The chefs cook your meal to your liking in front of you. Kabuto has not only beautiful food, but is also very entertaining. There are tables of 8 people, with the chef standing in the middle. They do plenty of tricks. It really is a good night out. It has become my family tradition to have birthday dinners here. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We ate at Kabuto for the second time in six months on March 28, 2010. The first visit was pretty good, but not great, so we decided to give them another chance. We realized that we had the same cook as the first time who was very noisy with lots of banging of the spatula, and loud talking, but not actually very skillful. He left the grill three different times to go check on the order and get more food. We remembered that he had left the grill to correct the orders the last time we ate there. The fried rice was very sub-par for Japanese fried rice. Even our teenage son said it wasn't good. The Mahi-Mahi was the smallest piece I've ever had anywhere, and the filet mignon had a really off taste to it, like liver or something. We did not eat it all, and worried about its possible later effects on our digestive systems. The bathroom was also not clean and had a bad odor to it. It was unquestionably the worst Japanese Hibachi Grill meal we've ever had, and we've had many.

My wife, children, and sister-in-law ate at the Kabuto Japanese Steak House on September 11th 2009 at approximately between 6:50pm-07:35pm. I am serving my third combat tour in Iraq and have not seen my wife in almost a year now. Today on September 11th, it is our third wedding anniversary. My wife paid for her sister and while ordering asked the waitress to find how much a piece of lobster would cost in small portion. The waitress could not find on the menu where lobster was priced and so it was ordered along with food for all seated. At the end of the meal my wife was informed that a small piece of lobster had a cost of 14 dollars and when she asked why she was paying full price for a portion of a full meal that she did not receive. This is when the manager stated that he would call the Police on my wife if she did not pay full price for this piece of lobster. My wife then pays 80 dollars for her, her sister, one five year old and two 2 year olds. So I want to thank you for your professionalism and compassion in making my wife who is alone and especially sad today feel little and made to cry on our wedding anniversary while I am thousands of miles away. I will never take my family to your restaurant again.

Cons: Your wife will be in tears across the ocean as I am in Iraq.

Ok. I dont see how anyone could NOT like Kabuto. the food is great. The chef's are hilarious. I would advise anyone who goes to ask for Frank to be your chef. I go to Kabuto at least 4 times week with my boyfriend and we LOVE Frank. His food is the best and he knows how to make you laugh. We are very picky about how our food is cooked and what we order. He knows how we like everything and the waiters have our drinks ready without even having to ask. The service is very nice. If you are looking for something fun to do and you have an appetite, I would suggest Kabuto! The chef's do alot of little tricks, from throwing shrimp in your mouth, to making your rice look like a heart and making it beat, to making a volcano out of onions and having it explode. Kids would LOVE Kabuto. The chefs always make them smile. Or at least ive never seen anyone complain when I go there!! The only problem I have had was a hostest. But other than that Kabutos is amazing for the price you pay to eat it and the show you get.

As a frequent patron, I was completely disappointed at our last visit. When we signed in we were told there would be a 1 hour wait. After 1 hour had passed, we asked who musch longer. they replied about 10 more minutes. after 15 minutes we inquire again and was told only one table in front of us. after another ten minutes we were told there's 4 tables ahead of you. Spoke to manager with no results. After 1hour 45 minutes wait we left. I emailed Kabuto 4 days ago and they do not show the coutersy to reply. will never visit again.

It is one of our favorites. We've moved 30 minutes away and still drive to eat there. ONE CAUTION- the last time we went there with friends, we were celebrating our sons birthday (born a day apart). The waitress asked us if we were celebrating something when she saw the gifts. We told her their bdays. She then proceeded to say "Great, Can I bring them a special dessert and sing?" Of course we let her! Then the bill arrived... and they added $5 or $10 dollars to the bill for the dessert, picture taken of them and a frame! We assumed it was free since she asked to bring it to us! BEWARE- don't fall into the same trap we did!

