Food was basic Asian fusion.. sometimes you expect more from Old City. The manager has extremely poor social skills and through his "joking" made us feel extremely unwelcome (ironically, in telling us that we should be careful what you say while eavesdropping on our conversation). This is why this business has gone downhill in the last few years- you need to make your customers feel welcome. Not impressed.

This past Saturday is the LAST time we will ever eat there again. We were a large group there to celebrate a friends birthday.

Well - the waitress (and perhaps also one of the managers - an asian lady) was quite rude and indifferent the entire time we were there. It wasn't just my impression - we all commented on it after leaving.

Their food is very good as are their drinks. But for $50 a person we expect at least decent treatment and service, not this cold fish of a woman who clearly felt we were imposing on her to patronize the restaurant. Not one smile. Not one, "how is everything - is the food ok"?

And since our party was large we got stuck with a mandatory 20% for her hideous service. NEVER again. We don't mind spending a lot when we go out - but to be treated that way? Forget it! It's inexcusable.

Absolutely correct in all respects. This was our first (and last) time at Swanky Bubbles. We were a large group to celebrate a friends birthday. Well - the waitress (and I think also a manager - an asian lady) was quite rude and indifferent the entire time we were there. It wasn't just my impression - we all commented on it after leaving.

The food is very good. No doubt about it. And the drinks are also very good. But it's not cheap - expect $50 per person with a drink or two each. i.e.: a single bottle of domestic beer is $7 and up. And that would be fine - EXCEPT for the nasty treatment by our waitress.

Since our party was large we got stuck with a mandatory 20% for her hideous service. We will NEVER again go there. At $50 a head we could eat pretty much anywhere and also be treated like customers.

I went to Swanky Bubbles with a friend for dinner on Saturday. We had a reservation, and were seated almost immediately. We got 2 huge sushi rolls to share as well as the seared Tuna. The servicde was attentive and speedy, but not rushed. We ended up getting another roll because the first 2 were so good. The bill was right around $100 (including 4 cocktails and 2 bowls of edemame), which I thought was a great value. I'll certainly be back!

My wife and I came here not long ago enjoyed the bar to its fullest. Their champagne is to die for and I don't even care for it that much usually. my wife tried the sushie and loved it I had the crab cakes and they were made very well. This place is a bit expensive but the champagne is worth it - wow!

I found the service good and friendly, the food was amazing but you have to share it with your friend/boyfriend or other. The Champagne was unbelievabley tasty and the various kinds were amazing. I would go back for another taste of their champagne, even my boyfriend liked it and he doesn't like champagne. The place was very small and crowded it needed a bit more room and the music should have been a little lower but overall I would go back.

This has been one of our favorite restaurants for a while because of the great food and friendly service. However, on our most recent visit, the attitude given to our party by the manager, both before dining and after spending hundreds of dollars on cuisine and wine, was inexcusable. We will never eat there again. Furthermore, we will spread the news of our visit to our numerous groups of friends who dine there often, or should I say, used to. Nice job, guy.

I Definitely Recommend Swanky Bubbles! I am 20 and went with a group of my friends. We all enjoyed our food the music and the service! I'm vegetarian and found plenty of options. I liked the mexican roll, the veggie tempura, and the GOAT CHEESE CRISPS ^_^. my friends loved the chicken satay, dragon roll, and the banana boat dessert. we couldn't have any drinks :( (we were even carded at the door once), but the other patrons seemed pleasantly buzzed. The only cons are the stairs to the bathroom (the top stairs slant down and the bottom stairs slant up) 0.o and not everything on the menu is to die for. (lobster rissotto, crabcakes) .
I have been here a handful of times. It is definitely an olde city FAVE!

I have been to this restaurant about 5 times, needless to say I love it here!! The staff is nice and the service is great. The food is for sharing so this place is great for groups but even good for alone time with your special person. The atmosphere is really good too - romantic but yet fun. Great food and drinks. Their Lobster Risoto is wonderful, filet mignon, sushi, you bascially can't go wrong with anything you order! One of my favorite cocktails is the Purple Passion - keep them coming! I will always recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants an enjoyable night out with your wife/hubby or with a good group of friends! Perfect. The prices are great too...not over priced! They have Valet parking too which is good. Can't go wrong with Swanky Bubbles!!!

