I have lived in the area for a few years now and have been to Shooters Choice several times. The staff stays pretty busy helping customers, so with traffic like this they must be doing something right. In my case, I have never had a bad experience at this facility. I find the staff to be knowledgeable and straight forward. Being a mature adult, I prefer this to having someone keep telling me what I want to hear. I think people will find that an air of mutual respect will go a long way toward having a rewarding experience with anyone in the gun business.

I have always had great customer service from each employee I've dealt with at Shooter's Choice. Just recently they sold a used gun for me fairly quickly on consignment. They also gave me a call when an new M&P 22 came in for me, which I purchased today at a great price with free range time included. I have never ever had a problem getting something special ordered for me whether it be a left-handed long gun, a Sig, a Glock, a S&W or an accessory.

I've wanted to go to a shooting range for a long time, and finally got around to it. Except for a BB gun when I was a kid, and a rifle one time (which I found to be way too heavy) I had never used a gun before.

The staff at Shooter's Choice was friendly, and Aaron especially was so helpful in giving me recommendations, patient when I had questions about the pistol, and quite encouraging with regard to how well he thought I was doing. I had a wonderful time overall even though I was somewhat nervous at the outset.

I'll definitely be going back there again.

I've read most of these reviews before I went to Shooters and must admit I was pretty nervous about what I would find. The reviews make claims of arrogance, rudeness, and poor customer service. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!! When I got there I was a bit timid because of my lack of knowledge about firearms and that fact that I have experienced an atmosphere around the gun community of it being a "good ol'boys club." I came in to have new sights put on my S&W MP 45 and was greeted by Bill, a kind and generous man who made me feel very at easy. The interaction was professional at first but as we got to know each other it became more friendly. Every time I have been back the interactions become of those between friends and less of just a individual client. For all those who dont realize it, people are people and if you want a good experience dont come in with an ATTITUDE! People can tell if you have a poor attitude and will react to it. Since my first visit in March, 2011, I have been back several times and have purchased a Rem 1100 from them without any problems. I have dealt with Patrick, Bill, Russel, and one other gentleman at the range who was very helpful in teaching me some technique on my firing.

Overall: take the reviews with a grain of salt and form your own opinion. I had an EXCELLENT experience but then again I didnt go in there with a poor attitude expecting to have a confrontation. Shooters will be my Firearms home for the foreseeable future.

This was my first buying experience at Shooters Choice and my last. First week of March I went in to basically just check it out. I had never been in before. As I walked by the counter there was another customer standing there asking the salesman "why do I have problems putting my Gen 4 back together after I clean it ? The slide will not go back on." The salesman was stumped!!! I said "here let me show you", as I reset the trigger and it went right on. I should have known then to run! He thanked me for helping him out. When he finished with that customer he asked if I needed help with anything. I told him I was interested in the Tru Glo TFOs for my Glock 17 and asked if he had any. He said they did and installation was free. I asked him to hold a set of them with my name on them until I returned my my pistol. Now mind you I never saw the package the sights were in. I have a set on my XDM so I know what they are .When I returned I told the guy I was here and he had their Armorer take my gun and put the sights on, then rang me up and on my way I went. Two weeks later I take my Glock to shoot some steel plates and at 10 yds it shot at least a foot and a half high. This was odd, I shoot this gun regularly in IDPA and it is extremely accurate. I got home and retrieved the receipt, bag and box in which I bought them to find out it was the wrong model sights for my gun. Again, they never handed the sights to me to see, I would have assumed they would be right and or at least their Armorer would not have put them on the wrong GUN!!!! I was wrong on both cases.
The rub is it has been 2 weeks now and they say they have ordered the sights but they haven't come in. They didn't know if their supplier had any. Their supplier is in Chapin 20 minutes away. They are not the only buyers from that same supplier!!! I had someone else call and check and they have plenty in stock.
So, I guess I am the idiot for not running when my gut told me to! Just horrible customer service, I am in LE and do not mind spreading this tidbit to all I have contact with.

