Poor all the way around. Used to like this place. Visited last weekend after a few years. Service was poor, more importantly the food was poor. Seafood very bland, portions were much smaller and no garnish or lemon to put on the fish.

It's a cool atmosphere with a great outdoor bar by the creek. Boats pull up to the landing and hungry sailors can grab a bite and a cold one. It has a beautiful view!

This old and established eatery is well known for good food, a wide variety of refreshments and a super view of Shem Creek. With outdoor dinning, as well as full view windows inside, one can enjoy a great microbrewery beer or platter of

The place has a very fun, relaxed southern vibe. The server was friendly, and the food came quickly. They had classic rock playing in the background and we sat in the back room surrounded by big windows overlooking the bay and shrimp boats.

Pretty good. Steak sandwich was tasty. Fried green tomatoes were tart and crispy. Beer list was diverse and affordable. I'd come back for sure.

Food is awesome most of the time. They seem to do well with certain items. The Seafood Wando is great, but the surf and turf could be better. The creme brulee has been great most times but was not good the last time.

I was a regular here from 95' till 99' when I moved away. Now that I am back in FL I drop in a few times a yr. This is where the locals eat. Awsome boat shaped bar. Very casual dining. Outdoor bar on the creek in season. Open fry-line

The food was really good with generous portions at reasonable prices. The atmosphere was a lot of fun and the views of the creek are spectacular. Seafood is the specialty, but the fried chicken is excellent, too.

We had drinks and apps here on a Sunday afternoon. The nachos, Old Bay wings, and fried green tomatoes were all good. The service was good, but we were almost the only ones in the restaurant at that time of day.

5 of us went to Shem on a non crowded weeknight. Several meals were good, several not. The night special was a prime rib/shrimp. It was HORRIBLE! Inedible to be exact. Despite talking to the manager (who was borderline rude) a whole $3 was taken off of the bill! McDonalds would have been better! DO NOT GO, or at least stay away from the specials.

Everything was HORRIBLE....food, drinks, appetizers, even the bread the brought to the table was.... what.... toasted hot dog buns. Female manager was rude and insensitive. We had a party of 12 and she refused to let us push tables together even though the tacky dining room was EMPTY. Our waitress was ok- but served items she knew were bad.... miami vice drink, mussels, wedge salad... you have to WORK to screw these things up

Ive been to Shem Creek Bar & Grill once before during a Mardi Crawl earlier this year. Ive never had an oyster shot but a friendly couple said they had the best in town. Instantly I fell in love with the atmosphere and the bartenders. This past weekend while celebrating a friends birthday I proposed a quick stop in to say hello to the bartenders and two rounds of 5 oyster shots. Keep in mind I have a very diverse group of friends from just about every background of culture. As soon as we got our second round a female manager told us to "Keep it quiet and hurry up and leave". So, shocked by that comment we quickly realized we were not welcomed. A patron at the bar told us that "Our people need to stick to downtown and not disrupt Mount Pleasant." So I asked her what she meant by "our" people. She said "you college kids". I kindly let her know that I am 28 years old and currently in the United States Air Force. Ive served two tours in Iraq and seen much more chaos any college student ever will. She looked at my friends and said "the only reason you people are even allowed in this country is because my father fought in the wars". Its still unclear which exact ones she was talking about but I assume it an older one being as she looked about 65. At first I didn't understand it but by that time a second manager, which happened to be a male, came up and started yelling at us. He stated that he only sees us disrupting the peace of the restaurant. We tried to let him know what was going on but he wasn't having it at all. He used racial terms that I refuse to say and it was apparent our business wasn't welcomed. I apologized to the bartender and paid my tab as soon as we were closed out the manager followed behind us screaming with his hands in the air the whole time. He looked ridiculous because we were already out the door but it was very rude and showed zero customer service. We frequent Shem Creek area as a group a lot and never have I felt something so disgusting in my experience with any other bars in the area. So I can't help but think is this what I fight for in Iraq? I thought it was for freedom and humanity but clearly it's for Racism and Ignorance...if I had the option to leave the star rating blank trust me it wouldnt get any!

Cons: Management

There was 4 people in my party and not one of us enjoyed our meal. We are not tourist we are locals and we agree with the other people who wrote reviews, this is a tourist trap. We ordered some Fish Bites and on this piece of paper placed on the table they were suppose to be $5.99 on the bill we were charged $9.99. The waitress said because they ran out of the fish that they were using for the fish bites, but we were not told this., but she did take off the $9.99 and charged us the $5.99 only because we caought it. I ordered Chicken breasts and they were cooked on a dirty grill and had a burnt taste to them. Our friends ordered shrimp & grits, with sausage and bacon but had no bacon taste and the sausage tasted like hot dog weinies. I complained about the chicken breast and was given 2 new ones but was never told that they were sorry for the chicken with the burnt taste. Our friend ordered oysters on the half shell and they were very very small. I think this restaurant just wants peoples money but doesn't want to put the effort forward to give quality food for the price you are paying.

This meal was the low point of our vacation. We wanted some low country boil and this place was noted as being really good. However, it seemed to be more of a "tourist trap".

The low country boil was disappointing. It was 15 shrimp, a corn on the cob, 2 new potatoes, and 4 sausage pieces. There was no flavor at all.

They served white bread with the meal and it was not even as good was cheap white bread.

The service was fine and the outside dining area appeared nice.

Shem Creek has the BEST She Crab Soup!! The best thing on the menu, the flounder is great too though. Service is great but the only bad thing was the silverware was dingy the last time me and my parents were there. Otherwise AWESOME place and you can also dine outside as well.

Long waits for tables seemed the norm, as we sat among other couples at the bar for what seemed an eternity. Decent bloody mary and fried oysters, but the softshell crab was VERY expensive and VERY cold by the time we were served. Not worth the hastle or the price.

We were expecting a great seafood dinner with all fresh seafood, it was no better than what you get from the supermarket freezer. I have had fresh fish in Baltimore, Boston and Phila and this wasn't even close. Its atourist trap, all hype and no substance. Frozen and soggy is not fresh. Avoid it.

I agree with the previous review. Don't waste your time or money going here.
The meal came out to $106 for 2 adults 1 child. I thought I was going to be getting good seafood since the restaurant is right on the creek. I was sadly disappointed.
I ordered shrimp cocktail and the shrimp was not fresh - ick!
Husband ordered the 'Damn Good Crabcakes' which was just ok.
I had the Dirty Shrimp and Grits which was too oily.
The only good thing was the milkshake.

I was a little disappointed with the food at Shem Creek Bar and Grill after I had heard such rave reviews from friends. The hush puppies were rubbery and the salad was far from fresh. A member of my party got some oysters that he absolutely loved though. They do, however, have a beautiful view, especially at sunset!
