9 pm reservations, seated at 9:35pm. Salad was great, appetizer was great, main entree horrible - bland, room temp. Not good experience at all. To make matters worst, the waiter added a tip to my credit card even after we left a cash tip.

Bellini Grill was a TERRIBLE experience. There were several people there with BOXES of wine and JUGS of wine; engaging in what appeared to be under age drinking. Upon arrival, our table was not ready and the owner/manager was terribly

The 6 of us arrived on time. Four entered the restaurant and I remained at an outside table with my smoking friend. A gentleman came out immediately with an ashtray and 2 wine glasses (I guess he noticed the bottle). We did begin our evening in the more than perfect weather and then joined the others inside. We all ordered different dishes and one was better than the next. I tasted a fabulous Caesar salad, gnocchi that were to die for (I chose the white sauce), Veal with crabmeat came with grilled to perfection veggies, Chicken & veal saltimbucca, chicken parm. and homemade pasta. The service could not have been better. We parked around the corner for $8, which was footsteps away from the restaurant. I had such a great experience that I cannot wait to go back!

The food was amazing! A friend and I split two entrees: Papardelle Chicken Porchini and Chicken Parm. The waiter, Rick, was the best. We were there for a bachelorette party dinner and he was so great to us and we had a great time talking to him. Definately go here!

I went on a busy Saturday night around 9. Was seated soon enough and my food came within an acceptable time. The portion however was VERY small compared to other Italian byob's. I had the penne Bellini. The sauce was good but the peas were hardly cooked and crunchy. For the prosucitti there was tiny specks in the dish which were barely visible or tasteable. The waitress was not very friendly but did her job. The friendliest face I saw all night was the Mexican bus boy who filled my water.

It turns out that a 4-5oz latte costs $4.35. Even Starbucks does better than that.

The food is decent but given the high prices and sub par service there are many better options in the city.

The food was good. It is a very good location. For a byob it was not too noisy or cramped. We had a 6:15 reservation on a saturday and were sat immediately, as we were leaving there was a wait, so go early.

The bread was also good, however I would like for it to been warm and the butter soft, it was hard like they had just taken it out of the freezer. The place is very nice and our waiter was very personable. I went there last night for restaurant week with my bff, I got the cabrese salad, it was good and the calamari was good, although the pieces were small. I got the fettuccini shrimp salad, seasoned well and Creme Brulet for desert it was good also. I would recommend this restaurant to others as I will be going there again. Parking is right around the corner on Chancellor Street which is conveniant, I also like that its a BYOB.

Me and my boyfriend went to this restaurant during the last restaurant week. we love italian food though there are tons of great italian places in the city we thought lets give it a try. the staff was very friendly and attentive. When our appetizers they were good. I got the grilled calamari and it was very similar to Spasso's which is another ne of our favorite italian places here. My boyfriend got the escargot and he said it was pretty good but not spectacular. We were excited thinking we found another great place to eat, thinking that our entrees would be great! When our entrees came and we tasted them we were so disappointed. they were incredibly bland. i got the Zuppa Di Pesce in a white wine garlic sauce and i could not taste white wine and i could not taste any garlic. i can't taste garlic in italian food??? also the seafood was WAY over cooked and very very tough. i can't remember what my boyfriend got now but he was not happy with it and complained out it being flavorless. i have to say we will not be going here again when there are so many better places. if you are thinking about going here you should try Spasso!

This is the first time I have a ever posted a review and unfortunately it has to be a negative one. A group of friends and I had a reservation for dinner for my baclorette party. Every thing was great and everybody was having a great time when the chef came over. He came to our table and inquired on how our food was, everybody responded that it was delicious. He then advised us to keep down our voices as people had complained about us. He even went as far to say that it was nice establishment as if to infer that we did not know how to conduct ourselves.

The problem with this was that we were not being too loud and it isn't that nice of a place.

If we had been too loud it he could have handled it better or more discreeetly. It was incredably uncomfortable and we left right away. But not before paying a 20% gratuity that was automatically added to the bill. It was very frustrating to not be able to express our discomfort either monetarily or throught the staff.

I felt terrible about this incident and even started second guessing myself that perhaps we had somehow been out of line until I read all the negative reviews on this site all of which mentioned rudeness as the main reason for their distress.

I will not be back here ever again, and there are plenty of delicious and gracious italian byob's in the city.