Fun bar, delicious champagne cocktails, great atmosphere, sushi ...is a little iffy. My first experience there was great all though the maki rolls were huge and a little messy (I wouldn't recommend it for a first date if you're trying to make a good impression). The second time I went I wasn't quite satisfied with my sushi. However, they do have a creative line-up of rolls and also offer a variety of cooked rolls for the raw-fish-phobic. It was good, but it has still left me in search a truly great sushi restaurant in the city. I would definitely go back for drinks though!

I finally went to Swanky Bubbles recently and was dissapointed. We were a little late for our reservations and had to sit upstairs. Maybe that ruined it, because the ambience downstairs is definitely preferred. Upstairs is mostly used for big groups and the did not continue the decorating or theme up there. Our server was bored and uninterested even though she knew it was our first time there. The sushi was ok and my entree (thai dish w/ fried wontons instead of rice) was incredibly salty! The only positive was the yummy champagne cocktail. But there were so many choices on the sushi and cocktail menus, it would have helped to have a server that cared to give suggestions and make the experience worth it. If I go back again I would only sit downstairs, but definitely will not be rushing back.

Definitely highly recommend. I loved the food. The vibe. The bill. The DJ was also a great addition as he was certainly dropping that fire. One thing though...avoid the banana split because it missing the banana and ice cream. The steak was very good as was the barby-q shrimp. Don't let the sh*tty name fool you, the bill for two should run about $60. So its while it may be swanky its not very pricey. All in all, great experience. When we told them about an entree that was missing for the bill, our uber professional server gave us a round of free bubbly. I recommend getting there for an 8 pm dinner and hitting the Old City streets shortly thereafter.

This was my first experience in the city of Philadelphia. Being from Baltimore, my boyfriend wanted to take me into the city to show me around and have a great night...mission accomplished!!! I had a few too many glasses of Champagne and Chambord, but that's what they're known for...the Champagne!!! The food was great, so was the service. The parking was $20 but that's not Swanky's fault :( Cool decor...all around fun!!!

Swanky is amazing. I love this place. The food is spectacular. the sushi is amazing and the chicken fried rice is addictive. They must put crack in it or something, haha. Really, you must give this place a try. The staff is the friendliest ever. We came for a champagne tasting that was hosted by the General Manager and this really funny French guy. We had the best time! These guys really know what they're doing. The manager taught us so much about champagne we can't wait to go back and try everything. Love you Swanky. Don't ever change!

OK, I was nearly misled by other reviews. My friends and I went for a champagne tasting and had the best time ever. This place has the yummiest chicken fried rice I've ever had. The sushi was amazing and they serve it until 1am everyday! We heard about a champagne tasting and just had to go. We met some of the nicest people ever. The staff was so friendly. Such a bunch of sweeties. We tried so many delicious champagnes and learned so much. The manager really knows his stuff. I had read some harsh words, but must strongly disagree. We can't wait to go back! Keep your head up Swanky. This place is a must try!

I've been to this place twice and both times I was very disappointed. The food was poor at best and the service was equally poor. I did not think the menu was inventive or the atmosphere inviting. Basically the name is the best part about it.

I usually like this resturant, or at least the drinks, but my last experience there left me with a horrid taste in my mouth for the managment.
I took my friend, who was going there for the first time. He is very into asian culture and was admiring the unusual chopsticks that they have on the table. He asked the waitress if he could either purchase a pair or if she knew where he could buy similar ones. The waitress (who was very pleasant) went to ask a manager. She asked the manager right next to our table. The woman's response was, "I don't know but make sure to clear the chopsticks from that table and check the tables around those people when they leave because if they are asking about it, they are probably going to steal them." Little did she know WE were the table asking.
Now, I'm sure that they get the chopsticks stolen all the time, but if we were asking about them, I would think that means we are honest people. If you are going to be so dumb to say something like that, say it in the kitchen, where customers can't hear you.
I ended up assuring the waitress that we are not theives (heck, I'm a DA and my friend is a police officer) and that their chopsticks were safe. I'm hoping that it got back to the manager. It was so snotty and pretentious, that I don't know that I will be heading back there any time soon...