This is no joke, I have been a customer of Shooter's Choice for a while, never spent a lot of money in there due to the attitudes but since they are on my way home I treat them like a convenience store for ammo and cleaning supplies. I live in Lexington and love to shoot at Defender Shooting Range but they don't sell guns so I stopped by Shooter's to buy a Sig or Springfield (haven't decided yet) I had 1,000. in cash ready to buy. The guy behind the counter was barely interested in helping me, showed me a couple of guns and I sensed that he was getting aggravated with me because I couldn't decide. I asked him about the Sig 220 Carry and he said "we don't have it" I asked if they could order it and he said "what you see is what you get" .... really? I'm ready to spend a grand with you, gun, extra magazines, ammo. You can't order a gun? you are a dealer right? you do order guns right? WTF. I'm done with Shooter's Choice. Oh and all that construction on the range. It's still filthy. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Ok, really...if you read a positive comment about Shooters, it must be posted by Shooters managers or employees. That place is the pits! I went to the new shooting range over in Lexington after going to Shooters... No Comparison, the folks were friendly, helped me with my gun and the range had great lighting and didn't smell like smoke. They don't sell guns but it's a great range. Sorry Shooters Choice, I found a better place to shoot. Check out Defenders Range! it's about time somebody did it right.

I've been going to Shooter's Choice for a few years to use the range; most of the reviews on them are right on, they think because they sell guns, that makes them smarter than the rest of the world. The first time I saw this kinda thing was at auto parts stores where the salesmen acted macho because they knew auto parts; Large egos, small brains. BUT the bottom line is when I'm a paying customer, I'm the one with the money, you know, the money they get for selling to me. Won't buy anything there. And oh, by the way, next time, ask them to spell it.

.Positive things about Shooter's:
-A place to shoot your guns
-Fair price for half an hour ($8.00)
-They provided me safety glasses at no additional cost
-You can bring your own targets ($2 bucks for 12 targets from Walmart, more than $5 bucks per target from Shooters) and your own ammos. Almost twice cheaper from Walmart (Depends on your bullets sizes)
-Clean facility but little dirty restroom (Men's, Im not sure about Female's restroom BC I'm male)

Negative things about Shooter's:
-Their targets are expensives!
-Employees aren't nice enough to lift their own pinky finger to help customers for anything, They just point it out or say something no more than 2 sentences!
-Their guns cost are way to high to buy.. To buy a M16-They tend to sell it for approx $2K... You can get brand new one for no more than $1200 at Lexington Pawn & Guns shop. Lex Pawn & Guns have a lot of brand new guns. I just bought a brand new handgun for $399.99, Orig price was $539.99. I checked the price for same gun I have at Shooter's... Their cost was $769.99!! Major rip off
-Whenever you call them to ask them questions, They almost never say greetings... They wld say Hello or Hey then I had to ask if it was Shooter's Choice... THANKS Guys!! There's bunch of lazy a$$holes Im running out of spaces, I could go on much longer.

I've been going to SC for years, and never had a bad experience. But then I am a former Marine, a two-time collegent letterman in marksmanship, and I like guns and the people who like weapons & guns. I have watched the employees interact with the customers and the only thing I can say is they do not bear fools gladly. People come in with dumb questions because they haven't done their own homework. Shooter's Choice is a good place with good, well-informed employees. It's my Choice. Simper Fi.

I have been a customer of Shooter's Choice since they first opened many years ago. Over the years they have made many changes/improvements. I have always found the employees to be very professional and helpful, although there have been times when, due to heavy customer loads, they did not have time to carry on a lengthy conversation. Let's face it, they are in the gun selling business. If a gun buying customer is waiting while they are selling a box of ammo, that could mean a lost sale. The negative posts sound alot like sour grapes from their "new" competitor to me.

Guys! please stop trying to undress me with your eyes every time I walk in!!!!!!!!!! It's really getting ridiculous. This is a gun store not a strip club! I'm a customer not an exotic dancer. The stares and comments are getting old. I'll do business elsewhere.

Take my advice, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME (or money) with Shooters Choice in West Columbia. There is this sawed off gray haired guy that really needs to wash. He greets customers with "What you need?" then if you ask for something simple like a box of 38's he'll grab a box and slap it on the counter and say "is that all?" what an A$$ Hole!! Unbelievable how customers are treated in this place, everyone seems to have an attitude problem. Not all customers are experts and a little bit of "Nice" goes along way.

Last year my gun bag was stolen from my truck, my fault, I left it on the seat and went out to eat. Lost my 1911, holster, ammo, all was gone. Finally I got the insurance check and with a little Christmas money added to it I had over a grand to spend. Went to Shooters and was treated so bad, me and my money walked out the door. One employee asked "what can I do you for?" I said, "I'm looking for a gun" he laughed and said "you got to do better than that" Ended up buying an XD, gun bag and all accessories from Sportsman's Warehouse. Thanks Shooters, your arrogant employee taught me a lesson, never do business with you again. Sportsman's was great, nice, helpful folks, now it's off to the range to break this XD in.

