Yes, It is pricey, but sometimes its worth it. We stayed here one weekend. Loved it. Great staff very friendly and excellent service. They were eager to help with bags and get your car for you. The shopping is wonderful all around it including easy parking and access to walk the streets.

The Charleston Place Hotel is a charming luxury hotel in the historic center of Charleston, run by the Orient Express travel group. The rooms are stylishly appointed and the maids turn down your sheets at night. The hotel also features an inhouse mini-mall with fine stores. I would have given this hotel a great review, except for their billing practices. I stayed with a group from my business to attend a business conference. In adavnce, I had all of the rooms charged to a company credit card. My boss signed a contract that specifically authorized the room and tax charges. I brought this contract with me and the front desk acknowledged that all of our rooms were prepaid, and they were only collecting our personal credit cards for incidental charges. Much to my chagrin, even though my boss's credit card was run in advance, everyone was charged for their room. This trip was a reward for top performers in our organization, and it made me look like a heel when they found their cards maxed out! It took two calls to straighten this, and they never called to apologize or confirm the corrections, I only found out by viewing my AMEX bill online. When you run an ultra-luxury operation, you need to do it right.

PROS: Pretty luxury hotel
CONS: We got double billed--ouch!

This pretty hotel offers a timelessness that matches the city in which it resides. It's a member of the Orient-Express Hotel group, whose swanky reputation it easily upholds. A horse and carriage, rather than cars, suits the circular front…
