When my dog, Toby, was diagnosed with Heartworms, I was devastated. The "chain" vet I normally go to is good for preventive care, but not if something is wrong. Although they were symathetic, their "chain-store" fee for treatment was super expensive. I called around to everyone I knew, but no one was able to help me...until I called Cheatham Animal Clinic. The staff there were SO helpful to me on the FIRST PHONE CALL! I literally CRIED with joy! From that day until Toby completed his treatment, they were SUPER nice, SUPER professional, and SUPER helpful. I told them (and I mean it!) that as soon as I was finished with this "chain", we will be coming to them for our veterinarian services! I can't thank them enough for helping Toby and I!

Sometimes it is hard to know who is the best choice for your pet's care. I have an elder dog (and a younger dog and cat) who needs her last months or--if I'm lucky--years to be comfortable for her and me.
In a rustic setting, I had hoped the veterinarians were versed enough to treat her problems without going over the top with diagnostics. I was looking for a vet who would have experience that would include intuition and knowledge. I got Dr. Cheatham and he was kind, willing to listen, explained things clearly and was gentle with my old girl. He treated her skin condition, but went on to recommend care for her overall condition. We talked about pain management and healthy supplements to go along with her aging immunity.
I took every one of his recommendations and as a result have full confidence that her last months will be the best they could be. I also spoke with Dr. Hunter, first when he answered the phone on my initial call and heard my interest in finding the right vets, and again in the clinic. It is a well staffed clinic with kindness and compassion evident.
With this clinic you are getting experience, empathy and state of the art care.
Not a minor concern, the fees were well within reason. I feel like one lucky pet owner today!

I don't understand the issues others had either. The staff is friendly and will answer any questions you ask. I love the attention they give the patient. We thought our dog was going to die on the way to Columbia. Cheatham was not our regular vet at the time. Our Vet was closed and refer you to someone else when they are. It was a weekend and my daughter in law called. They were her vets. Dr. Hunter took care of our dog. She wasn't responding and he stayed with her past the time he was supposed to leave. She stayed for a few days and is back to her sassy little self. I appreciated the updates when I called to check on her, but what mattered the most was the care she was given. I don't believe my previous vet would have saved her. We now drive to Columbia for all Vet visits for our dogs.

Dr. Cheatham, Dr. Hunter and the entire staff are incredible! Around 3 weeks ago, my puppy Dash climbed our backyard fence and went running the neighborhood on his own. He ran out in front of a vehicle on Old Woodlands Road and was hit and injured badly. The driver in the vehicle and neighbors standing by immediately called Cheatham Animal Clinic and eventually tracked me down.

By the time I got to the scene, Cheatham Animal Clinic was already on hand tending to Dash and asked if I wanted to take him in and the answer was absolutely yes. His backside was tore up and his leg bone was sticking out with most of his tendons and muscles torn.

When we arrived at the clinic, Dr. Cheatham took X-Rays and sat me down and went over his professional recommendations and the situation at hand realizing my pup Dash was in pretty bad shape and could possibly lose his leg. The next day they performed surgery and Dash stayed at their facility for several days to rehabilitate. It's 3 weeks later and Dash is about to get his cast off and his back has healed up nicely from where they sewed him up. The great news is that he's going to be able to run again and have close to normal use in his badly injured leg.

It doesn't stop there, as the entire staff took him in and treated him like he was one of their own. They phoned me every night to let me know how he was doing on top of all the personal visits that we made daily checking up on him.

Not only has the staff been exceptional with our beloved pet, they have been exceptional with our family and you can tell they take pride in what they do and really do care.

I would strongly recommend Cheatham Animal Clinic to anyone looking for exceptional veterinarian service in the downtown or southeast Columbia area.

I'm not sure what happened with these people who had problems at this clinic, but let me share my experience. I walked in and was met by a sweet young lady named Jennifer, I remember her name because as soon as I came in she said, Welcome to the clinic, I'm Jennifer, what can we do for you? I was next given paperwork to fill out being my first visit, however with a sick pup they took her right back and Dr. Hunter was in the room within minutes. The vet tech was Jeana who was equally as kind. Blood work and x-rays were done on my pup and the diagnosis was made. Dr Hunter was the nicest most professional and friendly vet I have ever met. On my follow up visit, I did have to wait a bit, about 30 minutes because they had an emergency that had come in. I would highly recommend Cheatham Animal Clinic to anyone that needs a vet for their pets!!! Great job you guys!!