MY WIFE AND I DINE AT BELLINI GRILL 40 TO 50 TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR. THE SPECIALS ARE ALWAYS FRESH AND NOT OVER PRICED. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. THE SAME FRIENDLY SERVERS HAVE BEEN THEIR FOR A LONG TIME AND JIMMY ALWAYS WALKS AROUND TALKING MORE TO THE NEW CUSTOMERS AND THE REGULARS. THE HOMEADE PASTA DISHES REMIND ME OF MY GRANDMOTHER ROLLING HER OWN DOUGH. ANOTHER BIG PLUS IS IT IS A BYOB. THE FRESH HOMEMADE DESSERTS ARE GREAT FOR AFTER THE THEATER.

I discovered this restaurant through City Paper. It had very favorable reviews so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try. This was one of the biggest dinning mistakes we have ever made. Not only was the restaurant decor COMPLETELY different than the website pictures (it was in a very cramped space), my beau and I were very uncomfortable from the stares we receieved from the other patrons and the staff. I decided that this may have been because we are African-American (but after reading these others reviews, maybe it wasn't...but I'm sure our skin color did play a major part). The manager of the Bellini seemed to be very friendly to the other diners. However, when approaching my boyfriend and I at the door, he looked confused and told us that we wouldn't be able to get seating because the restaurant was booked for the night (FYI: we watched walk-ins be seated). He almost fainted when we told him that we had reservations. He then asked us how we HEARD about the restaurant. When I responded "City Paper" he made a face and walked away. My boyfriend and I stood for nearly a half hour and waited to be seated even though we had reservations and had arrived on time. During this half hour, we watched others with reservations AFTER OURS get seated and we watched walk-ins get seated. The servers looked annoyed by our presence and the manager walked by us several times without glancing at us, apologizing for not seating us, or even explaining why he didn't seat us. After being fed-up, embarrassed and frustrated for paying for garage parking, we left.

Not once did I hear the manager ask anyone ELSE how they had heard of the restaurant.

I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone and I was very dissapointed at my experience.

LOVED the Bellini Grill. My sister came in town to visit, and I wanted to give her a taste of the Philly BYO scene, so I decided on Bellini. GREAT decision! The atmosphere was very casual, the food was fresh, and the waitress was fabulous. There were three of us and three bottles of wine (which would really p-ed off some restaurants/ servers), and we were served our food and had our wine opened promtly and with a smile! It was a great experience. Obnoxious clearly under-age group of kids near us though. Only other complaint - My sisters shrimp (fra diavlo) was slightly rubbery and overcooked.

I often frequent Philadelphia restaurants with large parties. I made a reservation 1 month in advance for a party of 12 adults. I was sure to ask if large parties were welcome and if they could be accomodated comfortably. I was assured that large parties were welcome and I even helped by choosing a limited menu as to not overwhelm the staff.
After arriving on time for our reservation, we were made to wait for 1 hour in front of the bathrooms while other patrons were seated. The staff was extremely rude and acted as if our large party was an inconvenience. We waited quietly and patiently for an hour (in front of the bathrooms) until we were UNgraciously seated at a table that did not seat us comfortably and encroached on other guests.
As soon as we were seated, we were told that we could not make any noise. We hadn't even had a chance to relax yet and we were already being told "the rules" of the restaurant. Throughout the meal, the servers were rude and unfriendly. At no time were we made comfortable and were never allowed to enjoy ourselves.
Large parties watch out! There are a number of other Italian BYO Italian restaurants in the city that are wonderful who go above and beyond to please their customers... especially when they dine in large groups!

I went there on the first night of Restaurant Week. I wish I had checked these reviews earlier, because all of the bad stuff about this place WAS TRUE!! The decor sucked. We waited a very long time for our salad, then the appetizers. When we said something to the waiter he said, "It's not my fault. bla bla bla I hope this doesn't affect my tip." Yes, really. We got our entre BEFORE our appetizer. They came out a little after the entre, so there was not a lot of room on the table. My pasta was a bit chewy and under cooked. Later, I ordered the chocolate mousse for dessert. I asked them to put it in a To Go box, but bring a fork so that I can taste it. They bring it out MELTED!! We spoke to the waiter to tell him that that was unacceptable and he told us, "That's how it looks when its melted." How does it melt from the kitchen to the table and why would I or anyone else want to accept and pay for a melted dessert? Does that make sense? Then we ask for the bill, which included 20% gratuity. There were only 4 people in our party and no where on the menu or any other printed materials did we see that we would automatically be charged the gratuity, which is not right. He tells us that everyone is being charged the 20% and starts pulling out receipts because he thought we were accusing him of lying. We asked that a bill be reprinted without the gratuity, (doesn't hurt to try).

