I went to Jonathan Wiliams..he's now working at Wil-O Design Studio in Cranston, RI. I'm the guy with cowl icky -- bushy -- too much i don't know what to do with it hair. Some how Jonathan managed to tame it all down to a style which is exactly what I wanted. I have a terrible time finding the right stylist because of all the cowlicks but also because I've never been very good at explaining what it is i want. Jonathan was so helpful and just by asking me what I did and didn't like about my hair he was able to give me a cut that's easy to maintain and looks hot. It took an hour to get there from where I live but it was worth every mile.

I went to Marc Harris with a vague idea of what I wanted to do with my hair. I had checked out the website ahead of time and looked at all of the bios of the stylists so I could choose one I thought would work well with me. My stylist, Kristy Lee, really listened to my ideas and then transformed those ideas into a perfect haricut. I was incredibly happy with the results. An added bonus is that the space the salon is in is beautifully cool. I felt like I was living back in New York City.

The first time I went I got a fabulous cut from Tara - really great. I had that cut for months and it grew in beautifully. I got tons of compliments on it and I I felt great in it. But she left, and Lumiere refused to tell me where she went trying to force me to make another appointment with them, which I did b/c I really needed a cut. I got their senior stylist, being reassured that she was just as good and I would get the same kind of cut. The receptionist actually acted a little insulted that I was skeptical. Well, it turns out I was skeptical for a good reason - the second haircut I got is crap. It's been two weeks and I have to have it re-cut somewhere else. The stylist just did not listen to me at all. And the bottom line is the cut itself is awful. It looks terrible. If I could style it every day like she did, ok it would be great. But I can't seem to style it the same way at all, and I told her I didn't style my hair everyday and needed a cut I could let air dry (I have a short bob) - this has worked for me for years. The cut has no style, no flair, does not compliment my face or features and actually makes me look worse than I did!!! Watch out! The salon is beautiful, but the stylists are not so great. The only good one they had left! And that makes me wonder what they did to make her leave - since she was all they really had going for them. I guess if you can't tell the difference between a really good cut and an ordinary one, then Ok, but I can, and for the way they bill themselves it just doesn't add up. They would do well to invest in their stylists the same way they did in the design of their salon. I would have paid anything to get that first haircut again.

I love Lumiere Salon -- they bill themselves as a NY-style salon, and it's true. The decor is great and award winning, but more importantly, the stylists are professional, well-trained and experienced. I do admit that I also love the complimentary chocolates and cappucino while I'm waiting to be shampooed, or sitting under the dryer.

With dedicated hairstylists and colorists, you don't end up at the mercy of someone who knows a lttle bit about a lot -- the staff here are experts at what they do.

The only thing I don't like: free parking is virtually impossible to find, and the lot across the street only takes cash. Also, the salon does charge NYC prices, so it's not cheap -- but in my mind, well worth it.

I paid a fortune for a hair cut and color treatment here and was sadly dissapointed. I told the stylist that I wanted a totally new look and gave her free reign. When I left with an empty wallet, NO ONE, including me, noticed a change!

I recently called "Marc Harris Salon" in Providence and to my surprise they were closed down. So I say, "What happened to all the employees". It is pretty SAD that they only gave out the information for a few of employees. I am a client of Jonathan and Melanie. He cuts my hair and Melanie colors it. I am disappointed that there information was not on the answering machine as the others. How UNPROFESSIONAL is that! Luckily I found where they are. WIL.O DESIGN STUDIO at 935 PARK AVE. CRANSTON RI. 401.865.6011. I also see that 2 other girls are there as well, The receptionist Ashley, and the other stylist Allison. I hope this can help anyone else who are looking for them.

I visited Salon Marc Harris Providence recently for the first time. Ive visited the salon on Newbury and was not thrilled about the cut I recieved in Boston, the salon was clean and classy so...being in Providence I expected the same. As soon as I walked in i was quite taken by how dingy the salon looked, it was covered wall to wall with streaky mirrors, one of the stations mirrors was cracked corner to corner!, and a huge one high on the wall was patched with tape(quite dangerous!) A half hour later Jonathan came over to talk to me, stunk like smoke and was flirty and creepy. The coverups robe was short sleaved and he did the whole haircut without putting any kind of drape over me. I was covered in hair! I even found it in my purse!. He payed more attention to chatting with people walking in and the cute girls around than he did to my haircut .. for almost $100 haircut, thats insulting. An hour later my hair looked the same! I thought this was a reputable company but its a far cry from its Bostonian reputation :(

So, I am not from the east coast and I was recommended this salon by a co-worker. I do not mind paying for quality service. I did not get quality. I had a color with highlights and a cut with long layers. Most of the time the stylist did not talk to me, she talked to her co-workers, not that I need continued interaction but, it's just polite to respond when someone is talking to you. When I arrived to the salon I waited 10-15 minutes while she came in late to work because she stopped for coffee. I asked for "subtle" highlights and I got "excessive" highlights. I had hair coloring on my forehead which she did not attempt to remove. I asked her to dry my hair straight and she dried it with big curls. When she cut my hair she did not drape me with a gown so my arms and legs were covered in hair! I asked her if she could get me something to wipe the hair off she had the courage to say "There is a lint roller in the closet (and pointed)!" What was the supposed exceptional name of the stylist....Alyson. I have paid quite a bit in the past for haircuts at Aveda salons and I have never been disappointed. I was beyond disappointed and will never go back.

