This is the Best Pizza in Philly! The slices are large and delicous! It's great for a late-night snack or lunch during a day of wandering the shops of South Street.

South Street Sushi is a mirage, a hallucination, an eruption of passion lined thinly with a nightmarish hue. Like a tribal rite of passage, its essence cannot exist outside of the hours of 2:00 am - 4:00 am, as if a greasy, grungy Brigadoon bloomed and blossomed from the bitter sidewalks of South Street every night.
To attain this level of enlightenment, the subject must consume enough alcohol that they would be considered a "crying out for help" by certain audiences. Next, after a confused, sometimes frightening trek through the shadowy South Philly streets, the subject must obtain one cheesesteak from Jim's Steaks, at 4th and South streets. The cheesesteak is carefully transported to Lorenzo's, one block east, and kept in its wrapping while the subject purchases any one slice of Lorenzo's gargantuan pizzas.
The subject carries the two items outside, and in a fit of gluttony, drunkenness and shame, wraps the jumbo slice of pizza around the cheesesteak, and shovels the sickening combination down its throat like a snake swallowing a helpless mole.
But like a river in the deep, dry desert, it is but an illusion. For when the feeling is gone, and the day is new, your life-changing accomplishment sends you spiraling back to Earth with a long, long lecture - courtesy of the porcelain god.
Only those who truly with to live their lives to the fullest will experience this miraculous disaster. It will change your life.

Often undercooked. Often overhyped. It's okay if you're wasted and need something in your belly. Otherwise, avoid.

Pros: Location

Cons: Taste

This place practices the old adage of dome one thing well, and do it a lot. They are located in the heart of South St. They sell pizza and sods, and that's it. While you can buy a whole pie, they predominantly sell by the slice. The line is always out the door. The price is cheap. The pizza is superb

After a long night at Makos which is right next down and you are feeling hungry this is the place to go. Good pizza for cheap. Massive slices bigger than your face!

There are no seat in the place but most of the time people just come in grab a bit and go back out onto south street to shop or hang out.

The staff are crazy, friendly with attitude in a good way.

Cheapest place for a bite to eat on south street

Love the pizza--- good sauce, giant slices, nice and thin. I guess the location is good(being on south street), but its literally the same pizza as lazaros at 18th and south. Both pizzas are great, but I like to sit down to eat

This is a place to go if you are a pizza lover. The slices are huge and the price isn't bad. This is one place you get what you pay for. you can get one slice and walk away satisfyed. I just have one issue. For some reason the puzza here is always better on the weekends

I try to get out to Lorenzos once a week if I can. The pizza doesn't taste like cardboard and has the right consistancy always. Of the many times I've been there, I had one pie that was so so and it was still good. There is no need for toppings when the pizza is that good. As for the mirrored back room... I personally think its kinda cool. Kind of a throw back to the quirkiness that South Street used to have. Price is right and the staff moves everyone through there very quickly even if there is a line. I can only eat one slice and my bf can only eat two. Thats saying alot for two people that love to eat and have a huge appetite.

The pizza here is outragously good. No, there really isn't proper seating, there is always a line, they charge for boxes, BUT THE PIZZA IS SO DAMN DELICIOUS! Take it home to enjoy or eat it on your way home. Huge slices of mozzerella goodness. Yum!

first off, you can't trust any pizza place that the owners don't actually work in, but who can blame them, being that the place is clearly a converted public restroom, which is fitting, since eating the half-assed pizza is something like munching on a sopping handful of used toilet paper. Weak sauce, and too little of it, gobs of cheap, flavorless cheese, and a thick, gummy, barely-done crust make it tedious going after the first few bites. It seems like a laundromat for mob cash, the pizza being an afterthought. So if you're in the area, and are really desperate for pizza, go for it. I guess you can always imagine that it's good.

The person who recommends the Italian Market Lorenzo's is dead on, except it's on 9th and christian.

My husband took me to his favorite spot (Lorenzo's) while he is working near South Street sometimes and it was incredible!!!! We took our five year old son who is a pizza phanatic too and he loved it as well. Anyone who is from Philly can vouch for this place and knows that the ingredients are fresh and not cheap as some of the other reviews may be claiming. I love the way the pizza just melts in your mouth. Excellent all the way around. There are no need for toppings because you wouldn't want to be covering this pizza up with anything more. I am from Southwest Philly origininally and now live in delco and I'm going there tonight for Good Friday for a whole pie to bring home to my family too!

So, Lorenzos is not, "I'm just walking around South Street and I'm hungary" kind of pizza. Lorenzos is a "I just had a long night of drinking and I've never been so hungary in my entire life" kind of pizza. I agree, Lorenzos is average pizza for those that are casually hanging out. But if you're drunk, or even better, hammered, and the bars have closed, and you need a snack, Lorenzos is the absolute BEST THING EVER!!!! It cures your hangover for the next day too!

Cons: If you're belligerent, don't go. People cut in line and you just have to live w/ it.