The whole point of Restaurant Week is to introduce your restaurant to people who have never been there or who would normally overlook it, in hopes that they would enjoy, come back, and tell their friends. In this case, I am telling EVERYONE how poor the service is and how horrible that place is. The people who gave it bad reviews are not lying nor are these isolated incidents. It seems to occur pretty frequently. Why take the chance if you are spending $60+ for dinner. Go somewhere with a proven record for good food and great service, because this joint isn't it!

We have been regular customers since Bellini Grill opened. The home made pasta keeps me coming back. The seafood is excellent as well as all the Italian specialties.

The owner knows us when we come and stops by to say hello. Very friendly place, great food at reasonable prices.

I very rarely write reviews because I feel that sometimes restaurants deserve a second chance. Well this place got a second chance (not by choice) and it was worse than even the first.

1. most rude service anywhere in philly; they treat you like they don't want you to come back - verbal incidents, long time until food arrived, you name it

2. food is a 2 out of 10

3. ambience is a 3 out of 10

I could go on about the details, but basically: Don't eat here and I hope if enough people don't they close down, because almost everyone I know who has eaten here has been treated extremely poorly and served poor food.

My husband and I stopped here for dinner one night on a visit to Philadelphia. We thought the food was very good; the gnocchi (me) and pasta (my husband) were both cooked nicely, and the sauces were flavorful. The green salad was somewhat boring, but nicely executed. Even the bread was pretty good. I docked this place 2 stars for two reasons: first, the waitstaff stood around complaining about some customers who had just left, right out in the open, right where everyone could see & hear them. People, please: save this for the breakroom or the kitchen, I don't want to hear you complain about other customers while I'm eating. Second, the food came a lot faster than we would have liked, making the experience feel rushed. Considering the style of restaurant, price points, and the fact that there were empty tables, they should not have been rushing to get people out the door. Improve the service & train the waitstaff in basic manners, and this will be a great place to eat Italian.

I went to Bellini's after a friend recommended it to me. Needless to say, he and I are friends no longer. The first problem with this restaurant confronts you as soon as you walk in - a truly terrible faux fresco depicting what I can only assume is the 'old country' of tuscany. One can only assume that the owner felt he needed to emphasise the fact that his establishment serves authentic Italian cuisine - lest one forget. The food itself is not bad, on the whole, however it is the manner in which the wait staff conduct themselves that is truly shocking. We arrived bringing a birthday cake for our friend, and this clearly insulted them. After all, who brings their own to a BYO? After a round or two of drinks, I and two of my friends asked for fresh glasses as we didn't want to mix white and red. We were abruptly told that they would charge us $2.00 per person per glass. When I inquired as to the reason, I was talked down to like I was a misbehaved schoolboy being reprimanded by a victorian schoolteacher. Needless to say, we refused to pay this ridiculous fee, as we felt that the *least* a BYO can do is give you glasses on the house. To top it off, the manager actually came over to me later to tell me no not 'damage' his chairs by leaning back slightly. At that point we simply got up and left, and on my way out I told him frankly that I'd never been treated to poorly at any restaurant and I would never be coming back. His reply was so characteristic of those who forget that they work in the service industry for tips - he replied, "I don't care about you." Unfortunately, since they automatically charged us a whopping 20% gratuity for our table of nine, I couldn't have my say by leaving a poor tip. Just astonishing.

Pros: Food is decent

Cons: Horrible service, crummy art, manager has stick up @$$

.

I'm generally a easily pleasable person and I've never written a bad restaurant review in my life but the service at this place was NOT ACCEPTABLE. I was leaning back on my chair and the owner comes to me and says not to damage the chair in a demanding way. He could have asked me in a nicer way and I was surprised at first but I was OK with that. Now I was just sitting there and he comes to me again tells me not to lean on my chair. At this point I was speechless. I was just sitting there. "What are you talking about?! I am just sitting here!" I argued. Now he asks me to leave for raising my voice. I was flabbergasted. Of course I left and will never return.

