Ratings_icons Nashville Fertility Ctr is Professional and Excellent!

Heather H.

We spent about a total of two years with this staff and have nothing but positive experiences here. Dr. Hill is phenomenal, very caring and attentive. We now have a healthy 9-month old thanks to Nashville Fertility Center and our surrogate.

Ratings_icons So far so good...

K S.

We are in the process of having a tubal ligation reversal done. I have had three appointments with their office and one outpatient procedure with one of the doctors. Since I do not know yet if I will be able to conceive, I can only speak of the treatment I have received, but not the outcome. From the front desk to the nurses, and doctors, I have experienced professional courtesy and general kindness. The process is expensive, but voluntary. I expect them to do their best, and the rest is in God's hands. I am confident in their care so far, as well as their follow through with all of my questions and concerns, both on my visits and over the phone. So far, I would recommend them to my friends and family. The only way for them to get another star from me at this point would be to treat me like royalty, and that's just not going too happen! Blessings to everyone trying to conceive!

Ratings_icons NFC: jury still out

modern b.

After reading all the reviews it's interesting how either a person has a really bad experience or a perfect one. My opinion of the NFC is still out. So far, I have paid a lot of money out and still feel clueless. I'm sure they are really smart and know what they are doing, but the communication skills are definitely lacking. I have to pry the information out of them. I suggest making them sit with you one on one. They will not make the suggestion, but you should. Again, I'm sticking with it, I think they have the technical skills and just majorly lacking interpersonal skills. PS...One recommendation to NFC, don't call patients by their full name (first and last). It's already humiliating, you don't have to advertise.

Ratings_icons Nashville Fertility Ctr is god aweful!

Horrible place, doctors do not care, they messed up our fertility and had us doing injections for two weeks (and charged us) after using up specimans without our consent. Do not use this place. The positive reviews below were probably written by staff members.

Ratings_icons Thankful for NFC!

a j.

My doctor was very hands on and very specific to my case. She was amazing and understanding to the stressful and emotional situation. Dr. Whitworth is now helping me with trying for a second child. I thank God for her and the other doctors and nurses at this clinic. It is my understanding that the doctors and nurses meet weekly to discuss all the cases. I believe this is what made my treatment successful. This is a very time sensitive treatment and you may have to come in on a Saturday or holiday. You might have to see a different doctor-and I did. Every doctor knew where I was in the process and made every step as stress free as possible.

I did have issues with how I was treated by the financial person. Of all people, she shouldn't have been nasty with me-I paid up front in cash. I made her job easy. I accidentally wrote the check for the wrong amount. She was extremely rude and talked to me as if I was an idiot and the lowest species on the planet. I had to look past her flaws and concentrate on the wonderful care I received from the rest of the staff.

My nurse called me within 24 hours EVERY time I called and left a message, usually on the same day after her afternoon appointments. That is personal service!

I suggest that if you have an issue, you speak your doctor immediately. They truly want you to have a good experience and believe in their work.

Ratings_icons NFC: statistics over people!

Angela M.

This place only cares about their statistics. They left a friend of mine on fertility medicine for too long with severe side effects. Now they are beginning to do the same to me. The male doctors have a horrible bedside manner and rush you into things you are not sure about. The nurses are very nice but do not make up for the treatment from the docs and their ability to push you for more treatment. Their blatant disregard for the raw human emotions that this process emits is disgusting. If you do decide to go with this company ( which I do not advise) please listen to your body and heart to know when enough is enough.

Ratings_icons Nashville Fertility Center, not for me!

Kelly K.

Disappointing and stressful. Forget NFC! I have been calling and leaving messages for about 6 weeks now just to get their orientation packet. I call, they say their sending it, I call , they say they are sending it...Repeat repeat repeat! Finally, 4 days before my 1st appt they say it will be emailed to me. Guess what, 2 days before my trip to nashville and still they have not emailed or snail mailed the packet! I never did get an answer to a simple question about testing either. If they can't return phone calls or send a simple packet no way am I going to trust them with such an important matter. Today, I made 1 phone call to Atlanta's Repro Assoc. Not only did they set an appt for me next week ( on short notice) they are also super friendly and called me just to confirm they received my records! After stressing out and reading other complaints about impersonal staff at NFC, I think I did the right thing switching centers!

Ratings_icons We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE NFC

Billie C.

I am so shocked to see the negative reviews on this site for NFC. My husband and I have used them for three years and are completely satisfied. We have loved every doctor we've seen there as well as the nurses. One of the other reviewers mentioned that they were only seen by nurses and rarely by the doctor. I just want to point out that these aren't just regular RN's they are nurse practitioners who specialize in the field of infertility.

