Bread and Co has consistently disappointed me- why I keep giving them another try, I dont know- and I will not be giving them any more chances after today! Placed a to go order and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Arrived at B & C

What a rip off. Ran out of soup but was told there was some in the cooler for sale but we would have to take it home to reheat it. nice.
turkey salad bland, fruit tea sour ( manager said it was '' fine'' )
the attempt at flan was sad.. more like pudding.

very, very bad.

This company has gone downhill faster than a greased toboggan on Mt. Everest! Consider: Why is there still not a website after two years of "coming soon". Why are there fewer employees and higher prices? Why won't the owner answer any customers complaints, etc?

This company PLANTS REVIEWS on citysearch!!! I witnessed it although it was supposed to be a "secret at administration" but we heard about it and I witnessed it. Look around November 2006 through early 2007!!!! For ALL locations. Who are the one-time or few-time reviewers with the 5-star ratings in the middle of all the other negative feedback??? INSIDERS. Hiding the fact that the owner is off fishing all over the world with YOUR $$$ rather than caring about your purchases. Or enjoying one of two Belle Meade houses. If you are employee that won't be abused or who has morals - find a job somewhere else!!!! Mommy really screwed up giving sweet sonny this business - it was great before he took it!

Don't support the mentioned and unmentionable "habits" - Jersey Mikes and others will treat you right and have owners who care!!!!

My family has been eating at Bread and Company for years. Yes it is pricey, but the sandwiches are out of this world. Recently learned that our "13th is free" cards were no longer valid as they had transitioned to a swipe card as opposed to a hole-punch card. It was all fine and dandy until they informed us that they would not credit the swipe cards with the current hole punches we had for all of the other dozen sandwiches we had purchases over time.

Screw it, I'm done with the overpriced sandwiches and $3 cookies.

Jersey Mike's is so much better.

Pros: Food isnt bad

Cons: Pricing, lack of parking in most locations, screwing customers out of the 1 free sandwich a year

I have been eating on and off at Bread and Company for the past five years, specifically the Green Hills location. I have walked out of that restaurant several times saying that I will never go back, well this time I am sticking to it. I ate there yesterday and ordered a bowl of Tomato basil, a side of chicken pasta salad, and a small drink. After finishing most of my soup I looked in the bowl there was nice yummy inch long BLACK HAIR in the bottom!!! So I proceeded to tell the girl that I thought that she should know and she said in a smart a** tone "well thank you for letting me know". What? There was no apology, no wow that really gross, sorry for our disgusting restaurant....NOTHING! The staff is rude, the food is overpriced, the seats are uncomfortable, and the entire restaurant is just downright filthy!

As a first hand concerned outsider I am just wanting to alert the public of the following health concerns/instances that have happened at this business (not necessarily at this location as I am posting on all 4 locations) within the last 9 months, cause personally I would want to know if someone else knew of this dining knowledge. EEEEyuk.
Someone had some food catered in and she said she found mud in her salad.
Someone found glass in their meal.
A certain critter with antennas (not allowed to say the "C" word here on city search) was found inside with a meal, (I guess it was having a meal to) inside a to go container that was delivered from Cool Springs to a customer.
A customer complained of severe food (we're not allowed to say the "P" word either - so will say the outdated term which means the equivalant of Ptomaine), a few hours after eating at the Green Hills location )c:.
Unfortunately theres more, but these are the first 4 that pretty much amazed me.

**Please choose your dining establishments carefully when dining out or with friends and family. And please always write reviews regarding health concerns and bad service to warn your fellow diner.**

Cons: You might not want to have this experience

I live about 30 min. from B & C and i must say, rarely am I dissapointed when i make that trip downtown.(Vandy location) I will say they are slightly overpriced but the quality of the food is well worth it.(the Waldorf salad, and Almond crossaints are the best!)

We used to get along so well Bread & Co and I. I used to enjoy really good food for a fair price - yes it was more expensive, but you know the old adage "you get what you pay for." Well, not any more! I have been a loyal customer for years. My favorite was a half strawberry fields salad, no meat, some cranberry nut bread and tomato basil soup, fruit tea and occasionally I would treat myself to one of their amazing cookies and I remember getting out for around $10-12 but like I said not anymore - and here's why.
Around five months ago B&C went through a price increase and menu change eliminating the benefit of ordering a half Strawberry Fields salad to save a couple bucks to put toward some soup. When I ordered a half salad at both West End & Cool Springs I was faced with the same dilemma, the half salad costs the exact same as the whole salad? So, upon inquiring with the manager at West End I was told that the costs of everything had gone up and that the prices had to be passed on to the customer - which I understand, but then he explained that another reason was due to the fact that Vanderbilt students have a habit of coming in and leaving without paying!!! That completely shocked me! So, basically all customers of B&C are unaware donors to those Vandy students who chose to not pay! Well, OK.. I shrugged it off and gave them another chance. My LAST visit was about two weeks ago. I picked up a pre-prepared Strawberry Fields salad and asked the gentleman behind the counter what the cost was on a pint of soup, he replied $4.99, get up to the register the price had increased to $5.99! I mean the prices literally continue to increase from the ordering to the paying, so watch out! Upon asking about the difference in price I was told the person giving me the price had been away for about a week and there had been a price increase! Really AGAIN!! I get that prices are rising, but Soup & Salad for $16 seems way out of touch with the market.

