The meals were reasonablely priced and had a nice family atmosphere, but the food was disappointing for this BBQ trail fan. Tried the platter with the pulled pork, pulled chicken and ribs. Most of the food was cold, but the ribs were the best thing on the platter. Pulled chicken was very fatty and the pulled pork was flavorless. The onion ring was good and the cole slaw was homemade, baked beans tasted liked Bush's, and potatoe salad had that funny taste like premade salad from the grocery store. The Home Team was also recommended to me, but didn't like the bar atmosphere.

Pros: Always good

Cons: hmmm none

Okay, here's the thing. I'm from NC and we Tarheels would probably qualify as "BBQ snobs" with our eastern and western styles, but even as a western NC BBQ snob I gotta say that if Bessinger's represents the best of SC BBQ, then it

Pros: quick service, homecooked side items on buffet

Cons: bbq is bland, dry, sauce is bland

I am love their BBQ. I am not a huge fan of georgia mustard but there is very good, and the red or the memphis style is great too! Just the right amounbt of smoke if you as me. Very good over all. The slaw is a real treat on top.

I am very picky about my pulled pork (like just about everybody else) and I love Bessinger's pulled pork! They don't pile sauce all over it like some BBQ places like to do, and all of their sides are mouth watering. I happen to favor their sweet potatoe casserole (can't think of what they call it). The staff is always very friendly, and they bus their tables pretty quickly. Prices are a tiny bit high for lunch, but still worth it!

Pros: food, sweet tea, BQ sauce, sides, value for $$

Cons: lady at register somewhat distant, not friendly (buffeteria)

We eat Bessingers probably more than we should. This restaurant is casual so there is not problem bringing the little one. We have eaten a lot of different things and they are all good... BBQ, Hamburgers, Turkey Sandwiches and fries. They also have a buffet on one side of the restaurant.

Make sure you order the onion rings... They are delicious!!

We love going to Bessinger's to get their giant onion rings. Their BBQ pork sandwiches are to die for. I love that they sell two sizes as well in case you don't have a large of an appetite as the person next to you.

I live 3.5 hours away but travel thru Charleston 5-6 times a year. I stop at Bessingers as many times as possible. I rarely eat anywhere else while in town. It's that good!!!!!!!!\r

Bessinger's has the best BBQ in the Charleston area, hands down! It is much more true to form to his late Father's "secret recipe" than "the other". I would recommend for the food, hospitality, comfort, as well as more like the original.

It's so hard to recommend a barbeque place because everyone has their own preferences, but I grew up in Charleston eating my "Little Joe" (pork bbq sandwich with a mustard based sauce), with steak fries and big, bready, sweet onion rings.

Pros: Inexpensive, Good carry out

The grandsons of founder "Big Joe" Bessinger, Tommy and Michael Bessinger, learned their barbecue ways from the family, and now purvey the same slow pit-cooked meat they learned to enjoy---and prepare---as youngsters. Traditional sides…
