We think this is the best pizza we've found so far that Nashville has to offer. Stop being such babies about the argumentative staff. That's part of the charm! So they argue... They've never actually killed anyone.

I used to go to Manny's when I worked downtown. Now that I work in Franklin, I enjoy Joey's. Real NY pizza with High quality and quantity!

Contrary to other reviewers, I found the family very nice and cordial. They were willing to talor my order to what I wanted without any "soup-nazi" type of attitude.

Cannot wait to get back!

Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere

Cons: Closed for dinner/weekends

.

First of all, the food is absolutely incredible. The pizza is amazing (Pepperoni & double-stuffed meat lovers are the best), but everything is great.

Joey & his family are true New Yorkers. If you're lucky, they might just yell at each other (or you!) while you're there.

You will never forget Joey's.

Pros: Incredible food, colorful staff.

Cons: Closed for a WHOLE week around July 4th

As an out-of-towner visiting Nashville, the place was a bit hard to find, but well worth the search. Just one slice of the highly recommended double-crust meat lovers was more than enough for this big guy's appetite. My wife and I were surprised to find tiramisu at a NY style pizza spot, but wow... that stuff is to die for. By far the best restaurant I've visited in the Nashville area.

I've seen some of the other reviewers talk about the attitude at Joey's - while it is true that this restaurant is far too busy for casual "make nice" chitchat with the customers, I have consistently pleasant and EFFICIENT service at Joey's.

But it is really the food that makes this place so great. I frequently call ahead to order a whole pie to take home. They are generous with their toppings and each pizza is of highest quality. Because I don't like reheated slices (anywhere), I order a salad or pasta when I go at lunch - delish! A potential negative, neither of the ladies who work behind the counter has a very loud voice, even when on microphone, so you have to listen hard to hear when your order is ready. This is especially true at lunch, when it gets noisy at Joey's.

I was visiting relatives for the first time in Nashville. They know of Joeys house of Pizza, because of their son Eric and the great tasting food given there. So I tried the Chicken Parmesan, my husband tried the Pizza, and our family members had Lasagna and we all had salad. This food was incredible. I had a taste of everything. The salad dressing was just olive oil and vinegar, spices; yet it was the best tasting dressing I've had. The Pizza crust was to die for ; I took just one bite and it was soft, warm yet crusty bread. The lasagna had some great tasting meat on it, and the canoli's where crisp fried and melted in my mouth. The Tiramisu was light to swallow yet delicable. I would rate this as the best italian food I've ever had, I dont care what it costs. And the atmosphere is comfortable come and you are. And Fillippi's Pizza Grotto in San Diego used to be my favorite. Sorry Filippi's, Joey wins hands down.

I LOVE Joey's! We have been going there since coming new to Nashville! The food is always awesome...always hot...and always fresh! I have NEVER had something old or cold or stale...so I have NO CLUE what these people are talking about! They have NEVER run out of pepperoni or mushrooms or anything else...even right before closing! Yes, there's a line at lunch...because the food is AWESOME! Every restaurant that has great food always has a line! I have eaten pizza in Chicago and New York and Joey's is the best!!!! An authentic NY pizza pie in Nashville! If you're lucky maybe you can ask Joey to make you a sicilian pie....the BEST!!!!

I am a fellow NY'er, and I don't have attitude.....so, I think if this family would TONE DOWN the attitude (especially the daughter) and RELAX......our experience would be more pleasant...life is stressful enough OUTSIDE the doors of Joey's restaurant (real life)....we don't need to feel the stress YOU guys add to our dining experience! I would like to say, however, that they have a family business in Spring Hill run by a lovely couple that we will be visiting again and again!

Joey's House of Pizza is truly one of a kind,,,
It is always wonderful and the hard working family makes me smile :). They work so fast and efficiently right before your eyes, you can't keep up with them! I am embarassed for people who don't appreciate a 'real deal' Brooklyn slice of pizza.. [like the review beneath mine] If it doesn't have the 'drip' it is not REAL NY pizza!! And that's not 'grease' it's the natural oils from the cheese!! Joey's is the best pizza in Nashville and should be eaten with a smile because it is a rarity.. even in NY it's hard to get original pizza made with heart!
Thank You Joey's! You have made me a customer for life!