The food is extremely good here. The employees do seem to be worked a little too hard and they always seem to be short handed. It is worth the wait. The food is excellent, soup is fantastic and the pastries are to die for!!! I go quite often for lunch. The lunches are a crazy time at this place, but as I said it is well worth it. I am hopeful that they will get more help, as sometimes I get back to work at the last minute. Many times the snobs of Belle Meade make it even harder on the people who are busting their tails to get their food in a timely manner. But, all in all, it is my most favorite place to eat lunch. (And sometimes dinner!!) They offer a wide variety of GREAT bread, and much of it is really GOOD for you!

I worked at Bread & Company for 4 months. I was supposed to receive a raise after 3 months and brought it up to my manager several times only to be disregarded. I was then told that I would receive back pay after my raise for the period after the three months in which I hadn't received my raise yet. I never missed a day of work and was at least 10 minutes early to work almost every single day, In fact I was never late one time. One day I came in to work and was then told I was fired. I asked the reason why I was let go and was told " I don't have to have a reason to fire you, I can fire you for no reason if I want to" or at least thats what the administration office told me. The store manager that let me go told me he didn't want to let me go and that it wasn't his decision. When I went to the administration office I asked to talk to the owner he refused to talk to me at all. I had seen the owner more than a dozen times in the store when he would come to get food for himself and only knew it was him because somebody else told me it was him. I don't know how many times he must have walked by me at work and never even said hello one time. I went to the administration office on multiple occasions to try and straighten out what I thought to be some kind of misunderstanding only to be treated disrespectfully and rude. They would only say they didn't have to have a reason. I then filed unemployment and it was granted when they filed a report which they stated their was no reason for my termination. I have never had a problem with any other previous or present employer. I have never felt as if I mattered any less to any employer and was totally humiliated!!!!!! All of the employees in Green Hills that don't have any association with the administration are great people!

Cons: UPPER LEVEL MANAGEMENT

.

I think so... bad service.. questionable quality.. high prices (which they blame on "oil prices".. however.. other restaurants seem to make it by just fine without raising the price of everything by a dollar or two) and management that obviously cares nothing about the customer. The food has seemingly become more and more bland with every visit, and it's apparent the employees are under-supported and overly worked. I feel sorry for them. With those ridiculous prices, I hope they're paid well.

The prices would be worth it if the quality and service were up to par... sadly, this isn't so. Avoid if possible.

I recently visited the West End store to get some of that awesome soup, I was greeted by a very nice and curtious young man, I believe his name was Rick or Nick, anyway, he really seemed like he cared about me and wanted to make the smile on my face even bigger, which he did. Amongst all the chaos of the lunch crowd, the standing in lines and paying for good quality food, this guy made it worth it for me, and Ill definately be back again.
Thanks B&C

I used to go to the Belle Meade store several times a week. The pasta is good although they have messed up my order a few times. Most of the staff is friendly but the place is filthy. The tables and floor are dirty. It is also very noisy and you have to wait so long to get your order. Now they have increased the price of their granola (which I really like but will no longer eat) and they have put it in a container which they said I could bring back to have refilled. No more bags of granola. They weren't sure what price they would charge to refill the containers. i won't be able to just stop by now to pick it up - I'll need to bring the container or pay another $4.00 and get another container. They added a pathetic excuse for a salad to the pasta and charged another $2.00. Some of their food is good but I have decided that I am tired of getting ripped off by the greedy owners. I'll gladly take my money to a place that is clean and gives me good quality and service for my money. I don't mind spending when I feel that I am getting my money's worth. Bread and Company certainly isn't giving me my money's worth any more.

