We have dined at the Columbiana location and love it. We have just tried the Lexington location and are glad to report that the food is just as delicious there. Good service and nice subtle decor.

I visit one of the Miyo's restaurants at least once a week. The food and service is always excellent. The restaurants are all beautifully decorated and have a great atmosphere. Try the grilled salmon. -Damon

I have eaten at Miyos on Bower Parkway many times since it opened. This was almost always for dinner. I have always found the food to be very good or excellent. The service has always been at least adequate and sometimes very good. My entire family loves the place (including grade school children and grandparents).

While I can't dispute negative experiences that others have had, our experience there has been great and we have never seen the problems others have mentioned. We will go back soon.

I also worked at a Miyo's, and those who have commented are absolutely right: the owner Michelle is completely off her rocker. I only worked there for three days and then just told her I could NOT work there anymore. I have never had anyone be as blatantly rude to me as she was. I was punching in an order and she just yelled something to me from across the room, so when I got done I questioned what it was she said and she just went off on me, calling me stupid and chastising me for having worked there for two weeks without knowing the menu and the seating chart. I had only worked there for two days and had only been trained in doing to-go orders.

The other wait staff were horrified of her also, and would try to stay as far away from her as possible during their shifts. The day I started working there they explained how insane she was. Man, I should have listened. She also makes her servers park at meters (this was at M. Cafe in downtown Columbia) and makes you leave during your shift to go refill them, which is illegal by the way, and when you get back she yells at you about why you had left during your shift...

I always thought the food there was decent, although way overpriced, but I will never never NEVER eat at another Miyo's location after experiencing the backbone of it all, Michelle.

Pros: The sushi is pretty decent.

Cons: Everything else.

I was an employee at Miyo's after eating at the resteraunt a few times. The experience I had as an employee and as a customer were much different.

As a customer, M Cafe was great, the atmosphere was amazing, the food was good and the experience enjoyabIe. I haven't had a full dish at Miyo's in Columbiana, but they do have similar menus.

As an employee I can give a much more detailed profile of the "Miyo's Empire". While Michelle is a smart business woman she is very rude, she has no couth. She is rude to her employees and she assumes that you've done an awful job-as an employee you continually get chewed out by Michelle, we looked forward to the days that she wouldn't be at the resteraunt.

Even worse, the back of the Columbiana location smelled like a dumpster, it was so gross you couldn't even go into the freezer, where fresh food is supposedly kept without the awful stench. There is no way that place is up to code, it was gross.

I wouldn't contribute to that woman's tyranny, she is absolutely insane and rude. If you MUST eat at a Miyo's, go with M Cafe on Sumter.

Pros: Good Food

Cons: Owner's Attitude

I love the food but the lady who owns the restaurant is always unpleasant to me.

I have been a customer of Miyos for several years. The food is great! If you are looking for a choice where you can find dishes that are both healthy and tantalizing then Miyos is the place for you. The menu has a wide selection and can accomodate every taste a person may have. Another attribute of MIyos is the management. The owner takes great strides to ensure that every customer is satisfied. One time, at Miyos in the vista, my server incorrectly entered my order (which happens at every restauraunt). The owner promptly corrected the error and did so with the upmost professionalism and a smile on her face. The management at Miyos gives Miyos the attribute I desire the most: consistency. Every meal I have is consistently wonderful. Therefore, I keep coming back to every location time and time again. Also, thanks for opening a new location at Sandhills! The new location is saving us from having to commute downtown!

I have tried the new Sandhill location twice and used to frequet the Forrest location. The Sandhill service was HORRIBLE and the sushi was...sad...BiLow does better and is cheaper. I also had the garlic chicken - very bland. Have been to Columbiana Place with my brother and wasn't overly impressed. Better sushi at other locations in Columbia.

This is an email sent to me from my mother:

I want to share with all of you our horrible experience at the new Miyo's restaurant in Sandhill today (Mother's Day). I was there with my daughter, Jessica, who has a lot of allergies. The OWNER of the restaurant was called over so that Jessica could ask her what the ingredients were of the sauces to determine which one she could eat. The OWNER told her the ingredients very hurriedly and then said, "You should not eat out in public if you have so many allergies. You should eat at home." She was extremely rude and we were shocked!! The waiter apologized for the owner's behavior and said that she acts like this often.

