Marion Z, I don't know what's got into YOU, but I shop here once a month and the employees are among the nicest
I have ever encountered. The meat and cheese people are excellent. The cashiers never fail to thank me for packing. I pay 1/3 the price for lunch meat and cheese. I am very particular about my food and I have never bought anything there that did not taste fresh. I guess if you don't like it, don't go there, but you obviously have an axe to grind. Or maybe you own a grocery store and want their business.

I have been employeed at ECF for almost two years. We have managers for each department in the store. Therefore all employees are carefully monitored for any kind of rudeness to customers. Rudeness at our store is never tolerated and is always reported directly to the owner of ECF. Rudeness usually results in either suspension without pay or termination depending on the circumstances. The owner treats her employees strictly but fairly. The rule of thumb is, it??s her store, she pays us very well for the jobs we are doing and if we don??t like it we can leave at any time. There is no one there forcing anyone to stay so if you do not like the treatment you are getting for the job quality you are performing, simply leave. The Owner slapping someone? I have to laugh at this comment because I believe that if this actually happened there would have been huge lawsuit for the owner which obviously never happened so I highly doubt this is true since I have never seen or heard of the owner physically assaulting a employee or customer. As far as breaks go, every employee gets a lunch break and a 10 minute break during the day. Bathroom breaks are simple, just ask the department manager to go?.and you go?simple. For the ice in the meat and the bleach? I have personally worked in several of the departments and I can honestly say that the owner is very strict with food quality. Even if a shipment comes in and the products are questionable she will not allow the employees to put this out for consumption. As an employee I know that we as a team do our best to work as fast and efficiently as we can to provide the best customer service as we can. However, some customers are more precise when it comes to their meat slices. So certain customers may take longer than others for that I do apologize but that type of control is out of my hands. I would like to thank all of the customers at ECF for being patient with us and with their peers in the store. As we all know the store can become very crowded very quickly but the system we have works best for everyone for the amount of people that we usually have in the store.

I would never give this place my business ever again. The employees treat the customers like garbage, are the most rude and ignorant acting people I have ever seen and the owner is a filthy mouthed combative old woman who cheats her employees and works them to the bone with not even a bathroom break. I dare you to find anyone who has not either worked there or known someone who has worked there for a short time. There is a high turnover because she will hire someone, work them illegally without breaks, then make them wait a month or more for a first paycheck that will be 3 to 5 dollars. When the employee asks about it, they are screamed at, called foul words and told that by accepting employment there they sign away their rights and she can not pay them for the first three months of work if they leave. And she makes SURE they leave. The only once who stay there are her family and friends. I even heard of her slapping employees in the face. A horrible person. No wonder the employees there are so hateful. They are extremely nasty to elderly people. To me it is not worth shopping at a place that yes, does ice their meat to add weight, and does wash meat off in a bleach solution in the summer when it starts to go bad, and yes is full of small shards of bone. No thanks.

I only go there because my wife a food aholic and likes the different array of things and price but I am amazed at the disrespect for the time you (wait) enter the store. First there are limited carts because of store size i guess, then the same goofy charactor is always standing with a salvation army kettle at the door to imply you should give all year I guess. Then as you enter a security person with a taser snapping directs you not to go in the exit door, and then your greeted with a cold store with almost sicking smell of bleach. After waiting 20 minutes for my deli meat the I ask the "associate meat cutter" how much would an inch of roast beef cost holding up my two fingers he then made a lame joke to which I was supposed to let out a gut busting laugh i guess because he said "its nothing just air between your fingers" then out of view wrapped 1 inch without slicing and signed with a non letter mark. So yes you save $ but for me its not worth selling out for a culture of bottom feeders in a depressed area of town.

Anybody that has a complaint about ECF is either a total idiot or has too much money and is used to being kowtowed to. My advice......Stay out. Go to Wegman's or Giant Eagle

Erie county Farms is a store if you want to use the meat right away. Some of the food is out of date or will be soon. You can't use the meat if you put it in the frigerator for a day . They put big chunks of ice in the chicken and ground beef so that is what you are paying for water. The store is to open at 10am you may be in line for 45 minutes before they open the doors. So you might want to go a little after 10.I have had no problems with the fruits and veggies. it is at a great price. So just beware of what you buy.

