Not the friendliest but saved my ferret
About 2 years ago, my ferret started to lose his hair (the first visible symptom of adrenal gland cancer). My vet (not Fox Chapel) told me that there was nothing that could be done, but when he started having trouble going to the bathroom, that meant that it would be time to put him down. We watched him continue to lose hair until he was completely naked except for his head and feet. Just by chance, I mentioned this to someone who recommended Dr. Wagner at Fox Chapel. I took my ferret in for a "Des implant," and within a few months, his hair started to come back (the implant shrinks the tumors and stops symptoms). It has now been 18 months, and I have a perfectly happy - and furry - ferret. But I have to say that the people in that office aren't the friendliest group of people.

Wonderful !!!
I absolutely love Dr. Resek ! She is an excellent veterinarian and I would highly, highly recommend her to anyone !!! We recently had a mis-hap with our dog and was mis-diagnosed by a different vet here in Pittsburgh. In less than 20 minutes she ran necessary tests and had the problem solved. I will take all of my pets to this hospital ! I have met with the other vets as well and all are very nice and informative !

Horrendous experience
I took my cat when she was sick. The vet was inexperienced, and took tens of unnecessary x-rays which didn't find anything in my cat's stomach. The cost of x-rays was near $1,000. The vet kept on saying the cat's going to die which made me very upset. All my cat needed was an IV fluid to make her feel better. The vet also wanted to open the cat's stomach even after the cat was OK and was ready to go home. She said that she must open the cat's stomach to make sure there is nothing. Absolutely horrendous experience, and I never go there again.

Terrible, Unfriendly and Uncooperative
I would never recommend this Vet to anyone: The Vets don't know how to listen, and the receptionists are rude- I've spread this story to our neighborhood meetings, any UPMC-employed pet owner that we know (we've worked there for years), and any pet owner we know: In mid-October, I specifcally asked Dr. Miggins to provide vaccinations for boarding our dog for the next 6 months. When I went to board her in January, the kennel called and said that they could not take her because she was not up-to date on her distemper shot. Not only did Dr. Miggins NOT acknowledge that he had made this mistake, he advised that we had to bring her in for a regular office visit ($42) to get her shot. While I already argued that we had paid for an office visit less than 3 months ago, would be willing to pay for the necessary shot, and ASKED SPECIFICALLY to have her ready for the kennel--he chose to ignore me. I promptly pulled my dog out and found a friendlier vet, who would not charge an office visit to cover a vaccination and instead charge a "tech fee" of $15, if a vaccine needed to be administered in between office visits. Don't choose the VCA: Unfriendly & Uncooperative.

Great vets, wonderful service
Having just moved to Pittsburgh and left a veterinary office behind that I loved I wasn't sure that I would find the same kind of service elsewhere. I was not disappointed with VCA Fox Chapel ! The veterinarians are wonderful : compassionate, they took their time to explain things, and overall it was a wonderful experience. As for the other review about the heartworm testing, it is my understanding that you should have your dog tested yearly and it is inappropriate for them to dispense heartworm medications without testing. Also, many of the reasons vets do not like internet pharmacy companies is because they obtain their medications from unknown sources. They want to make sure we get the right medicine. They were very kind and did price match my request. Overall I think this is a great place ! I didn't mind the cost (having come from California it was a relief to see these prices ) ! Plus, I think their quality of care far exceeds that of other hospitals.
PROS: Great doctors !!!!
CONS: None, keep up the god work

Good service,
However it is a bit pricy. We were very pleased with the treatment of our animal but felt as thought the price was elevated for the area. We really needed to get our dog in to a vet otherwise we would have gone somewhere more reasonable.

Avoid this vet
I went to VCA Fox Chapel Animal Hospital for several years because they were convenient but finally switched because their service was so bad. As an example, I needed to get more heartworm preventative medicine for my dog and when I called to get it, they refused to give me a prescription unless I got it filled with them. This is illegal and when I pointed that out, they said they couldn't give me a prescription at all since my dog hadn't had a test. Since I always take her there, I asked why they hadn't given her the test. They said they could give her the test if I got the prescription filled there. Also, my Grandma's dog is very sick and went there and they said there was nothing they could do (after charging almost $1000 in tests) and another vet was able to help.
