Its better than sushi from a grocery store, but that's about it. If it were priced according to the quality, I would say it is worth a visit. I've been to reputable sushi restaurants and paid far less. They have more than 1 deep fried roll, which I find foul, that cost $11. Along with bento boxes at $15(arguably $4 worth of taste), that should sum up the pricing of everything they have to offer.
Not trying to bash the place, but I think the pricing is due to the convenient 4-40 location and rather ridiculous. If they got a bit more reasonable, might give them another try with some sashimi to go.

Crave it on a regular basis! Their crunchy shrimp rolls and their crazy rolls are amazing!! They also make you different little desert sushi every time and I can't wait to see what it's going to be and to taste it! Love it!!!

I have tried this restaurant on several occasions and have never been overly impressed with the sushi. The last time I was there, I tried tuna and salmon, both of which were mushy. Also, the rolls are almost all fancy, fried, and expensive. About vegetarian options: I have a friend who does not eat any meat (even fish) and she had a hard time finding anything to order. She ended up ordering veggie tempura, which I think she liked, but that's lucky because she didn't have many other options. Basically, I have made maybe 4-5 visits here, and each time I am disappointed. I think I will stop giving them chances.

This is one of the few places you can go near here and not end up paying premium prices for so-so food. The food is good, and there is a great variety of multi course meals for under $10. The service is not very good. They won't refill you glass unless you specifically ask. The prices on the food and the presentation make me give it 5 stars anyway.

My experience: dined with them once and got charged 9 times the price of my meal, finding out about it a month later from the credit card company. After it became clear that the error was theirs, they did not admit their mistake, forcing me to go through the dispute process. Yes, the mistake was an isolated event, but they could have owned up to their fault, absorbed the charge, and kept a happy customer.

***Their handling of the situation shows, in general, that they do not put the customer first***.

I used to go to Tenno all of the time for lunch. Then, as I was about to call in an order a co-worker told me they had just recieved a poor health score. Recently, I decided to try them again, after checking that their score had improved. They used to be very accomidating when I asked to make substitutions (b/c I'm vegetarian). They are not so helpful now. Once, the waitress refused to ask the cook to make changes and another time when I called in to place a to go order she told me that b/c make just vegetable terriaki without the meat was not what teh cooks expected to do at lunch time, i could pay $9.95 rather than $6.95! That didn't make since. I won't go back!

Pros: the food tastes good.

Cons: They service is not good (not polite and either take a long time or rush you depending on their needs).

I must tell you that I have found my new fave sushi spot in Nashville. I have travelled the world and lived in asia and the Super Crunchy is by far the best! The service is good and the staff is quite efficient. The building is older and not a whole bunch to brag about, but who cares with sushi this fresh and affordable!

It's a must go for anyone that is a sushi-lover!

I always find good food and service when I come here. The sushi is fresh and tasty. The servers are friendly and attentive. I always see the same people working there whenever I come, which is comforting. You can get a cheaper meal than what this review suggests. I usually spend less than 25 for a dinner for two. The green tea is free and good, so order it. The miso soup used to be free, but they now charge 1.50, which was disapointing to find out. This place is also quiet and rarely crowded. Overall, a good choice for a quiet sushi meal, though Ru san's is still my favorite.

I am a very picky sushi eater, so when I first went to Tenno I got a hibachi meal and 1 roll to just try. The Nashville roll was the best sushi roll I had ever eaten, warm and full of complimenting flavors. Since then I have tried almost every roll on the menu and have loved everyone. The Shreveport roll and the Playgirl roll top my list! A definite must try for creative sushi lovers!

I can't begin to tell you how bad this place was. The rice in the rolls was mushy, they place smelled like dirty socks, & the service was sub par at best. You couldn't pay me to go back. I have never just stopped eating sushi out in my life... until I went here. Need I mention they actually have a roll called the "Org*sm Roll" disgusting on every level.

This place is great, it served as my introduction into the sushi world. I had previously refused to go anywhere near seafood that wasn't deep fried, because it would usually trigor my gag reflex. The owners of Tenno also double as the servers which makes the experience so much more enjoyable because they have a vested interest in making sure you have a one of a kind experience. Okay so back to the food, like i said before I hated the thought of sushi before I came here, but I had one of their california rolls and I was in love. I have never read any rave reviews of this place and wouldn't have even knew it existed if not for my wife, but I will recommend this place above any other in town. It's a laid-back atmosphere and the service is perfect if you just want to stop in for a quick lunch!!

Pros: Great food and service

Cons: There really aren't any if you like sushi

Tenno isn't much to look at inside or out, and it certainly isn't the most "hip" place in town to eat sushi. However, what it lacks in ambiance, it recovers with excellent food. I've never tried any of the Bento boxes, and the miso soup is nothing special, but its free. ALL of the sushi rolls I've ever had (which are many) have been great. Service can be a little slow when they are busy.

I went to Tenno because I had driven past it so many times and had read many raving reviews. I went for dinner and will never go back again. First, I had the intentions of ordering sushi for dinner, but found that at least of of their rolls contained cream cheese...I hate cream cheese in sushi and found no other rolls that I was interested in (and I eat all kinds of sushi rolls). So, I decided to order a chicken teryiaki bento box instead, even though it seemed rather pricey. I noticed that it came with tempura, salad, soup, sushi, friend rice, and teryiaki, so I justified spending a little more. The miso soup came first, and let me just say that it was probably the highlight of the meal. The salad was fine, but had the creamy carrot ginger dressing...I prefer the more solid/carrot based kind. The tempura was fine (but, how can you mess up fried veggies?!) and the sushi was fine but it was only 4 very small pieces. The rice was fried rice and tasted like it had been cooked in the microwave. It was VERY oily and chewy/crunchy...I couldn't even eat it. And worst of all was the chicken teryiaki. First of all, it was half chicken and half mushrooms...nothing else. My experience eating Japanese food is that teriyaki usually contains a mix of veggies. And, the sauce was tan and creamy...not like every other kind of teriyaki I've had where it looks basically like soy sauce. I took one bite and ate no more.

