Guthrie-Love Insurance

Karen wrote us a $1 million dollar umbrella policy through USLI for $400.78 on Feb. 3, 2009. In July when my auto and home policy with progressive came up for renewal I started checking around for a lower rate on a package deal with all three. Karen said she could insure us for all three with the umbrella costing about a third of what we were currently paying. She jumped the gun however and told us we were approved before the Hartford accepted us. She neglected to check out our eligibility with them first before taking our money. The Hartford rejected us based on risk and not recognizing domestic partnerships in the state of Tennessee. So we were never even accepted from the beginning which I didn't find out until I called the company myself. This was the second incidence of her slopiness or lack of thoroughness as an agent. I found out myself that our auto limits were not up to what the umbrella policy she sold us required and had to change them later. Let me repeat, I was the one who found this error, we were not told by Guthrie-Love.
Needles to say when I told Karen Love that we were going with another insurance company and I wanted our umbrella policy cancelled, she gave me a lot of excuses as to why USLI would not refund us our money from the date I requested it be cancelled. I requested cancellation on August 3, 2009 and that was exactly six months after the policy began. So we were owed a refund of $200.39. After many phone calls to Guthrie-Love, they finally sent us a check for $136.00. I contacted USLI and they told me that Guthrie-Love had not cancelled our policy until October 14, 2009! Karen also told me that we were charged an early cancellation fee, something we were never advised of previously, nor was it written in our contract. I informed Karen that we are still owed additional funds and she has not sent us the remainder of our refund.

Agents are very nice and helpful in finding a good rate for my auto insurance. They decreased my premium from $1473 to $505, and with the same coverage limits. I also saved on my homeowners insurance as well.
