so many good reviews and WHY they charge $200 to get my hair colored??? WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY THAT WAS!\r
I went in to see Marti and she is a very very nice and bubbly person I have nothing bad to say about her she is super nice. The people at the front desk were really short and not polite at all though. Right as I walked in and went up and told them I was there to see Marti they instantly told me to sit down without saying hello or anything. I was almost going to walk out after that but decided not to because I didn't want to judge ""a book by its cover"". When Marti came up I felt sooooo much better she was super nice and everything but she was not professional at all.\r
I told her I wanted to dye my hair blonde and she did so. But she only processed my hair for like 10 minutes I was SUPER surprised because thats the shortest I have ever been under the dryer for. But I was like ok well maybe it just processed faster this time not sure. Once I got all my hair dried she didn't style it at all. I went in for a cut and I told her to trim my bangs and she didn't after me telling her 3 times that I wanted them trimmed. She abruptly said ok your done and I was surprised because she basically dried my hair and that was it. My hair was still frizzy.\r
I was in total shock that I just paid for the services (when I should have put up a fight but I didn't) and told myself I would NEVER come back here. I have literally been like 15 salons or more in my life and this is by far the worst salon I have been to. I wouldn't pay for their services if they charged $50 because I have gotten better colored for that price NO JOKE. I got in the car and my husband instantly said ""It looks good... but wait I can still see your roots""... SHE DIDNT EVEN COLOR UP TO MY ROOTS. YOU COULD SEE OVER A CM of my natural color...\r
I never ever have written a review for any place at all in my life but I came and looked at these reviews and saw that they were good and that maybe it was worth 200 dollars but NOT EVEN CLOSE. DO NOT PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. If you are ever in the Washington State area (which is where I am from) I will give you like 10 salons names that will do better color and the price will be a LOT cheaper.\r
Marti was really kind and sweet but seriously NOT WORTH $200 AT ALL.\r
Please excuse my punctuation and spelling I am in quite a hurry but really wanted to get this out.
Kelly is very personable and actually listens and follows through with what you ask her to do. I would recommend her.
I moved out to Philly about three years ago and started going to Luna Salon after reading reviews. I went to Kelly and have been going back ever since. I love the salon, everyone is nice. Kelly is GREAT. Almost every time I go in I have asked for a new look or to try something new. Most of the time I just give her a basic idea and let her go with it, my hair has turned out great every time. Kelly is very knowledgable and really listens to what you want. I also think she really understands her clients because every time I go in and let her just do what she thinks is best it turns out great. I have never felt like she has wanted to rush me out of the chair, she takes her time. As long as I am in the area I will continue to go to Luna and see Kelly.
Pros: Always friendly, Kelly knows what she is doing
I just got a cut done my marti and it looks amazing! she did exactly what i asked and gave me excellent styling tips as well. i was nervous about getting bangs but she did them perfectly. love love love this haircut and marti!
Pros: nice, clean, friendly environment, excellent stylist!
I have actually been to 5 salons in the past 4yrs (job related moves). I have always read reviews online and gone off recommendations of friends/co-workers to find salons. I must say that I had a wonderful hair cut. Mae did exactly what I wanted. I do not have difficult hair, it is straight, long and at the time full of split ends. Mae listened to what I wanted (i.e. I don't style my hair because it's straight and drys nicely.) So she cut it in a way that makes it look great! Thanks! I would recommend this salon.
Went to May a few months ago for my first cut - did a great job. Went back for a trim after that - May cut my hair again - terrible!!!!! I have been growing this disaster out for months. Not what I asked for at all. I will not be going back.
