We were in for dinner on a Monday night at the recommendation of a friend. We were able to make a reservation at the time we wanted. I was surprised - wondering why it wasn't busier, it had come so highly recommended. I must say that I have never enjoyed a meal as much as I did this one. The Four Course Tasting Menu offered an amazing collection of sensory experiences that I will not soon forget - what a treat! We have been blessed enough to have dined all over the world from Dubai to Geneva, and I rank the meal we enjoyed at Sienna at the very top. Congratulations to Chef Ken and his staff for creating an outstanding experience of amazing tastes, excellent service, and enjoyable atmosphere. Overall - the meal, with a bottle of wine and tip was quite expensive (~ $300). But for us, it was worth every penny. I would suggest going as soon as you can - before it is discovered by the world and reservations are as difficult to get as they are at the celebrity chef restaurants in Las Vegas. Honestly - there is no comparison. Sienna has them all beat.

Pros: Taste of food, ambience

Cons: pricey

We went for my mother's birthday in January and ordered the expensive but extremely delicious tasting menu. This was the second time we had tried it and the second time we were blown away. Everything was off the cuff and we didn't know what we would be eating next until the server brought it to our table. Tuna Carpaccio, pig-cheek ravioli, braised sea bass, duck comfit to name a few of the exquisite dishes that we dined upon. Nothing was over cooked or under seasoned. Shear perfection. I recommend it if you have a special occasion or just want to spoil yourself for an evening. I?ve head they?re moving downtown. I?ll be sad to see them leave the island!

The service at this restaurant was horrendous! First of all, the "romanitic booths" the previous reviewer mentioned have a lovely view of the hostess podium and the plywood-lined wine room. The ambience in the restaurant was great, but my date and I didn't know that until we had to get up to use the restroom: if you go here, I would specifically request not to be seated in these booths that look like they were thoughtlessly put in a hallway as an afterthought. Our server was in the top 2 of the worst servers I have ever had. She acted like we were not there, and considering that our booth was right next to the bar, she passed us regularly to get drinks for her other customers. I wish we had been so lucky to get drinks from her; my date had to ask the hostess for more to drink. The waitress brought us some bread before our meal and literally tossed the metal bread bowl onto our table as she passed without even looking at us. The waitress acted like she was angry at us for being there- if she treats all of her customers the way she treated us, Sienna should reconsider her. When we told her that we didn't want an appetizer, the waitress was argumentative and asserted that we should order one since our food could take a long time.

On a positive note, the food was very good: it was presented very nicely and tasted great. Unfortunately, we were ready to leave by the time the food arrived. This restaurant did NOT live up to the hype: if you are visiting Charleston, do not waste the gas to drive out to Daniels Island- eat in downtown: we had a great experience at The Blossom Cafe on East Bay and at the Palmetto Cafe in the Charleston Place hotel.

Cons: EVERYTHING else

If you need just one reason to try Sienna, it'd probably be their chief chef, Ken Vedrinski. Before opening Sienna, he was formerly the executive chef of the dinning room at Woodland's Resort and Inn. Woodland is South Carolina's only five-star, five diamond luxury Inn.

- Food: sophisticated. The taste, the portion, the temperature, everything is just right, or almost perfect. Every visit to other nice restaurants (such as Peninsula Grill, Charleston Grill, Magnolia) in Charleston, I'd still rank Sienna the best. They seem to have paid more attention to details than others.

- Environment: the restaurant is located on the beautiful Daniel Island. Unlike other up-scale restaurants in Charleston downtown, you won't see a sea of tourists. The interior looks both modern and elegant. The main dining area is good for family gathering, business meetings or casual dining. You can see staff working in the kitchen. They also have some private booths available for a more romantic experience. At the entrance, there is a wine bar if you just care for an after-hour drink.

- People: service is good. There are times that they could have done a better job. But overall, very good. They won't be overly chatty or attentive. You know how some staff will check on you every 10 minutes, or right when you are pulling your fork out of your mouth.
