Two visits. The first when I was looking for a dress. They completely did not listen to what I wanted. I was shown some pretty tacky dresses that were the opposite of what I wanted. Second experience. I was looking for a specific bolero to go with the dress I purchased at another shop. The problem with the original shop is that they didn't carry the brand that corresponds to the jacket I wanted. Carlisles was listed as having the brand I wanted so I went in. There were two sales people and no customers in the store yet getting someone to answer my question was difficult. The woman was condescending. She didn't even bother to say hello. She basically told me I was an idiot. I don't get how this business can survive with this sort of b.s.

Due to the timing of my wedding, I had to buy a dress "off the rack". I found a dress that I liked but it was several sizes too big. I was assured that the alterations would not be a problem. The first several times I went back for fittings it still wasn't even wearable. I finally had to convince them to basically rebuild the whole top of the dress the weekend before my wedding. When I finally took it home, it was at least wearable, but barely- the bottom was still too big, and the top was SO tight that I could barely breathe. The straps literally cut my skin by the end of the day. I called to talk to the manager and she semi-apologized but spent more time defending her store. Was super disappointed with their lack of customer service throughout the whole entire process. I'm about the most low maintenance bride you'll find, but this was still stressful enough that I felt compelled to warn other brides about this place.

This was the worst experience wedding shopping I had. I only went there to see a certain designer of a dress that they said they had. When I got there they only had 1 of their dresses and they said they had the dress for over 6 years just sitting there. You can tell their dresses are older dresses and they don't have a good selection. On top of they, they are rude. I did try on a dress and when I said I didn't like it, she left me in the dressing room to try to get out of it myself. I had to go out and get my mom to help get the zipper down.

Then today, I found they sold my info to other companies. I received 3 calls this morning from photographers, dj, videographers all saying that they got me from "carlisles hit list" they bought. I am not looking forward to all the calls that will be coming in on my cell in the next few days.

Brides Beware! Carlisle's will be kind and caring to get your business, but when there's a problem, the owner is nasty and unprofessional. Bride fell in love with a dress at a bridal show. We were measured and ordered the bridal gown, a mother of the bride gown and a mother of the groom gown. All came in too small! Mother of the bride had to have a gown off the rack altered as there was no time to reorder. Owner offered to add material to the bridal gown which was not acceptable as it would be so obvious. DO NOT sign any papers until you are satisfied with the product or you will be stuck with your purchase. We were able to find the perfect bridal gown at another store that did not require one single alteration! The wedding was absolutely beautiful without a bridal gown from Carlisle's. Highly suggest you shop elsewhere and avoid the stress, humiliation and frustration this establishment has caused us.

Our experience at Carlisle's could not have been more satisfying. Our consultant was friendly, knowledgeable and able to show dresses that best suited my daughter's age & style. Although it was only our FIRST appointment -- in what we thought could be an endless search that might finally end only in New York -- we left that appointment with our order placed. She said "Yes To The Dress" - it was absolutely beautiful.

To read some reviews that are so unsatisfactory is confusing to me. We could not have been treated more kindly or with more respect. They have a huge inventory to accommodate any & every style and price range. If you can't find a gown at Carlisle's, you either (a) haven't seen all they have to offer, or (b) it just isn't available in Pittsburgh.

Alterations, however, ARE a different issue altogether & I concur with the review of Fran K.. I, too, found it unsettling that alterations must be paid in cash (not even personal check!). I understand the relationship between the store & the seamstress, but there must be a way to handle it in a less awkward fashion. And Alterations was the one area in which I had the distinct impression we were being "taken for a ride" (i.e., whatever the traffic would bear!).

My daughter's dress was approximately $1400 -- alterations were OVER $700!! The A-line gown needed only taken in just slightly from bust to hip, hemmed & bustled. I thought it was excessive, since my gown also had a double skirt, needed taken in thru the bodice & hemmed, and my seamstress charged me $100. But since she now works only 2 days a week, she was unable to commit to fittings & alterations on a wedding gown. So beware of these charges -- they're quite high. Perhaps the store & their "contract" seamstresses could work out a more equitable arrangement in order to better serve the customer.

I want out shopping with my mom for our 4th time, After many frustrating experiences at different salons around Pittsburgh I met Amanda at Carlisle's. She had such an ear for listening to exactly want I wanted and gave me a really nice experience. I bought my dress at Carlisle's and can not wait to go back to order my bridesmaids.