Cons: Don't go
I had a cut in January and I am still suffering. I had been to Luna once before and had a cut by May. May did a nice job. This time I went to another girl with crazy blonde hair, short in some places and long in others. She cut the top of my hair so short (4 inches in length in some places - my hair is past my shoulders). There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the haphazard way she cut the top of my hair. I will be waiting years for it to grow out properly. She was a very sweet girl but obviously inexperienced. Also, from the moment I arrived it was as if I was stuck in an infomercial for Bumble & Bumble. I have never experienced a place that pushed products so much. It was really a turn off. If I like the way a product smells or feels I will ask what it is. Starting with the shampoo girl, she described every detail of every product and why it was soooo terrific. Complete overkill! I will not be returning to Luna. Also, it was very slow on a Friday afternoon. I can't imagine why.
Pros: Location was convenient
Cons: Worst Hair cut of My Life
Kelly gave me an entire new look after having the same old boring hairstyle for years. She's awesome. And the best part is she's really nice and not snobby at all which is a rarity for a upscale salon in the middle of a big city. So glad I found her!
Pros: Kelly gives great advice
Cons: expensive, but worth the $$
I went to Kelly for the first time to get a ""new"" look for my birthday. I told her I wanted front bangs, and she patiently explained what to expect. She also gave me the option of keeping them a little long, so that I can get a sense of how they would look, and if I liked them, she would shorten them. She was great!! I was very very happy!!
My hair is my creative medium, so if I want a super textured versatile bangs, or a flaming red color pop, that doesn't make me look like a broke down Pippy Longstocking, I go see Marty, she creates the look I am looking for, no surprises.
GASP! GAAAAAAASSSSPPPPP!! I just hopped on to City Search to leave my first review for Luna Salon. I've been coming to Luna, specifically Marti, for just over a year now, and have been meaning to leave a glowing review, only to find a one star slashing of not only my favorite salon but my favorite stylist! GASP GASP GASP! That was very disturbing to read. Not at all what I was expecting to see here, especially after experiencing a lovely high today after having my best cut EVER!! Wow, I need a moment. Breatheeee phew. OK. I""m ready. So, anyway, in light of what was written below, in combination of my own guilt for not having written my review long ago praising Marti and Luna I'm probably going to sound overly complimentary. But, it's what I feel so I'm going with it. First, I moved here a year ago from San Francisco, CA - a mecca for design in all forms, so I take the art of hair design very seriously! That said, Marti is very talented, and listens carefully to what you want, and is especially gifted at interpreting a vision that you may not have the capacity to describe in ""hair talk"", which is a rare quality, I've learned. Over the last year, I received five cuts (my hair is medium/long with lots of wiggle room for styling)When I thought she could not give me a better cut, she would do something I wasn't expecting that I liked more. I finally decided to go short, and i've never felt comfortable in all my 34 years to take this leap. With Marti, I did. And I love it! Marti is not too afraid to offer alternative ideas to allow you the option to choose. I'm sincere when i say, I've never found a stylist who I've liked more. When you find some one like Marti, you will want to keep her around! She's talented, and ""gets me"" and my hair! She can pull off what you couldn't even articulate you wanted, and gives you something you love every time, to the point where you don't think she can top it the next time. She always tops it. FIVE STARS
Pros: great value - great skills - hip environment yet very friendly and welcoming
Cons: not enough Marti to go around
I got the worst hair cut in years last Friday by Marti. It has no style. My bangs just stick up. I could tell by the way she cut my hair that she didn't know what she was doing. I wish i hadn't left her such a big tip.. but I felt bad because of our current economy. Luna isn't worth the price they charge. I paid $40 with coupon and my hair looks like the way it did when I was younger and my parents took me to the cheap hair cuttery places in the mall (except those places only charge you 20 bucks for a hair cut). I will never go back to this place! If you decide to go, ask for the person with the most experience!
This place is awesome. Excellent atmosphere and friendliness as well as personalization of service. Kelly was very informative and patient and did exactly what I asked for while maintaining her professional judgment. My hair is very difficult to deal with but she took the extra time and care to cut it properly and made sure she was doing what I wanted. Really friendly and laid-back, and totally professional. I am picky and am soo pleased.\r
Compared to the rubbish $50 haircuts I have gotten before, this was a great deal. Absolutely recommend them to everyone!