My husband and I first tried another clinic in Nashville and were not happy at all. We then tried NFC and were very pleased with their service. Just because they are busy, doesn't mean you are just a number. The staff there knows me by name and I feel very comfortable there.

We required IVF and got pregnant with twins on our first cycle. (FYI - I was just checking the statistics posted by SART and the CDC, the two national agencies who monitor and collect data from fertility centers - and NFC has some of the best success rates in the country.) We had our twin girls in November 2006 and are now trying IVF again.

If you are looking into fertility treatment for any reason, please take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. This is a first class treatment center with a wonderful staff. And for the record, they were actually cheaper than the other major clinic we met with in Nashville.

Ratings_icons Horrible - you are treated as a number...

anon y.

this place is a factory where you are truly a number and not a person. A nurse ends up making just about all of the decisions about your case and they follow their protocol without any thought to the individual case. Dr. Hill was very nice and pleasant - but it was quickly apparent that he was unfamiliar with our case in just about every interaction. He treated us in every interaction as if we were doing in-vitro (and we were not). When asked pointed questions about our case (after we re-explained the details), it was not unusual for him to give a different recommendation than what the nurse had charted. The sad thing is that we usually ended up being the ones who had to communicate this change to the nurse as they were often in the dark.

They did NOT take the time to explain what was going on and why they did what they did. We felt like cattle that was herded to the next test / blood draw, without any explanation. It was not unusual for my wife to be strapped in, naked, legs in the air - and dr. hill would walk in from a door that is outside of her vision and start working on her privates - without so much as a hello or warning.

The receptionist will tell you that they are an extremely high volume practice - and it shows.
We do NOT recommend them and will find a different practice.

Ratings_icons An honest review

Jenifer H.

My story is probably a bit different than most as I am not ready to start a family but had some serious medical issues including endometriosis, ovarian cysts and fibroids. My regular gynecologist is at Vanderbilt. He referred me to NFC. The goal was to preserve my fertility as much as possible. He truly believed that NFC was the best option for me. I had my first consultation within 2 weeks. I was assigned to Dr. Weitzman. I did have to wait for about 45 minutes past my appointment time the day of my consultation. During my 1st visit an ultrasound confirmed that surgery was a definite. The surgery would be difficult and would last 4-6 hours. Dr. Weitzman seemed very confident and his credentials are amazing. I felt very safe with him. When I was going to check out I suddenly began to crumble emotionally. Im still not sure what happened that day but my tears wouldnt stop. The receptionist came to me almost immediately and took me into a private room. She helped me calm down and offered to call someone for me. The way she took the time to help me meant so much. Melissa was the person I worked with on scheduling and instructions for surgery. She was very competent and although she was so busy she always called me back and answered my questions. You could really help them by leaving messages about what you need specifically rather than asking that someone call. Who should call? The nurse? The Dr.? The insurance people? Scheduling people? Payment people? WHAT DO YOU NEED! I was always told upfront what charges to expect and what wouldnt be covered. I also always asked. My surgery was at Centennial. The surgery staff and Dr. Weitzman did everything possible to make me comfortable. Dr. Weitzman talked with me before and my family said he was very open and honest. I had a major surgery and was lucky enough to have just 4 small incisions when I woke up rather than a big incision and months of recovery. I was back at work within 1 week. The care I received the entire time was above and beyond. They did anything and everything to make me comfortable. The only complaint is that a nurse mistakenly thought I was going home same day and removed my IV and catheter. This made it very difficult for me because I had to actually get up out of bed to urinate. That was bad but wasnt the fault of NFC. When the regular pain meds werent working they were ordered to redo an IV and give me morphine. The very minute I complained they were on the phone and within 5 minutes I was hooked up and within 10 minutes I was comfortable. You have to be your own advocate. Speak out about what you need, how you feel and what you want them to do. My husband is about to do his testing. They told me on the phone the cost of $100.00. I doubt it has anything to do with using a room. I was told upfront that insurance probably would not cover any of it. Im disappointed in the previous negative reviews. I dont think theyre fair. If you go into this not asking questions then you are at fault for not knowing the answers. It is not NFCs responsibility to explain every small detail to you. YOU HAVE TO ASK QUESTIONS! Ive never had anyone be less than polite to me. The review given on 2/11/08 is not very credible. The title was just want personal service. It sounds like you wanted everything for free. Do you think the best fertility center around is going to risk their business to scam an extra $100 from you. Thats just ridiculous. Paying $150.00 is just simple math. A $25.00 co-pay times 2 plus the $100.00 for semen analysis. No scam. Some people expect more than is possible.
My one and only complaint is about appointment times. For my surgery follow up I was in the waiting room for almost 1 hours. My husband finally asked them and they were very apologetic. They blamed it on Dr. Weitzman and told me that thats just what he does. I just try to think the lady before me may have been told today that she cant have children or the other young lady may be finding out her in-vitro didnt work for the 2nd time. I would like to think having a doctor that will take as much time as I need when its my turn is worth waiting for. I would completely recommend NFC. I will use them when the time comes for me to start trying to conceive. I will take a book though. :0)

