i absolutely love mini critters! i have bought several pets from them, and always get a good deal, my most recent purchase is a green cheek conure with cage for only $350. this store really has an exotic selection of pets not seen in any other pet stores in sioux falls.

they have everything from dogs, cats, parrots, rats, mice, hamster and there exotics like, hedgehogs, chinchillas, iguanas, saltwater fish, large oscar fish, and about 40 other things!

this is my favorite pet store in sioux falls and i know a good pets tore with my wide collection of pets!!

i have a conure parrot, dog, cat, hamsters, rats, ferrets, frogs, saltwater fish, freshwater fish, and i added a koi pond last year.

at one time i had 17 fish tanks running in my bedroom all filled with wonderful fish from mini critters!

i hope to some day work at this fine pet store

We went to check out the store and look at puppies. We found one that was playful and alert and very cute but had a shaved leg. We had the store hold the puppy for us and came back the next day. A sales rep went through this huge speech about puppy hypoglycemia and forced us to buy all these products for it (which we have always had dogs and never had an issue with this). Not even 24 hours later the dog was completely immobile. We called the pet store and they had us take it to their vet. The vet said the puppy was fine. We took him home and he was semi alert till the next morning when again the puppy was completely immobile. We took him to another vet and this vet said the puppy had hyperglycemia and many other problems on top of it and had been giving IV's prior to us purchasing it. We took the dog into Mini Critters and were called dog killers by the owner. We investigated further finding the breeder and it turns out the puppy was only 4 weeks old and had been taken away from its mother at 3 weeks. We left the dog with them but only after contacting a lawyer did we get our money back. Horrible pet store that supports puppy mills. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS STORE!

Mini Critters sold us a dog that was DEAD in 3 weeks. We did an autopsy on our puppy and is showed our puppy was in very poor health overall and that the main cause of death was from Emaciation. Right away what this mean to Mark at mini critters was that we starved our 8 week old puppy to death and they stopped returning all of our calls. Knowing this was not possible from the amount of food our dog ate on a daily basis. I wanted some answers from the vet and the hospital that did the autopsy and they said this was probably the last thing we did and Mark who calls himself a professional should know this. And here is what they told us that MARK from mini critters denies, because he is obviously completed uneducated on the breed of dogs he sells and where he gets them from.
Mini Critters obtains their puppies from breeders who are FAR from being top of the line- The reason our dog was so poorly malnourished was due to the fact that these breeders wean these small breed puppies WAY too soon which means they are in for health problems and most likely destined for a life cut short because of greedy breeders and business owners. The vet is 99% positive our dog had diabetes and had diabetes when we purchased him. They are pretty sure that this also led to his death because of possible low blood sugar in his system at the time of death but that cannot be determined on an autopsy.
Mini Critters tried to make us feel like we were poor pet owners when everyone who knows us knows WAY better- we treat our animals like our children. When someone from mini critters called 2 weeks after we bought our wiener dog to do a checkup I told the girl that this dog has been eating like crazy and we have to kennel him so our other dogs could eat their food without our puppy going after it also.
After speaking to hundreds, probably thousands of people I have yet to hear ANYTHING positive about this place. I wish we knew this before putting our family through this tragedy of coming home to play with a dog that was stiff as a board in his kennel one night. There is nothing mini critters will do for us even when they know they are at fault but it is definitely my goal to make as many people aware in the Sioux Falls area what a horrible place this really is. And plus after speaking to employees there who actually told me the MARKUP on their puppies. INSANE! What a crooked cruel place.

Pros: They had the dog we were looking for

Cons: It was dead in 3 weeks

This store has a variety of everything for all the pets you might have. They also have dogs to buy and sometimes some kittens, birds, rodents, fish. Very helpful and knowledgeable people. I love their rows and rows of fish tanks. They always seem to have a fish or two that I've never seen before. They have all the supplies for the fish as well. I like going in to look at all the puppies and see all the different breeds they have.

PROS: Wide Variety
CONS: none

This is a smaller store that is kept very clean and has a variety of products. They do have some dogs and other animals that are available to buy along with many other products.

Mini Critters is one of the only places in Sioux Falls to buy puppies and kittens, and their selection is pretty good. However, buying a puppy from a pet store is never a good idea and can lead to a whole bunch of problems. I personally purchased a puppy from MiniCritters who we've had a really tough time potty-training since he was kept in a small wire cage and was able to potty when he wanted to. Please check with your local humane society or a local reputable breeder before purchasing a pet from a pet store.
