Great cuts and color
I recommend Lorraine for hair, she always does a wonderful job. I've been going to her for many years and trust her opinion. In fact I just received a compliment on my hair by a stranger in a coffee shop the other day and I haven't had it cut in months. And I recommend Jonathan for color. I've only been going to him for a short time but he always does such a nice job.

Worst manicure and makeup advice I've ever had.
Worst manicure and makeup advice ever. Ruined my enjoyment of my sister's wedding.
Two days before my sister's wedding, I visited the Adolf Biecker salon for a makeup application and a manicure. A complete disaster, so much so that I wish I'd never gone. The manicure totally peeled off within 24 hours, so that I had to redo myself right before a wedding. This has never happened to me anywhere else before.
As for the makeup advice from Rachel, it was wrong in every possible way. She ignored my stated preferences and concerns, such as my love of the Aveda lipstick in Schizandra that I was wearing and the Aveda translucent loose powder that I wanted to purchase more of. Instead, she wiped off my lipstick and globbed on some awful gloss that made my mouth appear as if it were bleeding, and dabbed gold dust on my bottom lip, resulting in an unflattering mess. Worst of all, she insisted that I purchase the Aveda Dual Foundation in Cream, even though my skin requires very little coverage. I could not tell in the unnatural light of the salon how wrong it was for me-- too thick and too white, hiding and aging my skin instead of enhancing it. Besides, I was too distracted by the disgusting lip cosmetics to notice what else was wrong with her application. Of course her colleagues in the salon gushed about how pretty my makeup was, so I felt pressured to buy what Rachel suggested.
Having naively followed Rachel's advice about the powder foundation, I ended up looking like a dead clown at my sister's wedding. Although upon application it appeared alright, within an hour it thickened into a white pasty mask. Had I been encouraged to stick with what I knew I liked, or at least to test out this new product in natural light before the big event, I could have been spared the embarrassment of wedding photos with me sporting the ugliest face I have ever had the misfortune to show in public.
Since then I visited the Aveda store at Liberty Place, where all of the employees agreed that Rachel's suggestion was totally inappropriate for me.
I cannot understate how poorly the folks at the Adolf Biecker salon prepared me for my sister's wedding, and in fact, permanently damaged my memories of it.

Disappointed
I called to have a haircut/highlight and they insisted that I must come in for a consultation, first. Who in the world ever heard of this? What a terrible use of time. I understand what they are trying to accomplish, but I just don't have time for that and in my mind, it's a deterrent. I promptly cancelled and found another salon.

Absolutely wonderful!
I went to Adolf Biecker for the first time on a gift card for my birthday and had a fabulous time! The staff members were helpful and friendly, and the services were memorable! I plan to bring my group of friends there for a full day of pampering since Adolf Biecker is spacious enough to accomodate large spa parties. I can't wait to go back and experience more relaxing and rejuvenating services!

Adolf Biecker- exceptional!
My group of friends and I have a wonderful spa and salon experience! The services were exceptional and we enjoyed every minute or our massages, facials, manicures and blowouts. We also appreciated the care and attention the staff paid to us throughout our day.

Stephanie and the salon atmosphere
First of all, I am one of the few guys to go to Adolf Bieker and have been getting my haircut from Stephanie for 3 years now. She does a very good job and is quite sweet - I agree with some of the other posts that there is a general snobby attitude although this doesn't come from Stephanie. the owners do appear to be trying to make changes. They renovated and modernized the salon and there are more stylists below the age of drawing social security. watch out for the strollers and wheelchairs and enjoy the view of the park and proximity to walnut street shopping etc..
PROS: stephanie is sweet and does a great job.
CONS: wheelchairs obstacles

Large salon
I went to Stephanie at Adolf Bieker for almost two years. She was an associate at the time, so only charged $35 for a cut. It was always decent, but on the conservative side, so when her prices inched up to $50, I decided to find another place (also in hopes for a slightly more exciting/trendy haircut). I never found the salon very relaxing. It's very large and always seemed to have older clients (I was a student then so I went during the day), and had an impersonal snobby vibe. The space is large and minimilist. They do use Aveda products which is nice. Personally, I've been more happy at Liquids, and since I've moved to NYC, I go to Hair 2 Stay.
PROS: Decent cuts
CONS: Impersonal