I really enjoyed my meal at Kabutos and found the chef's to be funny and knowledgeable of the menu! What I thought was funny was that they (the chef's) always say they have been there only a week however, I have been there many times and I can tell you the Chef's have been there longer then they say. It's all in getting the table to talk and have fun. I recommend everything ! They are great (the chef's) about cooking your steak the way you want it. Fantastic service, awesome show by the Chef's. I can tell you I have never ever been disappointed at anytime I have been there lunch or dinner. I do appreciate that the Chef's try to get you to have fun and the shrimp appetizer is GREAT if you can catch it. (ha ha)
Please have fun and enjoy your meal while at Kabutos. My friends and I LOVE it and will go there as much as we can!! O yeah and the servers are nice too. I have yet to fine one RUDE person. They are all very nice and I truly Recommend them to you... Thank's L. B. Stone

My husband and I met another couple at Kabuto on the sushi side a few nights ago. This was not my first visit so I was very shocked about how the night/food turned out. I have to explain that I am NOT a sushi or even fish eater but my husband is. I usually just order a house salad and a bowl of rice. This time the friends I was with suggested the chicken rice bowl. They said they had it before and it was really good. Considering one bowl of rice is $6 and the chicken rice bowl was $7.95 I thought I would give it a try. When the waiter put it down in front of me I thought I was going to be sick right then and there. I couldn't even tell what was placed on top of the heaping pile of steamed rice. It sure did NOT look ANYTHING like chicken. Seriously I am willing to bet it was NOT chicken. As I started to pluck the pieces of mystery meat off my dish they were all hung together by tendons. It truly looked like the pieces of meat you cut off before you cook the meal. It was absolutely the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in a restaurant. My friend ordered chicken terryaki and once again, there didn't appear to be any "chicken" on her plate. We were both so disgusted we vowed to NEVER return there again. Our big joke of the evening was the WATER was excellent.

Pros: The water is the only good thing I had.

Cons: Mystery meat - not enough fish in my husband's sushi rolls.

My family and I have been regular customers at the Kabuto in Goodlettsville for more than a few years now. We only go there as a 'treat', but spend no less than $125.00 per visit. In the past months we have observed a consistant slide in quality of service. DO NOT allow 'Rodney' the 'latino-japanese hibatchi chef" to prepare your food!!! Not only did he open by telling us it was his second day as a cook, (which I have come to expect because three of the past five chefs have made the same claim!!) but when I questioned the scattering of egg shell throughout the rice he then asked me to show him where! All the while stirring and stirring it in! I informed him that I was not getting paid to cook and that was his job! He was only disgusted by this and could not have been in a bigger hurry to be done with us! At that point, the show was over, no onion volcano for the kids!
Aside from this, he was completely unable to cook more than one thing at a time!?! this is hibatchi, right?
With only the four of us to serve, I don't think timing the dishes to be that unreasonable to expect. The entire meal was prepared hurridly, mis-seasoned, the vegetables were warmed not cooked, as well as shrimp, crab and two orders of lobster BARELY prepared! I am not one to just look for something to complain about, I do appreciate a fine well prepared meal. I won't think twice about paynig $35 for a twelve year olds plate, BUT it had better be a $35 plate of food!!! When I did seek the managers attention, his only consulation was that if I would call ahead, only then he could assure that I got what I paid for. If this is the case I think each chef's menu should be pro-rated so that their ability is reflected in the check. Otherwise I will trust that a teenager can prepare a pepperoni pizza properly for less than twenty bucks!
My best advice, if you plan to spend $30 a plate let them know AHEAD OF TIME that is what you expect!
I will not make that mistake twice!

Pay no attention to those bad reviews! This is by far the best food, most entertaining, and just great place we eat - averaging twice a month since the restaurant opened. If you are looking for romantic, quiet, or leisurely, this is not it. However, we always leave a geat, well-deserved tip and feeling full and satisfied - usually with a doggie bag. There is a wait on friday and saturday, but during the week it is quick and consistent.

My family and friends do not like the quality of Kabuto. The service is very poor and the people are not friendly. The meat seems to be poor quality because if you do not eat it as soon as it comes off the heat it is like rubber. The sushi is less than par by far. I suggest you save your money and go to Fuji on Rivergate Parkway.

