This museum is really like having a bunch museums under one roof, so there is something for everyone. There is art, science, history, childrens areas and more. Our whole family loves going there. Last summer, I took a two-year old, an 8 year-old and a 12 year-old (plus myself). We all had a blast and had to drag ourselves away. I would say this is a must-see in Columbia.

I went to the South Carolina State Museum twice last year- once taking my kids on a field trip and again with my husband and friends. I found it fascinating every time I went. There's so much to see that its nearly impossible to spend adequate time on every level and make it through the entire thing. I love the science floor and all the cool experiments you can do. I also think the building/engineering floor with the huge legos and building blocks are great. Anything hands on is a winner with me. They have a lot of history also and are always changing exhibits so its could to go back every once in a while. The price is very reasonable. Take the family!

PROS: different, entertaining, educational
CONS: so big!
