We have taken this tour a few times. It is fun to bring out of towners on this tour so they can learn more about the coal mining history of this area. They take you below ground in a tram and the tour guide explains a lot about the history of the mining and the life of the coal miners. It is a little over $10 per person, and worth the price to experience it once. I don't recommend this for the claustrophobic since the tram is a little tight and the quarters are dimly lit below ground. There is a fun gift shop and picnic area on the premises.

We enjoyed visiting the coal mine. You get to ride into the mine in an old coal mine cart. Then you are taken on a walking tour of the mine. The tour guide explains how the mine used to work when it was operational. It's a great way to spend a hot afternoon--the mine is a cool 40 degrees and to learn a little history of how life was in northeastern PA.

I have been on this tour a couple of times and find it very enjoyable. They take you hundreds of feet below ground and give you a glimpse of excactly what it was like to be a coal miner in an actual mine shaft. The trip underground is made in a box car and can feel a little cramped. The tour is very educational and worth the time. It costs around $10 a person and lasts about a half hour. They have a neat museum shop with anthracite jeweltry and souveniers. There is also a nice picnic area nearby to stop and have lunch.

We recently took this tour and it was totally fascinating!! You go 300 feet into the coal mine in ana ctuall coal mine car like the coal miners used, YOu waled the rest of the way thru the coal mines learining all about the ways coal miners used to mine anthracite coal. Cost 7.00 a person to go but really worth it. Takes about an hour

PROS: vERY KNOWLEDGABLE TOUR GUIDES.
CONS: A little scary for children and walking is difficult due to RAIL ROAD TRAX