I have absolutely no idea how this restaurant has received these high ratings. was there VERY recently and should have known straight from the get-go that it was a bad idea. First, a sushi joint without a sushi bar...something must be wrong. The decoration of this place is out of control i would be utterly embarrassed to take someone on a date here, not unless it was a joke, it was as cheesy and over decorated as a old school swingers club. Matted carpet at what should be a fresh, "SWANK" sushi place, c'mon now!! Lets move passed what it LOOKED like. The food. . . I literally could not get passed the appetizer in fear of what the raw fish would taste like. We ordered shrimp and veggie tempura (playing if safe) and when it came out it wasn't tempura rather it was once FROZEN shrimp and veggies DEEP FRIED straight from the frozen plastic bag, you could call it by the way it smelled (as I did). We had ordered plenty of sushi but told the server that we had to bounce (told her my partner was feeling ill) because well we didn't want the server to pick up any slack for our disliking this place. Unfortunately this was our last experience in philly (coming from NY) and it LITERALLY left a bad taste in our mouth.

The restaurant is good for groups of people, couples don't go. I went one time with a date and wound up sitting so close to the other table, it felt like a double date. They could hear everything we were saying and viseversa.

Moving on to a bigger issue, the restaurant is supposedly known for sushi, yet it was horrible! After the "double date", i went one other time to this restaurant with a group. We had the private room upstairs. Everyone had ordered sushi and while it was being brought out, I got up to use the restroom. When I returned to the room, there was a pungent smell of roten fish there. The sushi was not fresh at all. The california roll had to be chewed, whereas in other places, it's so soft it practically melts in your mouth. All of us were starving so we devoured the food since we would have had to wait for another 30 minutes or so for cooked food to come out. We were left with a bad taste in our mouth (literally) and then upset stomach the next morning. DO NOT GO!!

I have been to this restaurant several times with good results. However, my last visit was the most indignant experience of my life. I went there with my best friend and her friend during restaurant week. Our reservation was not honored. We were asked to wait for tables to become available. After waiting for 42 minutes we asked how much longer we needed to wait. The general manager was discourteous and told us that he would let us know when the table became available. We tried to explain that it was not right, that we had a reservation. He, in turn told us that it was hard to seat 3 people that was the reason everybody else was going in front of us. We tried to reason with him and explain that it was not our problem and that we were never told of that inconvenience before. At that point the general manager told us that there was no point for us to wait because we were not going to be happy regardless of what he did. WE WERE ASKED TO LEAVE! There are no nice words that I can choose from to explain the details in which we were savagely mistreated. I strongly recommend that you call ahead and ask specific questions about getting a table there. I cannot stop apologizing to my best friend for embarrassing her with her friend that night by taking them there.

We went to Swankly Bubbles with a large party and received great service. We really enjoyed sharing appetizers, which were all delicous, as well as the sushi. In comparison, our entrees weren't as fabulous, which is the reason it didn't get a 5-star review. Still, no real complaints and I would definitely return to Swanky Bubbles in the future!

we went on a thursday night and were greeted warmly and seated promptly (and at a decent table as well). we read previous reviews and were expecting a larger/louder place, but found the restaurant to be small (but not cramped) and with a quieter atmosphere. drink selection and menu were great -- we HIGHLY recommend the wasabi mashed potatoes and seared ahi tuna entree! one caveat -- though it doesn't seem like they enforce it, they do post a dress code -- no work boots, no athletic jerseys ... definitely recommend this place and would probably re-visit if in philly again.

THIS PLACE SUCKS??.I don?t know what everyone on this page is taking about?this wanna-be-hip-place-to-be was a serious let down. We went with a large party for a birthday and two years in a row and I sware this will be the last time I will give that place another dime. I ordered two beers and a martini at the bar and it cost me thirty bucks. Everyone in the group, there was about fifteen, ordered sushi but when it came out they served it ?Family Style? which ment fifteen people at one very long table had to all clamer around ONE plate to get what they ordered as well as only bringing one thing of soy sauce, and the rest of our meals came out one plate at a time over the course of an hour ?served as its cooked? they call it, never never never again will I eat there!!! I love to eat at places in the city, they can always suprise and amaze...this was not a place I would ever recomend. I rate it a one simply because it had corona?

