After viewing your somewhat empty parking lot in comparison to what it was at one time, (in my view) I felt it necessary to write this memo.

Late one afternoon (1:45 or so) my wife and I stopped in for lunch. We had stopped going because of the rising prices. (My wife went there in the morning with one of our daughters and spent $24.00 on breakfast?.we were shocked.) yet the new addition wasn??t there the last time I visited so we decided to take another chance.

We walked into a somewhat vacant restaurant I??m guessing it was after lunch rush and not yet dinner. We sat there for 12 min??s or so before anyone came by. With her pad in hand and somewhat rushed to get to another table she threw down the menus and ran to deliver the others. On her way back, almost on the run she took our drink orders. It took another 15 min for her to come back and take our food order; after all she was busy talking to some friends at another table. Finally when she returned and took our order we felt comfortable the service would improve. After another 17 min??s we got our food:

BLT on white toast. The bacon was maybe one piece broken up into several pieces. The bacon was as hard as a rock with one lonely piece of lettuce and a tomato aprox 1 ? in Dia. about the size of a sliced pickle. There was no may-o and the toast was burnt. The plate was bare no side??s no chips a pickle or anything. I had to ask for may-o I finally got up and walked up to our server (who was once again engaged in conversation with other customers) and requested a side of mayo. She said, ??Ok I??ll see what I can do? and continued the conversation. At that point (45 min??s and just getting our food) we considered leaving but there wasn??t enough time to get lunch elsewhere.

The other sandwich was a turkey burger. My wife describes it as a freezer burned old hockey puck?. we began to laugh; this is some kind of comedy act?you can??t make this scenario up!!!

Our server was a middle aged short brown haired female with attitude!

When I got the bill I laughed and sighed, paid it, tipped the server and left.

I made it my mission to compare prices of the same food in other restaurants in a 10-mile radius. The prices are between 1% to 25% lower yet 100% of the other restaurants have better quality far more quantity and some sort or side chips, fries, cole slaw or at least a pickle. With the turkey burger?. no comparison 100% better cheaper and taster. My suggestion?. take it off the menu.

We are not going to sign this?for reasons that are obvious- we know you; we have several businesses in the area and our kids go to school in Chadds Ford and Unionville.

I understand this is America and you can run your business as you see fit. We were loyal customers and to allow this kind of price gouging, lack of attention to detail with the overall none caring attitude is unforgivable in a business that truly values customers.

I hope you take this to heart and see fit to make some changes soon. If not I hope this makes the papers. Your customers deserve better food, lower prices, and at least polite servers.

Very good eatery. Nothing fancy. Excellent service and the food is mouth watering. Good choice! The servings are good size yet not over whelming. Line is always long because word has spread that it's well worth the wait.

If you are traveling through the beautiful, bucolic Brandywine Valley then this is a must visit stop. After 40 years they recently expanded the room - not much change just more room - to help with the long lines. Breakfast is amazing (served all day) with the best pancakes, real melt in your mouth waffles and eggs that seem like the hen is right out back. Locals love it which is why line are always long ... dinner is also great with real old fashioned home cooking just as would expect from some place that has been inviting in hungry diners as long as Hanks's.

Hanks Place is located in Chadds Ford on route 1. Very good food for a reasonable price. Great for breakfast. The place is a little small and you might need to stand in line for about 15-20 minutes on a Saturday or Sunday morning. But it's worth it.