Cons: Terrible Service. Rude! Rude! Rude!

We stumbled upon Bellini Grill by accident and we were SHOCKED to see the reviews listed here afterwards. We are very critical when it comes to moderate / upscale dining and find it hard to believe some of the negative things written here about this diamond in the rough. We were given excellent, careful, knowledgeable service which was followed by great food (homemade lobster ravioli and corvina fish in lemon and white wine sauce, grilled calamari). I noticed a particular attention to detail on every dish so I can only imagine large parties would not have the same experience that the three of us had. We travel often and are in the travel industry giving us many years of dining experience to compare this to. We did not sense any rushing or rudeness. It has the classic resemblance to European restaurants and dining which contradicts the reviews here. Europeans do not rush anything and meals are taken seriously and are a time of fellowship. Wait staff was courteous and they had knowledge of their product a huge plus for us. Not mechanical in nature at all. Prices were reasonable for the quality (average $25-30 entrees) As far as taking a long time to receive your meal...you get what you pay for. Homemade perfection!
Limited bar-wine only so BYOB
Casual dress
Would not be first choice for kids
-Enjoy!

Pros: homemade treats, fresh fish, not a chain! and they take credit cards!

Cons: parking-it's philly! might not suggest for large groups

So I originally had a reservation on a Friday night at 9, I called that afternoon to push it to 9:30 and they said okay... I got there at 9:30 and had to wait a few minutes for the other people in my party (mind you, the restaurant was COMPLETELY empty for all but 2 other tables) -- while waiting for everyone else, the manager came over to me to complain that my party was late and I already pushed my reservation back a half-hour. He said they close at 11, and we needed to hurry up and order. No wonder why no one was there on a Friday night! The food is bad, the service is worse, and the management has their priorities ALL screwed up! Would you rather actually fill some tables? Or make sure you can close your kitchen exactly at 11? Not to mention we were basically kicked out of the place as soon as the clock struck 11. Good luck if you decide to dine at Bellini Grill. Worst restaurant in Philadelphia, hands down.

I have eaten at Bellini Grill on more than one occasion. The food is very good and they had a live piano player when I went on a Friday night. Even on a Friday night, it's not too crowded there. This could be because the service isn't the best. It's a great place to go if you're not in a rush, but when they want you out, you can definitely tell because it seems like they swarm. If you can ignore that and just enjoy the food, this may be a good choice for you!

My friends and I went to Bellini Grill last night for restaurant week. The food was OK, not great or anything. I had the salmon and it was a bit overcooked, my friends were not particularly impressed with their meals either (the grilled sausage and the veal and crabmeat). The best part of the meal was the coffee, which we had to ask for (it's supposed to be part of the restaurant week meal), and mine was only half full. What stood out most about our dining experience at Bellini Grill was the horrible service. Our server completely ignored us. The restaurant week menu said that they offered pasta as part of the meal, but our server told us that was not true. When we added up what our meals would have cost it was actually less than the $30 each we paid for the restaurant week, what a rip off. We had to ask for our 2nd bottle of wine to be opened (the other bottle had been empty and we had all finished our glasses over 10 minutes before a server was anywhere near us); the server uncorked the bottle and slammed it on the table w/o pouring any of our glasses (let alone getting us fresh ones!). The waitress was rushing us the whole time and tried to take our check before we had all put in money. We were the last ones out (it wasn't even 11PM) and really the LAST ones out, the servers and everyone had left, I felt like we should have locked the place up on our way out. So while the food was ok, the bargain didn't exist and the service was horrible. Do not come here... if you want good Italian food I'd recommend Gioia Mia or the other BYOB between 20th-21st on Sansom.

I have been dining t Bellini Grill since it opened several years ago, and I have always been treated to a great meal-- personalized to my taste! (This says a lot, I'm picky!) I have been there with my family (7 people, 5 of them teens or young adults). I have been there with my friends all of us 20-somethings. We were always treated to the same warm welcome, excellent service and meals that keep us coming back (save room for dessert). No matter how busy Bellini's is, I have never been rushed, and I have never left without a hello from either Jimmy or Julia, owners of the resteraunt who are there every night. (Jimmy is also a chef, who sometimes accompanies his meals to your table to make sure you are happy with them...) Great food, great service, warm atmosphere at a reasonable price... Bellini's has it all.