Great results, but slightly disorganized
I used Adolf Bieker for my wedding day hair - plus all my bridesmaids & my mother. They did beautiful work & we were really pleased with how everything turned out. Everyone was very sweet, but the operation seemed very disorganized. I made my appointment months in advance, called to confirm a month before the wedding & they had no record of the booking - we went through all the details again, then a week later I got yet another call to confirm, then another one a week later - each time with slightly confused/incorrect details. I faxed schedules numerous times & eventually it got worked out but it did seem to take more effort than it should have for a place with such a great reputation. On the wedding day, all our hair looked gorgeous but all the hair staff were running late even though they'd demanded we arrive early because they claimed to have appointments right after us - we did get done in time, but it was more rushed than I would have liked. All the time while we were waiting people came over to check on us & see how we were doing, which was very sweet but not very helpful. However, given the superior results I'd definitely recommend them - just book well in advance & make sure to allow plenty of time. Prices are high but in the end I thought worth it.
PROS: Fantastic results
CONS: Staff obsequious but unhelpful; high prices; disorganization

Not worth the price
Very expensive, decent cut and color, but definately not worth the exorbitant prices. Overall vibe is snobby, don't expect the colorists or stylists to be friendly.
View from the salon is beautiful.

don't judge a book by it's cover
yes the salon is somewhat older and sometimes and can even be a bit shabby. they are usually busy and may not get you in on time. but oh is it worth it! i have curly, frizzy, coarse thick hair that no one has ever cut appropriately. when it's wet it's curly, but i like to wear it straight--this means my hair is always cut too short. not here. i don't know about any other stylists, but i do know that Assum cuts hair beautifully. so much so that i have been going to him for almost 4 years and now my mother in law and sister in law visit him too. he doesn't bother me and there isn't a lot of chit chat which i like. going to the salon is my escape and i don't want to have to spend it making small talk. i love the shampoo, it makes my scalp tingle and the smell of the aveda products is absolutely wonderful. i can understand this place might put some people off, but i wouldn't go anywhere else, even with the $80 price tag.

Best. Make-up. Ever!!!
I was so happy with my experience at Adolf Biecker that I just wanted to share it with everyone. I've been wearing my make-up the same boring way for years and decided that it was finally time to change it up. I visited the salon and was impressed by the peaceful atmosphere.
Additionally, the aesthetician who did my make- up was WONDERFUL! She has a great eye for color and recommend colors which were not normally in my palette but which ended up looking beautiful. I almost didn't recognize myself when she was finished working her magic. But don't confuse that with using excess product. She just opened my mind to using different, more flattering shades which drew attention to my eyes and lips.
Thank you, Rachel for helping me to recognize and highlight my best features. You have changed my life!!
P.S. I've already received tons of compliments from my friends and have recommended that they come in to see you, so get ready!!

My brows (and bikini area) look fab--and so does my makeup!
I'm not one to reveal beauty secrets, but if I were, I'd so write about a certain aesthetician at this place, who is becoming the absolute go-to person for every woman in my Rittenhouse-area office of well-heeled women. She's a whiz with the wax (buh-bye stragglers!). What's more, ever since she did my makeup for one of those you-gotta-look-fabulous media events, I've been copying her methods and getting a wealth of compliments. Fine. I'll tell you who it is. It's Rachel. She is fan-tastic.
Pros: Late hours every day of the week, marvelous neighborhood, all-in-one services

Consistently great haircuts and service
I started going to Adolf Biecker when I met one of their stylists and he suggested I come to the salon to try it out three years ago. I am so glad that I did! The salon is run like clockwork. I have very rarely waited past my appointment time, and never by more than five minutes. Even if my stylist is running late with another client, she always comes over to talk to me about what I want done and sets me up to get shampooed while she finishes up her last client. The salon also smells so clean with all of the Aveda products that they use, and the view over Rittenhouse Square is gorgeous. I have gone to three stylists depending on who is available when I make my appointment, Jenn, Tina and recently Stephanie, and I have been really happy with all three. All of the stylists do great work and are very efficient. The staff work hard to make sure every client leaves happy. I have also used the spa services at the salon, and the spa is just as well run and professional as the salon. I definitely recommend both. The salon can be expensive, but I have made the mistake of going to cheaper salons and they never measure up. The extra $25 is worth it for the professional and courteous way people are treated at Adolf Biecker.
Pros: Great service, beautiful view, nice salon, consistently great cuts
Cons: A little pricey

Best haircut and style
I had my hair cut by Ashley and I just love it. And to top it off, while I was getting my hair done I noticed in the mirror two familiar faces and I realized it's Demi Moore and Parker Posey. behind me So if it wasn't enough that my hair looks great, I was also pleasantly surprised. This haircut was just the change I was looking for and I feel great, Thank you, Ashley. I'll be seeing you soon.