After we ate dinner (which wasn't really very good anyway), I calmly walked up to the Owner and said to her, "You were extremely rude to my daughter, which was not necessary." The Owner ignored my comment all together and kept writing. I said, "I see you don't seem to even care that you were rude?" She then said basically that no she didn't care. I then said that I will never be back again. At that point, the Owner looked at me and said, "Good, I don't want you to come back to my restaurant."

I was appalled. Jessica, my mother and I then started to walk out of the restaurant. The Owner purposely ran to the door to open it and told us not to come back and started yelling at us and followed us to the car even though we said we were done talking with her and didn't want to talk with her any more. She continued to make a scene yelling at us until we got in the car.

My wife and I had tickets to go to a movie on a Friday night in the same center and decided to go grab a bite to eat before the movie. Out of all the restaurants on the strip, Miyo's is the only restaurant that wasn't hamburgers or wings. Miyo's is an amazing chinese restaurant that stays away from your stereotypical ideas of a chinese place. Nice sit down atmosphere, great selection, and fantastic service. There was a bit of a wait (10-15 minutes) but it was definitely worth the experience. We were in a bit of a rush to make our movie, but our server (Kyle) provided excellent, prompt service for us.

We've been back ever since almost every week to try something different on the menu, from sushi and sashimi, to a wide array of sushi rolls that I have yet to see in other restaurants. Amazing specialty dishes (I highly recommend the Sizzling Tenderloin served over spinach: lightly battered tenderloin tips sauteed with mushrooms in a black pepper sauce that isn't as over powering as it sounds) and amazing wok items. The specialty items can be a bit pricey, but when you're looking for a 5-star meal with a 5-star experience, it's definitely worth it.

If it's you plan to stop by Miyo's in Harbison, my wife and I highly recommend Kyle and Justin as servers. Two of Miyo's best.

I am almost 40, and in all my years and experiences, I have never experienced worse customer service than I received at Miyo's. The owner is RUDE, and it is unbelieveable the way she handles things and treats her employees. The situation was so unbelieveable that even now looking back on it, it's hard to believe it really happned.

None and the employees seem very happy there, and that results in less than good customer service. And considering what you are paying for the food, it seems like service should be top notch.

The owner apparently believes because she built a nice looking restaurant and has good food, that nothing else matters.
But how is it on a friday night when EVERY restaurant in this area is packed, you can simply walk and and be seated?
She is taking something good and ruining it. And is so arrogant, doesn't care that we were unhappy.

I used to love this restaurant....but then I had the absolute worst experience of my life, all because of the owner and her unbelieveable and erratic behavior. It was literally shocking how bad it was, and it was even more disappointing because we had been loyal customers since it opened.
Now they have failed a surprise DHEC inspection, and I feel like you should be very leary about going there....I mean seriously, how is it that EVERY restaurant in the area is JAM PACKED on friday and saturday night, yet you can just walk in there and be seated immediately??? Seems a little odd, don't you think?

Cons: prices are much higher than other restaurants with similar foods. Owner doesnot create very positive atmostphere....which means service is lacking

Miyo's seems good from an outside perspective but once you peel back the layers and know that they have failed their health inspections several times, they have been brought to light by former employees and the news for some of their practices. Here is my story.
I was a loyal Miyo's patron for many years hosted 3 birthday parties there, and ate there on average about 20+ times a year, I was planning a suprise birthday party for a girlfriend of mine and was given some misinformation by someone who I was told was the manager. On the day of the party we were called and told that not only would they not honor the price we were trying to take advantage of them. I was sure it was just some sort of misunderstanding and as a manager myself, and loyal patron I was sure I could get it resolved, instead I was told, "Miyo's did not need my business, to tell everyone about this story b/c it wouldn't hurt" so I am doing that.

If I tell you that Miyos as a Chinese restaurant actually discriminate Chinese people, you probably won't believe it. That's what happened to me a couple weeks ago. Around noon, I just wanted to have a simple fast lunch. The host lets me waited about 15 mins in the lobby, and at the mean time continued to seat other people came into the door, of course they are White males.

I lost my credit card after the lunch, because the waitress did not bring me back my card. I was being rushed during the whole lunch, I forget it as well. I have to cancel my card afterwards and went through a lot other trouble.

It sure was an expensive lunch, financially and emotionally!!

Went with a large group. Service was great...and made the difference. Was told by locals that it was Japanese place. Called the place twice before going...got voicemail both times. Sushi/Sashimi not good. Everyone that ordered chinese appeared to enjoy it.