Just back in town, i remember Bread and Company as a good place to go. Went to Cool Springs location. Did not know we had to fill out sanwich order sheet. Not one person Said a thing while we stook there. Others got sandwiches and went on. Finally some lady said did you fill out a sandwich order. She did not even work there. Then we went to get a salad, we stood and stood and stood. The guy helped the lady next to me, i pitched a fit then they finally helped us. They are over priced, rude and not helpful. The whole ordeal took over 35 minutes.

I think a lot of people who complaint about about prices need to go somewhere else. My friends and family have become regulars at the Bread & Co in Cool Springs. The staff is courteus and they know their bread. Their Deli is out this world as well as their bakery and fresh breads and let's not talk about their desserts. The dessert are the most satisfying for the most discrimnating taste buds!! I think Richard, Katie, Thomas are doing a great job at the Cool Springs Deli. Among others Christine one the associates in the Cool Springs Deli is so custumer service focus. I think that girls knows her bread!! Bread & Co will be always on my list of favorite places to eat.

Cons: Parking is almost impossible during lunch rush get there by 11:30 a.m.

I agree with the previous user who feels like this is an abusive relationship. Customers are obviously not appreciated and I assume the staff must be poorly treated and at the very least, poorly trained. The pastries are quite good but it's not worth the chaos, noise and cold. The place is very poorly arranged, acoustics are terrible, and the lines can go on forever, and are very confusing unless you're a veteran. Air conditioning is still on and t's too cold to sit and have coffee: yet, despite many complaints from regulars the owner won't turn the heat on. Definitely not recommended and I have gone from being a daily customer to visiting very infrequently.

I am kind of like a person in an abusive relationship when it comes to Bread and Company in Green Hills. I keep thinking they will change. And they do for a bit - - service gets great, staff gets friendly. Then they backslide. Order takers taking their sweet time at 7:53 am when I have to get to work. Lines of people waiting while a girl toasts a bagel and talks on the phone. Then, I say NEVER AGAIN. This time I think it will stick. The last time in B&C was the WORST. Service was at an all time low and prices were at an all time high. I'm out. I can get the same quality food next door at Noshville. Bye B&C ....it was fun at first.

I disagree with the last members comment for this reason:
Company's have price increases.
Company's have costs.
Companies have to price accordingly.
All different types of vendors give out price increases REGULARLY and that HAS to be factored into the cost of products if not immediately, eventually, or else the comapny is losing money, and will not be able to pay bills, employees, and will go bankrupt. Also, it's a growing comapany, it's not a coorperation like atlanta bread and comapany, and with that comes tremendous investment, cost, and risk. Furthermore, they are not a wholesaler, they ARE out to make some profit, just like any intelligent business owner would. I think there are tasty and unique offerings. they bake fresh bread and have fresh produce every day (just think about how much you spend on groceries at the store) which also means they waste fruit (whether it be old, sub-par, unripened, or bad in the first place) and bread EVERY DAY. That's a lot of cost to take into account alone. Their desserta are absolutely amazing, and dacadent, and a lot of work goes into them. You can make salads to order, they will even toss the dressing in the salad. Their pastry chefs are amazing and their labor is not free, they are professionals, not sweat shop laborors. I guess all I'm saying is you get what you pay for. top quality is not bottom dollar.

now they are limiting refills on those of us who bought their promo cups. promo cups were sold as buy one refill and then free refills for rest of the day. again, i understand cost, etc, BUT we are advertising for this company. come on Bread and Co. give your loyal customers some kind of break.

Pros: convenient for my work, salads are good... pastries have gotten better

Cons: prices, inconsistent food and service

.

I can't believe how expensive this place is. Not worth it. I was shocked to find out my favorite salad went up by 2 dollars. Ridiculous!!!!! Won't be eating there anymore. Panera Bread here I come!

Bread and Company was recommended by a friend. The food is good, but the restaurant was filthy beyond belief when we were there mid-afternoon on June 2. Every table was dirty, the floor was covered in trash and food, the display cases were covered in smears and fingerprints, the door was extremely dirty, the bathroom was not great. This points to an overall lack of attention to cleanliness, which concerns me regarding the kitchen cleanliness. The staff was not friendly and seemed to have an attitude. We had never been to the restaurant and could not understand how to order, and then had to stand around for 20 minutes for the order to be made. Very strange store layout, that does not make any sense at all. It would seem that this restaurant might benefit from studying the layout and ordering procedures of other bread-type stores such as Panera or Atlanta Bread Co.

