We had a great time -- with lots to look at and things to do. The Yorktown was fascinating with tons of displays and planes. I wonder if anyone reads all the signs! Great for those interested in military history. My 5-year-old didn't really like inside the "depths" of the ship, but loved the hanger deck, bridge and outside on the flight deck. The Submarine and Destroyer and Vietnam unit village were very interesting. Be sure to have plenty of time.

Patriot's point is a great museum for the family. I like hands on history that they present, and there are many Naval aircraft as well as naval ships. If you are interested in the military or American history, it is worth the trip.

PROS: Great piece of American History
CONS: rather pricey

Patriots Point Naval Museum has many decommissioned naval ships including the famous USS Yorktown.

I would say this is a definite MUST VISIT for any military or history buffs in your family. There is much to see and do here, and one can spend an entire day just taking tours of the various ships.

Be warned, though, that the doorways inside ships are not like the doorways at home. Instead of being an open area from ceiling to floor, ship doorways are actually little holes cut ouf of the wall. So if you're tall, you definitely have to bend down, and you must lift your feet when passing through or else you'll trip. Just something to keep in mind if you are visiting with someone who does not have excellent mobility skills. Also, I do not think that all areas of the Yorktown are wheelchair accessable.

This museum is highly recommended for anyone interested in military (or any type of) history, particularly military aircrafts and ships. The museum's highlight is the Navy ship Yorktown, which allows visitors to explore all of the various artifacts within the ship. The museum is easy to locate and not too expensive. I would highly recommend it to visitors and locals alike!

PROS: Lots to see and do
CONS: None

Patriots Point is a maritime museum. They are home of the Yorktown (#10) ship and other craft. This was a real ship used by the military and is simply fascinating! Inside the yorktown are planes, an apollo capsule that was on the moon and all kinds of exhibits. You can tour the entire Yorktown and you could easily spend a day in there touring. It is expensive but the money is for a good cause and they put the money in the exhibits. It is simply fascinating! Parking is not a problem. They have several huge parking lots and parking is free. You also get a wondeful view of the Charleston Harbor from the ship (it is floating in the harbor). The tour might be too hard for those with kids in strollers or those in wheelchairs but a lot of the ship is accessible by stroller and wheelchair.

PROS: Wonderful history museum
CONS: expensive
