My main complaint is that my steak was awful. I ordered the strip steak, and hardly any of it was edible. There was a tendon or artery than ran through the entire steak, making it extremely difficult to cut and chew.\r

I have been reading recent reviews of the Georgetowne Inn on Mount Washington, that have been rather negative. My boyfriends family just invited me and my daughter to share a Christmas celebration, as we did last year at this time of year.

I take that back - the bartender was lovely - but the rest should be fired. The young girl working as a hostess cannot tell time, cannot articulate well and is extremely rude. I took many people from out of town there for a 7 PM

The view is spectacular, but after that the quality begins to descend. The spinach salad with the warm bacon dressing was quite good and the French onion soup was fine, but I ordered a medium-well strip steak. The steak came out crispy on one edge and no pink was to be seen. When the waitress returned, she said "that does not look medium-well". I sent it back. The second steak still had some crispy parts and if one looked hard enough in the very center one could see a slight amount of pink. I do not recommend eating here. You are paying for the view, not for a quality meal.

If you are looking for a nice night out . this is not it.
Month's ago my husband and I made reservation for Valentine's Day dinner. We were looing for a restaurant that was a favorite for both of us. Georgetown Inn immediately came to mind. We made our reservation at 8:00 and arrived by 7:45. The valet tuned us away no parking available and we had to fiend for ourselves on a snowy and cold night. Strike one. My husband dropped me off and I was going to check in. I was able to step into the door and stood there for 20 minutes trying to make my way to the hostess stand. There was crowd of people so thick I could not move. Each waiting to check in for dinner. The hostess then told me that it did not matter that I had a reservation it would be two hours for a table. She was short with me and very rude and said if I did not want to wait I did not have to. I think she was hoping we would leave so she could get on with what was more important to her certainly it was not service. So we sat at the bar and waited. Perhaps that was the maser plan. The bartender by the way was great. After checking with the hostess periodically we were finally seated a little after 10pm. (Ridiculous) .the waitress although helpful was also not very attentive or friendly. she did not stop back at the table but one. Good thing I was not thursty! If you get a chance for a romantic nght out. dont go to the Georgetown Inn. you will only end up frustrated.

My husband and I made plans to go to the Georgetown Inn for New Year's Eve. We had been there many times in the past and had always enjoyed it; though it pales in comparison to the other choices Mt. Washington has to offer. I called and made a reservation three weeks in advance for 9:30 PM, at that time I was told that they would be only allowing customers stay at their table for a two hour maximum. I should've gone somewhere else knowing that the Georgetown managed busy nights by kicking people out of their tables, nice customer focus. My husband and I arrived at the restaurant at 8:45 PM and were told that they did not have a reservation under our name. The woman was so rude and basically made me out to be liar when I told her that I called three weeks ago. When I noticed that their reservation system was a note pad with pencil scribbled on it, I really wasn't surprised that they didn't have mine. Here's a novel idea, buy a reservation book or better yet invest in a computer. I was more put off by the hostess' rudeness than the fact they didn't have our reservation. After reading the reviews on this site, I guess we didn't miss much.

I truly wished I would have read these reviews prior to eating at the Georgetown Inn this past Friday night. All I can say is the majority of these described my experience perfectly. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! It has been several years since I was there last and let me say the inside has not changed: same dirty worn carpet, utterly dated tacky dcor and the wood on the walls looks as if an animal was trapped there and was scratching to get out!! Ok, the view of the city is beautiful, but who doesn??t know that. We did not have a reservation so we stopped in on a whim at around 7 o??clock expecting a long wait; however, they were able to accommodate our party of 5 within a half and hour??that is not a good sign!! When I first walked in, the young girl at the front did not even acknowledge me but the matre d?? (dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt mind you) was very helpful to get us seated. As for the food, Please take my word for it, TERRIBLE!! Just about the worst in the city!!!! I have had better pasta meals at Olive Garden and I hate chain restaurants!! $27.95 for over cooked pasta with shrimp and scallops that had the consistency of a rubber glove. Oh and like all of the reviews here, our French Onion soups were also warm at best; at least the chef is consistent there. I could go on but you get the point?this place needs to be closed down!! There are too many great restaurants in the city to waste your money at the Georgetown Inn!!!

