This is what people wait in line for? Totally disappointing. The service was beyone horrible. Server didn't stop back to the table once after taking the order except to drop off the check. (someone else brought food) Never got a water or coffee refill. Food was OK, nothing special. (Oh and she got the order wrong too, but it wasn't worth waiting for it to be fixed.) Ventilation inside is kinda poor. I ordered a side of turkey sausage for $3.50 and got one small patti on a plate. Don't see what any of the hype is about.

"Is it just black people, or do you hate all minorities?" was the question that kept running through my mind as we observed the lack of service being provided to us. Didn't wanna make it a racial thing, but I seemed to have made an unspoken connection with another brotha feeling my pain a few tables down. Having given Morning Glory the benefit of the doubt a few times before, my girlfriend and I still didn't expect over a half an hour to go by before we had to flag down the waiter to take our order. We got one coffee refill and no food for over an hour and fifteen minutes. We watched as people who were arriving after us were getting served before us. We felt invisible even though we were seated right next to the central kitchen. We could only watch as numerous staff passed us by time and time again without saying a word or even looking in our direction. So we were not suprised that no apologies were offered for our extreme wait time. We are never going back!

Just came back from lunch at the Morning Glory. I advise that you stick to breakfast at this cafe.

I ordered the BLT and expected, for the price, a whopping BLT. Not only was it skimpy on the bacon but the tomato was horrible. Pink/white flesh with a hard center and absolutely no taste. I would think that in this location in the summer that the Morning Glory could find better tomatoes. When I mentioned this to the waitperson while paying the bill, he defended the tomato by picking up one very sickly almost white looking slice, pouring salt on it and taking a bite to prove to me that it was to his liking. Humph...

I also think they should add good french fries in place of the warmed over, left over from breakfast, hash browns. They are just too heavy to eat at lunch.

The staff is rather curt and the constant sorting of silverware made for quite a clatter throughout the whole 45 or so mins I was there.

For a good lunch that is worth the $$ try Honey's Sit and Eat!

We arrived to Morning Glory hoping it would be everything we've heard. Unfortunately we waited for over an hour in the rain only to be bumped down the list like 5 times (as a party of four we watched 4 other parties - who arrived after us - get seated)! Finally when I told the host we could take the seats at the counter he said "ok", literally herded us out of the place and proceeded to call 3 other parties inside ahead of us. I was ready to leave at that moment, but we had already invested an hour and were on a tight schedule. When we were finally called we followed the host inside, who pointed at a booth and kept walking. No menus, no drink orders (which he provided to other people). The waitress was good, the food wasn't bad (crushed up tortilla chips do not equal a corn tortilla), and the table was NASTY. I especially loved the vat of jam sitting on the table for god knows how long, with a spoon in it that's been god knows where. At first I thought it was BBQ sauce! My advice is, if you don't mind waiting an hour-and-a-half for mediocre food and subpar service - go for it. Just beware of the host with no people skills. I know your job is stressful buddy, but get your sh*t together.

Pros: the home fries were good

Cons: the host was a total d*ck

The food was okay. I appreciate the fact that almost everything is homemade but it doesn't fit the taste buds of everyone. This made it more bland tasting but that's my opinion. Its worth the experience but I wouldn't go back.

Simplicity is always best for breakfast but the first thing that turned me off was the service. One word: RUDE! I was a roadtrip and I mapped out places of interest and I found this so-called gem but it turned out to be nothing special. The fritatta includes potatoes in it and on the side which was overkill and they were bland. The fritatta tasted good and the simple breakfast sandwich my girlfriend ate was made wrong, meaning they messed up the order. You wait an hour outside and you go in and you constantly have to ask for coffee, water, napkins and no one asks you if you need anything. One employee had a shirt on stating be nice or leave, I think they all need a course in Customer Service because their service soured my stay. The menu is not appetizing either and the pancakes were atrocious because they were half done and tasted like CARDBOARD. I am never this mean in a review but honestly, I cannot recommend this place due to the service and the bad food.

Though seating is limited, and weekend customers exceed spacial limitations, this place has innovative, home-made tasting food, and a social atmosphere you feel easy taking part in. Try it out!