I used to really like going to the Green Hills location. I really like the food but I've decided not to go anymore. The service is very unorganized, and they make you wait in two different lines to get one sandwich. One to order, one to pay, and then back to the original line to pick up your order. The guy at the end of the sandwich line was very rude, and didn't have any time for me. But he had plenty of time to flirt with another girl who works there. I got an order to go, and had to ask for a bag to put it all in. He acted annoyed and threw it at me to bag myself. I don't need to pay $12.00, and wait 20 minutes for a lunch that I have to work so hard just to get home, sorry. I've started going to Kallamatas in Green Hills instead! The customer service there is much, much better!
The cashier was very nice, however. He was the only nice one!

Cons: Not worth the wait and the attitude you get to deal with.

I'm from St. Louis and was in Nashville for a Hockey Tournament and also spent time with a couple of clients. One of my clients suggested that we meet at the Bread and Company near Vanderbilt. What a great experience. My son, 14 had the HUGE Omelet while I had an egg sandwich, which was equally large. When I picked up my order at the back of the store, I passed one of the nicest looking Deli displays that I have seen. I love potato salad, so I had to try the "Blue Cheese Potato Salad." (What a Find!)

My son and I liked the place so much that we went back 3 times in 3 days. I wish they had one in St. Louis!

Busy, yes, but certainly worth the wait. We'll see you again on the next trip.

Pros: Great Food

Cons: For Lunch get there by 11:30

At 9:30 am, ordered lunch to be PICKED UP at 11am. They gave me a hard time "Can't guarantee it will be ready, we'll try". Jeepers. This was for a BOARD MEETING. I requested to fax the order so they wouldn't screw it up. Only ONE item (out of 6!!) had any variation from the standard menu. They don't take fax orders (this is proof they SHOULD). I picked it up and they "inadvertently" left off one persons lunch and the 6 cookies I ordered as well. When I called back, there was no apology, nothing. They offered to refund the $ on the salad, but nothing more. They didn't even ring up the cookies. Will NEVER order or eat there again!! They were RUDE both on the order call and when I returned to the office.

I've never been a huge breakfast fan because I've always felt too rushed in the morning. But, being a new Mom I felt I needed all the energy I could get...recently I tried Bread & Company's omelets and now I indulge and have one every morning I can. I must confess I think I'm addicted. Seriously, if you love omelets go to Bread & Company over in Green Hills and have Chef Anthony cook you up something really good. They?re omelets are made to order and cooked up fast, even when I go in on a Saturday, and they have a nice list of ingredients to choose from, my fav is the mushroom, tomato and Monterey Jack, plus they?re HUGE. Really, these things are the size of those old cell-phones; you know the kind Zach Morris had on ?Saved by the Bell.? It?s funny now because I can?t see myself skipping breakfast, especially not when Chef Anthony is cooking. A New Mom needs all the HELP she can get!!

Almost everyday our office and its staff are involved in long, most of the time drawn out, meetings. I can?t tell you how many times I ate those nasty sandwiches from chik-fil-a, seemingly the only place close enough that one of our mail guys could go and get. Not ANYMORE! On Friday our accountant told us about ordering from Bread and Company, which everyone loved but never thought about doing. Sure enough, we called that morning and had a lunch order for around 20 people delivered straight to the office. Sandwiches, Salads, Soups, bread, we had a wide variety going on. If you are like us and it?s tough to get out, get a boxed lunch from Bread and company.

At Bread & Company just because it?s winter time doesn?t mean you
can?t enjoy the great outdoors. I love to sit out on their back deck,
especially on a beautiful day, but even when it?s cloudy and cold
they have heaters on their deck that supply ample heat and still give
me that pleasurable feeling of not having to be confined to the
inside of a store. Might sound funny but it?s one of those extra
things that make your eating experience more enjoyable.

Being somewhat new to Nashville (2 ? years) I?ve been constantly looking for that perfect breakfast/lunch spot that I can call mine. Recently I found just that spot! A friend of mine took me to a place she highly recommended and told me before hand what great salads and sandwiches they had, she even went as far as to describe some of HER favorite sandwiches and the ingredients they had on them (sliced apples!). My initial reaction to the store was positive, the wood-grain feel, with the long bar down the center gave the store sort of a cozy feeling. Looking at the menu and being impressed with the massive amounts of choices to choose from (the sandwich selection had 20+ choices!) I actually chose not to take my friend up on her recommendation of the Almond-Tarragon Chicken sandwich and instead went with my gut (or stomach, I suppose) and tried what sounded the tastiest?and so begun my love affair with Bread & Company?s Fresh Mozzarella sandwich. Quite honestly I?d never tasted anything like it and was almost embarrassingly impressed with how great the sandwich tasted, I kept telling my friend, ?this tastes incredible!? I was also given the choice of ordering an apple instead of the kettle chips, which seems simple but meant the world to someone trying to do their best with their diet. Our service was friendly, the atmosphere was cozy and the food was incredibly fresh. Looks like I finally found my spot.