I've gone to Erie County Farms for years, and love it! You're right, it's not a big city, posh market. But if what you're looking for is saving money, it's the place to go. The quality of the food is good. The quality of the meat is the best. The quality of the produce can be a little lacking at times. You just have to look through everything you buy. Which I have experienced at other big chain stores as well. I have gone there and bought food for months for under 200, and saved a ton of money.
I wouldn't take my children in there, for a few reason. First, it's usually very crowded and you have to kind of push your way through small spaces. Sometimes you have to kind of leave your cart and squeeze through to get something, then return to your cart. I wouldn't leave my children unattended like that. I've experienced people being rude and pushing sometimes also, if it's extra busy. It depends on when you go. Secondly the store isn't that clean. It's more of a warehouse kind of store that you buy bulk food in, it'd not a chain store most are accustomed to. I would rather go alone, or with my husband, get in and get out. Then spend the rest of the afternoon packaging my meats for the freezer.
I can't say enough good about the store though. It's saved me a lot of money over the years. I think of it as more of a diamond in the rough. So anyone apposed to the atmosphere of ECF, that's alright with me. The fewer the people know about it, the better for me.... haha.

Erie County Farms is an Erie institution. I have been going there for roughly more than fifteen years and, to the person who mocks people who travel there, yes people do indeed travel distances to Erie County Farms. I have traveled well over an hour to get there years ago. You sound like a spoiled person who wants a fluffy, touchy-feely grocery store experience. Erie County Farms is not that kind of place so go somewhere else. As a matter of fact, ECF has toned down dramatically over time. When it was on W 26th people would get into fights over food being put out and steal things from unwatched carts. It's downright civil now. I was there as recently as two days ago.

For the people who actually want to save money, LOTS of money, then Erie County Farms is exactly where you want to be. On packaged foods I regularly find exactly the same product for more than twice the price at Giant Eagle. They will also usually be lower in price on most things than Sam's Club without the need for a club membership. For the rest of the offerings: meat, produce, deli, cheese, you simply won't find a better price anywhere. They are far less than other grocery stores, again, often by half the price or more.

Erie County Farms is an experience. You need to check on their schedule at goerie.com/eriecountyfarms because they regularly close for one week a month and sometimes two weeks in a row. I once spoke to an employee about this and she said that much of the business comes from welfare people so patronage dwindles as the month pushes on. So, they aren't open the last week of the month. If you aren't on welfare shop as late as possible in their monthly schedule. That will have the least number of people in the store. The store NEVER opens on time (10am) but there will be a line waiting to get in. We arrive early and wait in line. We have experienced opening delays from 15min to 45min. We shop as early as possible because, when the specials are out, they're gone for the day. If you shop regularly you'll develop your own system for getting what you want.

When we shop we shop to supply months at a time so we don't have to go back frequently. We had a freezer failure and I spent $380 there. That will cover us for most of a year. Try that at Wegman's or Giant Eagle. Normally we go twice a year and I spend around $225 each time. I can't recommend the Italian sausage and smoked pork chops highly enough but they are frequently unavailable. It's the luck of the draw. They had smoked chops this week so I bought 20 pounds of them.

I've never hit an out of date product but occasionally I have hit moldy produce in a bulk pack. It happens at Giant Eagle too so don't get bent out of shape over it. Just inspect what you buy.

We've been going to Erie County Farms for nearly two decades for a reason. We want to save money and the employees are very friendly and respectful. Just don't expect the colorful, mass-market supermarket that make you pay for the decorations.

I think Erie County Farms is amazing as far as the freshness and the prices are above amazing!!
As far as the person who said that they bought cheese or whatever that was way past date and molded beyond mold.. well no offence but, that's just stupid! LOL If you pick up the cheese to buy you can look at it and check the date, and if you are having it sliced from behind the counter, well you get to stand there and watch them slice each and every slice! Now that winter is almost over I can't wait to drive back up there! Keep up the GREAT work Erie County Farms! Your Amazing!

we currently live in Florida, and do we miss Erie County Farms. We made a trip to Erie monthly and brought a couple of coolers and stocked up.We couldn't afford to shop locally, because there was only one grocery store. This store was a real blessing to us.All the workers were helpful and friendly. A recent visit there in Feb.2010, reminded me of what we are missing. Keep up the good work, wish we had one here in Ocala, we have plenty of cattle and plenty of farms

Sorry, I would not shop at Erie County Farms. The ad even said the food is close to expiration. But today unfortunately i purchased something that was moldy well beyond expiration. It was a very bad experience just to get money back for moldy cheese. I would not recomend this store. I have shopped there since for the past 40 years but do to this experience my shopping days are over there. Shoppers beware of what you are purchasing there!!

