If you are even remotely interested in railroads and the history behind them, you should take the trip to the Strausberg Railroad Museum in PA. It is a very nice day trip. They have a huge museum with dozens of actual trains that you can examine up close. They also have the railroad across the street that you can actually take for a ride. A very nice family day.

If you love trains then this is the place to go!! They have many train exhibits which is very nice. You can even go on some of the trains, which is very nice. They also have a small gift shop with hats, t shirts, pins, and so much more. It is a great place to take your whole family to. There is so much to do there and the prices are reasonable. If anyone in your family likes trains, I suggest you take them here.

This train museum, located in historic Strasburg, PA. in the heart of Amish Country, is HUGE!
Inside the massive structure, are full sized actual(not replicas) of dozens of old steam engines, passenger train cars, caboose's and private cars and dining cars, and MORE!

Some, you can even climb aboard and take a look-see for yourself! There's also an above walkway, where you can go up and look down upon the big steel beasts in all their glory!
AND, some of the train cars, you can even go down a flight of stairs and look up into the underside of the engines!

There is also a large train yard outside that's open only certain hours-weather permitting-and there is an actual train turntable.
My 3 boys always loved this part of our trips to Amish Country the best.
The admission rates are pretty good and worth all you will see in there!
There's even an old replica of a ticket station there with great things to see and even a large area where there are model trains running around the huge displays and kids can interact and run them via buttons.
Its just a lot to see and a lot of fun! They also have a great store where all sorts of train memoribilia and things to buy!

PROS: HUGE indoor train museum/actual old engines & cars. LOTS to see and do!
CONS: None!