.

i'm not sure how this 'restaurant' got in philly's top 10 pizza places. it sure seemed popular by the long line and crowd out front, but the pizza tasted average at-best. your only option was cheese pizza (unless you bought a whole pie), and there was no place to sit down (only a strange back room with mirrored walls and paper-plate-width counter). definitely not worth a trip unless you're already on south street.

I think the rude service and crappy "standing dining area" only add to the charm of this cheap pizza place. We still go there every time we are on south street.

You can't get toppings. There is no seating. You just walk up and say how many slices you want and if you want a soda. Their huge slices have a slightly sweet sauce which is typical of Philadelphia pizza. Pay if you want it in a box to go, which I almost always do when I stop for pizza before heading to a concert at Electric Factory. Much better than the other pizza I've found in this city. Not quite like New York style pizza, but pretty good. The pizzas are huge so I've never gotten a full one to bring home.

The pizza here is only OK. Nothing special about it. It's cheaply made with cheap products, yet when people drink everything tastes better. Go to Lorenzo's on 8th and christian if you want real pizza with real fresh ingrediants. This Lorenzo's suffices my midnight craving not my mid day lunch.

I love Lorenzo's. They do pizza, and that's pretty much it. But they do it really well. Don't be put off by a long line. It moves fast and shows that people really LOVE this place!

They are the best place on South Street to get a slice...and for really cheap! Don't be fooled by their prices, though, they have the best pizza in Philly. Their slices are more than generous and are reminisce of slices in New York City.

They are there mainly for the pizza, so the place does not have any chairs and no customer restroom (customers have ABUSED the place in the past). Personally, I feel like it gives the place a little character, and I never find it to be nuisance.

The staff is friendly with a slight bite, making them great to go to with friends. The staff is just hilarious to interact with and will do their best to make the customer feel like family.

They might not have parmesan or slices with toppings, but their plain old cheese pizza is out of this world. After being in California for 8 months I truly have a deeper appreciation for Lorenzo's. If anyone is visiting from out of town, we will definitely make it a point to stop here at least once. Yeah...so you have to stand in a single file line and choose between eating out on the street or back in their closet of a "dining room", but the pizza is so good, it's worth the aggravation.

I've had better pizza in Germany. Lorenzo's was good back in the 80's but has since fallen off by using cheap ingredients. I think the reason people rave about it because 1. Philly lacks a real good Pizza parlor and they have nothing to compare it against. 2. Lorenzos is open late and there is a lack of late nite eateries in Philly. When you're drunk and hungry almost anything will taste good.

There's a lot of bad reviews about this place, but I know why that is. Probably most of the reviewers are from Philadelphia and have lived in Philadelphia their whole lives. Let me tell you why this is significant. I was born and raised in Philly, and was spoiled by delicious pizza from the NE to South Philly to Trenton. A couple of years ago, I moved to Chicago. Ever hear of "Chicago deep dish pizza?" It's HORRIBLE. You cannot get a decent slice of pizza here. The thin crust is awful too.
Whenever I come back to Philly to visit, the first thing I want to do is get a decent pie. The last time I was there I got Lorenzo's and it was a slice of heaven. Yea the lines are long, the counter people are rude, and there's no variety, but the slices are HUGE and the taste is pure Philly.

Sometimes it's great. Othertimes, it's marginal. A slightly doughier Brooklyn style slice for just $2... but I think most people like it because it's only $2, basically the cheapest lunch on an otherwise expensive tourist trap of a street.

If you're looking for impeccable sauces, unique toppings, and perfectly cooked dough, go elsewhere because you shouldn't be on South St. If you want way above average quality pizza for a mere buck and a half that will fill a grown man in 2 slices, Lorenzo's is the place. The pizza comes piping hot with some garlic and oregano to sprinkle on top. Don't bother looking for plastic wear, the tiny waiting/eating area should tell you that right off the bat. It's open til the wee hours of the night, so you can conventiently stop in for a quick slice after an eventful night to boot. Nothing fancy here, but if it were I doubt it would be as fun.

You gotta love this place! Although, there is no seating, why would you need a seat? Grab your slice and walk up South and see the wonders of late night S. Philly. Friends of mine that live out of state ALWAYS make a trip to Lorenzo's when they're in town. Whether your at the TLA catching a show, Fat Tuesday's watching the game or out for a night of drinking, more than likely at the end of the night you will be eating the biggest, juiciest, best tasting slice of pizza that Philly has to offer.

Ok, the service is like Pat's & Geno's, only way to get a topping, (1 choice, pepperoni) you have to get a large or extra large pizza, & these pizzas are so big they have to cut it in 1/4's to fit in a box. It's a small place, no place to sit, only a small room in the back with mirrored walls & a counter, there's always a line, but while you're waiting, you get to watch them make the pizzas, an experience in itself.
Whether you're sober or under the influence, you will most likely admit that it's one of the best slices of cheese pizza you've ever had, I normally hate cheese pizza, but at Lorenzo & Son they use fresh ingredients & you get it straight from the oven, never had a slice yet I wasn't happy with. A Philly experience you don't want to miss.

