At least they got the name right. It?s a ?meat and three place? and they?re all the same. You get a hunk of mystery meat and a spoonful each of three different greasy vegetables that all taste the same. They toss two pieces of rock hard cornbread on top of it and you?re supposed to wolf the whole thing down in the 20 minutes you?ve got before you have to be back at work. I?d rather eat a Snickers?more nutrition and fewer calories

I was visiting Nashville and felt welcomed right away when I entered this restaurant. I'd read a favorable description of it in FROMMER'S GUIDE TO NASHVILLE and made it one of my destinations. White Trash Cafe is decorated with memorabilia, but it is not gaudy. In fact, the lights are low, so that, even with sunlight coming in through the front window, you have a feeling of privacy. The name, of course, is humorous, but the affection behind the whole enterprise is genuine. I had smothered chicken with two sidedishes, coffee and a very tasty banana pudding. It was comfort food with a difference: a dash of wit. My pudding had Nilla Wafers and bits of cereal in it. The pudding was heated so that the natural flavor of the banana was enhanced.
I enjoyed it.

The food was pretty good, although my meatloaf was dry around the edges. The whole place looked like it could use a good cleaning and their health inspection score was only 84. There wan't anything fun or wacky going on like some other reviews have described. Also, they no longer serve breakfast.

The White Trash Cafe has the best food in Nashville. They treat you like family. We travel through Nashville several time each year and always make it a point to eat here. We even made a special trip to Nashville to attend their Dinner Theater (had a blast). I have recommended it to all my friends.

After being told that Nashville had the nicest people, I visited and found very few. I was really disappointed in hospitality until I came to the White Trash Cafe. We went there because Arnold's was closed and we really wanted to try a meat and three. When we came in, we were greeted with a warm smile and a "what can I get for you guys?" Lynn, the owner, is amazing! This man has the perfect attitude for the establishment because he's got a great sense of humor and treats you like an old friend. Knowing that I came from California, he brought out my dessert in a disneyland mug to make me feel closer to home. I'll tell you one thing for sure, that banana pudding puts a smile on my face every time I think of it.

I'm thinking of moving to Nashville and can already say that I've gone to a place that will be a regular visit for me. The food was great and the company and decor only made it better. This is by far my favourite place in Nashville. I'll take the White Trash Cafe over a stuffy restaurant or trendy eatery anyday! Lynn, you're my hero!

As a tourist to Nashville we found this place on City Search and thought we would give it a try.

It was worth it!! The food was great - I had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and macaroni.

What sets this place apart is the decor: from the dirty tub and toilet displayed outside to the decorations inside, you get the full "white trash" experience here.

We also had great service. Our waiter was able to tell us many tales of Nashville to keep us interested the whole time.

Whether a tourist or local I highly recommending making the trip to White Trash Cafe.

I came here to read reviews and was shocked at the reviews for White Trash Cafe. This has to be one of my all time favorite places to eat in Nashville. I eat there once a week or more. The food is always amazing . I think once I went there and did not care for the texure of the steak the owner promptly apologized brought me something else and a dessert on the house..and the atmosphere is just fun. The decor is like Jeff Foxworthy's granny's yard sale gone wild. Every time you go you see something different that you remember from a relatives house that you hoped they would never give you as a gift. lol The service was friendly. They even offered to prepare sweet potatoes special for me because they were not on the menu till the next day.
They offer a choice of every day items that is supplemented by the daily specials. Some of the more popular side items like their homemade Mac n Cheese do run out early. (note to gentleman with the whiney review here). But they are always ready to whip something else up. The owner is often seen sitting with customers like an old friend who is glad to have you come and share a meal.
If you think that many Nashville restaurants take themselves too seriously then you will love the informal atmoshphere and friendly down to earth folk you find at White Trash Cafe.

I had a coupon to this restaurant in my Entertainment Book 07. Thought I would try it out as I love meat and 3's. We went on a Wednesday. 2 of the 5 vegetable offerings were sold out. Whoever heard of running out of mac & cheese? Anyway, I had liver and onions, green beans, mashed potatoes and a roll. The liver and onions was beef liver, not calf liver as I was expecting. (Should have asked first, I know.) It was as thin as cardboard and tasted like it had been cooked last week, inedible. The mashed potatoes had the skin on and tasted dirty. The green beans were the most acceptable thing I ordered next to the iced tea. The roll was hard as a brick. My friend ordered roast beef, pinto beans, and mashed potatoes. She agreed with me on the potatoes; her pintos tasted like bar-b-que beans and she said the roast beef was okay. After 4 or 5 bites we paid and left. Total waste of $13 w/coupon. Never again. Should be closed down.