Ratings_icons Personable Staff; In-Depth Pre-Treatment Testing; Compassionate Doctor

I was compelled to write this review after reading the negative comments about this center. I have not had one staff member treat me poorly in any way. They are up-front about treatment costs - all you have to do is ask! I waited two months for my first appointment (consultation) which is typical for a fertility center. I waited THREE months to see the RE at Vandy so NFC's 2-month wait didn't phase me one bit. I was able to make an appointment before filling out the online forms and I didn't find the forms intrusive at all.

My OB/GYN referred me to NFC to see Dr. Weitzman. Weitzman has been open and honest about my chances and has run exhaustive tests to get to understand the scope of my problem. He was very sensitive and compassionate as he informed me of the odds and recognized that although I am fairly young, I needed aggressive treatment quickly due to family history.

Yes, I did pay co-pays for both my husband and I for our initial consultation, but their website disclosed that fees may be required for BOTH husband and wife. Any time I have called the center, I have received a prompt call-back with a pleasant nurse or other staff member on the line. I have never been told that I would be charged for a phone consultation. Although I cannot speak for the success of my treatment, as I'm still in the planning stages for future cycles, but I will attest that the staff is friendly, the doctors are informed and compassionate, and the facility is warm and inviting. I have not felt pushed into anything, except a lot of genetic testing which I now understand was wise for me to have done. They take time to educate you (and even have a special room for it so you aren't learning stuff while you are on an exam table) and make sure you fully understand everything before moving to the next step.

I'm shocked at the negative reviews! It's been hard for me to understand why fertility coverage isn't mandatory in Tennessee, but that isn't NFC's fault! We have to understand that fertility treatments are expensive and expect to pay a lot of $$ for all aspects of treatments since most insurance carriers see all of this as elective and not a medical necessity. If you are angry about the costs, then contact your state representative and lobby for mandatory fertility insurance coverage like 14 other states have.

Regarding the charge of $100 for use of a room for the semen sample - that is totally incorrect. The charge is $100 for the semen analysis, not the use of a room. They make it pretty clear that insurance does not usually cover the analysis and that the charge would be due at the time of sample collection. If your insurance ends up paying for it (highly unlikely -- and if so, what insurance do you carry? I want it!), then they will reimburse you. My husband used their facility for sample collection and paid $100. If you had a consultation on the same day, then you will pay your co-pay AND the charge for the analysis. The co-pay is NOT for semen analysis! Their costs are on target with other fertility centers in the country -- Vandy charges $90 for a semen analysis when insurance will not pay, so NFCs $100 is too similar to be an issue.

I'm satisfied with my treatment so far at NFC. I hope that I don't have to go back (aka, I'll get pregnant this cycle), but if I do, I know that I'm in good hands and that they will do what's best for me.

Ratings_icons We received personal service!

We were very pleased with our experience at Nashville Fertility Center. They called to schedule our appointment. I had not completed any forms online when they made our appointment. I don't think the angry woman in the last review had her information correct. Anyone from the office that has called me has been extremely helpful and professional. I've never experience a rude person - on the phone or in person. The Dr was very thorough and provided us with a wealth of information and options. We would highly recommend this facility to anyone that is trying to conceive. I also know of 5 other couples that have been to Nashville Fertility with rave reviews. In response to Anonymous 2/11/08 - 1. Most physicians are out of the office at the holidays - can't really fault them for that...2. I suggest you get your husband (the teacher) to help you brush up on your spelling skills. Or at least hit the "check spelling' button before you submit a review. It might make your review look a little more credible.3. I don't know of any physician's office that tells you how much your charges are before you check out... that just doesn't happen. However, if you are concerned about the charges - you are certainly able to inquire yourself.

