5 Stars: This is a must do for the Art Lover! (by Clay P.)

I can't say enough positive things about the museum. They have a truly diverse selection and it's a wonderful place to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon. I recommend the tour for your first visit, just to give you the background and information about the different collections. My favorite part is that they offer things for children from preschool and up. They offer art and craft classes on Tues. and Thurs. and the cost is nominal. What a great way to introduce Art to your family! My now 4 year old loves to visit the Museum!

5 Stars: Classy art exhibits (by Tonya B.)

I was required to visit the Hunter Museum while a student in Chattanooga. This was a very learning experience for me. It was my first visit to a Art museum and I really enjoyed it. There were several famous painting inside and a beautiful interior. However the sculptures in the outer gardens were my favorite. There were some really unique pieces. Not too pricy esp for local students.

4 Stars: Visit this museum (by jennifer c.)

What a great way to spend an afternoon. The docents have weekly training as well as a 6 week training course before conducting tours for groups. You will have someone knowledgeable about the arts, which is nice. The Hunter has also expanded and just completed the O'Keeffe exhibit. There is a bridge connecting the Hunter with the walking bridge and parking on high street. There is a great little cafe in there as well.

My friend volunteers as a docent and loves it there.

5 Stars: Find your passion for Art! (by Shannon W.)

When we planned our trip to this museum, I was expected a ho-hum trip and maybe to find it a 'little' enjoyable. Boy, was I wrong. I had no idea I had such a passion for art before visiting this place. There were so many varieties of mediums, watercolor painting, oil paintings, clay forms, carvings, recycling art, and many other unique art forms that I'd never seen before. Even the abstract art was very interesting to view & seeing one artist's style in contrast to another artist was very powerful.

Our trip definitely stirred an art interest in myself, my daughter & husband, which really surprised me. Since then I've had a renewed interest in pencil sketching, and painting, as has my daughter & husband.

We were also pleased to see a children's area in the museum where children have different manipulatives & lots of fun activities. My daughter didn't want to leave at this point of the trip especially.

Before we left, we found out that the museum has many day camps & summer camps for budding young artists who want to expand their horizons. THe museum also had a few cafeteria areas to eat in & their food was pretty good. I can definitely recommend this as a great family field trip!

Admission is reasonable:

Adults: $7.00

Children 3 - 12: $3.50

Under 3: free

Members: free

Their hours are:

Monday

10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday

10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday

Noon 5:00 p.m.

Thursday

10:00 a.m. 9:00 p.m.

Friday

10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

Saturday

10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

Sunday

Noon 5:00 p.m.

Closed Wednesdays Labor Day through Memorial Day

PROS: Fun educational experience for families, stimulates desire to create art
CONS: None.