My boyfriend and I went in here this past saturday afternoon and I have to say this was by far and away the WORST food and service that I have ever experienced. My BF had the catfish, mac'n cheese, & potatoes and I had the BBQ chicken, mac'n cheese & red beans and rice. My BF said the catfish was edible but salty however the rest of the meal tasted like instant from a box. My BBQ chicken was the worst tasting stuff I have ever had, I almost doubt that it was chicken. When I asked her to just take it off the bill as i had just barely touched it she looked at me like I was asking for a lung. Since I have moved on to the service, the server was crazy enough to say that she was the only server and she was sorry, well we looked around and there was only one other couple in there. The point is the food and service was horrible, maybe we were at some twisted twin sister of the same name becasue the reviews that we read leading us here and the actual experience were night and day.

The White Trash Cafe was the first stop my husband and I made on our way into Nashville for a no kids getaway over New Years weekend. And we are so happy that it was! It was the perficet start to a VERY fun weekend in Music City. The decor of the place had us giggling vefore we even went in and it was even more fun on the inside! The food was great and the people there were even better! They could not have been any nicer and they made my husband and I feel like part of the family. We had perfectly cooked eggs, potatoes, grits and bacon that they maple cure in house, I was practically licking my plate. Before we left, they brought us a little bowl of their turnip greens they were going to serve on New Years Day... they were so good, my husband talked about them the rest of the weekend. Needless to say, we made the last stop of our vacation a return trip to The White Trash Cafe for a fabulous lunch and more friendly conversation. We feel like we have friends in Nashville now and will make a point of going back to thes fun, friendly, delicious cafe every time we can!

My wife and I had breakfast here last week, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We both cleaned our plates! The potatoes with onions are some of the best I've ever had. Everything else was cooked exactly as we ordered and tasted great. My wife likes peanut butter with her pancakes so she asked the owner if they had any. He checked, and discovered that they didn't have any. He then was nice enough to walk across the street to a market and purchase peanut butter for her ! We were very impressed by this.! We definately will go back if for nothing else than the decorating, which is (to say the least) interesting...

My sister and I came to Nashville from Chicago for a short visit. We had read about White Trash Cafe on City Search and put that on the top of our list of places to visit. We had the best time there. The food was great. I only wish I could have eaten more. The nana pudding was to die for. You feel welcome from the time you walk in the door till it's time to leave. The zany lady at the register should be in the movies. The waitresses were excellent. They did everything but cut the meat and feed it to us. And they probally would have if we asked. Our coffee mugs never were empty and believe me we drink a lot of coffee. The young man who owns the place was friendly and spent a lot of time talking with us. We would have loved to buy a cook book of all his great recipes. The cole slaw and cucumber salads were my personal favorites. If he ever decides to open a Cafe in the Chicago area it would be great to work for him. I hope he opens more Cafes like this. The other diners were also very nice. Everyone was chatty and seemed to be enjoying themselves. The prices can't be beat. If you go bring along a camera and take a picture in the bathtub that sits outside.

We had a party of 18 and had made arrangements before hand. When we arrived everything was setup and the employees were so accommodating and friendly. The atmosphere was very fun. Looking at all the crazy stuff inside was the best part. The service was very quick and accurate. We really enjoyed the white trash cafe and would recommend it to anyone who lives or is going to visit Nashville.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Art is What You Can Get Away With, but ambience aside, when you want some of mama's home cooking without the hugs or the nagging as the case may be, The White Trash Cafe is the place to forget the real world and indulge in the comfort of chicken and dumplings, or chicken any old way that mama or grandma would make. The potpies are a nice big serving and taste like you remember. On Fridays, you might want to get there before one if you really want some catfish. Yes, I am southern, and yes I love my beans and taters. I love all the beans here, especially the bowl of white beans and cornbread. The taters not so much; I don't care for skins in mashed taters. The breakfast taters however are wonderful, skin and all. I had the taters and onions and they were better than I ever make at home and I've been practicing for years. The eggs were done how I asked, and the biscuit tasted real. The coffee was good and kept coming. This was my first breakfast at the White Trash, but it won't be the last.