Went to Shooters choice last saturday, won't go back! I asked for a holster for a Beretta 96 and I get "if we got one, its over there" pointed to a back wall. That was the extent of the help I received. After looking what they had to offer and getting no help. I walked out. Not like they were busy, seemed like the workers there were more interested in laughing and joking behind the counter. I'm the customer! I came in to spend money! ended up buying a N82 holster at a another shop. If the idiots at Shooters choice would do their job, they might not have so many bad reviews.

My girlfriend and I drove an hour to shoot my new Glock 21, when I got to Shooter's I was told that the range was closed, They guy said "don't know when it will be open" as he smacked on a piece of fried chicken. One employee kept looking at my girlfriend and another was too busy texting to help customers. I'm sorry I wasted my time going to there and don't think I'll go back.

Shooters Choice is by far the better range to shoot at. I think people who are unknowledgable are writing negative reviews based on single time incidents where more than likely they were given better advice for what they needed and didnt want to take it. The people who work there are beyond professional and always courteous. They are in no way stuck up and showing off, they know what they are doing. There is a peace of mind when you are shooting in there because these guys have years upon years of experience and if you need some help simply let them know what the problem is and they are right there and know what to do. I also noticed a few comments on here that were tracked back to employees of the new lexington range. If you want to see unprofessionalism at its best just walk inside that range. Not even mentioning the prices at Shooters are absolute best. The ammo is better by several dollars a box including wal marts rock bottom brands. Shooters has a brand new ventilation system being installed now and I cant wait for it to be done so I can buy my yearly membership and go shooting every week. Cant wait to see you guys again.. keep up the good work! And thank you for all your help learning more about weapons, safetly ammo and shooting!!

I wouldn't spend a penny with this bunch of jerks, the owners must be the biggest morons to keep such jerks as employees. I went there to buy a 9mm handgun, I wasn't sure which gun was right for me and needed a little help and guidance with the purchase. The employee that was showing me the guns was the most arrogant *sshole I have ever met in my entire life, he acted like he knew everything and I was an idiot. I was embarrassed by the way he treated me. On my way out I took a peek at the indoor range and had two customers point guns at me, then I noticed a bullet hole in the wall and the gun smoke pouring out the door as a customer came out with soot all over his face, this can't be safe. I left the store never to return. They don't deserve my money and I really don't want to get shot or get cancer from all the lead in the air.

I have lived in the West Columbia area for over 20 years and have always been to Shooters since they were the only range in town. The range itself has always felt claustrophobic and unventilated to me. Over the years, the customer service has gone from bad to almost non-existent. The last time I went there to buy a holster you would have thought I had just asked someone to dive into a pool filled with acid.

I have never actually purchased a gun from there, so I can't really comment on that, but in my opinion there are much better options in the area, if for no other reason that good customer service. Businesses should never forget who actually helps them pay the bills.

I am amazed that people do business with Shooter's Choice. Almost all reviews are bad. I have been in the store twice and will never go back. First of all the employees are unfriendly and often treat customers like they are second rate. I have been treated that way myself and seen other customers walk out completely dissatisfied with the way they were treated by the employees. The shooting range is a total dump, bullet holes all over the place, it smells bad, the ventilation is non-existent and it's too dark. The vent they are putting in is needed but too little too late in my opinion. No wonder everyone is going over to Defender's Range, it's about time.

Shooters Choice is NOT the only indoor range in the Columbia area. Check out Defender Shooting Sports in Lexington, www.DefenderRange.com not only are they the largest indoor public range but they are also the only indoor range with proper ventilation, friendly staff and their prices are lower than Shooter's

Well, Shooter's Choice IS the only indoor range in Columbia, but there are other public outdoor ranges located in the Sumter National Forest if you don't mind a road trip to Newberry (or beyond) and Mid-Carolina is an AWESOME private range in Gaston (another road trip). Ammo and gun prices at Shooter's Choice are high. I would never buy a gun there because it's cheaper to buy one online. I have never been treated disrespectfully but I know enough about guns to have an intelligent conversation with the sales staff. Most of their tactical/hunting gear is in line with prices I have seen in other gun shops around Columbia.

