Wow! This place is pretty freaking awesome. I went here for a friend's birthday dinner and it was mind blowingly good. We all sat at the bar and ordered Sake. A server will come by and ask for your drink order as well as what foods

Me and my family went there to eat last night (April 14th). There was no wait which was good. I wanted to use my sharing spree for the hibachi grill since my husband or stepson doesn't like sushi so I asked the host if we could, she said yes and walked us to our table. The food was ok, a little salty and the chef didn't seem thrilled to be there. He did like 2 tricks, I've experienced better. When the bill came I gave our waitress my sharing spree (coupon) and she told me we couldn't use it on hibachi. I explained to her that I asked the hostess about that and she told me it was ok. Our waitress went and got a manager (I'm assuming thats who she was) The manager proceeded to tell us that she apologizes for the hostess mis-informing us but she could not honor the coupon. I explained to her that the reason we chose to sit in the hibachi section was because we were granted permission to use our sharing spree there. The manager rudely said, "if you woulda read the sharing spree, it says it's for sushi and drinks only" Well DUH!!! That's why I asked if theyd honor the dang coupon for hibachi!! Needless to say, she never honored the sharing spree, refused to fix what was promised to us, rudely walked away and THEY were the ones at fault. Horrible customer service, food wasn't that great, and our chef was not impressive AT ALL!!

When the hubby and I wanted to take a break from cooking, we did not hesitate to check out this place. I love the ambiance, the sushi was fresh and the steaks were awesome. I know it is difficult to find great sushi here in Tennessee, but the staff really knows how to do it right! mmm!

Best sushi I've ever had. Been to a bunch of places in Nashville for sushi and this one will always stand out in every category. Ambiance, flavor, everything. This is a place that I take the ladies to, in hopes of wooing them over with my Asian palette and my far eastern ways.

My husband and I have eaten at many hibachi restaurants around the world, and nothing compares to Shogun in Brentwood. Everything from the salad dressing (never tasted anything like it) to the tender filet was up to par. The staff was very friendly, the service was fast, the cook was very entertaining, but really the food is what I am running back for!! Next time I will have to try the sushi menu, because the couple next to us was raving about it, but we were full half-way though the meal! I will highly recommend to all of my friends. My only complaint is that I didn't know about this little hidden treasure before.

There is something to be said about a Hibachi Chef who loves his job.Ours did...Aside from the spectacular performance (cracking a tossed egg in mid-air with his spatula!), the food is awesome. We split a steak, chicken and shrimp combo meal with salad and fried rice on the side. The dressing on the salad was top notch! The meat was tender and the dipping sauces delicious.

Last couple times i have been there in the last 1-2 years it has gotten progressivly worse.. Even though the place is not crowded the wait is too long. Waiting in the bar the guy who was the bartender was just rude and would rather watch what is on the tv than wait on people and when he does he does not even say can i help you or thank you. He probably wonders why his tips are lousy. the floors in the restaurant are very dirty and run down, the chairs are old and wobbly, i could easily see them breaking on someone. the soy sauce bottle are greasy, they might want to try to wipe them down once a year or something. the fried rice was not good, they threw in a bag of frozen corn, peas and carrots to make it, overall not very good and the chicken was VERY poor quality. Health dept. needs to get in there and do some poking around that is for sure. I would recommend not going there. bathrooms are also dirty and the night we went did not have any heat in them which is strange. If you want this type of meal unfortunately you will have to travel all the way to Nashville or risk getting sick.

The place is huge so you can have quite a crowd to deal with or a wait when it is busy. Due to the amount of people that goes through the place it is starting to look runned down and worn.
The sushi is OK and no complaints. Hibachi food is good and are large portions.
The price was more than I felt it was worth having been to other similar places in other cities.
Overall, the food was good but the cost and the crowds will keep me from returning anytime soon. There are plenty of other hibachi places arond town that are cheaper and have less crowds.

I'm a sushi and hibachi grill fanatic. I've visited every restaurant in the local area searching for one that can meet my high expectations only left with disappointment until......I found Shoguns in Cool Springs! Absolutely the best in the Nashville area and possibly the country! I travel around with the line of business I'm in and can seriously vouch that they have one of the best hibachi grills and sushi selections I've ever seen. If your looking not only for a fun atmosphere but the best sushi and hibachi you've ever tasted, visit Shoguns at Cool Springs.