They had a great fresh fish of the day (Sole) which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. It had a great presentation where it was de-boned at the table. The service was excellent and prompt. The ambiance was a bit loud but festive. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a good bagain.

I think Bellini is priced rather well for its location. The quality of the food is good as well as the selection although after eating there 4 times, twice my meal was douced in salt (I order the same thing each time I go). I think it is a bit tight in the venue however. I think party sizes should definitely be limited. I was there once when a party of at least 25 were squeezed by the door- and they were so loud that my friend and I could not even hear each other having a conversation.

The worst restaurant.

"You'll have to order everything right now. We need the table."

"Are you finished?"
"Are you finished?"
"Are you fiinished?" (Servers came up to us 18 times to try to take the full plates away, beginning three minutes after we were served).

"Why are we picking up your table and moving it in the middle of your meal? We want to put another party back there."

Chef runs out of kitchen to our table, pounds his hand on it, and announces to a room full of terrified diners "Wonderful dinner! Three hours!" (We'd reserved the table for 6 pm; it was now 7:10 pm).

Not surprised to read many other reviews reporting similar rudeness, but surprised that one person said they were treated like royalty. If we were treated like royalty, it was like Nicholas and Alexandra were treated in the Russian revolution. Please go elsewhere. Please.

Bellini Grill is like a private club where you are treated like royalty. The ambience is warm and friendly. The owners, Jim and Julia, make us feel like we are family, not customers. The food is fabulous; in two years we've never had a bad meal. If we want something not on the menu, Jimmy will go back to the kitchen and make it from scratch. Anything we ask for. We can afford to eat at any restaurant, including Le Bec Fin, but we'd prefer a romantic table against the window at Bellini most Friday nights. We have our family parties here too (which isn't easy given the picky eating habits of five teenagers). The "kids" love Jimmy and Julia and 16 month old son Arjon. Jim knows what each kid's interests are and talks to each one personally. BYOB makes this the city's best romantic dinner bargain.

With a reseveration and only one other table occupied in the whole restaurant, our meal took almost an hour to arrive. We ordered six different entrees, only 1 person could say that it their food was not bad. The 5 others were terribly overcooked and poorly seasoned. When the other table's food arrived (some sort of seafood medley) we had to leave the restaurant because the smell was so overwhelmingly bad (not a sign of good fish to say the least!).
Enter at your own risk....it's BAD!!!!

More of a miss! The inside is roomy and the food is good for the low prices. The service is the main flaw. On my first visit, the staff was very welcoming and friendly which caused me to return two more times and I also recommended it to 5 others who have dined there since. The friendly service from the owners has officially left the building....during my last two visits the owners/servers seemed annoyed to be there, their son was rummaging through customers bags, orders were wrong or overcooked, etc. One of the people I recommended this place to made reservations and was told when they arrived that a private party was being held inside and that their only choice was to sit at the one table outside in the heat and eat...needless to say they won't be returning and neither will myself or anyone I have recommended it to.

We had a birthday dinner that I made reservations for a week in advance and the during dinner, the chef came up to the table and informed us that we had to eat quickly because he had a group of 20 coming in and needed the table. That is honestly the rudest comment that I have ever heard in a restaurant. Its not my fault you don't know how to book reservations in a timely manner. Honestly, after that, the whole night was ruined, everyone was in a bad mood and we definately took our time eating. The food was ok, but not worth putting up with the rudeness for.

Friday night at 8 in the heart of center city . . . you'd think the place would be packed but it was more than half empty. That might have been why our waiter, the owner of the place, kept asking to make sure we didn't want more than just an entre. That was only a little annoying, though, in reality. The food was perfectly fine, nothing stunning, but certainly done right. We both got pasta, the pesto and shrimp linguini and the gorgonzola gnocchi. What made me never want to go back was my custom order. I asked to add two links of sausage to the gnocchi and my entre price jumped from 11$ to $18.50, unbeknownst to me until we got the bill. For two links of freaking sausage. Come on. Never going back there.

We went for Valentine's Day and were treated like royalty. The servers go out of their way to make you feel like special customers, including singing to you and offering special treats. Our meals were delicious. A BYOB, it is a great value for your dollar.

The kind of place where the owner and staff do ANYTHING to make customers happy, from offering wine a glass of free wine if you forgot yours, to treating you as if you went there every day.
Jimmy, the owner, overseas every plate coming out and sees each plate as an art piece. What a charming place! Great value too!