Judging from previous reviews, people are crazy about this place, so I decided to give it a try a few times. The first time I went I got plain cheese because if you can't get the fundamentals right, toppings are irrelevant. My slice was lukewarm. It had an OK taste, but certainly nothing like a true Brooklyn style pizza (lived in NY for a stint, so I've been spoiled, I suppose). I'm assuming this had something to do with the fact that the slice had been sitting out. The second time I went I tried a slice with sausage and veggies. The sausage was quite good, but the pizza itself was still mediocre and dripping in grease (more so than with any other pizza place I've been to). But at least it was made to order. The third time I went, I tried the calzone. I asked for pepperoni. Didn't have it. Asked for mushroom. Didn't have it. I was somewhat perplexed that a pizza place didn't have any pepperoni. Turns out, they just had made a bunch of calzones earlier that day, and all the pepperoni and mushroom had been eaten already. So, I had to pick from 3 calzones that had been made hours earlier. They tasted like they had been sitting out for 3 hours. So much for quality.

The owners are clearly from NY, so it baffles me that 1. they can't get the pizza quite right and 2. your food isn't necessarily made to order. NYC is a mecca for great food and freshness and I'm pretty sure re-heated pizza wouldn't fly up there!

Poor dawgfan1982 wouldn't know good pizza if it landed in their lap.

Now I can agree that many Nashvillians haven't ventured to the Northeast and wouldn't understand what makes a pizza great. However many of us, myself included, have spent quite a bit of time traveling to the New York metro area and can appreciate a properly made pizza. Joey's is most definitely on par with many of the eateries up North.

I can say that I have gained tremendous perspective after dining at every one of the Top 10 pizzerias in America (as rated by Epicurious). If you haven't eaten at Frank Pepe's in Connecticut, or even Letizia's, you aren't prepared to accurately judge other pizzas.

The only two places in Nashville that can compete on a national level are Joey's and the 2 Pizza Perfect locations. And no, you can't make a proper judgment by ordering a cheese or pepperoni pizza. Please! A true taste test should be determined by an establishments finer toppings; roasted garlic, feta cheese, peppers, artichokes, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, etc.

Joey's House of Pizza is incredible, and their peppers are probably the best I've ever had. The cheese and sauce are a delicate balance and it's well worth the wait for what you receive in return. A little longer wait than Pizza Hut or Papa John's, but that's not REAL pizza.

And by the way dawgfan1982, too much grease and cheese on a pizza? Are you kidding me? Stick with Domino's or Red Barron's freezer pizzas my friend. That will suit you just fine.

Take a note that if you aren't ordering a whole pizza, your food won't be made to order, including calzones. Thankfully, I wasn't getting a calzone. They had been sitting out for God knows how long and looked questionable at best. I waited in line for 45 minutes to receive 2 slices of pizza. They were good, but not worth the lengthy wait. The pizza itself was extremely greasy -- probably the greasiest I've ever had. The workers are from Brooklyn and want you to know it. Harsh accents in loud, nasal voices greet visitors. Seems a bit contrived, really. You are from New York - we all get it.

Of course, I'm not surprised that native Nashvillians rave about this place. Locals wouldn't recognize a great restaurant if it opened up in their own backyard. It's good, but it's not the best pizza ever, as I have been told.

In short, the pizza is good but not worth the lengthy wait.

We are new in town, and our landlord told us about Joeys house of pizza. We went there last Friday Feb. 27, 2009. They were very very busy, and treated us great. The pizza was really good, and finally a New York style pizza that was not just hype. We have gone to pizza shops in many states that claim to be New York style, but are not. I read some of the reviews said that the attitudes were bad there. We have only been there once, but like I said my landlord has also been going there for awhile, and we both have had great experiences. I also noticed that all the bad reviews sound like the were written by the same person. Lets face it, if you treat someone else like they are beneath you just because you are the customer, then you will get the same treatment back. Why knock a great pizza place like Joeys? They are doing a great job! If you do not want to take my word on the subject, look at all the 5 star ratings in favor of them. Like I said finally a true New York pizza.

I'm a native New Yorker and let me tell you.... Joey's is as good if not better than the majority of pizzerias in the surrounding areas of NY... such as Manhattan for example. Forget Ray's, you can't even compare that to Joey's. Joey's isn't rude! Please, if you think a family of hard working people like the one at Joey's is rude then you need to get a life! They have no choice but to be quick! They have a line that stretches from the cash register to the door that swerves into the street during lunch. They may be yelling at each other and moving swiftly only out of consideration for people with 30-minute lunch breaks. They are actually some of the nicest people I've met. Thank You Joey's. We all love you!! Don't worry about the haters, there's always a sour apple in the barrel.