Tenno's service was not great, there was no atmosphere, and the food was terrible. Don't go unless you want to eat lots of sushi with cream cheese in it!

The quality of the sushi is excellent at Tenno. My two favorite rolls are the Tenno Special Roll 2 and the Playgirl Roll. The spicy tuna roll is SPICY, so beware! The edamame is well-cooked and well-salted. The last item of mention is the Big Daddy handroll. My friend talked me into getting it and it is amazing! I think it is the only handroll on the menu, it's pretty big stuff. If you like miso soup then you are in luck, you get free miso soup with your food. I, however, do not like it and unfortunately cannot substitute it with a salad. The service is a little weak. I went with 3 other guys and we all ordered various rolls on separate checks. The hostess/waitress/owner doesn't really know hospitality... she brought out 2 people's food while the other two were still being made. While my friend across from me and I sitting with our food in front of us waiting for the other two orders to come out, the owner comes by says "Why aren't you eating, eat now." And I told her we were waiting for the other food (as 5 minutes had elapsed to this point). She went and checked on the other food and came back to say it would take a few more minutes. The other issue we have is the price is slightly high compared to other places we've had sushi. It isn't outrageous by any means, just higher overall, so it adds up if you order a number of items. The food is definitely good enough to keep us coming back though.

This has become my favorite place in Nashville to eat sushi. I had always enjoyed Virago's and Ken's, but now Tenno is where in-the-know Nashvillans go. The staff are always nice and it's a very friendly atmosphere. Thanks Tenno!

I really loved this place. It was the first real sushi I had ever experienced. Now I've had much more, being from various places around Nashville and also in Australia, and I think Tenno does it differently than at least the average. Some of their specialty rolls, the Playgirl roll in particular, they use an amazing sauce over the top. Seriously, it'd make my knees weak if I wasn't typically sitting down when I eat it. They're a friendly bunch and while it is new management (and I can't compare to the old) they're doing their best. I recommend highly

Pros: Really great value and wonderful sushi. The Bento Box is a ton of food for the price, and as I mentioned in my review, some of the rolls come with the most delicious sauce.

Cons: They dont pay enough attention to subtlety. Handwritten signs on what looks like heavy construction paper, and ultra casual waitstaff. Some degree of language barier too

.

From what I understand, ownership of Tenno has changed recently. They've kept the name but the same person isn't rolling sushi anymore and the quality isn't what it used to be. If you've been there in the past you may be disappointed. I've changed my regular sushi place.

Living in Gallatin we have had to search for sushi. We found Nelson in Rivergate but then he left and we had to settle for sub par sushi. Then we found him at Tenno! It was great to see him and have great sushi once again. He is the best and even treats our kids to their favorites. He goes the extra mile with smile on his face. Thank goodness we work at Vanderbilt nearby so that we can pick it up on the way home.

I have never experienced any Restarurant that treats you like a friend instead of a customer. I have followed Mr.Kim since I had been a young toddler. I am now a senoir in College and I have yet met any Reataurant that has come close to Tenno's quality and service. Many of you might think How can a 21 year old know so much? But I am Asian and I have never eaten anything so close to home. Everything is fresh and athentic.

I have been a loyal sushi fan for the past 4 years. Since coming to college I have learned about this awesome food and thought that it was all the same...but I was wrong. Since eating at Mr. Kim's restaurant I realize that all sushi is not created equal. The sushi served at Tenno is fresh and decorative. The atmosphere and awesome service also adds to this restaurant's appeal. Because of the spacious dining area there is rarely ever a wait and my experience there is always relaxing and enjoyable. I tried several sushi restaurants and Tenno by far has the most reasonable prices and quality sushi. I HIGHLY recommend it. Go Tenno!

I could not believe it when I recently looked up Japanese restaurants on citysearch.com and found that Tenno had actually received a negative review from someone. I also live in the Sylvan Park neighborhood, and was just as excited about the restaurant's opening. They have yet to disappoint me with their fresh sushi and deliciously prepared entrees. Service is occasionally slow, but mostly only on weekends when their business is blowing up. I strongly recommend Tenno to everybody looking for great sushi and a friendly atmosphere, and I especially recommend everyone in Sylvan Park to take advantage of the short drive.

I have followed Mr. Kim from when he owned the Samari, to his new place at Tenno. It's my humble belief that he is the best in Nashville.

This comes from being a loyal follower for more than 10 years or more. I recomend Tenno to everyone I hear looking for a good place to get Shusi.

Pros: Presentation, Personality, Quality

.

Rats! My wife and I were so excited when this new sushi place opened only 2 minutes from our house. Sadly, Tenno is big on atmosphere but not on food. We both got sushi and a full meal and were pretty much disappointed with the whole thing. And this is NOT an inexpensive place! I'm sorry to say that we'll gladly drive the extra 20 minutes to get to a decent Japanese restaurant on the other side of town before we go to Tenno again.

After over a decade building a loyal following at Samuari on Elliston Place, Mr. Kim has finally done what he's talked about for years - with support from friends and family, he has greatly expanded his menu selections, service, and seating at Tenno.

In addition to his renown sushi and sashimi specials, Mr. Kim also guides an experienced staff in the kitchen for a full array of appetizers, cooked items and desserts, ranging from teriyaki salmon to frozen sake!

Give it a try - you won't regret it!