The Georgetown Inn has a beautiful view of downtown Pittsburgh!! The plates are about $50 a piece, so plan on spending some cash, but well worth it!! The prime rib and french onion soup is delicious!!

We took my inlaws there for a 50th wedding celebration dinner. The view was beautiful, but you can get a better view by walking Mt. Washington and stopping on a
scenic overlook and even taking awsome pictures of the skyline. The french onion soup was good, but only warm, the bread was HARD to eat. The salad and veg. did not have any flavor to them and the dinner itself was O.K. but not worth the price. Oh ! and don't order alcohol, that will add at least another $30 to your bill. My suggestion would be to walk Mt. Washimgton for the view and then eat at your FAVORITE diner.

This is one of the worst restrautants I have ever visited. Reservations were difficult... the woman who answer the phone acted like this was the first time anyone ever call them. When entering, you pass though a very dark small hallway and all the wait staff look at you like you are from Mars.
I was seated one table away from the window... in the middle of the wait staff runway.
I ordered the Prime Rib with Yorkshire Pudding... The Yorkshire Pudding had to be at least a week old and cold. The Prime Rib has so much fat in it..that I would not even offer it to my dog. The broccoli was hard with no taste. The loaf of bread was stale. The french onion soup was OK but not hot. The wait staff was horrible.
The menu prices on the web site were much lower than the real price. Come on now... how much time does it take to update prices on a web site.
I will never think about going to the Georgetown Inn again.

Georgetown has always been a special place for my husband & I. We've taken out of town guests, celebrated anniversaries, and birthday's there. Recently took visitors from N.C. Felt we had a great meal for the price . . cheese board, a loaf of bread, soup & salad, and entree. Salad had no cheap iceberg lettuce. Everything was fresh. The waitress was very attentive. Got a thank you from our out of town guests specifically mentioning the trip to Georgetown Inn as a highlight of the visit.

My fiance and I went to the Gerogetown Inn for her birthday. When we arrive we were told to go up the stairs and we would be seated. So after squeezing through the bar we made are way up the stairs we were seated at the corner window seat. It felt like we were sitting at the same table as the people next to us. Are table was so wobbly that everytime we cut are salad or moved are drinks would spill how embarrising. Half way through my salad i noticed a piece of plastic in it . I told the waitress and she said " It happens all the time " So she offered us a free drink probably after noticing are drinks were spilled on the wobbly table. I ordered the fishermans plater it was horrible the best thing about the meal was the baked potato. I would not recommend this place to anyone.... Whoever used the term prompt seating must have been to the Georgetown Inn during a down time of the day. We made reservations for 8 pm the night before Valentines Day. We did not get seated unitl 9:05 pm. Understandibly there was a bit of a wait (even though you make reservations) but when I went up to check if my name was actually still on the list, it was circled with 6 names below me all crossed off. There were no apologies or compensation for the ridiculous wait. When we were seated and ordered our food, I got the French Onion Soup that was barely warm. The bowl was hotter than the soup. Very small portions. I was able to eat bread, cheese, salad, soup and still finish my meal. The service was great. When were were leaving the maitre d and hostess were practically making out at the coat check not paying any attention to the customers leaving the restaurant and thanking them for their business. I will never go back there even if I got a gift certificate.

For a restaurant on Mt. Washington, the Georgetowne Inn leaves much to be desired. The view is certainly outstanding, and the service very good, however, the restaurant is badly in need of updated decor. Other reviewers have said that it looks like you walked into 1960... this is true, but it is not even an upscale or "retro" look, moreso just worn and dated. The stucco on the walls is chipped and worn, and has the look of stagtites more than stucco; the chairs are comfortable, but belong in a country kitchen, not a "fine dining" establishment.

