Went to Branaino's for lunch during Philly Restaurant week. All te appetisera were very good. We had the eggplant rolatini, the broccoli rabe with sausage and the buffalo mozzarella. For the entrees, we had the bowtie pasta with shrimp and crabmeat (Excellent) and the veal and chicken ravioli (also quite good.) The nice feature was that Branzino's allowed you to order from their entire menu, unlike many other Philly Restaurant Week participants that offer a very limited menu. Will definitely return to try their dinner menu

I went to Branzino Saturday night with a group of 8, we had a 9:30 reservation. We were seated within minutes of arriving with no problems. I had the mussles to start, and they were amazing! The sauce they were in was sooo good. For dinner I had the Bass- again, delicious!!

The service and the food were both great! The only real drawback was that you can only split the bill up on 2 cards, which is normally not an issue, but we were a large group, and had not all planned on paying cash. It would have been nice to know that before we got there!

Anyway, overall a great experience, and I will certainly be back!

Cons: There's only 1 bathroom

My girlfriend and I dined here on Valentine's day (a very busy night for restaurants, one of the nights that often lead to poor service and cold food) . We were seated immediately and when I requested another table (because we felt that we were in the middle of too much activity ie. near the door and aisle where the waitstaff busied themselves with food and orders), we were graciously shown to another, and much more favorably located, table. We shared a delicious appetizer featuring calamari and delighted in two wonderful entrees, mine with rabbit (believe it or not), and my date's with salmon. We shared a bottle of wine that we brought, and topped the meal off with coffee and espresso. The waiter was very professional and helpful, the service excellent (no sense of urgency because of the busy night), the ambience intimate and romantic. I have read some of the negative reviews on this list and I am perplexed, were they in the same restaurant or did they come "with attitude"? Finally, I felt the prices certainly were in line with what I would expect of a restaurant of this calibre.

Service was awful. I am not sure where they are from, but apparently where ever it is they don't know how to be nice or accommodate their guests. This was the absolute worst dinning experience of my life and I am pretty easy to please. Since I work in a restaurant myself I very often understand the challenges. The service was horrible and was accompanied by an attitude of "oh well, screw you." I can't ever in my wild dreams imagine treating people the way that my friends and I were treated when we ate there. I wouldn't ever go back. I rather eat a raw hamburger off of the floor at McDonald's, than eat the disgusting food they served there. Don't say I didn't warn you!

We never even sat down to eat. We were at the restaurant on time for our 8 PM reservation. The hostess told us that the table was not ready yet and it would take about 15 minutes (there is no where to stand in the restaurant while waiting and it was freezing outside). The reservation was made for 5 originally, but one more wanted to come, so I asked if they could squeeze one more at the table. I looked at the table and it would barely hold 4, let alone the 5 that I made a reservation for. The hostess was so rude and said that is impossible could not do it. She would not even ask the manager or see what she could do. At least tell us a time where you could accomodate our party that night. I asked her if she could try to find us a table since we were on time for our reservation, but the people at the table had not even received their check. She said it was only a little after 8 and said it was not her problem that the table was not ready. She was not apologetic and did not even try to accomodate us. We walked out and went to an even better and more fun BYOB. The hostess ruined our experience there before we could even try the food and I will never try to go back there.

Ive seen some negative reviews for this restaurant, but my experience was fairly pleasent. We were a bit early for our reservation but we were seated immediately. The server came over fairly promptly to let us know that they were short staffed that evening and appreciated our patience. Our server that evening was very helpful and we didnt have to wait all that long for anything. The osso bucco was very tasty and plentiful and my girlfriends ravioli was also very tasty. The riccota cheesecake wasnt all that good, but the meal as a whole was nice. The menu has a fairly good selection of meats and fishes. The only negative is for a BYO the prices seemed a bit on the high side. I would recommend.

Cons: Pricey for a BYO

Ordered the endive and walnut salad... It came with 1 walnut. The squash ravioli at 19 bucks was undercooked and underseasoned. It was homemade, but it should be. the veal scallopine came with 3 tiny pieces of veal that were smothered with white onions. No originality and just a ripoff. The hazelnut gelato was really good, and the service was decent.