Pros: service, personability, atmosphere, location, skill/talent
Cons: can't think of any
I've been getting my hair cut by Kelly for the past few months and I ALWAYS get compliments on the style and cut every time. I even have complete strangers complimenting me. That, plus I've recommended her to a couple of friends who are also extremely happy. and they've told people and so it goes. I have nothing but great things to say about Kelly and the rest of the staff. Getting a haircut here is always a relaxing experience because I don't have to worry about a chop job.
First time @ Luna for hair, Cecilie gave great haircut, despite my ""difficult"" hair (thin, straight)-it even looks good wet!
Pros: Great interior, friendly staff
Luna's is the best salon in Philadelphia: hands down. I arrived at the salon with hopes high and I left feeling totally rejuvenated and happy with my new look. Luna's was the first salon that came to mind because I heard great reviews from it and it was a good distance from where I live. Everyone there is very welcoming and approachable. I was so nervous because I've had long hair my whole life and I aimed for a more sophisticated look. I did not know anyone's strengths/weaknesses for hair styling so I was in for a surprise. I asked for an A-line bob. I put it into detail as to how I wanted it to look, the texture, etc. Kelly is a great stylist and I definetly recommend her. She knew exactly what I was talking about and shot for something better. I absolutely love my haircut and I can't stop running my fingers through it!\r
Luna's Salon gets TWO thumbs up!!! \r
Pros: Great Service, Great Hair Cuts, Great Everything!
Luna was a great experience. May cut my hair, who I would definitely recommend to anyone going. She's very talented-- and received her education from beauty school in London. I visited Luna after having tried to ask different stylists to be ""creative"" for the last 5 years and yet continually looking the same after the hairspray and styling had washed out of my hair two days after I left different hair salons.\r
May is awesome. She is meticulous and understands hair and will create something for you that will last long after the salon experience. \r
The pricing is a little expensive (what kept me back at first) but it's worth it in the end, especially if you only get your hair cut infrequently. I would absolutely recommend Luna. I, for one, will be going back a lot!
I came to Luna for help after receiving a truly disastrous haircut at a different salon.\r
May at Luna was able to not only fix the disaster, but actually transformed my hair into the sleek and professional look I wanted all along!\r
Amazing! Highly recommend.
I am a guy and I dont like the fact that I go to a salon. but here i dont feel like a loser. mae doesnt make me feel like ""that guy"" when i leave. great haircut, great price. their products are great too. Bumble and bumble tonic works wonders and smells good.
Pros: salon, people are great
Cons: no parking,
I've been happily going to Luna for three years now. I am devoted to Kelly, an absolutely amazing colorist and stylist! From sassy bobs to long face-framing layers, she is always on point. Her highlights are to-die-for (natural-looking & they grow out beautifully). Her skill and friendly personality will keep me coming back to her chair time and time again!
Highlights always look great - very natural. I go to Luna for highlights, cuts, and eyebrow waxes. Always get lots of compliments on their great work. Wonderful, friendly staff. Great atmosphere.
My first visit to Luna was last night and I wasn't disappointed. Marti did a fabulous job with my hair. She took time with the texturing and did exactly what I asked for. I will definitely be returning soon! It is really hard to find a good salon, and I have visited a lot in Center City (in all price ranges), and this is the place I'm going to stay. Thank you Marti!
Pros: talented staff, friendly atmosphere
Cons: none that I saw during my first visit
I had to respond to the last few reviews that commented on cecily - i have been going to her faithfully for years and have never had a problem and always love my cut and color (especially the color)....and i always get compliments and have referred several of my friends who have also fallen in love with her...
