This former bank has many original details and is charming as a restaurant. The seafood and pasta dishes are consistently fresh and good. Sunday brunch is a great time to dine here with family and friends. It's often very crowded - sometimes they don't estimate correctly and you might have to wait longer than they anticipated for your table to be ready. Without much of a waiting area, this can be a drag.

This is an okay place to eat but for the price one pays, I would expect the portions to be a little bigger or at least the food should be hot when it arrives. Plenty of room both downstairs and upstairs.

Pros: Lots of dining space to seat plenty of people, place is well kept.

Cons: Food needs to be warmer, more/bigger portions for the price.

The Brownstone Cafe is housed in a former bank that has been at the heart of Middletown for at least one hundred years (not sure the exact year it was built) At the center of the restaurant, an old safe still remains. If you are into local history, this is a place you don't want to miss! In addition to its background, the Brownstone also has delicious foods at an affordable price. My personal favorites are their clam strip platter and their salads with hot bacon dressing. The Brownstone is locally owned by a family that has always been deeply involved in the community.