I give the Georgetowne 3 stars for the good service, large portions, good food, and very reasonable pricing, however it would behoove the owners to invest in some remodeling.

I'm not exactly sure where this place fits. It's a bit too expensive to be a casual dining place. The decor is too dated and unfashionable to be a good place for a special occassion or a date (unless you wear dentures). The food is mediocre. The view is excellent. However, if this is for a special event, I'd just as soon spend an extra $$ per person and eat at Monterey Bay or one of the other restaurants on the hill.

Happy 250 Pittsburgh, we made reservations for a 9:30 sitting to have dinner for my parent's 30th anniversary and see the beautiful fireworks display from one of the best seats in town. Arriving at 8pm to miss the traffic on Mt. Washington, we pulled in to have our car valet parked as I called ahead of time that evening to see if there would be valet--the girl on the phone said of course. My father is handicapped. The valet attendant was very rude and would not park my car--had to park 2 1/2 blocks away. Watched people slip the hostess money to get seating before others. Drunk people falling all over the place while waiting 2 hours for a table. Once the fireworks were over, we couldnt get to my car to bring back to my dad to pick him up, so we waited to eat --big mistake--finally got seated at 1115pm ALMOST 2 Hours after our reservation time. The wait staff was very rude, they had a busy night and could care less that we were going to pay just like the people ahead of us did. I have eaten here before on a slow night and it was nice--not quite worth the $$$. They had a different menu--$$ more than normal menu. Soup was cold, they rushed us through. Brought our dinners before they took away the salad plates. While waiting outside before the dinner--we watched the waitstaff and kitchen staff walk your food from a basement outside passing hundreds of people and then they took it to your table--Sanitary??? bathroom was dirty, Horrible experience to bring your parents to. We live an hour away and spent almost 41/2 hours here for a horrible dinner. The hostess and waitresses were super rude. it wasnt our fault they overbooked the reservations---greedy restaurant owner and I could have cooked a better dinner at home and saved $150.00. We will never go back to this restaurant and would recommend any other restaurant for a special occasion like this. My recommendation--have dinner downtown and ride the incline for the view. Save money, time and sanity.

Pros: The view

Cons: valet service poor, price for quality, staff rude, reservations dont matter

.

I've eaten at the Georgetown Inn several times. Obviously the view is amazing and very scenic. The menu is not very extensive, but it contains your standard meat, fish, pasta dishes. Each entree comes with a soup and a salad. The last time I visited I had the "Steak Oscar." It was a small filet accompanied by a small side of fettuccine with an alfredo crab sauce. The steak was cooked fine and the pasta was also fine, but I've never had a meal at the Georgetown Inn that "WOWed" me. The prices seem reasonable considering you get a salad/soup/bread with each meal. The one major thing that turned me off was the small dining room can get very noisy/loud if there is a large party at a table.

We visited Georgetown on Saturday night. We had 7:00 reservations and were told to wait upstairs in the lounge. When we sat at 7:41 I think the hostess forgot to inform the server she had a table because it took several minutes for ANYONE to come to our table. We found out our server was also just seated with a party of 13 and we were made to feel like an "inconvenience" rather than a "customer". Everything went downhill from there. We ordered a bottle of wine and they brought the cheeseboard. We ordered an appetizer and our server was "lost" again. By the time we ordered the main course it was after 8:30! We then received our soup - 18 minutes went by before we received our salads. Then the main course; how exciting! UNFORTUNATELY our son's grilled salmon was the ONLY dish prepared correctly but was lukewarm! Both my husband's and my steaks were ordered medium; his was Medium-Well to Well and mine was COMPLETELY well-done! Of course trying to find our server to inform her would have put us there until midnight! Then we received our check and it was wrong! She had given us the wrong check and put our gift certificate on THAT check! She brought us a check back where she tried to deduct the gift certificate off the line items on our check; which means we NEVER saw an accurate dinner check! Seriously the ONLY things positive about this experience was the wine and the view! And of course sharing the evening with my husband and my son. I tried to contact the owner and was told they would get back with me but, to no big surprise, NOTHING! I don't understand how people can give this place such a rave review if it is any indication of our experience. Shame on Georgetown for at least not having the courtesy to call me back! Bad business since there are too many places in the Greater Pittsburgh area to spend nearly $175 on a dinner for three people!