Tried this place on a Saturday night for the first time with great expectations....very DISAPPOINTED. We enjoyed the appetizer dishes of mussels in a garlic tomato sauce and bluefin tuna and goat cheese pasta; however, there was a 45 minute delay between finishing the appetizers and our main dishes being served. We got the branzino and a fish special. Not worth the wait. My dish was literally dripping in butter, despite the grilled fish description...disgusting. The branzino was acceptable, but not worth the 27$ price tag. Came with a side dish of soggy vegetables drenched in butter. When we politely asked about the food delay, the server committed what I think is an unacceptable error...saying that a bunch of orders came in at once. Never, ever blame the customer for your delays! Definitely avoid. 84$ for this BYOB was money poorly spent, in my opinion. With all the excellent byobs in the city, this one is definitely one to skip.

Branzino is my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. It is rare to be able to eat several courses and have each and every one be perfect. It is also rare in downtown Philadelphia to be able to use a credit card at a B&B.
There is no corkage fee. I highly recommend reservations.

I have been eating out every night in downtown Philadelphia since last August. When people ask for my top recommendation I do not have to hesitate with the name 'Branzino'. Everyone has reaffirmed my choice.

Apparently the idea that the customer is always right does not apply to this restaurant. My friend had made reservations for 7:30 on a Friday night, and when we got to the restaurant they said that they had us down for 5:30. My friend even showed them her confirmation e-mail saying that the reservations were for 7:30. Instead of being apologetic and offering us the next available table, the host staff was extremely rude and said that it was our problem, not theirs. Despite the fact that there were MANY empty tables, they showed no signs of wanting to seat us, so we were forced to leave despite the fact that we had made reservations. This is the second time that Branzino has had trouble accommodating reservations. I had been there once before and they had set up our table for the wrong number of people; we ended up waiting another 20 minutes before they had a table ready for us. Once we were finally seated, the food was forgettable at best. If you're looking for a good Italian BYOB, skip this place and go across the street to Fontana della Citta. Unlike Branzino, they are very accommodating (and their risotto is delicious).

This is a lovely little place. All of my meals there have been very good. I especially like the gnocchi. It is very heavy but very delicious. Occasionally they have been out of things that I wanted but there is always something else to chose from.

I made reservations this past Friday night. I called and confirmed the reservations also reiterate that it was my boyfriend's bday and I would like a candle in his dessert. I was reassured that it would not be a problem. We got there for our 8pm reservation, they couldn't find my name and when she did we were told our table was not ready and to return in 20 minutes. We were had to go to the bar down the street- due to the lack of room inside. (Mind you it was not a warm and fuzzy night for a walk) We came back still hoping that the rest of the evening would run more smoothly, then our grand arrival. After we were seated, the busboy came over and gave up water and corked our bottle, however I had to flag down the hostess to get us menus. Our waiter came over, he was very cordial and knowledgeable about the menu. The filet mignon carpaccio was my favorite- I highly recommend it! He had the caesar salad and was quite happy with it, we then split a veal and chicken raviolis, again our taste buds were pleased. He then got the steak and I got the Osso Buco. He said his steak was good, unfortunately my entree was very salty and as a huge fan of dish- there was no bone marrow to speak off- which is the best part of the whole dish!! Finally, dessert came, no candle. I was actually really upset considering the party across the way had a five alarm fire on their dessert!! I decided at the end of the meal that I was going to ask to speak with the manager about our experience. As the check came- a waiter, that had been their 2 weeks came dashing over apologized with a piece of cheesecake and candle on the house. He said he had caught some of my glances and went to the hostess to see if their were any special request on my reservation and she stated that in fact I had requested a candle. I am grateful that they did put an effort to rectify their mistake, but my relaxing romantic dinner fell short of that. Overall, I'd try it again, maybe it was an off night, hopefully.

Branzino is one of those neighborhood restaurants you just keep going back to because it is consistent, pleasant and perfect for a low-key dinner. Although the food is very good and always well prepared the service is very unpolished. We walked in last Saturday night to be greeted by a brusque hostess who wanted to know when our reservation was. It turned we mistakenly made a reservation for the following night, but her insistence that we did not have a reservation was heard by all guests in the room as the space is quite small and she was talking to us from the back of the room. After 5 minutes of arguing we were finally seated and from then on the evening was pleasant. It is a very casual place with a varied menu and the grilled whole fish is perfect.