The place is unique and fun...lots of "off the wall" decor. We had read so many good reviews about the restaurant that we were really looking forward to having a meal there....but when we got our meal we were SO dissapointed! I had the blackened baked catfish and my partner had the meatloaf. The blandest meal we have had in a long time. The sides (mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, peas) were also very bland and below average.

The explanation to this could be that these other people that have written reviews had really bad meals when they were kids....I would not recommend the place.

If you have discerning taste buds and like restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory, Morton's, PF Chang's, Carraba's, etc ...........don't waste your time here.

It was great. All the way around. The food was just like you'd find at momma or gramma's. Smothered chicken was FABULOUS!! Great service, but in a family member to family member kind of way.

Fun for all, kids, dates, co-workers and anyone else!

The outside of the cafe doesn't do it justice as once inside one instantly knows that they are in for real comfort food that can compete with any other restaurant bar none. The servers, especially the owners, have their jobs at entertaining down to a science with the right cool approach, even for someone from Northern CA. The food and prices are right on for what one receives - a wonderful bargain with one leaving feeling as if they have stepped back to their gran's kitchen for a Sunday meal after church. The French coconut pie was to die for. The professional friendliness in the cafe is what is missing from most other restaurants these days. Leave all thoughts of being treated like a diva outside the door and for sure do not track mud into the cafe as everyone is treated equal and as if they are indeed family.

This is a scary place to look at on the outside. I have seen this resturant on talk of the town, a show that is filmed here in nashville. This place is located next to the Fair Grounds in Nashville- A christmas we drove by and though wow- we should eat there and boy were we right! Yum yum. You cant find food like this anywhere! It was great!

Went to the dinner theatre on 07/16/05 .... food was average and we even got shorted on our dessert (it was apparent that they ran out, and our cups of banana pudding were considerably short of what we saw others getting) .... but the entertainment was over the top. We were novices and had no idea how to "play the game," but it didn't really matter. We had an awesome time anyway. And, if you dress up like white trash and tell them you're a cousin, you get $5 off your ticket price. Cousin Linder Lou was a great hostess, and the entire cast and staff made it a memorable event! I encourage everyone to give this place a visit. I only wish that they were open for lunch on Saturdays so I could take more people there!

I encourage everyone to give this place a visit. I only wish that they were open for lunch on Saturdays so I could take more people there!

Pros: Atmosphere, Food (Pro and Con), Family-Friendly

Cons: Food (Pro and Con), Parking, Hours

The decor is fun kind of like Pee Wees Playhouse. Our waitress was quick & efficient. There was a limited menu to choose from. I had the chicken & dressing with gravy with mashed potatoes & mac with cheese and corn bread. The chicken was very tender with a good gravy. The dressing was OK- kind of mushy. The potatoes were very soupy, probably instant, and not very good. The mac & cheese looked good but there was no cheese flavor. Probably the worst mac & cheese Ive had. The corn bread had no taste at all. It was like eating cardboard. I had the banana pudding for dessert which was very good- best part of the meal. I was under whelmed by the taste of their food but would like to go back on a Friday to try the catfish. The people were extremely nice.

I say memories as I use to go to the grocery store at this location when I was a kid living in Vine Hill.. I can still see how it looked back then... Love this place and love to go over there every chance I can.

We enjoyed our meal tremendously. It was like going to your Aunt's house where she'll wait on you, but only to a certain extent. Some things you just have to do for yourself. Stretch, the waitress, kept up with my Dad's ongoing repartee and gave back as good as she got. The food was great. I had broiled catfish, the rest of the party had the fried catfish. The mac & cheese was creamy, the red beans & rice zesty, and the coffee hot. We'll definitely come back again.

For lunch, arrive early.

There's about 8 of us who go once a week from the office. It's now a tradition. We all love it. We go on Tuesday's every week. They have the best fried chicken you have ever tasted.

This was a fun, tacky, place. The BEST Catfish I've ever had and the sides were just as good. We got there after the lunch rush and they ran out of most of the sides. Next time I'll get there early.

I was so surprised about the contents of the White Trash Cafe. Besides the food being incredible the people working there are just as fasinating. I asked the owner where he hired his workers and he said he hires charactors not workers.. He want people to remember everything about the White Trash cafe,I look for it to be the next loveless cafe ..

At this restaurant you will find an eclectic crowd of people ranging from construction workers to CEO's. It is a very funky but casual restaurant. The food is fabulous. My only complaint is the restaurant closes at 3:00.