I?m from New York. I don?t appreciate poor service. New Yorkers expect great service! The disrespect shtick wears thin. We?re not hanging out of a cab, we?re just eating Lunch. Joey?s is trying to dupe the natives into believing average pizza and a rude staff is somehow a New York Style. Joey?s ain?t no Lombardi?s, Joey?s isn?t even a Ray?s, and ?There?s a Ray?s on every corner? in New York. The great pizzerias in New York have Coal Burning Ovens. I don?t see anybody in this town building a fire trying to be ?real?. Joey?s is tourist pizza.

I went to Joey's in Brentwood for lunch. I ordered a slice of pizza and they opened a cardboard box that was sitting out and pulled out a slice and "freshened it up" in the oven. This is a direct violation of Health Codes! If this is how they handle food I must warn people to beware. All food should not be stored at room temp. I didn't eat and won't eat there, so I can't tell you if it was any good.

This place is unbelievable. Their food is extremely tasty and the service is amazing. Al of their food is extremely good but the pizza is the best I've ever put in my mouth. I HIGHLY recommend anyone that hasn't been there to try it! I personally guarantee you won't be disappointed and you will want to go back.

This place was fantastic. Going when it's busy is a tad intimidating.. These people go 100 miles an hour and you have to be ready with what you want. We went for dinner a couples days later and the environment was more calm. The staff was VERY nice and very appreciative of feedback (which of course was EXTREMELY positive cause the food is so good!). The pizza was fantastic! Our next step is to take home one of their pizzas and cook it in our own oven. Joey's is great and we'll definitely be back.

Pros: Great pizza, Good value

Cons: The place is a little crazy at lunch... Small price to pay at a great restaurant though...

I have been 2 Joey's 2x & both times I felt like it was such an inconvenience for them 2 serve me. Both times I went 2 pick up an order 4 my office. 4 pizzas, bread & salad. A big order if you ask me. The first time, when I called in the order, I asked 4 bread. When I got there, they didn't have any ready. The lady giving me my food said I hadn't ordered any. I replied that I had. She again said that I didn't. She asked me if I was the one who called it in & I said that I had. She told me they didn't have any bread ready so I couldn't have it & that I'd never asked 4 it when I ordered. I had, but regardless, instead of arguing w/me, she just should have started 2 make some. Finally the guy behind the counter put some bread in the oven. I then asked 4 an itemized receipt so I could submit my expense 2 my corporate office & she said they were out of paper & I couldn't have one. Her & her daughter started arguing about it & it ended w/her daughter yelling at her 2 just write a receipt w/everything on it. It's very uncomfortable 2 B in front of other people yelling @ each other. Today, again, my office wanted Joey's. I called in the order & I & a co-worker went 2 pick it up. We walked up 2 the cash register & told them that we were there 2 pick up an order. They were still working on it so we stepped aside 2 wait. The daughter then walked up 2 the counter w/two pizza rolls on a plate, looked @ us & said, "Ladies, you're rolls R ready." We thought she was talking 2 us & told her that that wasn't ours, that we were waiting 4 a 2 go order. She looked @ us & said, "I am soooo aware of that." Then, when we got our order, I made the mistake of asking 4 an itemized receipt. I asked the lady checking everyone out if she had a receipt w/everything I ordered listed. She said no & turned away 2 help someone else. No explanation or anything. It's bad 2 feel like such a burden 2 someone who is taking your money. The good food is not worth the nasty attitude & we won't order again.

I recently had a luncheon catered by Joey's. I got double the food for 1/2 the price of the luncheon Panera catered the day before. Everything was incredibly delicious and got rave reviews. My guests commented it was one of the best lunches they have ever had in while in Nashville. The guest are here for two days every month and eat catered lunch every time. Bravo to Joey's!

You must walk through these doors with an open mind to a different culture - A New York culture. The food is great, consistant, and I have never been let down. They have the best "slice of pie" around. If you want a real treat that will make your taste buds wake up, try the pepperoini & suasage roll - WOW! If you have not been to NY and want to really experience the true NY resturant experience, this is the place to go. Joey and his wife really bring it home. My wife and I have been eating at Joey's ever since they opened and the only time we get food like this is when we go to NY. So what are you waiting for - Go, eat, and enjoy!

Joey's house of Pizza is the best Pizza I have EVER eaten, and I have been to New York. I even work at a pizza place but I still go to Joeys. The entire family is amazing. All such hard workers and funny loving people. Yeah they have different attitudes than most southerners but they are new yorkers! The prices are great, go anywhere else and try and get the prices lower with the same quality. The food is always wonderful and its a great atmosphere.