Pros: nice ambience

Cons: Very small portions, orders come out at all different times

After a day at the Spa we went downtown and had a lovely time at this fun spot. The food is very good, the bar has everything including a very very interesting decor. The service was excellent as was the food.

Pros: sushi and the bar drinks

Swanky's is one of my favorite restraunts in the city. Serving food every night until midnight it is a great place to go late for great sushi and good drinks. I love the atmoshpere being dark and low key and there is always a dj there on the weekends playing fantastic music. It is also great to go for a quick bite and drinks to start off the night. I have ALWAYS had excellent service and received my food on time. Swanky Bubbles remains one of my favorite places to go in Philadelphia.

I eat at Swanky Bubbles at least a couple times a month. I have been going there for at least 4 years. They are always very nice and the food is delicious. I went during Restaurant Week on Sunday and had a wonderful time. I mean, come on, it's $30. You can't eat at McDonalds for less than 6 buck a person. You gonna complain about the shrimp and the rice. Their fried rice is obscene and everyone I tell to try it calls me the next day and tells me how crazy good it is. This is my favorite restaurant in Philly and I eat out all the time. If you don't like it there, don't go and make it easier for me to get a table at the time I wanna eat there. Swanky is tops on my list!!!!

Pros: Friendly staff & Great Food

Cons: Hard to get a table sometimes

I feel like this whole area around the bottom of Market is full of overpriced crap tailored to money happy idiots from the suburbs who are too afraid to try an actual ethnic restaurant . This place served me this kind of pseudo-Asian nonsense that cost three times the price of an actual Asian restaurant. . . I feel sorry for these sheltered pricks who have no idea what crispy beef is supposed to taste like and settle for this.

PROS: The sushi was quite good.
CONS: Everything was overpriced and underportioned

I left this message on the restaurant's website:
I came to your restaurant for restaurant week tonight and was actually very disappointed. This was a surprise to me as I was extremely excited to dine at your restaurant as I am a sushi-lover for sure. First of all the service was crappy. As my party and I waited at the bar for a table, the bartender gave us a drink menu and then never came back to get a drink order. By the time the host came to get us we hadn't even been served. (At least 10 minutes at the bar.) We then sat at the table and it seemed like it took forever to get our first round of drinks and our orders taken. Apps came out in a reasonable time but the main course had to have taken at least 30 minutes to come out. The server never came to let us know the food was delayed and when we finally got our food, he never asked us how it was. On top of that....30$ for 4 little shrimp on a wooden stick with loads of fried rice as filler that wasn't very good either??? Some deal, I doubt our meals were even worth $30.00. Ok maybe your food isn't very good...hey it happens...but I think the service just really did us in. Overall it was extremely slow and there was a lack of basic friendly courtesy. Next time, you should try to impress people during restaurant week not stiff them with 4 lousy shrimp. I am sorry if this comes off as very rude, but I just would not come to your restaurant ever again as there just are so many spectacular restaurants in philadelphia.

Cons: Slow service, overpriced food.

Went last night for restaurant week, and was disappointed. The fun atmosphere downstairs disappeared when my party was seated upstairs, and waited, and waited, and waited for our server. The spicy tuna roll was less than par, and my crispy beef dish was merely a pile of over salted french fries, which ruined the flavor of anything else on the plate. I do have to admit, after ordering, our server and busboy were attentive and prompt, except for when my date waited 10 minutes for his entree after I had been served. Something seemed off about the whole experience, and it certainly does not entice me to go back for seconds.

This is such a great addition to Olde City....a New Twist. The 'bubbly' menu will have you giddy. Great for a romantic night or a girls night out in 'The Red Room'. You will get your money's worth I promise. First experience was Restaurant Week2/19-2/24 ...been back 5 times since.

Pros: Reasonal pricing, Great service

Back when a new restaurant was opening up in Old City on a daily basis, Swanky Bubbles was the place to be. It had great drinks and a decent menu. If you find yourself hungry in the Old City after a night of partying, Swanky can still be counted on to deliver a good, warm meal, but don't make reservations here hoping for a fab night out. The wine list is unimaginative, the food is good, but far from great, service is mediocre at best, and this place is loud and smoky.