Pros: Absolutely the best service, sushi, hibachi and show EVER!

Cons: There aren't more locations locally! : )

.

Everything about Shoguns is top-notch: service, quality/cost of the meal, ample seating, skilled staff, etc.

I like the fact that you can sit in the sushi bar, the regular bar, or at the grills to create a different atmosphere each time. I try to eat there once a week!

Although there might be a lot of places to eat around Brentwood, you are cheating yourself if you don't try Shogun.

Everything was great the server was just the sweetest little thing and the cook was VERY exciting, he put on a great show for me and my friends. Also the fried rice was really good. The food was amazing, dont change a thing.

We love Shogun..it's our family's resturant of choice. We have never had a bad experience. The staff always does a great job. We also enjoy chatting up the bartender...(she makes the best Cosmo by far...witch is my favorite drink of choice). The chefs are always entertaining, and I'm not sure what these guys do to make the fried rice so good...but I once tryed duplicating the fried rice at home and it didn't even come close. Another favorite of ours is the salad dressing. We can never leave without buying a cup full to take home with us!!!

We get there for my wife's birthday and there's a 35min wait. Well it was much longer than that because the little oompa loompa girl kept taking tips and letting people without reservations infront of all the other people who had waited patiently. This one lady was acting like she was overwhelmed and like nothing was going right. She was a nervous wreck. She said she was a manager, very hesitantly. I don't think she was a manager. We finally got sat. My chair was ragedy as hell. Every screw was loose and I thought it would break on me. Everybody elses chair was ragedy at my table as well. It took about 20min for us to get a server just to get our drinks and 30-40min more just for us to get a cook at our table. The ladies room was falling apart. Our grill was dirty before our food was cooked on it. This was very unlike our first shogun experience which was AWESOME in chattanooga tn on gunbarrell. I won't be going back to the one in brentwood.

I am from California where sushi is extremely popular, i have eaten at some of the top sushi places in Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, etc and I must say Shogun beats them all! I can guarantee that anyone who steps foot in Shogun will not be disappointed! The Shogun staff are very friendly and strive to make your experience one to be remembered! The sushi options are endless, i personally recommend the Dino Roll. The steak grilled on the Hibachi is to die for! I have never tasted meat that melts in your mouth like this. I have always been impressed with the quick service and never feel i have wasted a dime there! Thanks SHOGUN!

I just wanted to let habachi lovers out there that shogun's lunch price is awesome...for 6.95 you can get soup, salad, fried rice and chicken teriyaki served with great entertainment...in this bad economy ..I recommended skip this fast food joints where your regular combos run over seven or eight dollars and enjoy shogun' lunch special ...but try to get their as soon as they open ...they do get busy and you might have ten to fifteen min wait..

I have just moved from Dallas this spring and tried local Japanaese steak house in Franklin and Brentwood area and Shogun is gonna be my favorite habachi place for now ...their Quality of food is the best around here and their Bartender makes killer drinks.my boys favorite chef is Rigo and he is really good with kids...I highly recommend this restaurant!!!GO COWBOYS!!!!!

Pros: best quality and show in town

Cons: too much food

.

Shogun is my FAVORITE place for sushi and/or fried and grilled Japanese food. The sushi chiefs have the creativity of incorperating classic Japanese recipes with new exciting ingredients and preparation. I have also come to Shogun's just to enjoy their nice bar that they have as well. You Can't experience Nashville without stopping in to this restaurant! If you enjoy Japanese food or a great time with friends and family, I highly recommend making Shoguns apart of your dinning experience.

Pros: fried rice,ginger sauce

Cons: long wait on weekend

.

I have been to Shogun about 15 times and it has never disappointed me. The negative reviews seem to focus on poor management, which very well may be true if you are demanding precise seating on a weekend evening, but the food is to die for. For people who like a mouth full of flavor and zest, it's hard to find any other restaurant that would have more flavor. I can't believe some reviews said their food was cold....it's straight off the grill!!! How could it be served cold?!!? The fried rice alone could be a meal, it's comparable to PF Chang's except with more of a teriaki flavor. I wish I could take the sauces home somehow.... especially the hot sauce (by request). It has the most unique form of heat but doesn't burn or scorch your mouth like a jalepeno. For people that complain the the chef "seems out of it," it's because they will do as little or as much entertaining as you want them to. Sometimes regulars like myself have seen the show tons of times and you'd rather just talk with your company. The chef will pick up on that and just make the food for you. But if you cheer them on and show interest in their show, then they'll do more. I think that's very professional of them to perceive what the customers want during the meal, apparently misinterpreted as being boring or indifferent by some.