I literally left this store in tears they were so rude to me. I felt completely shunned because I wasn't buying one of their most expensive dresses. The salesgirl Amanda was both condescending and bitchy--it was awful and humiliating. I love the idea of a family business but it seems as though their sales staff needs an overhaul. This was an absolutely awful experience for me.

We went to Carlisle's this weekend and had the WORST experience ever! I would not wipe my butt with a dress from that shop. The sales girl was SO mean and was so rude and arrogant! I bought my dress there a few years ago so I thought it would be a good place to go for my sister's dress.. DO NOT GO- Unless you want to be interrogated and treated like a five year old by total tanned up clubby wench that totally was hungover from late night at some trashy bar in the strip. My brother has an exgirlfriend that is a total wench and the girl that was our "salesperson" was 300 percent worse and make car salesman and policiticians look good. This store does NOT know who their customers are. I think the sales girl thought she was Courntey Kardashian or something. I have never been so insulted in my LIFE! We all ran out of the store to get away from her! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!

After visiting a number of bridal salons, my daughter had a good experience at Carlisles and bought her bridal dress. It was reasonably priced and the consultant correctly ordered a size smaller than what my daughter usually wears.
What people need to know is that alteration appointments are only made on Friday's and alterations costs are expected to be paid in CASH. This just didn't feel right.

I had an appointment with Amanda at Carlisle's and it was the most pleasant experience trying on bridal gowns I've ever had! Jan and Amanda were amazing to work with! I ended up buying a gown that was exclusive to their store right there on the spot, though I hadn't originally planned to purchase one that day. They were so informed, personable and very professional and made me feel so comfortable and confident with my choice. I also got most of my accessories that day, based on Jan and Amanda's recommendations. These ladies definitely know what they're doing! I highly recommend visiting them!

I made an appointment with Carlisle's more or less as "practice" for my upcoming appointment at a more expensive store. I didn't really think I was going to buy a dress. But, Charlene was so helpful and attentive that I ended up finding my dream dress that very day!!! The ladies are very well-informed, attentive, classy and not pushy at all. No wonder they've been in business so long!!! This is a small store, with an cozy boutique atmosphere. A must-visit if you're a Pittsburgh-area bride.

This was the worst experience I have had trying on wedding dresses. 1) WEBSITE: I asked to see a dress that was on the website and they had no idea what was on their website. I tried to describe it, still nothing. Then I asked if the could pull up the website and they said they didn't have internet.
2) Employee: the girl I had to help with dresses just said "Go through and pull the dresses you want to try on." I told her I was new to this and wanted some of her suggestions. She pulled a few dresses but wasn't very excited about me being there at ALL!
3) Dresses: It was a small selection and a lot of the dresses looked like they were 10 years old with fraying ends and makeup stains on the dresses. The worst part is that most of the dresses were a size 6 or 8 and I need a 10 or 12. All of the dresses looked horrible on me b/c they were no where near my size, not to mention this is supposed to be a good experience for a new bride, instead it was humiliating. I am not a big person but I am not a size 6 either! They told me I didn't have to bring anything with me when I asked if I needed to bring a bra or shoes or a slip. They didn't give me a slip and the strapless bra was very old and poorly made.
4) Bridesmaids dresses: The selection was poor and there were several dresses that had styles of the 1980s or dresses that someone would wear for an ice skating or dancing with the stars routine. By those dresses being at this place, I knew this was not the place for me.
I have since been to nicer bridal shops and had a great experience. Some of my friends had a better experience at Carlisle's but I wanted to share mine. Just being honest.

I did not end up getting my dress from Carlisles, but I am very glad that I experienced their establishment. The staff was very friendly and super accomadating. I really did find a dress that was fantastic, but it came in second to my ultimate choice. I would highly recommend visiting Carlisles!

They have the most beautiful wedding dresses. I love the selection the staff and basically everything about it. My friend got her wedding gown there and I had to get my bridesmaid dress there. The cost was average but the seamstress and the service was wonderful. I am very thankful that the bride to be had such a good experience and more importantly so did I. Our dresses came in in a timely fashion and they look beautiful. They also have wonderful accessories to go with the gowns.

As the first place I went to shop for my wedding gown, I did not know what to expect when I walked into Carlisle's. What I found were women who were eager to help and excited to be a part of your special journey. They were amazingly attentive and helpful. While I ultimately purchased my gown from another store because they carried the designer I was looking for, I would highly recommend Carlisle's. I purchased my bridesmaid dresses from them and am happy that they will still be part of my special day. If you are going, ask for Evelyn - she is wonderful!