Pros: Clean and modern

Cons: everything else, customer service, color, haircut, lack of skill

I am so happy to have moved back to RI for color with Kris at Salon Marc Harris. She is not only a talented colorist, but just a cool person. I had gone to her first about a year ago when on school rotations in RI and right away she made my blonde hair perfect. She knows exactly how to make my blonde look shiny and vibrant without making it look fake or overdone. I just came back after being gone for over a year and she had remembered exactly who I was and still had my last coloring recorded! She really cares about her clients and is fun to hang out. The salon itself is great too - very modern and luxurious without any pretentiousness. Very easy to relax in while getting your hair done. Def check out Kris at Marc Harris!

I have been to this salon 3 times now, and my stylist Jonathan is terrific. He always remembers what we talked about at the last visit (i swear he keeps notes!) and our conversation flows through the entire cut. Great cappuchinos too, and their shampoo-ers are fantastic, They deserve way more credit/tips then I am sure they get. The prices are reasonable.. Jonathan charges me $80 per cut and style. I have never had anyone do color there for me though. Great customer service and a fun atmosphere for sure. My negatives would be that I wish stylists there would spend a little more time actually styling your new do after the cut. Most salons will have you leaving like a superstar, where this one, the cut is AMAZING, but I feel I can style is just the same on my own. Isn't the first day of a new style supposed to be the best? They don't use much product either.. Parking is annoying-risk a ticket or pay to park.. but aside from that, I would say you will leave satisfied and feel it was very worth it.

I went to Salon Mark Harris after a recommendation. Although it was not a disaster, for the price you are paying you should leave feeling like a million. On the occasion I went their I have to say I left feeling just ok, not great about the experience. The decor is high end and trendy although minimalism seems to have won out over creature comforts (ie. no tables to rest your beverage or magazines to read in the waiting area.) I can not remember my stylists name, and the haircut he gave me was also not memorable. I went in looking for a change, something creative - I even brought in an inspiration picture. Upon showing him he mumbled something inaudible. I am a pretty trusting person and felt that after I discussed that I wanted something creative and showed him an example he would get it. Not the case, he gave me a boring haircut that was pretty much the cookie cutter long layer cut he probably gave 10 times that day. I have to say...HE IN NO WAY MADE ME LOOK BAD, this was a technically good cut, I even got compliments. However when you go in expecting a change and you wind up with the same old, same old its a bit frustrating. In all fairness I should have said something but I felt slightly intimidated for some reason. This would be a good place to go if you are looking for a safe bet and nothing too different.

I have tried many salons in Providence and I have to say I got the best cut and color at Salon Marc Harris. I highly recommend Steven Doherty - he made the experience fun and he knew exactly what to do with my hair. It is a little pricey - but well worth it.

I just want to say that Salon Marc Harris is the most professional salon in Providence. The staff there are extremely friendly and professional. Every experience I have had there by far is the best. This salon deserves the "Best of " every year. The creativity by Jonathan is superb to no other. His skill is precise and professional and can execute an amazing cut to suite anyone. I must also inquire about Marc Harris himself. This man is so talented from what I can see while getting my hair cut. He is so full of energy and confidence. And last but not least the receptionist Tiffany is so willing to accomadate the customer and make their life easier when booking appointments. I think Salon Marc Harris is the best thing that has come to providence in a very long, long time. Thank you Salon Marc Harris.

I have been going to salon Marc Harris since it took over the former Lumiere last spring. I was also I client of the rather reputable Lumiere where I still see the same stylist , Christy Lee under the new ownership. I I see her for cut and color and so do two other women in my office. I couldn`t be happier with my services and was appaulled at the explicite attack on my salon and my stylist. Being in the service industry myself I know it is impossible to please everyone, some are more difficult than others! I myself change my hairstyle seasonally and I am always satisfied with my alterations! Christy is very explanitory and exueds experience. I would recommend Salon Marc Harris in Providence to anyone to try! All the stylists in there are always pleasant and from my observations very talented. I travel alot and visit many salons for treatments and blowouts in my travels. I recently visited Salon Marc Harris in Boston which I found to be just as humble as Providence. An upscale/humble atmosphere is hard to come by!

