I tried out other dojangs before I decided on Mr. Wadkins. I was impressed the first time I met him. He allows potential students to take several classes for free before you decide whether or not to join. Just sign the waiver and your good to go. I believe that my son attended about 2 weeks before he was an offical student. (I do know that there are schools that do not offer this....you pay for the trial classes. We tried this at another school before this one.)

His class sizes are not too large. He is excellent with children and he has my child begging to go to class everyday. My child is far from lazy but he is not one to stick with activities. My child also has ADD and is sometimes difficult to deal with. I dreaded this when he said he wanted to take these classes. However, he has taught my son self-control. I know this is no small feat for impulsive children. He respects him and strives to excel in his class. I have all the respect in the world for this guy.

His classes are not overcrowded and he is very reasonable. There are two of us taking it for less than what it would cost for one student somewhere else. (yes....I price shopped. In this case cheaper is better. This man is a wonderful teacher.) He also offers "conditioning classes" for the adults at no additional charge. He offers classes 5 days a week and his classes are fun.

He also teaches the children how to get out of "bully holds". That's not what it's called, that's what I'm calling it. He shows them how to get someone off of them in a schoolyard fight without fighting. AND THE BONUS thing that really caught my eye is how he showed them if someone ever tried to grab their wrist or choke them HOW TO GET AWAY! Yes, I was delighted to see my elementary school age child able to get out of a choke hold and the possibility of getting away from someone if he had to.

He cares how the children do in school also. School comes first, Tae Kwon do second. He is amazing.

Pros: Smaller classes, very reasonably priced, excellent instructor

Cons: not open on the weekend....but who can blame him?