Pros: View only - not Ambience as VERY loud on first floor!

Cons: Food preparation and quality, Service, and noisy atmosphere - NOT Romantic!

After a long hike up Grandview Avenue we came upon the Georgetown Inn. We were hot, tired and hungry, so we stopped here for lunch. I would give this restaurant a 5 star rating for the view. We were fortunate to get a table at the window. It is a magnificent view of the city where the two rivers form into the Ohio River. I can't say enough about the view.

The restaurant itself is in desparate need of an udate. Everything is
worn and you just don't get a clean feel while you are there. Some of
the white cloth tablecloths had stains that did not come out in the wash.

My salad had a number of pieces of lettuce that were very wilted and browned. I expected the waitress to apologize when she saw what I left on the plate, but she didn't. Now, I am talking VERY BROWN.

The menu is from the 70s. It definitely needs some updating. I am a vegetarian and my only option was an omelette. If I were a vegan, there would not have been a choice at all.

I really think if this restaurant would give itself a make-over in decor and menu it could be quite a distinctive place.

I recently hosted a bridal shower for my daughter-in-law to be at the Georgetowne Inn, and it was a wonderful experience. We had 36 people at the shower, and Debbie made sure everything was set up so that we had room for gifts, cake, and prizes as well as room to decorate the tables with favors and centerpieces.

Our servers were excellent. They were very attentive to our needs, kept checking back to see if everything was okay, and very efficient about clearing things and leaving us time to celebrate and enjoy our time together.

The food was excellent, and the view superb. The bride-to-be is from the state of Indiana, and she and her family were very impressed.

The next important family gathering will be at the Georgetowne.

My family wanted to take our Grandfather out for his 80th birthday. We wanted to take him to a place that was in town. I heard of the Georgetowne Inn so I figured we would give it a shot. I called ahead to get some extra info that was needed, directions and if my handicap Grandmother would be okay in the establishment. I happened to mention in conversation that it was my Grandfather's 80th birthday. Later that night we head down to eat. We were seated upon walking in the door. (Given it was a Monday night) We all had a delicious meal, with tons of food! If you leave their hungry it is our own fault.( All meals come with soup AND a salad.) Our waitress was very good and kind! After we were done with our meals, out waitress brought out a cake dessert for my Grandfather. All of us thought another had mentioned it to them. Once we figured out that no one had said anything, we asked our waitress how she knew and she told us that the girl I talked to on the phone wrote it down. I just thought it was the nicest guesture! I know my Grandfather thought it was nice and we were all grateful the did such a sweet thing. We enjoyed our evening, with the best view in Pittsburgh. We WILL be going back!!!

my husband and I dined at the establishment this saturday night, and I can honestly say that I, as a patron have never been treated so poorly by a bartender in my life.... I can't believe that the upstairs bartender still has a job if he treats al his patrons the way he treated me. And I can't believe the management of this restaurant tolerated his behavior. He is downright RUDE. My husband and I had an 8:30 reservation. When we arrived we were told that are table was not quite ready and that we should wait at the bar upstairs. When we got there I couldn't decide what to drink, the bartender told me I needed to "make up my god-damned mind about what I wanted to drink" , that displays absolutley zero classs. I was stunned. Why should I go out to be treated like this. I will NEVER EVER EVER GO BACK !!!!!!

