.

My mother had knee replacement surgery at Vanderbilt recently. I stayed with her while she was in the hospital and was absolutely appalled by the horrible care she received! She was in the orthopedic ward, and the nurses were rude, mean and anything but helpful. Her first nurse actually argued with us for hours about a problem my mother was having and refused to call her doctor. So I did, and the doctor said it was a good thing he was contacted. I reported that nurse and had her banned from my mother's room. The next one constantly complained about her job, her co-workers, and when my mother would get in a very painful position for her to do something, she would stop and talk to the CNA. She did this several times, and when I asked her to please hurry because my mother was in a lot of pain, she gave me a dirty look and asked the CNA, "Who is this?" So...I reported her and had her banned, as well. I ended up filing several "formal" complaints. Yes, it was that bad! In a nutshell, over a 10-day hospital stay, my mother only had a couple of nurses that should have actually been nurses. And that was just the beginning. The person that set up my mother's therapy ordered an incorrect "range of motion", and due to that, the physical therapist my mother saw ruptured her tendon! My advice...if you don't HAVE to go to Vanderbilt...Don't!!!!
