Gervais & Vine

you wont find a more pompous staff in all of columbia. granted the food is very good and the theme behind the restaurant is a great one...but it gives no excuse for the snobby attitude the waitresses put off. maybe they are too successful? i guess there's no such thing.
but in order to keep from sounding like Tracy G below (she doesnt like anything that isnt a chain) i'll give credit where credit is due...Columbia needs more places like this...independently owned and well versed in unique, fresh foods. just lose the attitude ladies!

After reading some of the reviews of this place, my friends and I decided to stop in one weekend. First off, YES, they are very busy on the weekends. We waited for a lot less than we were told by the hostess, but after being in the business during college, I realize that waiting times aren't an exact science. While we waited, we ordered a spritzy Spanish white that was fantastic (Pescador, I think). Once seated, we had an absolutely perfect dining experience. The server was helpful and explained how everything worked, which was helpful since tapas seem to come out when the kitchen makes them, not all together. The list of items on the menu was impressive and the quality was unreal. You have to get their scallops. They are THE BEST. We ordered way too much food, but had a blast trying everything. Since that visit, we've been back several times and have never been disappointed.

PROS: Fantastic food, great wine list, stellar service
CONS: Very busy, so expect to wait on weekends

I'm not sure what city Gervais and Vine think they are in, but being in Columbia -- they need to check their attitude. The first time I tried to go to this place, it was closed for a private party (on a Saturday night!). The next time, I stood outside in the cold with my companion for an hour, only to see larger groups get taken before us. After asking the girl three times and being told "just 10 more minutes," we left. I will never go back.

Gervais and Vine -- you're not a hip club in LA or NY, so get over yourselves and treat your customers better.

Keep in mind this is mainly a tapas bar, and the menu is made up of, essentially, appetizers. The wine list is decent, and the servers have always been fabulous. They offer to bring out a taste of wine if you are having a difficult time deciding, and are very knowledgeable about the menu itself. Don't like onions? They can tell you if what you want has them. Want a white wine that's sweet, but not 'too' sweet? She'll have a recommendation on that, too. Wonderful, wonderful service, and a great atmosphere. Plus, you can take your menu home with you! I love it!

PROS: Great wine list, great appetizers (tapas), nice atmosphere
CONS: Expensive, very crowded on weekends

Gervais and Vince can get pretty crowded on the weekends. Don't let this deter you from visiting this great tapas bar. They have lots of good wine and tapas for any taste. The service is excellent . And the dessert is a hit.

PROS: good food, drink and service.
CONS: slightly pricey