The branzino was OK, I've had better. Ditto for the mussels appetizer. The desserts (chocolate mousse cake and tiramisu) were light and tasty, not too rich. The gnocchi dish was awesome. Service was fine. We enjoyed sidewalk dining, with a full menu during a busy Restaurant Week. Would definitely return to this BYOB, given the reasonably-priced menu.

We experienced no problems during a time when some might be expected, so I'm confused by the negative comments regarding poor and rushed service. We even lingered to finish our wine after dessert. Maybe it was the actions of a single server who no longer works there.

Here's a restaurant that has everything. Good food. Nice staff with a serious attention to service but not overwhelming and very good value. I went with a friend on a Tues night for the first time and returned the following week with 3 more friends. The bill was VERY reasonable. About $30 per person... splitting appetizers between 2. The pasta is spectacular. I had an appetizer of 5 raviolis, every bite of which was a treat.)
The main courses... everything I tried was a good, simple, solid recipe. Lots of choices on the menu... and they seem to always offer specials of the day. Don't forget the wine. The state store is 5 blocks away!

I went to Branzino with a party of 6 on Mother's Day. Despite other reviews out there, our service was excellent (maybe b/c it was a holiday). The food was delicious - I highly recommend the Avocado and Octopus appetizer - one of my favorite appetizers in the city thus far. Definitely more upscale in regards to ambiance (as compared to other BYOs). Good food and great location.

This is one of the few times I felt compelled to write a review. Amazingly, I read the other reviews for this restaurant and many echoed our experience. We were a party of six and were also rushed and also asked to leave for a following reservation. After only being their an hour, I hardly felt our table was loitering. Prior to ordering dessert, the waiter informed us we had twenty minutes to order and complete dessert/coffee. We skipped the remaining course after such rude behavior. The food was overall average. The cost was approx. $40 pp (without coffee and dessert). The nail in the coffin is by far the service.

With so many other fantastic restaurants downtown & wonderful BYOBs, I'd definitely skip this establishment.

I set out to have an enjoyable evening with my 5 of my friends at Branzino's. Unfortunately, the service was of the poorest quality I have ever experienced. We had a reservation for 8:30pm on Friday. I was called on my cell phone at work the day before by the manager. He was pleading for us to push back our reservation to 9:00, "or even 8:45 would really help us." Having worked in several restaurants, I assumed they were in a critical predicament. We agreed to move our reservations to 8:45. We sat down at 8:45, and were rushed the entire meal. At 10:15 the manager told us he had a reservation for the table at 9:30, and that the party had been waiting. As we finished our wine at 10:30, he came back to our table and told us not to worry, "the party has been sat somewhere else." I have never had this experience before, both as a customer and as a server. I would not recommend Branzino's to anyone.

As we finished our wine at 10:30, he came back to our table and told us not to worry, "the party has been sat somewhere else." I have never had this experience before, both as a customer and as a server. I would not recommend Branzino's to anyone.

Pros: None

Cons: Service

I ate at Branzino?s with my father last summer and had an absolutely wonderful experience. Despite our outside seating and the fact that the restaurant had several full tables, our service was extremely prompt, professional, and our server seemed to not want us to leave. The food was utterly superb. I had a tender lamb dish with aged balsamic vinegar drizzled on top, which I still dream of to this day and my father had an excellent seafood pasta dish. Branzino?s is definitely not appropriate for a large group and is better suited for couples or groups no bigger then four. My experience however, was fantastic from the service, to the food, to the romantic decor and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for deliciously sophisticated Italian cuisine and a wonderfully pleasant environment.

The two recent bad reviews on service had me concerned, but I decided to give Branzino a try anyway and it was a real success. Start with the setting--the decor is a little more upscale than many BYOs and the tables are not crammed together. We went pre-orchestra at 6:00 and the meal was perfectly paced. The wine service was better than most restaurants that are charging you a 200% markup, and of course Branzino wasn't making a penny on the wine. This was consistent with the attentive service throughout the meal.

The specials sounded good, but we stayed with the printed menu. Watercress salad with carmelized pears and prosciutto and a lentil and beet salad both were excellent. The whole branzino fish (I think it was the most expensive item on the menu at $24), expertly filleted at tableside, was excellent. The ravioli filled with squash and cheese was very good. We shared a slice of triple chocolate mousse cake that was not as intense as the name led me to believe, but nonetheless was very good.

There were other items on the extensive menu that also looked good. We'll be back to try some of them.