I only give it one star because I can't grade it lower. I have been going here since 1995. I go in hoping someone has cleaned this bunch of lowlifes up....nope ...still there. I don'tknow how this trash keeps a job. All I can say is the owner must have a bunch of fat, ugly stupid sisters and these are his brother in laws. I have had pistols pointed at my daughter and me on their firing range and the rangemaster didn't see anything wrong with that. I have stood in line and watched a clerk oggle a guys wife for 30 min. while he showed them every laser and light sysrem in stock.. They bought nothing and he walked away quickly while I screamed at him I had been waiting quietly for over 30 minutes for service. They also have a screaming idiot that works their rifle range that had a nervous breakdown because my M1 carbine was "THROWING BRASS EVERYWHERE!!!!". That is because he has been breathing lead dust for years from their broken ventilation system. DHEC has got to be taking bribes to let this pig sty stay open. I pray OBL will blow it up or the EPA will do the firearms purchasing public a favor and just shut it down.

Being in the service industry, it is my duty, honor and privilege to provide quality service to my patients. Unfortunately, several employees at Shooter's do not embrace this philosophy. In particular, there is tall, nicotine saturated, mustached, bald gent who is perched high atop his throne ready and willing to help you feel lower than owl dung. God forbid the lay person approach him with any questions or concerns. He will certainly go out of his way to make your experience the equivalent of hammering a rusty nail through your patella (knee cap) very slowly. This crocodile skinned fellow is not the only self absorbed warm body pacing around the store. Out of the entire staff, approximately 1.5% of the employees are helpful. For all of you second amendment folks out there? rest assured there are a couple of options for you like: Sportsman??s Warehouse or Palmetto Firearms. If I had known then what I know now, I would have purchased my handguns at one of the aforementioned establishments, rather than at Shooter??s. Thanks for nothing Shooter??s, except the opportunity to warn my fellow second amendment brethren.

If you want great customer service, a knowledgeable staff, and a nice range to shoot at, then avoid Shooter's Choice at all costs. I have been in there a handful of times and never received the help I needed, and still haven't spent any $ other than range time. My last trip was to purchase a Galco holster for my Gen4 Glock 19. I asked when they expected more to arrive and the response was "I don't know, maybe when the next truck comes" with a smirk. The range is always cold in the Winter and extremely hot and non ventilated in the Summer. I have been in the tactical/firearms industry for nearly 6 years and trust me, if your question is about anything other than a Glock, then you wont get a knowledgeable answer. Let's not forget that the staff is a bunch of a-holes. Go to Sportsman's Warehouse or gunbroker.com if you want to purchase a new/used gun, and if you want a decent range to shoot at then join Mid-Carolina Rifle Club located in Gaston SC. The MCRC range is set up for pistol, rifle, big bore, and just about anything you want to shoot, and the staff are good folks.

I agree with the poor reviews. I have a .357 and a .32 Baretta Tomcat (carry in my pocket) and they told me it was a toy gun and laughed at me. It embarrased me and ticked me off at the same time. So yes, they are arrogant and a bunch of a--holes. I am going to finish my range card (two more trips) and then will be going to another range.

Went in to purchase a shotgun today to take my kid hunting. First question from staff, "What's your price range?" I say $300-$500 and here is what I get. "Won't buy much." (eyes rolling) Shooter's Choice will never, ever, get a dime of my money...period! The guy didn't even mention that they sell used guns. I go over to the used department and that guy won't even put his fork down to help me. What a joke!! Good luck Shooter's Choice, your customer service is the absolute worst I have ever seen! Maybe you guys can buy and sell your own guns because I'M NOT BUYING!!!!

I have been buying and shooting here for years and generally have been very pleased with the staff. On Saturday, they are often quite busy and sometimes short of staff,so it might take a little longer to get waited on. Russel is great and very helpful. I have bought 7-8 rifles and pistols and have never been "lead"into buying any particular model. The prices I think are ok and competitive. I recently bought a Berneli shotgun and their prices were as good as a few other places. The shooting range is good but the ventilation system needs to be improved. One last comment: They have to be very careful about the gun laws and they have the right to refuse anyone a hand gun if the paper work is not in order, or any other thing that looks suspicious. I can assure you that they do not make up the rules. This protects all of us. Overall, Shooters Choice is fine with me.

I have worked at Shooter's Choice for Eleven years this coming August. I have had both good and bad expiriences. The majority have been good and i enjoy teaching novice or inexpirenced people to shoot handguns, rifles, or shotguns. Our staff each has a speciality. I like historical guns, knives, and blackpowder. I can also help you find holsters or other accessories. I have been online reading reviews of the place I work and many of them seem quite out of character with our staff. If you have an odd caliber ask Mark, for tactical questions ask Eric, for questiions on safes ask Russell, for simple repairs or safe delivery speak to Corey, Bill is a new addition to our staff and knows about all manner of arms and the accoutrements that go with them. We can special order almost anything and sometimes it takes a while to get them in we will always call and see if you are still interested. Please do not be so quick to judge from one bad expirience let our knowledgeable staff see if we can find the answer to your questions or problems. Our main problem right now is getting ammunition and it does seem to be easing up some but the prices have shot up for everyone including the distributors. We are also currently updating our facilities so please bear with while give you a better shooting environment.
So try us again, hopefully you will be pleasently surprised.