Mae has been cutting my hair for about a year, and she is wonderful.\r
No matter what she does my hair looks great, and she really seems to enjoy her job. Plus either she's a really great actress, or her complements really are genuine. She never sounds fake like some hairstylists do.\r
I feel compelled to voice my concerns about Cecillie's dye jobs, as I also had a mini disaster. I would have had Mae do it, but she was not around, and I was stupidly on a time crunch. I ended up with really dark purple/black streaks on the top of my hair where I used to have highlights. The were very receptive to having me come back in, but trying to wash it out just didn't work. Eventually Mae just cut them out. But this is the first time I've had my hair dyed professionally so maybe it just happens.
Pros: Ambience, Mae's haircuts
I got my hair colored by Cecily and it's horrible. HORRIBLE. It's stripey and unnatural, but worse yet, some of the ""low lights"" are orange. I had to pay to have it fixed somewhere else but there was just so much they could do. Cecily doesn't know what she is doing when it comes to color. Take my advice, DO NOT get your hair colored here!
Cecilie has been cutting my hair at Luna for the past several months, and I'm very happy with her work. As a middle-aged man, I'm always concerned that the cut should look stylish but still be age-appropriate for me. Cecilie has modernized my hairstyle in a way that makes me feel comfortable and confident in the look that she has created. She has also offered good advice about products to enhance the cut, and she has taken the time to explain to me how to use the products effectively. Cecilie's pleasant manner also makes for an enjoyable overall experience when I visit Luna. I highly recommend her work for anyone who is looking to improve his or her personal style.
i get my hair done at luna, and everyone is awesome! i bounce around to pretty much everyone, and i havent been dissapointed yet. i have extremely dark hair(almost black) and i get it platinum blonde. i know it is difficult (and i can be too) but i LOVE it. i also have very coarse hair which in the past has seen some awful haircuts, it really requires alot of time to do it and i always recieve the utmost care and attention to detail. luna is spectacular!!! as long as i live in philly they're stuck with me\r
Pros: friendly, fun,cost effective
Recently I went to have my hair highlighted by Cecliy at Luna Salon. It was my first visit to the salon. I asked for blond highlights but keeping my natural brown base ? so no single process. By the end of the visit my hair was orangy and brassy (no more brown) --I had light roots and darker streaks in some places. I tried to tell Cecily the hair needed more brown, and she insisted it looked ""buttery."" In good faith, I gave her a huge tip and went home thinking that maybe I needed to see the hair in my own bathroom light. The color looked like I had used sun-in (from the 80s). I didn't panic, thinking that in my experience (having had my hair colored for many years) my past colorists ALWAYS try and work hard to make sure clients are happy (I've been to about 6 different colorists over the years) -- I called on Saturday morning (the next day) asking Cecily she could fit me in to put some brown in the hair because I was embarrassed to go to work on Monday with orange hair. She called me back about an hour later and told me she was just too busy and could do my hair later the next week (Thursday or Friday). I told her that it would mean losing my business -- but this didn't seem to matter -- she wasn't interested. Because I was so embarrassed by my hair, I called around town to find a reputable place to do my hair and went to Gerry at Salon Thalia. He agreed that the hair was brassy and the color had 'hot spots' or blotches of orange at the root. He also said that he would stay as late as it took to make sure a client was happy with her hair. He fixed my hair (which added another 120$ to the 160$ I paid at Luna and another 2 hours onto the 3 hours I had already spent). So just a note to all you gals out there to avoid Luna Salon -- they have inexperienced colorists who can't recognize when color bleeds at the root, and most importantly, they didn't try and accommodate me when they botched the job.
Cons: incompetence, poor customer service, expensive
Had a great cut my first time there; a so-so cut the second time; and an absolute-hate-it cut the third time I went there. All done by the same stylist. The last time I was there, I was seen 35 minutes late; no apology nor the mention of it; snotty attitude; bitchy comments made to a fellow stylist- in front of other custmers about a customer seen previously. So, if you like a gamble, go for it. Results are not guaranteed; a great deal of variation in work. I am not that hard to please, but I am totally unhappy with this last cut (sloppy, uninspired, who-did-this-to-you type of cut), so I will not be back. It's shame- the stylist is talented, but should show more consistency with her work.