I agree with what others have written about lack of staff, I go to the Belle Meade one often and they usually have only 2 cashiers...but other helpers milling about doing I don't know what. It's annoying to have a sandwich to go and get behind someone who's ordering loaves to be cut up and other special orders. This one is in a *prestigious* area of town and the staff sometimes acts that way too, which is way out of line. The food is good, and usually consistent quality. The sandwiches do appear to have gotten smaller in the past 3 months or so. They need to work on their soups, it would be great to find a place with really good soups to go and I have not found any in West Nashville. B & C's soups are too salty and don't have that homecooked flavor. Some of the desserts are very good, but many have that assembly line taste, meaning produced in large quantity and don't taste homemade. It never fails to amaze me how lacking Nashville is in great to go places. Bread and Company is very good and I know some think it's fabulous, but compared to other large cities and what they have to offer in the to go category, it's kind of laughable.

My workplace often orders several choices of box lunches from Bread & Company. My favorite is the chicken salad on cranberry nut bread. The chicken salad is generous and perfectly moist containing sliced almonds and garnished with tomatoes and lettuce. Their mild meaty chicken salad complements the sweet nuggets of cranberry and the crunch of walnuts in the sandwich bread which is savory not sweet. Included in the box are chips, a cookie and extra mayonnaise and mustard (which are not needed as the chicken salad is impeccably seasoned). Being served from Bread & Company makes contented employees who are agreeable to working through lunch.

I can safely say everything I've ever had there is excellent. Quality food expertly prepared. The staff is nice but spread to thinly. The problem is the patrons. The most snooty, entitled group I ever run into. It's safe to say I don't run in those hoity-toity circles, but when you get a good look you know why you choose not to be around them. Their entitled and they're in a hurry and they'll step right in front of you.
I don't go as often as I'd like to because of the patrons, but it is worth it a few times a year.

I am a huge fan of Bread & Company. The sandwiches are delicious, and the fruit tea is the best in town. Their breads are amazing and it's one of those places I feel just as comfortable eating by myself as I do with a large group. Quick, convenient, delicious...who could ask for more?

I have been here for breakfast and lunch at least a dozen times, and my food was delicious every time. I especially recommend the Tomato Basil soup, the croissant breakfast sandwiches 9made to order), and the various turkey sandwiches (made with real 'Thanksgiving style' turkey rather than deli meat). The deerts and coffe are also decadent. If you're in a hurry, grab one of the pre=packaged sanwiches made the same day- they are always fresh, and save a lot of time.

First time at West End. No printed menus, long line and we squinted to read the menu behind the counter. Finally got close enough to read our options when it was time to order. Tried to hurry and choose, while being glared at by unfriendly, unhelpful employees for taking too long. Ordered soup, had to get in another line for sandwiches. Another line to pay. Had to balanced trays on a tiny counter, jostled by other patrons to get drinks, napkins and utensils. Limited seating, challenging to navigate the crowd. Finally sat down to cold soup and sandwiches tasted like sawdust. Finished a few bites, wed had enough. Left and found one last irritation - small trash receptacles that required another balancing act while clearing our trays. Overall: food was below mediocre, set-up confusing and inefficient, staff unfriendly, and the experience just flat out frustrating. We will NEVER be back.

bread and company stores continue to pop up around the city en masse. the ones that are already open are crowded at lunch with people snatching up salads, soups and sandwiches. the store/restaurant designs are supercool (see the green hills entryway). note that sandwiches arent cheap (at $6 per) and it's hard to get outt for less than $10, but the food's fresh, innovative and a great alternative to subway or burger slop...

I was so pleased with the food quality at this hip urban cafe. The Cobb Salad was fresh and flavorful, and the staff was very helpful with suggestions. The bread was great; I am in love with this place. I think the prices are very fair considering the quality and freshness of the food. The wireless internet access makes this a really nice for a power lunch. This is a great place.

This place is a joke. I can't believe I actually got convinced to return to this place. The service is terrible. It's way too crowded, and there are about 15 employees standing behind the various counters, but won't help you. When you do finally get to order, and pay out the yang, you get to stand there and watch the short order cook go through the orders in a backwards fashion. I wont be back.

The absolute best cinnamon roll I have ever tasted. The best coffee available in Nashville. Other restaurants have better specialty coffee drinks, but I find myself returning to Bread & Company when I just want a cup of coffee. The atmosphere is great for just hanging out to read or chat. Somewhat expensive, but for me, the cinnamon roll is well worth it.