ARROGANT SMARTA$$'s, they don't care what you want to buy. The staff steers you toward the high price stuff and not something in your price range, even after they ask what your price range is. There is a little guy and his buddy ( I found out from someone later, it was his manager), that if you don;t purchase a Glock, then everything else is crap. AND if you want to shoot, they gotcha because that is the only open public range for a hundred miles. They want have to worry about my shopping there again!

I recently purchased a Kimber CD II 1911 .45 at Shooters Choice. I have purchased other handguns there over the years and have always found the staff to be very helpful and they offer good advice on the purchases I have made. I sometimes use the indoor range and have found it to be well run and supervised. I will probably return and make other purchases as the need arises. A good place to shop!!!

These guys are the ones everyone picked on in high school. A bunch or arrogant jerks, that think their hott S***. They dont let you use certain guns at their range, they over charge customers, and have the customer service of a brick wall. They only stay in business becasue they are the only local public range in the area. I cant wait until someone puts them back in their place

The worst service ever. These guys do not know what they are talking about. if you are active duty military or a legal immigrant you are in trouble, because they want you to take your utility bills with you since they have trouble reading the BATF form. Especially a know it all called Carl does not understand federal law so he makes his own. Go to the Sportsman's warehouse instead. Outstanding service by a knowledgeable staff.

Shooters Choice \r\n\r\n\r\nI visited Shooters Choice yesterday to do some rifle practice. I called before I\r\ndrove the 25 miles to make sure they were open. I had never used the rifle range\r\nbefore, only the pistol range. I told them I had rifles that fired 7.62 ammo and\r\nwas this acceptable. The gentleman told me it was fine.\r\n\r\n30 minutes later, I am standing in front of the Range Supervisor and he asks\r\nwhat kind of rifles would I be using today and I told me 7.62mm, an AK-47 and an\r\nSKS-56 - both semi-automatics. He pointed to the sign on the door leading to\r\nthe rifle range. I told him it was hard to read from North East Columbia so why\r\nwasn't I informed of this before loading up my firearms and making the trip. He\r\ndidn't have a response for me other than management had decided not to allow\r\nthese weapons on the range.\r\n\r\nI asked to speak to the manager and they said he was tied up at the moment. Then\r\nI called Shooters Choice when I got back home and asked to speak to the Manager\r\nand they said he was on vacation. I didn't think this was funny or humorous and\r\ndecided right then and there that my business dealings with this range is over.\r\n\r\nYes I was disappointed because I work at night and was planning on getting in my\r\ntarget practice, but I am really disappointed that Shooters Choice has caved in\r\nto the media scare on so called ""Assault Weapons"". Both my guns had the 10 ammo\r\nclip, not that it should have made a difference in my opinion.\r\n\r\nIn my opinion, if you believe in the 2nd Amendment and fighting those that try\r\nto take away our freedoms, through legislation and media scare tactics, then\r\nwhether you like AK's or SKS's or not, shouldn't matter. We should all protect\r\nthe right to using guns period.\r\n\r\nLast year I spent over $6,000 on ammo, reloading supplies, pistols and the use\r\nof the pistol range. Shooters Choice has caved in to the pressure and I will not\r\ngive them anymore of my money ever again. I have many shooting buddies that I\r\nhave contacted already and they couldn't believe the range has taken on this\r\npolitical stance. I will purchase what I need online from now on and use an FFL\r\ndealer for future gun purchases.

Well first of all, these guys are outstanding, the first day I went in there and told them I've never shot before, they gave me tips on what to do, and now I'm planning on joining competitions. Then I started on my rifle, a man named Russell helped me, get to know him, hes a really laid back kind of guy in yet he still knows what he is doing. (same with all the other employees) but anyways, its a very friendly environment, and the ranges are outstanding! If you plan on going shooting, your first choice should be shooters choice.

My dad likes guns; I just buy gifts for the man. The staff is very helpful! I had the specifications of the bullets and powder, and they helped me find what I needed. The selection looks to be pretty good--I know my dad shops here all of the time!

The prices seem pretty average, but I don't really have much to go on here!

Recommended, if only for the help from the staff and the shooting range.

PROS: Friendly, helpful staff.
CONS: High prices. Overwhelming if you're a gun newb.