A friend and I came to Bronzino during Restaurant Week. From the moment we entered, we were escorted to a beautiful table and the wait staff couldn't have been more attentive. The Buffalo mozzerella and spinach/walnut salad appetizers were a great start to a superb meal. The chef prepared a special course: potato gnocci that was to die for! The highlight was the entree which was filleted bronzino. Dessert reminded me of small frozen Dove bars. But it was more involved than that. Garnished with these giant red raspberries, it was drizzled with a raspberry sauce. What an excellent experience during what was, I'm sure, a busy and hectic week for Philly restaurants. We will most definetly be back.

My husband and I came to Philadelphia for the weekend from Washington D.C. This restaurant was recommended by the hotel we were staying at. The service was sub-par from the moment we entered the restaurant. The first course was served without silverware. There were no bread plates nor napkins. The waiter was not concerned and seemed to be bothered when we finally got his attention. The final insult came after we paid our bill which was given to us before we were given the coffee we had ordered. We had one small cup of coffee and this rude, ignorant waiter leaned over my shoulder and said in a threatening manner, THAT WE HAD TO LEAVE BECAUSE ANOTHER COUPLE WAS WAITING FOR OUR TABLE. Our dinner came to 145.00 with a tip. We were there for exactly one hour. I have never encountered such rude treatment. By the way...the food was nothing to write home about either.

My family usually enjoys the personal treatment and extra focus on food at the city BYOs, so for my brother's graduation from Temple's MBA program, his girlfriend chose Branzino to celebrate. She reserved a table for 12 at 6:15 on a Friday evening. The food met our expectations and then some, with excellent pasta dishes, fabulous seafood, and mouth watering lamb.
However, from the onset it was clear that the waiter who claimed to be the manager for the evening was none too pleased with our somewhat festive group. Before everyone had arrived he was itching to review the specials and when I asked him at the end what the vegetable was, he stated in a curt tone, "As I have already mentioned..." They forgot to bring one of the appetizers, which would certainly have bee forgivable if it was the only service blunder. Throughout the meal he leaned on my brother (the guest of honor and a somehwat broad sholdered man) pushing him left and right to serve the meal, and the last straw was when, shortly after he dropped the check, he actually told us we had to leave, that he needed the table. We had been there for just over 3 hours (which doesn't seem long for dinner for 12) and most of the delay was spent with us waiting for our main course. It seemed awfully rude to a large party that pulled out all the stops - most of us had an appetizer, main entree and dessert with several cappucinos and coffees. Needless to say it put a bit of a damper on an otherwise a joyous evening. I don't understand why a small BYO would accept a large reservation when it is such an inconvenience to them and they make no effort to hide it.

My husband and I went with another couple last Saturday night at 9:30. The place was packed, but the hostess tried very hard to seat us quickly, even though we did not have reservations. We ate in the back room, which is lovely. One of our party ordered the "Bronzino" special, which was a fish that was cooked, and then fileted as a presentation to the table. It was incredible. All of our food was excellent. It was a BYOB, and we left for a little over $100 for 4 people who had salad and entree. The service was also great - very personable and helpful. We'll definitely go back!

Everyone at our table of 10 enjoyed their dinner at this crowded BYO. Unlike a previous visit, they now serve most of the pasta dishes in appetizer portions, which is a great plus. The tuna tartar was excellent. The gnocchi entree was the best we've had since Vetri. Both veal dishes were very good as was the signature Branzino served with a lemon/caper sauce. With, in most cases in our party, a shared appetizer and dessert, the bill came to around $80 per couple with tip. (They now take credit cards.) A place well worth checking out.

Lovely BYOB spot with a very gracious host (the waiter a little less so, but he was adequet) and a lovely Carpaccio. The only draw-back - They were all out of branzino! My husband and I both wanted to order it, but he enjoyed his veal chop I had a shrimp and scallop dish which was good, albeit a tad dry. A drizzle of olive oil and lemon would have done the trick. The zabaglione we shared for dessert was fabulous. Why is the restaurant spelled Bronzino w/ an 'o', when the fish is branzino w/ an 'a'?

Branzino is another BYOB Italian restaurant---but it has the attraction of specializing in the namesake fish, a Mediterranean sea bass. The chef's rendition is grilled whole, dressed simply with olive oil, lemon, fresh herbs and capers and…