Originally my hair was light brown with ash blonde highlights. I was scheduled with Christy Lee for a partial foil/haircut. I showed her a picture of Jessica Simpson. I specifically stated that I wanted ash shades of blonde - not "brassy" warm tones. Bleach was left on my hair for an 1hr and 40 mins. My scalp was burning - she told me that was normal. At the end, when I looked in the mirror I wanted to cry! I literally felt sick to my stomach. She had stripped my color and toned it reddish-orange, my eyebrows were non-existing (bleached), and my scalp was irritated. I told her I was unhappy with the results-she angrily responded "I did what you wanted. It's not my fault you don't like it". I told her that it looked NOTHING like the picture! Here's the thing-All of my coloring was bleached out and I didn?t even look ?normal?. Christy told me she did not have time to fix it (even though we had skipped my haircut). I asked for any stylist to fix it because I was too embarrassed to leave. I was forced to pay and leave the salon without any help. I called later-Jonathon (manager) was supposed to return my call-never did-when I called back I was told ?he left for the day?. I expected more from a ?supposedly? high-end salon . I called Salon Marc Harris in Boston and was offered to go back to Christy (wouldn?t let her groom my dog) or go to Boston-Janet (wonderful) who did her very best to fix my hair (took 3 hours-I had to pay full price). If a stylist has difficulty listening to a client (even with a picture!), is confused about warm/cool tones, and refuses to help--it?s a sign of incompetence. I?m extremely disappointed by the services provided and the way I was treated. I have yet to speak with a manager (regardless of my attempts) or receive compensation (I was told I would be refunded). Other stylists agreed that the orange color and bleached eyebrows did not look "normal". You can imagine the damage to my hair, the embarrassment, time & money this cost me.

i went to salon marc harris after reading a review here on citysearch, and it was worth every penny. i got my hair done by alyson, and it is the best coloring job i've ever had. the entire staff was so kind and welcoming, and yet the atmosphere was very sophisticated and professional. i was having a hard time settling on a salon in the providence area, and now i can say the search is over! i am definitely going back.

I don't normally write reviews and that is probably because very rarely do I find a service this good that makes me want to tell the world. I have difficult hair to cut and have been to many top quality stylists .But never has anyone cut my hair like this. I LOVE my hair again. Alyson does a standout job with my color and Jonathan does the cuts. He is precise, focused, and driven to make sure his cuts are the very best for me. As a manager, he is focused and attentive to everyone's needs. The Salon is hip but not pretentious. I pay a bit more than the other salons I have been to, but I have never been happier which is priceless. My haircut looks like it came from a page in a magazine and no one so far can touch his skill.

I've been going to Salon Marc Harris since its opening and it has the look and feel of a hip, urban hair salon without the usual unfriendly staff or vibe you usually find at trendy salons. I see Christy Lee every time and she is fantastic - always knows what will look best on me with my cut and color and better yet knows exactly what she's doing! I recommend the salon if you are looking for the perfect mix of a friendly, chic place that has experiended staff who are up on all the latest trends. They also now have validated parking available in a garage right next door which is helpful because they are located downtown where parking can sometimes be difficult to find.

Very professional salon. Great addition to downtown Providence. The salon itself is also very cool. You also have the opportunity to do a little shopping in nearby stores that offer something a little differenct from the usual mall offerings.

Pros: Has the feel of a big city salon.

Cons: Parking can be a little tricky if you don't know the area but it's worth the effort.

Under previous ownership, at least stylists showed up for appointments. Hesitant to head back under the new MH name after a friend had a recent bad experience with a colorist, I booked an appointment out of convenience, only to be stood up. Unfortunately, the salon did tell me that my appt was in the system, but was not able to offer anything other than a 'sorry' as I walked out the door. Having relocated from Manhattan, where competition drives skill and customer service... it is so sad that Providence cannot maintain an upper echelon salon. Someone from MH Boston better head south and reign in the business, clearly what is happening here is bad for the local customers downtown, not to mention the MH brand.

Yikes, I just read the "overpriced" review and can't believe we were at the same salon! I found the people at Salon Marc Harris to be friendlier than many other salons I've been to. I've been trying to find a stylist I really like since mine left the area and have bounced around to different places. But I found my guy! I went to Jonathan Williams and he is fantastic. I'm a low-maintenance hair girl and he gave me a cut that I love and is easy to take care of. I have received a ton of compliments from family, friends and co-workers and I tell them all about Jonathan at Salon Marc Harris.

I went to Salon Marc Harris for the first time recently and loved it. I work downtown, so the location is perfect for me, but more importantly I loved the cut and the stylist. She was friendly, knew what she was doing and explained why she thought a different cut would work better for me. She was right! I haven't walked out of a salon and been that happy with my cut and color in a really long time. Two thumbs up!

I visited Salon Marc Harris a week ago for a haircut. I can't tell you how many compliments I have gotten about my hair. It was the best hair cut I have ever had. The staff there is very professional. I look forward to my next visit to the salon. I truly intend to recommend everyone I know. Keep up the good work guy's. It is really nice to know there is still a friendly place to go and get your hair done. This salon gets my vote for Best of RI.

Pros: Parking, Availability, Convience

I arrived for my appointment with an alleged "senior stylist" on time, but I had to
wait over a half hour to get in the chair. There was no compensation (i.e., discounted
haircut price, complementary product etc...) offered for my inconvenience. The cut
was technically inferior. I could have received the same cut, or probably a better cut, at a far less expensive salon. This salon charges prices comparable to NY, Chicago, and Boston...without the talent or sophistication of the aforementioned cities. Take your money to Boston or NY. This salon will not succeed based on the talent and prices. The owner should have studied the financial demographics of RI a little more carefully before coming up with these prices...Eddy St will NEVER be Newberry St, Michigan Ave, or 5th Ave! Disappointment!