After reading the few scathing reviews on the web, I had to wonder if I was thinking of the same place. We have been to Morning Glory several times, and the food has always been stellar. Those who complain of poor service, what were you expecting, a four-star dining experience?
The food is well above par, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and taste, and the ambiance is enjoyable. If you go during the busy periods (we've only been on weekend mornings), be prepared to wait in the little courtyard. Yes, that means if it's raining, you'll be out in it while you wait, plan accordingly.
The experience and food at Morning Glory are well worth the slightly cramped interior and wait time- I am absolutely positive you won't regret it.

I love it! This cute restaurant is one of my favorites. They have the best pancakes and biscuits ever!!! My husband and I love their breakfasts. They even make their own ketchup and jams.

Good coffee though.
For starters we've waited for the menus for about 10 minutes, after we got them it took about 10-15 minutes to order and about 15 minutes for the order to come. People at next to ours table ordered even before we came and got their food at the same time that we did, so I assume that we got lucky. We ordered fritatats - no salt was present in the food, potatoes had a killer amount of very strong dry herbs on them and it made fritatas even more tasteless. Besides my fritata was dry and overcooked. Pancakes where overcooked on one side and very pale on the another. Actually they was supposed to be a plum pancakes, and I was thinking that they will be served with the plum compote on them or something like that, but they where just pancakes with the side of pretty tasty whipped cream with no hint of plums at all. I forgot to mention that our forks and knifes had traces of someone else's breakfast on them.
I wish I didn't ignore all the negative reviews and went for our very first in Philadelphia breakfast somewhere else.

morning glory is freakin AMAZING and for those of you (reviews written below) who critize it and call it BLAH, that just makes you pretentious and spoiled. clearly anyone with any kind of culinary interest/respect would find this place near genius in thier creativity and overall taste of all of thier dishes. ive recommened this place to friends whom now sware they will never eat anyone elses pancakes ever again!!! im sorry, im just a firm believer in giving credit where credit is due, so those of you who choose to critize, take yourselves back to Mc Donalds and have a nice day. : ) the food is excellent here and the service is equally great. enjoy!

A big bowl O' wrong. Probably one of the worst dining experiences ever, and this was on a WEEKDAY morning too. Maybe its just me but for such a #1 rated restaurant you'd think the breakfast would be served hot considering they cook it 3 ft away from you and are sweating all over themselves; and therefore the hash browns would be crispy, pork bacon wouldn't be undercooked, over easy eggs would have firm egg whites rather than a runny gelatinous coating on them. And you'd think that as a PAYING CUSTOMER when any of your food is either cold, runny, soggy or ALL of the above and you ask for it to be fixed they would not cop a f*ing attitude and tell you "Well you ordered it wrong." How on earth can you take pride in yourself as a chef of a #1 restaurant AND STILL f*ck up eggs, bacon and hash browns, you specialize in breakfast for christsakes! As for the attitude well what do you expect from a bunch of holier than thou middleaged scenesters...anybody there who wasn't battling a hangover could tell you the truth...it JUST SUCKED!

Unless you have the privilege to be seated under a fan, which i did not, this restaurant is very hot! The food was OK, definitely not horrible but notthing to rave about. The service was fine but I was left unsatisfied and let down by the lack of flavor and creativity of their dishes. However, I have no big complaints about morning glory but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

I have waited outside over an hour in the cold, pregnant, with my three children under age 5, for breakfast at the Morning Glory. It's cash-only, the frittatas take forever, and most of the staff are hip and surly, but it is the tastiest breakfast you'll find in Philadelphia.

This place was great- the wait is long, but sooo worth it! My party of three brought 2 bottles of champagne on a Saturday at about noon, and we had the best time ever sitting at the counter. We ordered frittatas and the breakfast pizza, and we were very impressed. Large portions, small price, homemade REAL hot chocolate, orange juice to mix mimosas- it was great!! I want to go back immediately.

Do yourself a favor and GO! If you've already been, go again. Without a doubt the best breakfast in Philly. Everything is fresh, well prepared and homemade. Their homemade ketchup is awesome and their frittatas are great, especially the smoked salmon, asparagus and goat cheese one, and their coffee is wonderful. Portions are huge...make sure you get the biscuit rather than toast (they're homemade and delightful). Completely casual and unpretentious with friendly service everytime. I've only ever been able to go on the weekends and there's always a wait (sometimes up to an hour), but definitely wait....it's so worth it. You can always put your name on the list and spend some time walking around. Also very reasonably priced (pretty much nothing over $10) for such good food.

