I stopped in here with my wife during a recent trip to Newport and it was the highlight of our day. We drank some fantastic wines and took a tour which I thought was more informative than any other winery tour I could remember (and we've been to a lot of wineries over the years). The vineyards were pristine and beautiful and the tour guide did a great job of explaining the whole winemaking process. My wife loved the "In the Buff" chardonnay, which is all stainless steel fermented (no barrel aging). It was fruity and refreshing and we knew it would be the perfect match for the oysters and lobster we bought at Anthony's seafood on the way to the winery. My favorites were the Vintners Select Riesling and a blend called Tranquility, which had a great floral nose to it and a nice balance of fruit and acidity. Landot Noir, which we had never heard of before coming here, was our favorite of the reds, but the merlot was a close second. Our final purchase was the Vidal Ice wine, which was a ridiculously delicious dessert wine with intense flavors of apricots and apple. We picked up a gourmet chocolate cake at Fatulli's Bakery (right next door to the winery), which we knew would be the perfect match for the ice wine.
I definitely recommend Newport Vineyards as a must see destination to anyone visiting Rhode Island. We even joined their case club, which gives us lifetime discounts on case purchases and free admission to the multiple food and wine events they have throughout the year.

Covenient location not too far out of Newport and easy to find. Lots of wine related goodies and accessories to purchase, beautifu property, helpful workers at a tasting and a casual tour round this day out.

I think it must be something about the climate here, but I prefer reds and I have not been to any winery in the state that produces a good red. Newport's winery was no exception. They ship out a lot of their grapes also which I didn't really like. A winery makes wine right? What's with shipping out the grapes?

Location is good for tourists, you don't have to go far at all. But it's right off the road so you lose that "lost" feeling I've had when touring other vineyards after driving through all sorts of winding roads and fields to get there. I think you lose something when you can walk the vineyards and see cars at the same time.

For a winery on the East Coast, this is a great one to visit. The tour guide was knowledgeable and the tour itself was very thorough and informative. The tasting was very inexpensive and included a wide variety of wines. You even get to keep your etched tasting glasses as a souvenir. This is a great place for a fun date or an afternoon out.

PROS: Lots of wines to taste!
CONS:
