I had a very comparable experience as the other negative reviews, however I would add that when I went 2 years ago I had to pick 20 pounds minimum and was limited to only Golden Delicious apples. The year after it was 5 pounds per person, which stinks when you are there with small children (as I would think most visitors are). I didn't suffer any racist behavior, but I did feel a very negative attitude from staff in the orchard area. There are a lot of orchards in the area - I strongly encourage anyone reading this to go somewhere, anywhere else.

We are family of 5, 2 adults & 3 young children, ages 3-8. On this nice Sunday, we just want to have some fun for apple picking. Our first choice was Pippin Orchard Farms in Cranston. There was sign telling us minimum 5lbs per person and we inquired if our 3 year old will be charged. They stated the 3 y/o will be charged for the 5lbs apples as that is their rule. However, there was another toddler/pre-schooler was in a stroller but he was free of charge. I happened to question what is the age limit on this 5lbs apples requirement, the person who was handling answered "A child is free of charge as long as he/she is in a stroller. I feel that was unfair, so I replied saying the 2 kids appeared similar in age but the other child is in stroller & mine isn't and my child will get charge for the 5lbs apples no matter what??? Then this clerk question if my child is still in diaper and even asked us to go find a different orchard. I was extremely upset & went to the front of the store and asked a cashier A if the man is the owner of the orchard as I wanted to speak w/ a higher management, then cashier B interrupted and denied the man was the owner and criticized I was being misbehave and I mistreated their employee. Cashier B also made a comment "THIS IS NOT YOUR COUNTRY!!!!" I was extremely upset and told them I do not appreciate the treatment & I will definitely share this experience to the public.
I'm writing to see if there is anywhere I can go to express my feeling & I'm very surprised & disappointed w/ Pippin Orchard farm's reaction and made a very sensitive, rude and racist comment.

Here are my answers to the questions on the right hand side:
1. Hell NO!
2. Rude, racist.
3. No way in this universe!!!
4. ABSOLUTELY...NO WAY!!!
5. Go any other farms...esp JASWELL FARM in Smithfield.

Feel ripped off. Was told there was a 5 lb minimum, so the 2 of us got as close to 10 lb as we could (the scale we were supposed to use to test it out was supposedly off so that 10 lbs weighed as 12.3 lbs). We got to the register, and the guy said "Perfect. 16 dollars." We went home and mom persuaded us to reweigh the apples - 8.5 lbs! Perfect? Really? I want my 1.5 lb worth of apples.

We went there last year and was dissuaded by the 5 lb minimum. This year we were short on time and decided to just deal with it because it was close. They were rude last year; they're still rude this year. Now I really won't go back.

I want to emphasize that this review is for Pippin Orchard NURSERIES, not Pippin Orchard Apple Farm! I cannot say enough about the wonderful and caring help we received when shopping for landscaping materials this spring. The owner, Paula, and other employees could not have been more kind and helpful. And their costs are VERY competitive with other nurseries in Cranston. Their inventory of both perennials and annuals, as well as all different varieties of landscaping choices was more than I've seen at any local nursery. My husband and I wouldn't shop anywhere else. Fred and Loraine V.

very rude to my family. my parents wanted to take their three grandchildren (my kids) applepicking for a few hours. they were gonna make everyone including my two year old buy 5 pounds of apples! that was the rule. they were also extremely rude and discourteous, like my family was putting them out by wanting to go apple picking. so my father and two year old had to stay in the car the whole time so they wouldn't have to pay for 10 pounds of unneeded apples. like my two year old was going to pick 5 pounds of apples. such an unpleasant experience. they are going to take their other grandchildren applepicking on two more occasions this fall and i told them to go to barden's orchard in scituate. extremely friendly and family friendly. i can't believe pippin orchard can stay in business with their attitude! don't go!

We stopped by this place (Pippin Orchard Apple Farm - (not the nursery - they were nice) - myself, two friends who were visiting from out of town and my two-year-old son. The people were so rude to us!

We were not greeted in a friendly manner upon arrival and were surprised to find out that the minimum amount of apples to pick was 20 pounds. "Can I just show my son the apple trees?" I asked, and received an answer of no.

We decided to pay to pick anyway, as my son was so excited to pick apples.

"You can pick 3 apples, or 5 pounds of apples" the gruff man said, "still gonna cost ya $20." He asked us if we wanted 1 or 2 plastic bags. We took 2 plastic shopping bags and started towards the orchard. As we were walking off we heard him say "$20 to pick and bags are $1 each." --Just sliding in an extra cost to use a regular plastic bag to gather apples from an apple picking orchard! At this point, we weren't feeling the love so we decided to leave.

A woman came outside as we left, asking if we had returned the bags. "Yes, we wouldn't take them, we understand that they are a dollar each," we told her. She yelled to the man, "did they return the bags?"

"We told you we did," we said. We received a sarcastic look back and a rude "Just making sure I know what's going on," she said.

We ended up going to Confreda Farms to buy apples where everyone was super nice. Pippin Orchards does not get my recommendation.

My family loves this place!!! In October, this is the place to be-apple picking. Not only can you roam the acres picking apples and eating them, but they also have a small pumpkin patch for the kids to pick a pumpkin. They also offer a hayride around the orchard for an additional fee. A great time for the family on an autumn day!