This was our first visit, and our last. My husband's clam chowder had not one bite of meat in it. It was a poorly done tasteless version of a vegetable soup. The bread was flavorless. Our food was tepid when served. Neither of our meals were good. They were average at best, although my husband complained that the sauce on his was "cloying". His chocolate cake looked and tasted like Sara Lee. My carrot cake was still partially frozen...yes, frozen! It was tasteless as well. I didn't even finish it. The service was surly. For over $100.00, our money could be much better spent. I'm actually offended that so many people review it nicely and that they call it 'romanic' when there are better views of the Point and better restaurants, such as the steakhouse in the Sheraton at Station Square.

I've been in Pittsburgh for almost a year and just recently discovered the Georgetowne Inn.What a beautiful restaurant. It looks like you're stepping into an old world pub, tucked away in a small village in Europe. The menu was simple with a great selection of steaks, seafood, chicken and pasta. The view is one of the best, over looking the point and three rivers beautifully. There are so many good restaurants in Pittsburgh to enjoy, this is a great one to enjoy.

My husband and I took a client and her husband a few weeks ago to the Georgetowne Inn and I want to say the staff was very nice and polite. However they need to invest money into expanding the bar areas and they need to hire a chef that can prepare a meal and have it served to their patrons warm. Everything was served either room temperature or cold. I do alot of entertaining with clients and I will say I will never entertain at the Georgetowne again. The only nice thing about spending $400.00 that evening for 4 people was we had a window seat.

My husband and I went to georgetowne inn for his birthday - we waited an hour and a half to be seated. It was 'light up' night in pittsburgh, so we made reservations several days in advance and were assured we would be seated in time to watch the fireworks. Nothing can excuse making customers wait more than 90 minutes for their table. We came from morgantown, and knew that we wouldn't get a table anywhere else that night, so we didn't have much of a choice rather than to wait. When we were seated, service was slow, and they started cleaning and putting away tables etc while we were still eating! Unacceptable. We have never had a bad experience at any of the other restaurants on Mt Washington.

My company had a regional gathering in the Pittsburgh area recently. We chose the Georgetowne Inn to host our dinner of approximatley 25 people. We were seated privately in the upstairs dining area. The setting was fabulous, offering an unparalleled view of the city, yet offering us the seclusion our business dinner required. (it was a weeknight)

The service was good as we had two servers assigned to our party. Drinks were served quickly and often, as one can imagine with a business gathering. The food was very good. All were served within 10 minutes causing no delays for anyone, and allowing our discussion to continue without a problem. No one in our group had any complaints about the service or their meal. With 25 people, that's pretty good!

The chef stopped by to introduce himself - a nice gesture, I thought. I would definitely recommend this establishment to any who are seeking a place to have a group outing, be it business or personal. Or even a quiet dinner out some night.

The Georgetowne Inn did not impress me at all! I have heard so many wonderful things about this restaurant over the years and finally got an opportunity to dine there with another couple. The food was okay, the view was nice, but on one of the hottest days of the summer the restaurant had no air! The food is priced rather high and I expected that...however I also expected food with flavor and perhaps a little flare. The presentation of the meal was at most average....but I will say that the blackened tuna was pretty good. My husband never wants to go back...his steak was very bland and his side of pasta was not enough to even feed to my 5 year old son. So, with that said.....consider where you go to eat! Just because its on Grandview Avenue overlooking the city doesn't mean its top notch dining. This restuarants might have one of the best views of the city but it definitely does not have the best food!

