Called up Newport Tire. I had to replace my current tires with ones i had as spares...all the same tire (brand, size, tread pattern etc) Asked if they had the ability to mount 19" tires with a lower profile, (35 series) and apparently we dont have the equipment to get it done. Ive seen them mount 20" low profile tires purchased through them on a friends car (this is why i contacted them) but obviously because i didnt buy the tires from them, they were being a bunch of unionized d*ckheads who had no leverage to swindle another prospective customer. When asked if they knew of another place that would be able to complete this service, they had no idea. right then and there i knew they see every other tire company as competition while their competition doesnt see Newport tire as a competitor. I wouldnt recommend Newport Tire to anyone...Even though I hate Town Fair i cannot wait to see them wipe Neport Tire out of business. i never write reviews, i just couldnt hold back this time.

I went to Newport Tire for an alignment after I had to replace all my tires (which was done at another shop). While I found the customer service to be fine, the alignment ended up being awful and ruined my brand new rear tires in less than a year. After going to another shop to fix the alignment they informed me this was one of the worst alignments they had ever seen! They even suggested that I ask whoever did the original alignment to pay for my new tires because they completely screwed up the alignment. In the long run it ended up costing me over $500 to replace brand new tires and pay for another alignment.

I never even made it in...

I had a blowout last week and have been driving on a spare. Because I am on a budget, I called newport tire to get an estimated idea on what two new tires might cost me. I just needed a general idea, not an exact price. The guy that answered the phone was very curt with me and asked me what type of car I had. I told him. Then he asked me what size tires they took. I said I didn't know, maybe 14 inches. He says he couldn't give me any idea what two 14 inch tires cost. (He ought to know if he works there) The reason I needed a general idea is because I am pregnant and on a tight budget. I wanted to make sure I had enough money before I drove all the way there on my spare. The guy told me that for my car they had about four different sizes of tires and I'd have to bring my car in. I asked if the alignment was included and he said no, it'd be about $68! Ridiculous since I know that most places include the alignment if you buy the tires.

I have decided to go somewhere else. The guy was rude on the phone, I'd hate to see what they're like in person. What a jerk!

I have been going to Newport Tire for years due to their great service. Service is always done properly and on time. I have NEVER experienced anything like what those chronic complainers are crying about. Ernie is by far the best service adviser that I have seen in a long time and the mechanics are great too. Honest friendly repair shops are hard to find and I plan on staying a loyal customer to Newport Tire for those very reasons. Keep up the good work guys and don't let those people bother you.

I was in a situation where I had a broken break line and needed the car repaired that day (Due to air travel the next day). My local shop was willing to work on it not able guaranty they could perform the work that day. If I called in the afternoon, they would make the effort to fit me in if they could.
When I called Newport Tire I explained the requirement for the work to be performed that day. I knew Newport Tire??s reputation for cost and was willing to pay more to have the work done. I had a tentative quote of 300 dollars from a dealership and was expecting about this or slightly higher.
I was told to get the car to them and they would work on it. I hired a tow truck, paid the 20 mile tow. I explained again when the car was dropped off the repairs need to be done that day. This was the only reason I brought the car to this location. I was told I would get a call before 3 to let me know it was done.
At 2:30, I get a call explaining they would not be able to get to it until the next day, and the quote for repair was 550 dollars. When I reminded them the requirement for the repair, and then only reason I paid to have the car towed to them in the first place was for the work to be done today, there was a pause then a reply that the part could not be acquired today. For the record; the repair itself is fairly strait forward, using standard parts available at the local NAPA and Auto Palace. I made sure both places have this in stock prior to posting this review.
I refused this explanation. I called my local shop who now could not work on it due to the late time, and made arrangements for the car to get towed out of Newport Tire. I found other methods of travel to the airport and back while the work was done at the local shop. Total price of local shop repair: 189 dollars.

Cost to me for my lesson dealing with Newport Tire:
65 x 2 for towing (more with tip)
20 dollars they charged me to tell me they failed
50 to airport
85 return from airport
285 total

Add cost of repair at local shop
189 Repaired at local shop
+285 for the Newport Tire experience

Still 76 dollars cheaper than the quote

Gee, same experience as the other posters. Took my car in for an oil change, and they tried hard to sell me that I desperately needed a brake flush, coolant flush, and fuel system clean -- all of which had been done just 5,000 miles earlier when I bought the car certified used! No way they were needed.