Recently visited Luna for the first time. Needed a single process. Based on the reviews here, I made an appt. with Mae and was not disappointed. She was friendly and the color looks great. She took interest in my thick, difficult hair and offered to thin my hair. And she didn't charge me! Wow. I will never go back to Pierre and Carlo. \r
The salon is relaxed and the stylists are friendly.
Pros: reasonable prices, upbeat vibe
I was a regular customer at Luna up until now. Between haircuts, I would go in for monthly trimmings of my bangs. In the beginning, the salon didn't charge me; they were complimentary. Last time, however, I was informed that ""my complimentary trims were up"" and it would cost $15. To me, $15 is way too much to pay for a few snips -- especially for someone who buys products, special treatments, and haircuts there on a regular basis. I coughed it up, but I later called Luna to see if a better price could be negotiated. I was told that the manager would call me back. He/she never did. \r
Although I have always been satisfied with my haircuts at Luna, I doubt I will go back. There seems to be no advantage to being a regular customer there. I have now found a place that will trim my bangs for $5. That's more like it!
I love, love, love Luna Salon. This statement should not be taken lightly. I once lived in a part of the States where it was impossible to find an acceptable salon, and thus, I resorted to cutting my own hair before letting someone else do it. Luna has been the answer to my prayers. Everyone is friendly and willing to assist you the second you walk in the door. I always make my appointments spontaneously, and they are consistently accommodating. Cecily is my stylist and her precision and eye for detail are highly polished. She is very professional, yet appropriately conversational. An appointment with Cecily never fails to brighten my day. I am always incredibly satisfied with the end result, as Cecily is able to successfully communicate what should be done, what could be done, and what will be done. Cecily is the best stylist I have ever experienced in my life. Aside from the wonderful service, the salon is always spotless. I have sent many of my friends here, and nobody has been disappointed.
Pros: Staff, Cleanliness, Pampering, Punctuality
My boyfriend and I travel over 40 miles to get our hair cut at Luna. I won't let anyone else touch my hair. They are always on top of the latest trends and customize them for your look. I have never left unhappy and always receive tons of compliments. I would highly recommend this salon.
Pros: Atmosphere, People, Skill
I really like this salon. Cecily always does a nice job with my hair, and that's saying a lot since I usually let her do what she wants with it.
I like the atmosphere of the salon - Contemporary without attitude. My hair is a bit difficult to cut (thick and I like short cuts) and my cut needed some improvement. It was a little sloppy, a little tame. However, judging from the compliments of others, I think it's my difficult hair and if I were you, I'd still give the salon a try. The price is middle range, and for a New Yorker, it's actually not that expensive.
Glen did a great job cutting my hair, and the shampoo massage was also a treat. My hair looks much better than when I walked in.
Luna Salon is the best because of Glenn! I come from NJ to get my haircut and color by Glenn. He is the bests hairdresser I have ever had and is the only one that I will let cut and color my hair. Luna Salon is the cleanest Salon I have ever been in. I recommend Luna Salon because of the results, environment and friendliness of all the employees. I can't wait for my next haircut and color, Glenn!
Pros: Friendliness and excellent enivornment
Cons: Can't afford to come as often as I would like!!!!!!!!!!!! and that's a personal con otherwise I don't have any Cons.
I found Luna on Citysearch when I was in search of a hairdresser that would listen to me and would also know the latest techniques and trends. Quite simply: Luna is the BEST. I go to Cecily & she's awesome. Great cut, FABULOUS color & highlights. I cannot say enough great things about Luna. Very relaxed atmosphere - but make no mistake - these stylists have talent. Go! You will not be sorry.