My mother-in-law visited PITT to attend a conference a few years ago. We wanted to take her some place SPECIAL for dinner, and the Georgetowne Inn came highly recommended. We had a 7 p.m. reservation. It was PROM night, and the KIDS obviously got there before we did. Additionally, there was a table of approximately 12 people - in plain view - already seated, having dinner, in blue jeans!!! Oh, I'm so sure they DID NOT have a reservation! We were told by the hostess repeatedly that it would be 20 MORE MINUTES, and if we left, we'd be lucky to get pizza delivery because it was PROM night. This went on until 10 P.M.!!!! When we were FINALLY seated at 10 p.m., my prime rib was quite good; HOWEVER, THEY RAN OUT OF THE FRESH VEGETABLE, AND SERVED ME CANNED CORN!!! ... because they ran out of the fresh vegetable for the day. I contacted the manager the next day, and he was 100% apathetic and RUDE!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT!!! Atrocious is not a STRONG ENOUGH word! I would rate it F, F-, F- -, into infinity and BEYOND! You'd have to PAY me to go back there!!!

Our waitress Charlotte was very polite and attentive. The atmosphere was nice.

My 2 daughters and one of my daughter's fiance had a nice meal.

I had a Manhattan for a before dinner drink. I thought it was a sad excuse for a Manhattan... seriously.

I had a Filet Mignon, that I ordered Rare. It came Medium. The waitress offered to take it back and get me another one, but I was not going to hold up my guests.

The cook needs to go back in training. A Filet Mignon cooked medium is ... well... you might as well be eating a hamburger.

I am glad my guests enjoyed their meals though. It was a celebration for one of my daughter's engagement.

My girlfriend and I visited the Georgetowne Inn on a Saturday night around 8pm. We called in advance and made reservations on the suggestion of a co-worker. Being unfamiliar with the area we planned on using the valet service but no one was in sight even though the sign was out front, we drove around a couple of the winding streets and eventually found a pay lot, no big deal. We arrived right at our reservation time and were seated without any wait. Having been waiters, both my girlfriend and I know what it's like to work in a restaurant and often sympathize with the workers when customers are being unpleasant. That being said here are a couple things we noticed during our visit. First, we were promptly greeted by our server once we were finished ohing and ahing over the view. We both really enjoyed the server, she was very pleasant and not overbearing as some of them can be. Even though Im not a huge fan of wine, we ordered some anyway and I found it quite tasty along with the crackers and cheese served upon arriving. After ordering an appetizer (highly recommend the mushroom caps!!) and dinner we were given the typical bread and butter. The bread came in loaf form and we werent given any type of bread knife to use and I could clearly see that other tables were. I asked the busgirl for a knife and she ran off to find one. 5 minutes later, still with no knife I asked another busgirl for one to which she replied Ill look but I dont think there are any other knifes in the place.?!? It may seem silly to complain about something like this but I was more disappointed in how they handled it rather than not actually having a knife. After that it went well, salads and dinner were good. Appetizers, wine, dinner and dessert ran us about $75. All-in-all it was nice to eat with a great view like that but nothing really stood out that would make us want to visit again.

Pros: View

Cons: Valet Service

We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday at the Georgetown Inn...there were 18 of us. While the service was good, except the water girl spilled water everywhere, the food was not. All the seafood was excellent. All the beef sucked. I ordered a combo of shrimp and prime rib...medium rare. The meat was served brown all over, room temp, and the aujus was cold. Everyone in our party who ordered meat was disappointed. I wrote the Georgetown Inn a letter prior to posting this and got no response whatsoever. Guess they don't care about people's opinions. I would never eat there again.

My wife and I along with two other couples visited the Georgetowne for the first time. within 10-15 minutes of our arrival we were seated at the table I had reserved. for a saturday night that is good timing. The food was excellent. The chef's potato and leek soup was outstanding. My wife really enjoyed the spinach salad. several of us had veal marsala which was very good and my buddies steak was done just right and his only complaint was he wished he were hungier so he could have had another. Portions were good sized and the service was very friendly and timely. The place is a little noisy. don't forget to try the peach melba. Great way to top off a meal. Afterwards we walked a short distance to the overlook to see the city. WHAT A GREAT NIGHT!!
