I do not write reviews, but when a five star review was posted on December 24, 2015, I couldn't help but to wonder if it was written by the staff themselves. The review has since been removed. It prompted a search of comments on multiple sites, and what was found is that all the negative reviews had something in common. I've spoken with reviewers whose comments were filtered on Yelp.
Had these reviews not been hidden, there would not be a necessity to write this one.

The staff at Barton Heights are very rude and the night dr (an older woman) has no idea what she is doing. We brought our 10 year old maltese in at around 11pm last week when she was twitching and falling over. They stood over us while we signed the consent paperwork so that they can bill us and the Dr ran an xray and blood panel. The Dr. had difficulty reading the x-ray and she said "I have no clue what is wrong with your dog". She gave me pain killers and gabapentin. I had to take my dog home when she was clearly sick. When I got home I decided to google the symptoms and came up with vestibular disease. I called the vet back to inquire about this and they said that that diagnosis was included in "other". I then asked why they gave me the wrong medication and she said nothing. I called another vet the next day and he told me it could be vestibular disease just by knowing the symptoms. I called Barton Heights back and asked to speak to someone higher up than the vet I saw. Dr. Wentz returned my call and was unknowledgeable and rude. I explained to him everything that transpired and he said that my dog did not have vestibular disease because it does not cause twitching or falling over. When you do a simple google search, this is exactly what it causes. All the stress from getting the wrong diagnosis and medication, caused my fiance to go into preterm labor at 34 weeks. The only thing I asked Dr. Wentz for was a refund of at least the exam fee and medication since they gave us no diagnosis and the wrong medication. He was rude and abrupt and said he would do nothing for me. I do not feel that paying $592 for no diagnosis and getting the wrong medication is right.

I could write a long article on all the reasons you should bring your pets here but I am going to keep it short and sweet. If you love your Dog or Cat and live in the Poconos, Barton Heights Animal Hospital is the best by far. Your pets

I wish I could give Barton Height negative stars! After being clients for over 5 years we brought our sick kitten in on Sunday for an emergency visit and cannot believe the horrid, uncompassionate way we were treated! Dr.Franklin was rude, inconsiderate and went even so far as to lie to my husband. My baby needed surgery to save his life. They quoted us $3900 and refused to do the surgery without payment upfront. I don't know about you, but I do not have easy access to nearly $4000 on a Sunday night and my baby ended up losing his life! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE! They do not care about the animals, only extorting you for every dime you have!

The staff at Barton Heights love animals (and people!) and are a joy to deal with. The docs and techs are terrific, smart, responsive and caring. I've been going there for 15 years- wouldn't change my vet for anything!

I have been going to Barton Heights Veterinary Hospital for over 20 years. The staff and doctors are always friendly and very helpful. They truly do care about your pets and also their owners. I would not trust my pets with anyone else.

Barton Heights is a pleasure to visit with my pets. Everyone stops and says hello to them. My waiting time is minimal. My dog has had a couple of surgeries there and they go there for their annual visits and their vaccines. Barton Heights does bloodwork before they anesthetize your pet to make sure the animal is healthy enough to go under anesthesia. From what I understand, not every veterinary practice does that. I will gladly pay a little more for this assurance. The place is clean and attractive with lots of room in the lobby so your pets don't have to be on top of each other. They offer you coffee and cold bottled water. Everyone is pleasant and they don't overbook. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else.

This place is terrible. After my experience with Barton Heights, I would never trust them with a beloved pet. They are completely overpriced, cold and unfeeling, and the doctor that I dealt with is incompetent and misdiagnosed my cat twice

We recently moved to PA with our Saint Bernard Harley. His last yearly check up was not long ago. He has been going to the vet since we got him at 9 weeks old. He's now almost 10 years old, and on Previcox for arthritis pain. He'll shortly be getting Adequan shots instead. His meds were low so I called a few different animal hospitals to see if I could get his meds refilled. All the hospitals I called said all I needed was a prescription faxed to them from his vet, and they would fill it, but when I told them it was Previcox, no one carried that particular brand. Then a friend suggested I try Barton Heights. I did, and was so happy when the woman who answered told me they did indeed carry Previcox! I was told the only way to get the previcox was to arrange an office visit with proper tests to get the meds. I explained he already had the tests (liver/kidney) when they gave him the meds a few months ago. I Explained his shots, heartworm etc were all up to date. I offered to have his records faxed along with the prescription of course. She said no. I see no reason to spend a few hundred dollars "again" to have Barton Heights do what he already had done less then 3 months ago! In my opinion this hospital is about the money not the animals.

Barton Heights is a really good bet if you're not sure where to take your pet. We were very happy to find this place after some negative experiences at another place in the area. We've been taking our domestic animals there for nearly 10 years, and we've had positive experiences. The reason why they are so much better than any other vet we've been to in the area is because the animals get near human-quality treatment with up to date equipment and procedures. Many other vets simply cannot furnish these types of services because of the cost of the equipment, etc.The techs are helpful and competent. The facility is clean (especially "in the back" where they treat the animals). They have on-site pharmacy as well as food. They're also open 7 days a week. Dr. Ott in particular is our guy. He's always been able to help our pets and his bedside manner is excellent. He listens well and has an encyclopedic knowledge of his practice.
On the downside, you will pay a little more than some places, but in the end it is worth it We made the mistake of cheaping out in the past, and it cost us dearly. We'll never make that mistake again.
All in all, if you aren't sure where to go and you're concerned with issure like competence, hygene and availibility of the best possible equipment, BH is the best you're going to get in this area.

Need an Excellent Vet? Check out Barton Heights. I have been going there for years and have been very happy so far. They care about my pets and are very patient with them. We had to put our dog to sleep a couple weeks ago and they were very compassionateand patient with us. We had our beloved pet back within 2 weeks where she belonged.

My dog had a very serious tumor in his neck which wrapped around his jugular vein. The doctors at Barton Heights were wonderful and were able to save my dog by removing the tumor. I felt they did a fantastic job and were very caring and supportive during a difficult time for me and my husband.

We bring both of our dogs to Barton Heights and while the fees they charge are considerably higher than most vets in the area, I feel that the expertise care they provide is worth the extra cost, especially if you have an animal that needs more than just a check up.

I would highly recommend them to anyone and would especially suggest them if you are looking for a second opinion as I feel their doctors have very strong diagnostic skills.

It is a shame that their prices are sooo high. Great Doc's, Great Techs. But you can not walk out of there without feeling BROKE. I Brought my dog in to have a growth checked out.$250 later I find out that it will go away on it's own. And this was not his annual Exam!

A new large practice off Route 611, this place has all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, their prices are such that I can't justify going there when there are other alternatives with the same toys -- not as impressive physical plant but for the price difference, it's fine.

Been there twice, and although the services were fine, and vets knowledgeable, the prices were on-par with Northen NJ and NYC rather than the Poconos. Too bad really, it's an impressive practice, where I usually spend $3-$4K a year at my usual practice, this place would easily be double that.