AT 2am on South St, Lorenzo's is the place to go to get a slice. Mostly because if you're completely trashed you won't notice that the pizza is undercooked. At most other times of day, the pizza is actually cooked and such huge slices may actually be worth waiting in a line for a plain slice.

Never have I seen a bouncer at a pizza place before but after seeing the crowd and eating the pizza I see why a bouncer is a must! He keeps the line moving and the people in line. The line is around the corner at 2am with a bunch of "happy" late night partiers who need something good to eat and this is the place to go. No ambience, service is fast but that's about it and the pizza is the best. If you're on South Street, day or night, make this place one of your stops. It will be worth your while!

This is great pizza. Coming from New York, I have never seen a place that has such big friggin' slices of pizza. This place puts philly on the map for more than just cheesesteaks. The slices are thin, but the pies these slices come from has to be at least 12" in radius, and they are good.

Cons: cramped

well, the atmosphere is excellent here, the service is quick, the $2 large slices are a good deal, and the pizza isnt bad. I'm not saying its the best pizza in the world, but its pretty good. It probably has such a good reputation because its a good place to go when your drunk and have $2 in your pocket, cause everything tastes a little better then. I however, wasnt drunk and still thought it was good. So I'd recommend.

A great deal for an enormous slice of pizza that's the perfect after hours snack. Let's face it, no one would stand in a long line to deal with pretty brusque service if the pizza weren't good. While I love crispy, brick oven dough, I make an exception for Lorenzo's chewy, soft crust.

There's not much to it. Pizza and soda, but it's good pizza. And at $2 for a huge slice, it's a great deal, too. Unlike another place about 14 blocks west on South St that also sells huge slices for $2, this pizza is actually really good. The sauce and crust are, to me, consistently good. Service is quick, and gets the long lines moving. I just wish I didn't live across town, because a slice and a soda from here is my favorite $3 lunch.

I was there a few nights ago, and they serve a huge slice for $2. My friend was joking and said it looked like the whole pie itself. This place is addictive...sometimes it don't taste the same as the other nite, but it is still good.

THE BEST SLICES PERIOD.
WAS A LITTLE SKEPTICAL BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET A TOPPING ON A SINGLE SLICE, BUT IT DIDN'T NEED IT.
THE FULL PIE (WHERE YOU CAN GET SLICES) IS OUTSTANDING. THEY DON'T SACRIFICE QUANTITY OVER QUALITY. YOU GET BOTH.
THE SERVERS COULD USE A LITTLE EDUCATION IN CUSTOMER SERVICE, JUST BECAUSE YOUR PRODUCT SELLS ITSELF DOESN'T GIVE YOU CARTE BLANCHE TO BE RUDE.
ATMOSPHERE IS NONE; THE OLD BROAD STREET SUBWAY STATIONS ARE CLEANER AND PRETTIER. TAKE YOUR SLICE OUTSIDE AND PEOPLEWATCH!

Their pizza absolutely melts in your mouth. The slices are huge and the prices per slice are VERY reasonable. My favorite time to go: late night/early morn right after out partying when I'm feeling pretty toasty from the alcohol. If you haven't tried this pizza, I HIGHLY recommend this place!

For anyone who goes please do all of us a favor and order the right way. They are good guys just doing a job.

It's alright. The slices are BIG- the service MEAN. The anticipation (very long line) doesn't live up to the wait.

My advice- walk down the street a block and get a Jim's steak

Pros: big slice, affordable

Cons: long wait, just okay

.

The menu choices consist of "one slice or two, plain or pepperoni." There is no place to sit. Service isn't exactly with a smile (they have to keep the line moving afterall).
What are all these things next to a perfect piece of pizza? I was on cloud nine when I bit into that slice. I keep looking for reasons to visit South St. just so I can go back for another piece - if you are in the area and in the mood for pizza, don't leave South St without stopping at Lorenzo's!

It is great to have a place to get good pizza late at night but you better be willing to wait. If your looking to try it out, best to go earlier in the day. Best part is the big slices.

Cons: Crowded

This pizza is about the only bet in town after 2:00am. The only problem is that on a weekend night the crowds are around the block. When you finally get the slice, it is usually rubbery and undercooked. If it is a slow night then you might get a slice that it overcooked and has the consistency of cardboard.

Pros: Only shot after 2:00a

Cons: Doesn't taste so hot.

I just have to say that I was NOT even a pizza person and Lorenzo's changed my whole outlook on that. I mean geez, one slice fills you, costs almost nothing, they're open until forever on the weekends and it tastes like a little bite of heaven. You couldnt ask for a better pizza spot. Philly Thanks you for years of GREAT service:-)

This is like the "pats & ginos" of pizza in philly. Everyone knows about it and eats there often, but it's not the best, just cause everyone does it. The slices are ridiculously huge, which is good, but it's no different than pats and ginos. No place to sit, and they just shuffle you through to get their money.