The oil change itself was way expensive: I upgraded to synthetic oil, but didn't realize that would add $45 to the price (a way bigger increase than at most garages) -- $75 total!

Note that they have no prices posted, the coupons tell you how much off you'll receive, not the final price. And they ask you to pay and sign the cc slip *before* printing out the itemized bill. I refused and demanded the breakdown, and the guy was rude about it. Sure enough he'd forgotten to enter a $10 discount on the tire rotation, and just brusquely said "Hey, I can't know what all our coupons say". Nor do they specify which synthetic oil they use ($45 extra is too much even for Mobil 1, and some should be a $15 increase at most).

The only problem is, where else do you go on the island? I've been happy with Kent's Alignment for repairs, but they have a 5-10 day wait and aren't cheap (but are honest and skilled). Or there's Jiffy Lube (horror!).

Generally I do all of my car work myself, but in the case of putting new tires on rims I just don't have the equipment. Enter Newport tire. I brought the car in with the tires I bought and they told me it would take 3 hours. They didn't seem that busy, but I figured they had their reasons (I have seen this same job take less than 5 minutes per tire by someone who knows what they are doing). 5 hours later I get a call and they say the car is ready. I drive over there and it is in fact not ready, so I wait for another hour and they finally bring the car around missing the hub covers. I point this out and they said they were already gone when the car arrived (this was most certainly not the case). On top of this, they charged me over $100 more than the quote they gave me to do the work, which I had to pay because they still had my keys. When I finally drove away, my front end was completely out of alignment, which made no sense because all they touched (theoretically) were the lug nuts and rims. I'll never go back there and I suggest no one else does either. Rude, unprofessional and extremely low quality work.

I took my car for an oil, filter, lube job on Nov.24 08. Took about 1/2 hr or so. While I was waiting the man called me up to the counter. He told my that I need extra things to be done. I need the fuel injector clean and a cooling system cleaning. It all came to about 208.00 without a coupon, which I did have for the oil change, the money for the other work, maybe if they run a special I would have it done. I went home and somehow remember that I had some major work done in July. Coolant system flush, new antifreeze,bg coolant flush. Called them back, told them and why did they tell me this.No return call to me. BE CAREFUL OF THE PLACE. GET A SECOND OPINION.

I had the same experience as the other lady. The man at the front desk Ernie Sawyer was the rudiest and the most unfriendly person I have ever spoke to. He makes it you fault why Newport Tire messes things up on your car.

I had tires replaced and when I picked up my car I had an error message on my comuter read out. Went back in and explained and he could care less, helpful at all. After dropping over a thosand dollars his attitude don't bother me let me drink my coffee all day and do nothing.

four brand new tires and not enough air in all my tires. Wouldn't one think to check the pressure of all the tires and make sure they were up to correct specs. Ernie told me to drive and the computer will reprogram. I knew that was wrong but he was so unhelpful that I needed to leave beecause he was so brain dead that he didn't even want to help.

My tires were missing a lug and lug cap missing after going to Newport Tire, Ernie was so unhelpful once again. The company has it in stock the second it come in I will call you. I told him I would be in at 4pm, when I got into Newport Tire the company has it on back order, yesterday in stock today back order.

Ernie do yourself a favor and get another jobl. You are so unfriendly and so unhelpful I almost feel bad for you. LOSER!

After having to set an appt for an oil change and, being a 1st time customer, I dropped my car off at 11:30 and they assured me it would be ready by 3:30. I went to pick it up at close to 4:00 and they had not even touched it! The man at the counter was rude, impolite and defensive! He handed me my key, and the job was never even done! That experience was an absolute joke and I cannot understand why anyone would go there for ANYTHING!

They are so close to us it's amazing to just hop skip and a jump and you are there. We got a discounted service mailer and decided to check it out...but you have to have an appointment.

It can be very difficult to get them on the phone when you want to make an appointment (and it took quite awhile before my husband was able to make one finally), but try at several different times during the day.

No complaints with their service...an oil change is typically an oil change unless someone messes it up, and they did not.