To go to a fertility clinic first off is difficult, but to have such terrible impersonal service is horrible. I contacted this office the 1st of Nov through email. Got a really good response in a timely manner. Concluding this clinc would be the best to work with my PCOS, the nurse corresponding with me said I needed to call the front desk for appointment. I did and I was sent back to the internet to fill out forms, without the online forms submittance they CANNOT scheldue an appointment. Ok 1st, the nurse never told me of this procedure, 2nd the lady at the front desk would not even talk to me till I have sumitted the forms. So, after filling out the forms for me and my husband (even though he is not needing services because we are only going to treat my PCOS) I call to scheldue an appointment; their reply "I am sorry mam but we will process the paperwork in a couple of days and call you to scheldue the appointment. goodbye." At this point I should have realized the impersonal service but I obeyed and waited for them to call me. A week later, I get a call and they can not scheldue me untill mid January because the doctor is taking a vacation. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have been trying to get all your logisitics ironed out for almost 2 months and she cant see me till the next year!!! Fine, schledue me. We were told that we needed an appointment for me and my husband because they like to see us and treat us together...fine, My husband scheldues a substitue teacher and we prepare to go. Confirm wednesday for our friday appt and thursday they call to resch. because "the dr has a class she needs to attend." CLASSES DO NOT FORM IN LESS THAN 24HOURS, WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE HAS A CLASS? So we resch., which is not easy for a teacher but we get there.
Very structured and rigided not friendly at all. They do nothing for my husband, he just listens as the dr talks to me about my options. So we had to suggest going ahead and doing the semen testing--because after all this trouble they wanted him to scheldue another time to do this--WHY NOT NOW? Go to check out expecting to pay one copayment (maybe two) we get stuck with not $25 but instead $150 payment on the spot. THEY NEVER ONCE SAID that to use their room to collect the semen was going to cost $100 and was not covered in our appt that we were already paying a $25 copayment. Why if we are billed directly by the labs for the semen specimen, and it can't go through the insurance, would you not tell your patient this up front??? And if they did nothing for him, why did we get billed for two copayments, when I was the only one they addressed?
I was sent away with having to do blood work, which they could have done that day except the dr did not tell me to fast before coming. (This is a pure example of their lack of ability to communicate with all the departments in their office and thus being insufficent communicators to their patients.) Got the blood work, payed a different dr a copayment to draw the blood the NFC could have done. My dr where I got the blood work done called personally and said that the results are in to call NFC and get the results....once again I would be called by a nurse, who will scheldue a phone consult. Schelduling the appoint I was told I would be charged $25-$100 for this service and it could not be billed to insurance. Ok this might be exceptable if I pay $25 for a phone call but I am not paying $100; so I asked how long can I talk to the dr for $25, "I dont know that is up to the dr." !!!!
After this point, I am fed up. I pay $500 a month for insurance and they keep trying to milk more and more money for bogus charges, and copayments for impersonal service. I can't get anyone to call me back in a timely manner, one dept constantly has to transfer because they can't help you & on & on! Lastly, the dr apologized for canceling my 1st apt, she explained they had to collect eggs not attend a class--why did the 1st lady lie?

Ratings_icons Quite Happy with Our Results!

Michelle R.

I am so sad to read such negative reviews about NFC. Under Dr. Eblen's care and with minimal cost, we were able to have a beautiful daughter and have just found out we are pregnant with our second child. Dr. Eblen really listened to our monetary concerns and worked around that. We started at the "other" facility everyone else seems to reference in their reviews and felt like it was a racket that told everyone they needed IVF, regardless of if it were true. In fact, that "other" facility told us IVF was our only hope, and all we needed was some pills and timed intercourse.

If you want to be under a physician's care for your fertility issues then you need to go to a different clinic. Through numerous procedures and after being a patient at this clinic for about 6 months we saw/spoke to the doctor twice for a total of about 10 minutes. Communication with the clinic is poor. The expense is very high. The protocol and procedures do not seem to be tailored to the individual. We have now switched clinics and cannot believe the difference. Now that we have something to compare NFC to we realize just how terrible they really are. Chances of success with NFC seemed to be highly unlikely.

Treating such sensitive issues as they do, you would think that they would be more personable than the visits we observed. Perhaps if they were half as patient-conscious as they are money-conscious our experience would have been different. After seeing a doctor who had the bedside manner of a chainsaw and being double charged (both for my wife and I) for a single consultation, we chose the other area fertility specialist and are very glad we did!

PROS: Multiple doctors, big facility
CONS: Fertility racket

Nashville Fertility Center is one of the few Reproductive Endocrinologists office in the greater Nashville Area. I only went there because I didn't have much of a choice and it seems they know that about their patients. They aren't too friendly and will not call back in a timely manner.