Exceptional Veterinarian, Dr's Hunter and Cheatham. Professional, Caring staff. Took time to explain all of my dogs problems and how they would treat him. Office very clean and nice smell. My dog was treated no different than when I take my infant son to their pediatrician

I have been going to Cheatham Animal Clinic for years and they are wonderful. I have been to several other clinics and the other clinics don't take care for animals the way Cheatham does. They treat all the animals as if they are part of their own family. I had a dog go to the emergency vet and they did not charge me for any of the follow-up visits.

Unlike the other reviewers, I couldn't have been more impressed with the care and concern shown to our pet at this clinic. We were new to the area and our aging dog suddenly developed a cough. An appointment was made for the same day and we were welcomed by the receptionist in a very friendly manner. All of the staff was friendly and treated our Niki as a long-time friend. Dr. Cheatham spent a long time with her determining the best course of treatments for her symptoms. My only negative comment was the facility could have been cleaner, however our appointment was late afternoon of what they said was a very busy day so that may have been the reason for the untidy appearance.

I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. My 4 month old labmix puppy was injured last night when she took a tumble and fell into a protruding stick. The stick actually went inside of her. I rushed her to the Vet ER here in town who was wonderful. They took X-rays which showed the stick had punctured her tummy. They referred me to Cheatham for surgery this morning. I took my frightened and injured pup in at 9am for this surgery. I sat for 30 minutes and finally a vet came out and got me. They asked me what had happened and I explained for a 3rd time. I had already given them a copy of the x-rays. He said okay well we will perform the surgery. A vet tech came in, took my pup from me and they rushed me out the door without answering any of my questions whatsoever. Once out in the waiting room I tried to ask the girl at the front and she was extremely rude and told me that they would call when she was out of surgery. So I left at 10am, confused. Not once did anyone call me. I called on several occasions throughout the day and the girl at the front was extremely rude like I was bothering her with my questions. Finally at 4pm I demanded some answers and all she could tell me is that my pup was STILL in surgery but ok and she would be there overnight. I couldn't even get an answer as to if they would just kennel her or if they would have someone watching her overnight. This is the WORST experience I have ever had with a professional.

A friend highly recommended a vet at this practice (Dr. Battle), and to his credit, he has a history of being wonderfully compassionate, kind and professional to animals, per my friend. Upon our visit, he was pleasant, but didn't volunteer any information about my animal unless I outright asked. The vet tech, on the other hand, was completely uncompassionate, and I was horrified at the laissez-faire attitude this "person" took when approaching my animal. There was a student vet tech there, and when she and this student entered the room (before the vet came in 20 mins later), she just walked up to the dog (not a WORD to me or my husband, or my scared whitless new pet) and grabbed her, and started doing thing like taking a temp, getting an O&P swab, giving shots, and the ENTIRE TIME she was doing this, she was too busy telling the student how to do things, and never once - NEVER ONCE - said anything calming to my poor pooch, or patted her, or acted compassionate in any way, whatsoever. She would just tap a spot on my dog's back, or haunch, and turn to the student and say "I'm giving the XXXX shot here, and the XXXX one here". Hello? That's my dog you're tapping and ignoring all at the same time! It was my first experience with Cheatham, and I was just disgusted. I grabbed the dog away from her and told her to get someone else to come do all that, and when she left, I told the student to never approach a scared animal without a calm word, just like a person, and to do anything less is incompetence. I'm a healthcare professional, but any person with a heart knows that, for pete's sake. After the actual vet visit, the girl at the counter gave me such attitude about getting a copy of my dog's chart from that visit. She (I am not kidding) slapped down the invoice and tapped on it, and sarcastically said that everything I needed was right there (it wasn't; I needed a neg HW copy). AWFUL SERVICE!

PROS: Vet seems nice, but distracted.
CONS: Terrible vet techs, bad attitudes, horrible service.