I love the brunch here. The food is delicious. Cute diner stylings, but really delicious special food. About $10 a person and cash. There is typically a 20 minute wait, but if you are willing to do the counter, it can be faster. There is a waiting area where you can sit and chat with your brunch companions. MORNING GLORY - if you read this, allow people to order coffee while they wait - you'll never have a complaint about the wait again! All and all, great place for hipsters, your parents, etc.

Yes, if you don't want to wait on a Sunday morning for brunch, don't go to Morning Glory - don't go anywhere else either because in this city, a good brunch without a wait is unlikely - at least Morning Glory has seating outside! They have fans in the summer and heaters in the winter just to make it more comfortable, and for the guy complaining about no coffee - they do in fact have free coffee available inside - you just have to get it yourself, and yes, sometimes, especially later in the morning/early afternoon it is gone, but if you are NICE to them, I'm sure they wouldn't mind refilling the coffee urn or providing a cup of coffee for you. And if you hate the wait, do what I do, bring some friends, or even just a Sunday paper!

I have loved Morning Glory since I was first introduced to it and regularly introduce new people to it and sometimes even go by myself! The chocolate chip pancakes are to die for, and even their scrambled eggs, potatoes and biscuits are amazing! The staff is wonderful as long as you a polite and friendly and respect the fact that they are a busy and popular restuarant. The food is cheap and it is essentially a diner - don't expect someone to wait on you hand and foot - plus everyone is waiting! If you don't want to wait, leave, they have plenty of customers and for good reason. I hate nothing more than sitting in there and listening to some person loudly complain about the wait or the service - I have always been more than happy with the service, the staff, the atmosphere and the food, and in turn they always treat me with respect as well. If you don't want a casual, cheap, delicious brunch, you can't afford to pay for a $10 meal in cash, and you can't stand to wait, do everyone a favor and just don't go.

We waited for a long time for a table for 5 on a Sunday morning, I can understand a long wait but maybe they should offer some coffee. When they sat us they put two tables together and tried to squeeze us in. I asked that they slide another table together so that we could be comfortable but the busboy said no. We insisted and he slammed the tables together and stormed off. When the waitress came by she wanted our drink order but became visibly iritated when I said that we were ready to order (we studied the menu while we were waiting). I'm sure she didn't want to slam the kitchen but you would think that since it was obvious that we didn't like them and they didn't like us they would be more than happy to get us out of there asap!
The food was fine, not worth the wait, you can't even get a bloody mary!!

Friends have been telling me about Morning Glory for some time now and I've been there a couple of times now. It's great. I love spending the better part of my mornings and afternoons there. The specials are amazing, the menu stands the test of time. The home made ketchup is delicious...I wish it was for sale. I also wish that MG would utilize it's outdoor area for seating not just waiting.

I highly recommend Morning Glory for breakfast, but be prepared to wait. The carrot cake pancakes from the specials menu were soooo good! I was nervous that the cream cheese icing to top the pancakes with was going to be too sweet, but it was perfection in every way. My boyfriend got the eggs benedict, which was slightly better than average (the eggs were done really well). The table next to us got the breakfast pizza which looked really good. Definitely bring a hefty appetite, the portions are huge!

Got here for Saturday Brunch around 2:30pm and sat right down to the most delicious muffin of the day--cherry-orange. The Chicken Waldorf Salad was terrific. And so was the grilled cheese, potatoes, and sausage. I personally didn't care for the homemade ketchup, but the place made up for it with the hipster vibe originating from the wait staff and the Smiths on the sound system.

I wasn't that impressed with this restaurant. We did expect a long wait and we got one. Most of the food was good, but not great. The pancakes (choco. chip) were out of this world. However, I don't know that I would go back again just for pancakes.

Pros: pancakes, big portion

Excellent eggs benedict with fresh, homemade hollandaise sauce. The gargantuan french toast seems to be the most popular dish though. Very casual and relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. The restaurant itself is very small so the wait to be seated is long. An outdoor patio makes the wait pleasant when the weather is good. No esperesso maker on the premises for those who need that extra jolt and no subsitutions -- even if you are allergic to something standard in their omelette.