I just love your market. My family and I travel all the way from Cleveland to your market and we just love it. I was there the weekend of Dec 12 and was looking for your calendar for 2010 so that we can see when you are open but you still had 2009 instead. Is there anyway you could email me one. I tell all my friend and family about you place and the great deals. Kelly I feel so sorry for your little closed minded self and you just a poor uneducated individual.

Great place to get great food on a budget. Always low prices. If the quality of the produce is less than desirable, they usually sell it for much less. I love going there when its really really busy because I, unlike that racist Kelly W. who posted a review here, happen to love people, and it makes me feel like I'm in a big city when I'm in there. Actually some diversity, unlike the west side of millcreek. The cashiers are great, many of them work their butt off all day yet still have a smile on their face. Highly recommended. I only wish they carried some free-range, hormone free, grass fed meats. Oh well.

Been shopping at Erie Country Farms a long time even back when it was on 26th. St. years ago. Lately, the produce has been less than adequate. The quality is poor and most varieties are not fresh, appear to have been frost damaged and won't last the week in your fridge. I have thrown out most of what I purchased the last two visits. Carrots, potatoes, peppers, yams, grapes, etc. all appear to be close to expiring, with spoiled decaying items mixed with borderline fresh items. The deli is good and meats are acceptable, but I have noticed the sale items in the meat dept. have signs of freezer burn, reason for the sale price, but they don't look healthy. There was a time when Erie County Farms was our favorite place to shop, but if you need to throw away most of what you buy, it doesn't make economic sense. The people are great, friendly, courteous and quick.

Yes, it's very busy at times, especially early in the month, but if you go in the late afternoon it's not bad at all. This store has the FRESHEST produce and meat you can buy and it is ALWAYS much MUCH cheaper than going to a grocery store or even Aldi. They also have a HUGE deli with SUPER low prices. Here's a tip, get your deli number right when you come in, do your shopping and then go back to the deli, it will be worth your wait.

Erie County Farms has cheap meat, but you must buy in bulk. To top it off, the meat is very good quality. Their produce is also very cheap, but very fresh and good quality. There are other odds and ends grocery type items available for sale also. There is a large selection of cheese there too, more than any grocery store I have ever seen. Their cashiers call out the price when you check out, so you know that they know how much it costs. They are closed Sundays and Mondays, so plan around those days. If they are going to be closed for a period of time, they always advertise in the paper to let you know.

PROS: Cheap meat and produce, but very good quality food

Even though this place can get really crowded and crazy, Erie County Farms, Erie's only indoor farmer's market, is a wonderful place to get all of your fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and diary products. The prices are better than what you'd find in a supermarket and buying fresh meats and produce straight from the farm will make you feel good. Occasionally, they will have specials on "name brand" products like ready to bake cookies, etc. Check out ECF and you won't be disappointed. Good quality food. Take a nerve pill before going if you go around the holiday season.

Now this store is another story, I love all their service and especially the hard working employee's, the only problem I have with it is, their workers work entirely too hard, they know all the prices by heart and are EXPECTED to be very very fast at ringing them up. I think the owner is really pushing them way to hard instead of hiring extra help which would be a more pleasant working environment for them. they still smile though, gotta hand it to them, and I do not know anyone or have ever worked at this place.

Great prices on fresh produce, you have to watch the prices on fresh meats, sometimes the grocery store may have better prices. They stock items that can't be found in other stores and for alot less money too. Can be very crowded, not for the tame of heart.

PROS: Sometimes very long lines at checkout.
CONS: wish it was closer to where I live.

This is where I shop to stock up my freezer with meats. They have a great selection and you can't beat the prices.

It gets a little crazy in here especially at the beginning of the month when everyone gets there assisstance checks, Social Sercurity or any other form of monetary help.

But the products are always fresh be it meats, produce, dairy, or deli. I can go here and buy over a months worth of meat and cheese for less then $100 to feed my family of 3 or 4 depending on whether there is company at the dinner hour.

I recommend this place especially if you are on a tight budget. It definitely stretches the budget a little further. Heck, I shop here and don't really have to worry.

PROS: Quality Meat, Dairy, Produce and Deli for a lot less
CONS: Some times very, very crowded and crazy