For $17 or so you can get a salad (with amazing ginger dressing!), soup, shrimp appetizer, half a plate of fried rice, vegetables, steak/chicken, side sauces, and spumoni ice cream! Plus alot of entertainment, food tricks, and fire flareups, it's almost like a mini Vegas dinner show. The chefs I've had always have a clever sense of humor if you engage them. They'll even try to flip you a piece of food and let you catch it in your mouth (followed by jokingly flipping a huge chunk of butter for you to catch in your mouth!).

Shogun will easily become a family favorite that you will crave fortnightly!

Pros: Hot food, fun entertaining chefs, very bold and zesty tastes, tons of food for $17

Cons: very busy on weekends, as they have to wait to seat 10 at a time per chef. Best on weekdays.

This was my first experience at a Japanese hibachi restaurant in Nashville. In Knoxville, I was apparantly spoiled by Miyabi's and Kanpai of Tokyo, as Shogun's wasn't even in their league. We were told there would only be a 15 min wait so to pass the time we went to the bar to have a drink. The bar area was in general not clean and seemed very unkept and the bartender seemed irritated that we wanted a drink. While I was trying to decide what to order, I noticed her sneaking a smoke from a cigarette she had hidden in a customer's ash tray. Now, its bad enough to deal with the general public smoking but to have to deal with my bartender taking a puff like a school girl in the bathroom was just trashy. I skipped my drink and my date had sake, hard to mess that up. We were set in a nice timely manner as promised and most things were good after that. At the table we sat with 8 other people we didn't know at first but proceeded to talk with everyone. I ordered a extra extra dirty vodka martini on the rocks and my date ordered a cosmo, both off the drink menu (I did ask for an additional extra dirty). When we got the drinks they were terrible. My martini had zero olive juice and it even says dirty in the menu description and the only thing about my date's drink that resembled a cosmo was the color. I asked for some olive jucie and doctored mine while my date just suffered thru it. After that the food was good, not great, and the cook (or is it chef?) was pleasant and entertaining. He was very skilled at his job and his server assistant was on top of her game as well. The sauces they give for the food were not very tasty so we pushed ours aside. The food was prepared properly and the meat was good but the rice was dry and the vegetables in the rice seemed like they were out of a can. Now to the bill. As I reviewed our bill I realized we were not charged for our bar drinks and the party beside us was charged for 2 meals instead of 4, so I guess we got redeemed ;-)

Pros: Chef performance, table conversation

Cons: bar area, bartender, lack of ambience

.

We ate at Shogun in Cool Spring last night and chose the restaurant due to the location. We also were looking for a fun, boisterous place to gather and eat. It was boisterous and there was a large crowd waiting to be seated -- so we thought we had made the right decision. We were told that the wait for a table was only about 30 minutes -- with such a large crowd waiting in the foyer, we were pleasantly surprised. We quickly figured out why. We sat in the bar, away from the crowded foyer and ordered drinks. The bartender was nice but very, very slow with our first round of drinks and he only had about six customers in the bar. We were seated in the time we were told and proceeded to order. Our chef showed up and while he did do the prerequisite "hibachi" style moves -- he just didn't seem too excited to be there. He also rushed through the entire cooking "process" -- undercooking the shrimp, rushing just about everything. The rice was good but dry and our filet was tender. The sauces provided just seemed bland and they actually tasted the same -- one was just darker than the other. We also ordered a round of drinks at our table and had to remind the server helping out that we had not received them. Now, I consider myself an EXPERT on Japanese food. We have eaten at the Mikado off of Harding/I-24 for over 10 years and are considered regulars there. We would have chosen Mikado but our party wanted something close to the Cool Springs area. We have tried Omigashi, now Shogun and Miyaki in Nippers Corner and I can say that we will never stray away from the Mikado again. If Cool Springs is the location for our next gathering, we will pick another place besides Shogun. Service mediocre, food undercooked or dry (steak was good though), sauces and salad dressing are the same, bland concoction and bartender slow. While it wasn't a terrible experience, the food and service were just okay. I just wouldn't recommend it to those who love Japanese food.