Sam's Morning Glory Diner has many homemade, great tasting items on the menu that you can't go wrong. The best bets include the challah french toast with bananas drizzled with honey and served with maple syrup and a large puff of whipped cream on the side. Equally as good are the made from scratch pancakes with silky, dense, sweet-tasting batter. The frittata's are very popular here, but they would not be our first choice, as they seemed dry. Make sure to add some great sides including the sage sausage patties (don't forget the homemade ketchup!), good but slightly dry biscuits, and perfectly cooked bacon. The servers are hip and enthusiastic, and eager to make sure you're happy. Make sure to get there early because they do have a sign-in sheet at the door for crowded times, likely when the outdoor patio is open. The only drawback is that they only prepare food one order at a time, thus adding to the wait.

I was very underwhelmed the one time I ate here. After a very long (30 minute) or so wait with a hostess who couldn't keep names straight, we were rushed to sit at the counter even though a table was wide open. It took forever to get coffee and the item that looked the tastiest on the brunch menu was only available without one of the key fruit ingredients! Service was slow and it took a long time to get our food. Yes it was a lot to eat and yes it was reasonably priced, but I'm in no hurry to go back, especially not if I need to make an out-of-the-way trek to get there.

Pros: hearty portions

Cons: , long wait, loud and noisy

I love this place. I always come here starving and leave feeling stuffed. The frittatas alone will fill you up, but then add the standard home fries and coffee cake-like "biscuits" and you're set for the rest of the day. I enjoyed the pancakes, the breakfast pizza, and the granola on other occasions. And nowhere else have I had such amazing homemade ketchup. That alone makes the wait worthwhile.

Pros: Ketchup, Frittatas, Serving Size

Small and qaint little corner diner. The food is definately worth the wait. However, if you have hungry little ones then they may get impatient. My wife had challah french toast (excellent) and our 4 & 2 year old kids had the chocolate chip pancakes (2 thumbs up). I had eggs, suasage, potatoes (routine yet delicious). This is a great start to a day that includes touring the center city museums!

Pros: Food quality, Value, Spotless bathrooms

With one of the smallest kitchens dishing out tasty food right in front of you, it's no wonder why this place is so popular. The choices are mostly excellent with the granola hotcakes being a sure winner. The fratatas can be on the dry side and the service is normally slow but the food and menu excel enough to keep me coming back.

Food is usually a hit, but the staff can be a little too 'familiar' assuming that you care if they've had a bad day, life, etc...

Food is awesome. They use real maple syrup too!!!
It can get pretty crowded, but it is definetly worth the wait.

Come here if your looking for something different. The food is so yummy (especially the frittatas). I have never been disappointed. There's always a wait but it's worth it. They have an outside patio to wait with chairs and in the winter they have heat lamps and coffee to sip while waiting. Get a taste of the Italien market by stopping here first.

I have been to the Morning Glory on several occasions and have enjoyed every excursion! I have stood outside waiting for a table for Sunday Brunch for over an hour, but the wait is worth it and plus it gives you more time to catch up with your friends! They have amazing fritatas and their biscuits are out of this world! The atmosphere is non frilly, but exudes coziness and a welcoming flare. One thing, don't sit at the counter on a 100 degree day! If you have not tried this place, make a priority on your to do list!

This intimate diner offers very "gourmet" breakfast food thats a pleasent break the usual diner fare. From fritatas to the homemade drop-style biscuits, each offering has that special touch. I also love the jam thats served to accompany them!! Be prepared to wait on a weekend morning though...bring a newspaper and enjoy the outside patio.

Depending on the chef, Morning Glory's breakfast can be the best you've ever had. If you get the right girl (we all know who I'm talking about), your long wait to be seated will certainly be worth it. The food takes no time at all. And I like the wait staff no matter what they say about them!

Some chefs are better than others. Hit it on the right shift and you have perfection on a plate, otherwise, just a great meal. The garden keeper's frittata is a great standard order with a side of grits rather than the potatoes. Be sure to enjoy the preserves with your slice of biscut. The chocolate cherry toast is a hidden gem on the menu if you can stand the sweet so early in the morning, I can, but make sure they toast it. Service is slow but sound so don't be in a hurry when you go.
