Spent a beautiful fall evening at the Riverside Inn in October 2009. We arrived early to walk the grounds and look at the antiques in the lobby and showcases in the hallways. The fireplaces were warm and cozy. The entire grounds are kept up wonderfully and the feel of being in a historic inn with the charm of a simpler past is undeniable. We were lucky enough to dine on a weekend that featured a fantastic dinner buffet. Everything was high quality with the flavor of home made food. The staff was friendly and the live piano music in the dining room was charming. The Riverside Inn is worth the trip. If you appreciate the history of a fully operational Inn from simpler times and want to enjoy a delicious meal do yourself a favor and visit The Riverside Inn. The prices were also very reasonable considering the cost of operating such an enormous old fashioned establishment.

I love the Riverside Inn! The Inn looks the like it is right out of the 1800's. The dining room is gorgeous, and they have excellent food. They also have an excellent dinner theater available. The prices are a little more expensive than the usual place, but I think it's well worth it!!!

I don't write reviews, I don't even vote up or down on reviews on Amazon begin 'helpful," but I was talking to some out of town friends who were looking for somewhere special to stay in the Erie area and I suggested the Riverside. They said they'd seen a really bad review and sent me the link. After reading it, I feel compelled to do something to try to dilute "Kristen's" rant.
I've been going to the Riverside, me and my freinds and family, for at least 15 years, and every time it has been just great. The new owners have re-done in interior and re-worked the menu and now it's even better.
The amazing building was built in the late 19th century during the boom days of the "Health Water" craze, and it's the only one left. The rooms are a little smaller than we've become used to, what with the Marriot ethic and all, but each is decorated with period antiques, and each is unique.
People swarm to the dinner theater in summer and the Medieval Feast in fall. The place is the annual site for weddings, graduations, and proms, and it frames each event in as memorable a setting as can be imagined.
Apart from the Chautauqua Institute, which is a gated community, seasonal, expensive (and a little snooty to suit me), the Riverside Inn is like no other experience that can be had anywher near here. It's easy to get to, fun to hang out and relax at, and, like I said, the food is excellent. As is the service, by the way, (I feel the need to say that, what with Kristen's griping). And as far as Kristen is concerned, I poked around and found that she has posted this same review absolutely everyplace she can, under different names. So okay, maybe she had a bad time, but her review is a year old, and the degree of detail is so memorized and neurotic that she sounds like one of those people who never likes anything and can't let anything go. Frankly I don't trust that she is even reporting her own dining experience accurately.
I'm feeling a little defensive of the Riverside now. I don't like bullies. And I would hate for anyone to miss the place because of one cranky review.

Riverside Inn was a HORRIFIC experience! We decided to go to Riverside for my mothers 50th birthday. We wanted to go somewhere special, for this was a milestone in her life. We made reservations for 10 people at 5:30PM. When we arrived, we walked through the empty dining room. We were the only table that was there and now I know why. Our waitress was unable to keep up with our drinks. We decided to send my cousins to the bar, because it was taking entirely way too long to get a drink. We ordered appetizers; my mom (the birthday girl) really wanted the asparagus which was one of the choices. The server waited twenty minutes after my mom ordered it to let her know there was no asparagus in the house. OK, whatever?we finally got our appetizers after waiting an hour! NO JOKE! I got the artichoke dip, it was awful. They put half artichokes in a very thin cheese sauce that you had to basically spoon onto the bread. YUK! After we ate our appetizers, we waited an additional 45 minutes for our food to come out. Our waitress was nowhere to be found in between waiting periods. We continued to go to the bar to get our own drinks. Finally my mom got up and asked for the manager. The chef came out and apologized, saying there was staff issues, but it would be much better now that he was in the kitchen! OK, we were thinking maybe a little relief..at least our dinners would be good. Boy, was I wrong!! Where did they find this so-called ??Chef?. WOW! When we got our food, it was awful! Steaks done way to well, food wasn??t fresh, people who ordered mashed potatoes got baked, and so on. Prime Rib meal and steak got sent back to kitchen because of being so overly cooked. By that time, I didn??t even want what they were going to bring me because I was disgusted at this point. THEN, a waitress comes over and says to our table ??Well, to make light of everything?I had a son that was in a bad car accident and was severely hurt?.even though the food was bad, at least you have each other and that??s what matters!? Wow, I really have no comment on that one.
To make matters worse, the waitress came out and said they were having issues with their computer system so she had to go around the table with her ordering pad and see how to split the checks. We waited an additional half hour for checks. When the checks came, they were all wrong. UGH! Really?we couldn??t just have a bad meal and leave. They had to drag it out by messing up the checks. By the time we left, we had been there for 3 hours!! They didn??t even try to make it right. No percentage off, no NOTHING. AWFUL! BAD, BAD idea to go here!! New owners really need to get a grip, this place will never last with the people they have working there.