Being originally from New York, I've noticed that it was very hard to find great pizza in this town. That was until a few years ago I went to Joey's House of Pizza. I go at least 2-3 times a week for lunch and every time it is great. Never have I had a bad meal at this authentic New York style pizza shop. Even when I bring friends, co-workers, or business clients along for lunch they agree that it is some of the best pizza they've ever had. Besides pizza they have fantastic sandwichs, fresh salads, and specialty calzones as well. Also I like to go there because of the super fast service and the great atmosphere. The reason why the food is so good because it is not rushed and is made to order. I highly recommend this restaurant to all pizza lovers and guarantee you'll never eat papa johns or pizza hut ever again.

I have never written a review on here, but my experience today made me feel it was necessary. My family has been eating at Joey's for years now. Their pizza is good (although not expecially consistant). We normally appreciate the New York attitude, as we are from New Jersey. Today, my father and I visited for lunch. When I asked for some to go boxes, a man behind the counter (who I'm pretty sure is Joey) yelled at me, telling me that I was getting paper bags because plastic is expensive. If we had ordered our food to go, it wouldn't have been more expensive, so what's the problem? When he handed them to me, I started to tell him that I wanted a box, and he looked me in the eyes and yelled, "WHAT!?!" I said it was fine, and we hurried up and left.
I've never experienced a manager of a restaurant being so rude. My father and I left quite furious. This all happened when they had a flyer up asking customers to vote for them on Citysearch. Sorry guys, you don't get my vote, and you no longer get my business.

If you want great Italian food with NY friendly service this is the place. We love their eggplant
parmigiana and their tiramusu. Great place for home cooked takeout food. We have also used
it a number of times to cater dinner parties and everybody loved the food. The Italian salad is one
of the best I had anywhere.

Highly recommend Joey's and this comes from an experienced source as we eat out every night
and know how hard it is to find healthy food that you don't get tired of and at a reasonable price.

I had the pleasure of trying out the resturant for the firsttime yesterday. The food was really great, but my sore spot was one worker behind the counter degrading the cashier. She was pleasant to customers, but publicly humiliating to her coworker rather loudly. The poor cashier was almost reduced to tears. A note to the owners and managers: If you want to degrade your employees - do it out of sight of the customers. I wasn't the only upset by this.

The phrase "Oh my God!" cannot begin to describe how wonderful Joey's is. I could not believe that the second time that we ate there, not only did they remember our last name, but exactly what we ordered from our first visit! Their pizza is definately authentic and insainely good! It is quite a welcome change from the commercialized cardboard that the chain restaurants claim to be pizza. I have reccomended Joey's to all of our friends and co-workers. Delicious!

I am a greater NYC transplant and 60% Italian to boot. I have been living in the south for about 4 years now and have done nothing but complain every time I've eaten Italian. Well... since finding Joey's I have no reason to complain anymore. Their food is wonderful. Their pizza crust doesn't flop when you pick it up and their canolis are made the right way... with ricotta instead of whipped cream or whatever the rest of the italian restaurants in the south put in them. When you order a side salad, it comes with oil and balsamic dressing topped with salt and pepper just the way my italian grandmother used to make it. My favorite dish at Joey's is the eggplant parmesan. It is divine! It's made correctly and the eggplant just melts in your mouth. There are a lot of places up north that can't make eggplant parm as well as Joey's! It really is excellent. It reminds me of the way my great aunt makes it. Absolutely delicious.

Then there is the atmosphere. There is a dark haired, Italian man (Joey) in a white t-shirt and jeans standing behind the counter tossing pizza dough... and he knows what he's doing. Plus, the family that operates the restaurant really is from NYC and they have the accents to boot. My husband and I just love it. It absolutely feels like home! Thanks to Joey's for opening in Brentwood and saving all of us northern transplants from having to eat lousy Italian food!

Being a southern girl who lived in Manhattan for 10 years, I really did not know pizza until I lived in NYC. All the differnt things New Yorkers can do with pizza amazed me and I was rewarded with a few lbs. Totally worth it though. Then I got tired of BIG city living and came home to TN, but I can now get my fix at JOEY"S. Pizza and TIRAMASU!!!!!!!!! Life is grand!!!

If you haven't tried their pizza, your missing a treat. Also try the chicken parmigiana sub. It's a wonderful treat for your mouth! Love you guys!!

As a NY to Nashville transplant, I can really call Joey's a slice of NY.

The pizza is perfect - the only "real" pizza I've found here. I love Joey, Chris, and the whole staff - they feed me well and treat me like family.

I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the food is here. If there were a rating higher than Highly Recommended, I would use it.