I went there for my birthday. The service was horrible! They brought my sushi to me warm and when I told the waitress that I wouldn't eat warm raw fish(which is a serious health risk!) she gave me a nasty look and told me to "try." She talked down to me like I was a child and it took bringing the manager out to get me something that was edible. The prices are outrageous for the poor quality of food, service, and atmosphere. I could have had a better dinner at McDonald's! They ruined my birthday. I will never go there again and I recommend anyone looking for good steaks or good Asian food to go over to Sapporo's which is only about five minutes away.

If you have the time to wait and wait. The food quality is not very good, the service is only "ok". Very traditional hibachi style. The chefs are like the lottery some good some not so good. They seem to have a lot of turn over with the chefs but a few have been there a while. If you are fortunate to get a good chef you will may enjoy your experience but not likley. I would recommend this occasionally if you like slow service and low quality meat but I prefer Fuji Japanese Steakhouse on Rivergate Parkway for quality food and great service.

I went to kabutos in greensboro nc on saturday. Me and my guest sat for at least 20min before anybody notice us. When they did the waitress was very rude. First of all she didnt give us any water of offer us anything to drink. We end up going to the bar for mix drinks. when we ask her about it she replied im busy very rudely. She finally bought us some soup and salad which was horrible and know silverware. We finally ordered. after at least 45min when still had know food and when we asked about it she told us to chill out. my guest started to get angry she argue back with him repeatedly telling him to chill out. We ask for a manager and he act like he didn't care saying she is busy. We got up and left but still had to pay for our drinks which was $18.00. It was horrible I will never go back there again

Besides the fact that the service was horrible, some weird looking creature crawled out of the grill after the chef had finished cooking. The worst part is, the server walked away with a surprised look and didn't come back until everyone had finished eating and handed me the bill which only had a 10% on it. An apology might have been nice....

When my wife and I moved to Hendersonvile in Februrary I assured her that I was sure there had to be at least one good Sushi Restaurant in Downtown Nashville that we could visit once a month or whenever we would be going out on the town.

Well we found a great Sushi place in Goodlettsville. Much much closer than Downtown Nashville.

With the money I save on Gas, I can buy more Sushi!

Thanks Kabuto!

We took the kids to Kabuto's for a special outing and they absolutely loved it. The chef entertained them and they absolutely loved the food. All we heard for days after was how good it was and when were we going back. A great place for kids or for a romantic meal... I would highly recommend it.

Bad birthday experience. The soup is awful; a brown cube of beef broth with a lonely slice of mushroom. Filthy grill and table; it stunk inside. Service is awful with hateful help. Cook did his best with the sub-standard food he had to deal with. Chicken way overcooked and full of grissel. Filet could have been bought at Kroger and looked better. A disgusting experience and waste of money. Horrible soup; bad salad; bad entre and no desert. Go to Kobe's for a good Japanese meal.

Pros: I can't think of one.

Cons: The soup is awful; salad awful; sushi awful; service terrible.

The food at Kabutos is average, but the service is terrible. They were rude and very disorganized. I would rather drive a few more miles and/or spend a little more money for better service than go back to this place.

good location also

Pros: good sushi, good drinks

The downside is that Kabuto's 99 cent sushi is no longer. Tuna went from .99 to $1.85. The upside is that the service has greatly improved. For a non-downtown sushi joint - it's my top choice. Also, they are the only place in Middle Tennessee with Mochi ice cream balls. I go only for the sushi and am rarely disappointed with the quality.

Pros: good value, Green Tea Mochi, fast sushi

Cons: closes early, not the cheapest, sticky tables

My family and I have been to Kabuto twice since its opening 3 weeks ago. As long-time Kobe's Steakhouse and GoTen customers, we naturally had high standards for a Japanese steakhouse; Kabuto exceeded our expectations. Service is wonderful, and the chefs are delightfully entertaining. A top-quality drink list and separate sushi bar make eating at this restaurant an all-around treat. Another appeal here is the slightly more casual atmosphere than other steakhouses. Its location is also a plus. I highly recommend!!
