When we were considering schools for my son, we wanted a small school with a loving environment, gentle discipline and good academic program. The downtown location is ideal for us as well. In six years there have been some ups and downs but our son has thrived throughout. The currently principal arrived in May 2009 and has been instrumental in taking the school in a positive new direction, strengthening curriculum and exploiting the many great cultural and educational resources that the downtown area has to offer. The upper classes (4-6) have a great program focused on preparing students for middle school and encouraging great study habits and creative, high level thinking for assignments. No state tests to rate the school but effective student focused assessment allows teachers to taylor teaching to individual student needs (imagine that!). The P.E. and art programs could be better and will be as the school is definitely growing and adding program in contrast with the public school which are facing more and more cuts in funding and staff.