Pros: Very talented staff, Bumble & Bumble products
I found Luna on CitySearch, and I liked what I read about Mae. It was true! Her year at Vidal Sasson in London has given her excellent hair cutting skills - as well as the ability to create a contemporary look that's great for looking professional at work and cool on the weekends. I haven't had such an expert cut in a while (which is why I was looking for someone new). And I haven't even mentioned what a great job she did with coloring my hair. It's warm, glistening - what more can you ask for? Luna looks great in its new digs - I used to go there a few years back and it's expanded to a beautiful new space. Staff was friendly at the welcome desk - with none of the snootiness you find in some hair salons. And I love the Bumble and Bumble products - I have course hair and it feels so soft I cannot believe it. It felt relaxed and lovely to be there. Sipping water scented with fresh lemon, I felt like - you can go home again.
Pros: it's all pro
I went to Luna for the first time and Mae colored, cut and styled my hair. She is new to the salon but very skilled. She trained in London at Vidal Sassoon and it shows. She cut my hair with a precision I've rarely experienced. She also listened to my wants and needs and she was really easy going. I love the style and my husband says ""it's the prettiest cut I've ever had"". The salon itself is beautiful, comfortable and most importantly, CLEAN! I'll definitely be going back.
Cecily is wonderful! You can tell she really enjoys what she does and takes a lot of pride in making her clients happy. Luna is a Bumble & bumble salon, but there is no pressure to ""up-sell"" you (although they do have a nice array of B&b stuff for those who want to buy). I went on a Saturday morning and the place was reeeeeally chill. I expect it's busier at other times, but the space is relaxing and has a nice open feel to it. I can't imagine it ever feeling annoyingly crowded. It's also devoid of that chemically smell that a lot of salons have. The prices are very fair too. I will definitely return!
Pros: Location, atmosphere, price, great products, good people
I visited Luna, without an appointment, and they were able to fit me in within ten minutes for a cut and color. Cicily was my stylist. She explained everything well and was not pushing at all with product. \r
I am from out of town, but I will be back to see Cicily!
Pros: Accomodate walk-ins, location
Glenn cut my hair and I was so happy with the results! I have been to a number of highly recommended salons in the city trying to find a salon I could stick with. This will be my favorite salon! Glenn understood what I was looking for (I bring photos of haircuts to show what it is I want; don't want to every salon visit) and cut my hair exactly as I wanted. The other salons, even with the pictures, did not. He writes down the products that he uses in your hair (they are a Bumble & Bumble salon), but there is no pressure to purchase them. The salon is also in a gorgeous new space which just made the visit even better. The staff were extremely friendly and personable and made you feel comfortable. I recommend this salon to everyone!\r
4/6/07 Went back again to Glenn & he gave me a new look with some modifications/suggestions and I am so happy with the results! It's a completely new look for me which I had about 10 yrs. ago & needed a change. I suggested the style & he made the modifications for my hair type. I couldn't be happier!
Pros: Great haircut, comfortable atmosphere, knowledgeable
Cons: Can't think of any
I went to Luna for the first time today and was very, very pleased. Everyone there was extremely friendly, warm, and welcoming. The decor is cool--the salon is stylish and trendy, and it gets even better when you find that no one is stuffy what-so-ever (which is typically the case in places like that). The atmosphere is extremely relaxing and every is very personable . I usually panic when getting my hair cut--the stylist usually makes it too short or just plain doesn't make it look good--but not here. Lori cut my and did an awesome job. She did exactly what I wanted (even though i wasn't quite sure what i wanted at the time!). Love it, love them, highly recomend it.
Pros: service, ambience, skill
I recently moved to the area and have been searching for a salon - Luna is definitely the one! Kelly cut my hair and did an amazing cut and style and was very friendly... I had my eyebrows done with Glenn and they are PERFECT! Everyone at the salon was very nice - no snobby attitude!
Pros: Bumble and bumble, Relaxing, Friendly
I was recommended to Jill at Luna by a friend and I couldn't be happier!! Jill did an amazing job with my highlights and the cut was exactly what I wanted. Everyone there was so friendly and the service was top notch. The salon has a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere.
Pros: Jill, Atmosphere, Location