I have been here several times and it is always a pleasure. Last night's dining experience was superb! Our server was great, very attentive. We ordered the Enlightenment Roll, Sunburst Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll and this sushi was fresh and fantastic. Also got the Fiji Ribs and Scallops & Shrimp and they were delicious. Bottomline: go if you ever get the chance! You will fall in love with the food and service.

Swanky has great, cheap food served by fun and helpful waitresses. They have a huge menu that has something for everyone and a waitstaff will explain it to you. The best days to go are early in the week because you don't have to deal with Weekend Warriors(people who only party on the weekends and annoy the rest of us), so you can relax after a good meal and join the regulars at the bar for one of Swanky's signature cocktails.

Tried this place as rank among Best of Philly 2002.....so disappointed. Lobster roll had a lot of rice, (fresh?) minced lobster the diameter of a pencil, and THICK julienne cucumber ALL IN A SIZE of those grocery store sushi take-outs! This spot is not best nor good for sushi but more for lounge/ambience (& their bubbley) with sushi bites. For the best lobster roll, goto Pod with a lobster head presentation & awsome sauce. Morimoto is THE sushi spot and now Philly's Nobu, not for california rollerz. For good sushi try the other ranked Japanese restaurants listed here, hit/miss? In addition, it's not upscale (wannabe?) but trendy/casual dress . Dining here would be romantic on slow nites, or otherwise trendy for 1st dates.

Pros: polite service, groovey ambience, NEVER COMING BACK

Cons: only parties = or <4, meager sushi, unremarkable entrees

.

There's a reason there are no asian people in this so-called sushi restaurant. #2? Are you kidding me? Want good sushi? Try morimoto's.

Pros: interesting champagne

Cons: sushi is bad, entrees are worse

.

Great champagne, that's for sure, and service was very nice. NOT the place for a quiet evening--around 10 the music comes on, loud enough as to make dinner-time conversation quite hard, though fitting for just sitting around the bar.
Superb sushi. Seared tuna was good quality but not flavorful, and the lobster risotto is like lobster oatmeal--strange and not edible as a main course. Stick with the sushi and you're okay.

It is more than you expect in old city. Service it friendly...really friendly and the food is excellent for the price. it is loud, b/c of music, not the voices of other customer's echo. Relaxed yet very attentive servers. Can be formal or informal, and still have the great food and service for a reasonable price, unlike the rest of Old City.

Went to Swanky Bubbles on Saturday and had one of the best dining experiences of my life. The food was awesome... they must put crack in the chicken fried rice. The sushi was fresh and affordable and the staff was very friendly. We did not have a reservation because we tried to get one earlier in the week and they were completely booked but we were quickly squeezed in after another reservation reduced in size. Swanky Bubbles is very SWANKY!

Chicken fried rice was quite good. The chicken spring rolls I do not recommend --the chicken in them is like a spongy, gelatinous concoction. We loved the wasabi mashed potatoes. I did not try the sushi. The service was good, but nothing extraordinary. Watch out for the stairs down to the ladies room, they are an accident waiting to happen. Parties of 6 or more may feel a little cramped. The place is small.

A group of 5 of us went to Swanky Bubbles after a show at the Forrest Theater. 2 of us had been there previously and wanted to show the others this cute place with all the great drinks. We were greeted by a horribly rude hostess and terrible service. We walked out, headed straight to the Continental and vowed never to go back to Swanky.

I love sushi and when I want good sushi (not the Fresh Fields/Superfresh kind), I go to Swanky Bubbles. There is a large selection of sushi and the pieces are definitely a mouthful. It can get a little expensive if you like to eat a lot of sushi. And if you add on a couple of champagne drinks, it can get real pricey. BUT, it's definitely worth the money!

The service was the best I have ever had, the waiter was always there when we needed something and when we were done with dinner, he reserved two comfy chairs upstairs for us to continue with some cocktails. The sushi was excellent, the ambience was perfect for a romantic date. I wouldn't go here with my buddies, but it is a great for dates.
