M Cafe

The experiences I have had at M. Cafe have been pretty varied. There have been times where I have had great meals and great service, but those times were sadly few and far between.

Meal Quality/Price:
The meals are generally really good tasting! However, the prices of the food items at M. Cafe are quite frankly outrageous. If you do HAVE to go, eat at lunch time when the same portion of the same meal is usually about 4 dollars cheaper then at dinner time. However, I suggest you do not eat there as a restaurant is not defined solely by the food's taste.

Rude Wait Staff:
The servers at the restaurant are not always that friendly. There are a couple that I have liked, but typically the waiters and waitresses are absolutely RUDE and hurry you through your meal as if you're wasting their time. Also, there is some really horrid woman who is always there (I presume the owner after reading these reviews) and she is just as terrible as most of the others have said. She is typically yelling at someone, be it a server, chef, or CUSTOMER! Yes, customer! I have never seen a manager be completely rude and just ignore a customer over a comment or complaint until I went to M. Cafe.

Cleanliness:
The restaurant itself has always seemed really clean to me whenever I sit nearer to the front door. However, the last time I went I was seated in the back next to the kitchen. The things I saw back there were not very professional nor appetizing. The server station is right next to the seating... servers were eating the rice out of some bins at leisure and taking food from plates right in front of the customers. Oh, and the last time I went there was the first time I had visited their restroom... Going back to the facilities, you can see into the kitchen easily, and it is absolutely filthy, and it SMELLS so incredibly rancid. After that I decided I should probably not return. I'm not even sure what could create such a strong smell. It smelled of extremely old soured milk.

I have had a few really great meals at M. Cafe, but after the experience I had last time, I will probably not ever go back.

All of Michelle's restaurants (M Cafe, Miyo's, Miyo's on Forest, and the Harbison Miyo's) have really great food. It's fresh, beautifully seasoned, and artfully presented. A big bonus is the number of excellent vegetarian options.

The M Cafe Asian Grill on Sumter has delicious Asian food. Their sushi is fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is very authentic and the wait staff is top notch.
It is kind of small and gets quite crowded, but is worth the wait.
I highly recommend the mixed grill kabob.
